Crime / This Thread About A Man Harassing A Girl In A Cab Shows We Still Have A Long Way by officialunique: 9:17pm On Jun 02, 2020 |
So much of it is heartbreaking: that the man had the temerity to do this in public; that his temerity was justified after the girl’s complaints were ignored by other passengers; the neglect of our security agencies. All of it, heartbreaking. Here’s the full story: two videos were shared in a Twitter thread by @DanielFaithArts showing a sister of his get harassed in broad daylight by a man. She reported to the people she was in the cab with, but they ignored, told her she was overreacting. After that she made a video and reported to soldiers at a checkpoint on the road. And what happened? The molester spoke Hausa to the soldiers, then told the girl to remain quiet or he’d have her detained. How can you continually harass a girl and ask her to remain quiet or you’ll have her detained? See the videos and read the story for yourself: https://officialuniqueblog.com.ng/2020/06/02/thread-man-harassing-girl-cab-shows-still-long-way-go/

Music/Radio / Majek Fashek Dies At 71 by officialunique: 8:55am On Jun 02, 2020 |
Majek Fashek, a Nigerian reggae musician, has died, his manager said on Tuesday. Majek, who toured the world with the sound of African reggae with hits such as the ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ and ‘Send Down the Rain’, died in New York, Omenka Uzoma, who has served as his manager and publicist for about seven years, said Tuesday morning. His age was not immediately clear. “The legend has gone to meet with the Lord,” Mr Uzoma said in a video uploaded by HipTV. “We should all celebrate him — his achievement.” Mr Uzoma did not immediately disclose the cause of death, which could be deliberate considering his past refusal to disclose the nature of the artist’s illness. Majek’s 1988 album ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ and the single ‘Send Down the Rain’ became a major hit worldwide and garnered multiple awards, including Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria’s album of the year in 1989. It was followed by ‘So Long for Too Long’ in 1991, which incorporated haunting vocals with the artist’s captivating rhythm. In the early 2000s, Majek, whose stage name was a condensed form of his full name Majekodunmi Fasheke, featured in some local film productions in Nigeria, including ‘Mark of the Beast’. The last few years of his life were replete with multiple allegations of excessive drug use and illness, most of which the artist declined to publicly confirm. In 2019, there were rumours of his death, but he debunked them by confirming that he was receiving treatment at a rehabilitation centre on the outskirts of the Nigerian capital, Abuja. In September, his publicist sought financial help from the public to help care for the Nigerian legend, a call that was heeded by many, including businessman Femi Otedola. He was treated at a hospital in London for several months before he moved to the United States in January 2020 to be with his family. He was survived by four children and his ex-wife, Rita. Music/Radio / Why Artiste And Producers Should Bond Before Doing A Song.... by officialunique: 2:39am On May 30, 2020 |
Every now and then, artiste sends me their song to review for them. And among the common things have noticed, the most common of them all is LACK OF BOND between the Producer & the Artiste... Now an Artiste writes a song and decided to hit the studio to record...he gets there & meet this producer who is also good in what he does... what should be the first thing to do? BONDING. Without the artiste & the producer bonding first, the song will not attain maximum QUALITY no matter how good the artiste or the producer is. Trust me guys, I have heard songs where I could tell confidently that the Artiste & producer don't like themselves.. Like for real. If you're not feeling the producer, if his jam/instrumental is not connecting to your soul....If you're just TRYING to go with the flow but deep down it's not connecting... Do not WORK with that producer. Why? Because it will tell in the song..badly. Same goes for the Producer. Often times, some producers who might not be feeling you will just say to themselves "See make I just do this job collect my money, I no say na wack him dey do''...But it's WRONG. Although no be their fault sometimes, e fit be the only job dem don see since Monday be that..... Sigh So what am I saying? You as an artiste should know that finding a producer that understands your strength & weakness is very important. Apart from Wizkid (who is an Ashewo of beats), Most of your favorite A list Artistes have stable in house producers that VIBE with them. Davido with speroach, Olamide with Pheelz, Burna boy with Kel p vibes....the list goes on... So my frend, on this journey to Music stardom, there are several steps to it. Finding producer(s) you CONNECT to is one of them, & please be open minded.. Don't because of this write up now be concluding that "dis one no connect, dat one no connect".... You get!? Thank you. Literature / [story] The Abomination – Episode 3 by officialunique: 11:34am On May 29, 2020 |
Days became weeks and weeks became months, no one talked about what baba told us. We resumed our normal life until Ope came visiting. Ope is the younger sister of Kassim who came to seek for admission into Kogi State University, Ayangba. Ope had made several attempts to secure admission into University of Ilorin but was unsuccessful. Toyin’s father was a senior lecturer in KSU and he had helped many of our friends relations to get admission. Kassim advised Ope to come down to Lokoja so we can help her speak to Toyin to speak to her father. Ope’s visit was the beginning of revelations to the abomination that caged my marriage for over ten years. Ope’s parent must have released her to us with the mindset that Kassim is now born again and may have overcome his unspeakable weakness. The first two weeks of Ope’s stay was blissful. At least I got someone we could gist together and play games together. Ope was lovely and friendly but very hostile to her brother. Her hostility toward Kassim was my first worry but I couldn’t approach any of them to explain the reason behind the hostility. I was coming back from work one day and I overheard Ope shouting, “Brother, so you have not stopped this evil”?. I should have stayed back a bit to hear which evil Ope was referring to but they both pretended and composed themselves when I barged in on them. I managed to ask ” what’s going on here?” But non of them responded, so I decided to let it go, after all they are brother and sister and they can sort themselves out. I left them in the sitting room and headed to the bedroom. In the night, I tried asking Kassim what they were talking about that warranted that statement I heard from Ope but he waved it off with a romantic kiss that made me forget to ask further Ope’s admission didn’t click on time and I thought that must be the reason for her recent emotional changes. She became so moody and isolated this time unlike when she came newly. I really understood because I have been there before and I knew how it felt. I left her alone after much attempt to make her cheer up. Ope began to lock herself up even when we were around. She will hardly come out for dinner or do her regular chores. I told Kassim to let us buy Kogi State Polytechnic form for Ope instead of her missing this year again but he refused. But can’t you see she’s losing her mind over this admission stuff? I argued. There is still one admission list that will be coming out next week, I believe her name will be there, Kassim was optimistic. The life brought into my home by Ope became a shadow suddenly. I returned to my loneliness as usual because my husband is not the talking type. We can be together in the house for several hours and he won’t say anything. Most times, he only talks when I initiate it. His answers to my questions are always in words and phrase, “yes”, “no”, “okay”, “alright”, “I will”, “Go ahead” etc. I can be so irritated sometimes hence I spent more time with Toyin. Why did Ope suddenly become moody? Was it just because she couldn’t get admission or there is more to it? The event that broke the Carmel’s back is in episode four….. Please Read Previous Episode Below https://officialuniqueblog.com.ng/2020/05/24/story-abomination-episode-2/ Please come back for Episode 4

Music/Radio / Before Promotion, Get Miscellaneous Money... by officialunique: 4:03pm On May 25, 2020 |
If you don't have MONEY for MISCELLANEOUS as an upcoming artiste/entertainer, drop everything you're doing and go and sort that out FIRST. Some few days ago, someone in this group was asking 'how to promote an artiste?....He wanted to know about how PROMOTION is been done so result can be achieved.... But before we go into that, there's something called MISCELLANEOUS & if you as an Upcoming artiste can't do that first...then there's serious PROBLEM. MISCELLANEOUS is that kinda money you spend here and there in making sure your song/activities is moving one step at a time. Miscellaneous is that money you spend on Tfare from your house to the show...then back to the studio....from there you move straight to see one of the big DJ's you want to give your CD to play for you... Miscellaneous is that 3,000 naira or so you use for subscription so that you can upload your links on all your social media & find opportunities through your phone .... That money you gave to that upcoming blogger to upload your song?.. That one too na MISCELLANEOUS. It's Important to know that all this are not PROMOTION yet. All this moves you're making as an upcoming here and there are what I call MISCELLANEOUS spending.. That time wey you go club, you hail the DJ and MC Eh!!!!!! Baba whatsup now? Jam my song now ....the DJ play your song & the MC hype you ....After all is said and done, as you dey go you gave them 1,000 naira each....This too na MISCELLANEOUS spending. I'm sure you get my point now right? Before you talk about PROMOTION make sure you can handle all this petty spendings first ...or else you're kidding yourself. Someone might be thinking, ah ah I know all this now...But you will surprised if I tell you that have seen artiste who can't even tfare themselves to where their BREAKTHROUGH is waiting for them. To cap it all up, if you're not doing anything yet that's bringing money & you don't have any external source of income to handle the MISCELLANEOUS spending your music career demands.....you need to drop everything right now & sort that out FIRST. Literature / Life In Makoko – Lagos Floating Slum by officialunique: 1:59pm On May 24, 2020 |
Makoko is a settlement of about 85,000 settlers located at the Ebute Metta diversion, just below the third mainland bridge. This article tells the tough conditions residents in Makoko, a slum neighborhood located in Lagos, western Nigeria, go through to survive daily life. Makoko is a town surrounded by water, illegally occupied according to the government but people are staying on. It’s a town with diverse cultures and traditions. Majority of the occupants are Egun, quite a large number of Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa also reside there. The area has a traditional leader called the Baale. Anyone can already guess the nature of job in Makoko Community without being told. For the residents of Makoko, “life is good, as long as we catch lots of fishes to sell, either fresh or smoked” says Baba Ibeji, an housing agent. Majority rely on produce from the sea for livelihood, either by being fishermen – mostly men, selling fresh or smoked fish- mostly women, dredging for construction sands. They make their own fishing nets and canoe to move around on the water, each household has at least two canoes, one for the parents and the other for the children to go to and from school “the paddle is our key, just like car keys so we keep it safe” says one of the children. Everyday is the same in Makoko, they go about their lives normally. The community is full of creativity, creativity forced to spring out from their reality of life on water. Schools, religious houses and hospitals are all built on water. There’s a popular hospital where patients are attended to by white men, its called The Floating hospital; it’s like a hospital on patrol, it moves from one place to the other; but always on the water. Although they are surrounded by water, the water is unhygienic for drinking. A few people in this community buy water from the Lagos State Water Cooperation and they resell at a fee, they hawk the water in big yellow kegs or small drums in their canoe and paddle from house to house every morning, and sometimes in the evening too. Trading of anything and everything goes on, on water. Women and children selling cooked food, provisions, cooking ingredients like tomatoes, vegetables and pepper, clothes, soft drinks and even drugs on the water: it’s called “the moving market” says Micheal. Most of the floating houses have stores where they buy and sell household items and provisions in front. They have accepted this life on water, and adjusted to it over time. “The people of Makoko live a very simple life, everyone does one thing or the other to survive, we don’t look down on one another or judge anyone. “Survival” is our theme here” says Micheal, a student of Adeyemi college of Education Ondo State. Buyers who live outside the community flood the Asejere fish smoking market, popularly called Better Life market; everyday. Most of the buyers are interested in the seafood: fish, shrimps, lobsters, crabs, snails and also fresh vegetables, fruits and other items. “We get buyers from far and wide everyday, because everything here is cheap and affordable” says one of the market women. Floating houses built with plank goes for three thousand Naira, while those built with aluminum and PVC goes for three thousand five hundred Naira. Both type of houses still have one thing in common : toilet and bathroom hangs by the side of the house: residents have to bath, urinate and defecate in the water, they also do their laundry with these water except for a few that can buy water for this purpose. As the reporter journeyed along, she came across a banner advertising a brothel: Olobiyi Hotel. There are a few other brothels where girls live for short term to get their business up and running, “Most of the runs girls you see at night live and work from here, some of these girls go to yaba, Allen and Ikeja at night; some of them are students of various university and polytechnics” Says Micheal “To live here in Makoko you have to be smart” says a bike rider Although Makoko is highly polluted and inhabitable, the people are very enterprising. The huge market for seafood, creativity and tourism will always attract people to this floating community. Read More On officialuniqueblog.com.ng 1 Like |
Literature / [story] The Abomination – Episode 2 by officialunique: 1:36pm On May 24, 2020 |
Toyin took us to her Pastor at Felele, an outskirt of the town. Good morning sir, this is Nneka and her husband, the one I spoke to you about. We greeted the pastor at the same time. He was an elderly man in his 60s but he was still full of life. He greeted us and asked us to narrate our challenges. I took the stage because my husband is an extrovert and he hardly give details. While I was talking the pastor kept shaking his head in pity After all my stories, he said the next thing was confession of our sins. I knew we were going to have problem with that because I doubt if my husband would want the old man to hear what we did with Prophet Ade. I raised my head and starred at my husband and he turned his face away, then I got the signal. The old man was patiently waiting for us to confess our sins. I was the one who broke the silence, sir we are all liars, we keep malice sometimes, we skip our tithe most times and other sins we do daily unconsciously. The man sighed loudly and began to speak in tongues. I was not wayward but I knew I have committed an abortion before and I have never told my husband about it. Not even Toyin knew anything about the abortion. It was a secret I had kept for a long time. Could that be the source of our childlessness baba wants us to confess? But how can God block my womb for just one abortion yet I have seen many who lived a dirty lives with several abortions who have good marriage and wonderful children today. This can’t be the reason, I waved the thoughts away. Baba insisted he won’t pray for us if we don’t confess the main sin that had rendered us childless. I excused my husband, is there anything you know that we need to confess? Nothing more than what I have told you before, he replied. We went back to baba, sir we have thought and flashed back but can’t remember anything we did that we have not confessed. He didn’t argue with us but refused to pray for us, not even a word of prayer. As we drove back home my husband did not utter a word as he drove. I turned from the front seat and looked at Toyin, I thought you said your pastor is powerful and he could help us? Yes, she replied. He had helped many other people and the testimonies are everywhere. Deaconess Adeola waited for fifteen years before she met with papa and today she has been blessed with two boys. Dr Ogun and his wife had no child when they joined our church five years ago but today they have a son. I believe your case won’t be different. The same God who did for Deaconess Adeola and Dr Ogun will do it for you. She encouraged us. When we got home that night we barely talked to each other over the issue. I didn’t want Kassim to ask me if I have something I haven’t confessed. I have told him everything about my paste except for the abortion. I really don’t want him to know about the abortion because his reaction may be devastating. Kassim is a very jealous man who cannot withstand knowing his wife was ever impregnated by someone he knew. I have confessed to God and he has forgiven me, I can’t open the old wound again. God is merciful and he will not let my sins of many years to be remembered. Kassim’s silence and indifference over what Toyin’s pastor told us worried me a lot but “he that comes to equity must come with clean hands”. I can’t accuse him when I myself is guilty. For one week, none of us said anything about it. Should I go back to baba behind my husband to confess my abortion? What if he insisted I must do the confession before my husband? I can’t stay another year without having my own baby. I need to carry my own child soon. I will summon courage today and talk to Kassim over what baba said. Maybe he has something he’s hiding, he too must confess it. Read Previous Episode Here https://officialuniqueblog.com.ng/2020/05/09/story-abomination-episode-1/ Please come back for Episode 3.

Music/Radio / Top 3 Things You Should Do After Recording Your Song.... by officialunique: 10:25pm On May 21, 2020 |
Yesterday I talked about doing the underground WORK during this break...& believe me, there's so many WORK an upcoming artiste/Entertainer have to do but today, let's talk about AFTER YOU RECORD YOUR SONG as an artiste. What do you do before releasing it?? If this was a class, I know some of you would say 'PROMOTE IT!! This is true but that's not the first 3 things to be done... So without much talk, let me what needs to be done... 1. DON'T PLAY IT FOR YOUR FRIENDS TO JUDGE. As an Artiste, it's important you understand that there's a fine line between those who KNOWS and those who think they KNOW. Your friends and family likes you and they would be biased when they hear your song. & No matter how wack or good it is, they will tell you it's DOPE. so they're not a good auditor of your music. You as an artiste should have a List of DJs, Professionals, Quality Artistes, Producers & Mentors who understand you & who you trust their judgement.....Send the song to them for review, it ll open your eyes MORE to adjustments. 2. REWORK on the SONG to the BEST. Less i forgot, the people you sent the song to intially must not be more than 15 no matter what...or else is as good as u have released it. After the review, do the needful to make it TOP NOTCH. And please no matter how you retouch the song, make sure you LOVE the song. As an upcoming artiste/Entertainer alot of the promotion depends on you, so if you don't love the song yourself it won't go ANYWHERE. Music/Radio / As An Artiste, What Will Be When The Covid 19 Is Over…. by officialunique: 10:40pm On May 09, 2020 |
When this Covid 19 pandemic is all over, the underground WORK being done will speak for the real entertainers…Those who didn’t get the scope, will struggle to catch up. But those who got it & did their assignment deligently will get rewarded. Since the begining of the Lockdown, thousands of events as been put on hold & everyone as been forced to stay at home. Now since we all at home & there’s so much of free time, where do we turn to? Family. Food. Social media. What else? The A List artistes are already doing their Jobs, which is keeping your attention glued to them. Now there’s so much of Celebrities going Live on Instagram, challenging themselves, doing live concerts and giving you something to enjoy ONLINE. At least if we can’t go out, we have our phone right? But that’s not my real concern. I’m more concerned about you as an Entertainer that’s still growing…What are you doing to keep your own Little fans entertained? & How consistent are you? I mean, apart from the WhatsApp updates & the sharing of links…what are the real stuffs you’re doing?…. Are you recording songs?…doing daily freestyle videos?…..planning on REBRANDING or your even targeting Big sponsors who can help?…. Because Bro! You have to be doing something or else you’ll carry last ❌ Long before the Covid-19 pandemic sef, some celebs have been a good example. Lasisi Elenu (the comedian) drops quality funny skits everyday on IG .. I mean everyday! & this affects his followers growth astronomically… Imagine what your favorite stars like Davido, Burna Boy, Ed Sheeran n co are up to right now…Yes they might be spending time with their families & taking time to bond….but most importantly they are doing the UNDERGROUND work & at the same time they’re keeping you entertained..so when all this is over, they can be FIRM ON TOP. Dear friend, the option is yours. You can either use this break to FUEL UP, do the underground WORK, keep your fans BUSY consistently you can come out on TOP…or You can just sit in your house, Eat food , sleep 5 times a day …& After all this is over, you’re still where you are. Piece by Daniel Scott Eleh. Literature / [STORY] The Abomination Episode 1 by officialunique: 2:18pm On May 09, 2020 |
Many a times people go through life’s challenges without knowing the source of their problem. This was the case of my husband, Kashim Olabisi. We were married for ten years without an issue. We had done many tests and sought for all manner of medical help to no avail. We even did IVF twice but they both failed. The second IVF we did in the US that failed was the first failure in Dr James Daniel’s career. All medical reports pointed to the fact that we were both medically fit to have children but none came after ten years. Beside childlessness, we had loads of problems in our marriage. My marriage with Kashim was like hell loosed on us. We attempted many spiritualists and prayer houses but we couldn’t get help. Our search for a baby led us into many abominable things and almost stole our salvation from us. The frustration, humiliation and anxiety was unspeakable. It was so bad that one of the prophets we went to had to sleep with me right in the presence of my husband and then asked my husband to do same thereafter. Assuring us that his sperm will prepare the ground for my husband’s own to fertilize my egg to enable me conceive. That month, I didn’t get pregnant and he advised we have to repeat the process all over. Words cannot explain the pain and shame I went through, having sex with a man I didn’t love in the presence of my husband just because I wanted a child. It will be difficult to believe the second process didn’t give the desired result and we had to do it again. This time for one week non stop. I was having sex with two men at the same time, one after the other in front of each other for eight days. Toyin my friend, was my saviour who aborted the fourth attempt. We had scheduled to meet with Prophet Adelaja for two weeks on the same process when I confided in Toyin. What? Toyin screamed. Are you out of your senses, Nneka? How can you accept to do this dirty thing because you wanted a child? Don’t you know only God gives children and his time is the best? But why? Why? Why? She asked and bursted into bitter tears. This time you are not going back to that wicked and heartless prophet again. In fact, I will get him arrested and make sure he rots in jail. We looked at each other and cried bitterly. Toyin knew what I had been through all these years while trusting God for a child. Please, Toyin you can’t arrest the man. You want everyone to know what had happened between us? You would obviously make me and my husband a laughing stock. Please drop the idea of arresting him, I begged Toyin. She quickly adjusted her emotion and reasoned with me. You are right Nneka but that man must not go unpunished. Do you know how many other women he must have molested like you? He must pay for his evil acts. She rained curses on him in her bitterness. But how we both agreed with my husband to do such an abomination is yet a mystery to me. I will take you to my pastor tomorrow for prayer and counseling. You may also need to carry out some medical checks on yourself. I just hope he hasn’t infected you with dangerous diseases! It will never be well with him in Jesus name. This man will not know peace, his children and children’s children will pay for his evil deeds. I hate him, Toyin boiled. She picked her phone and called her pastor, booking an appointment with him. I will be coming with my friend, Nneka. Tomorrow was like a year to me, I wished we could start going immediately. But how am I going to tell my husband that we are not seeing Prophet Ade but Toyin’s pastor? I began to think how to convince my husband. Please come back for Episode 2. Crime / One Million Boys by officialunique: 6:10am On Apr 21, 2020 |
Just the night before we were worried about the impact of the lockdown and what it would mean for those who get paid for daily labour. In the morning, we started hearing news from friends in the farther side of Lagos towards Ogun state of robbery and chaos caused by the One Million Boys. We felt it wasn’t much of an issue since the Nigerian Police Force were on ground, until we began to have sleepless nights, and our fathers, mothers and sons began to sharp cutlasses/knifes to protect themselves from these young touts in training. They were professional about their attack, they sent letters to areas they perceived was a hideout for dollars right? Well, No. They robbed both the rich and poor. It made me understand they were not all that irrational, they knew what they were doing, they had minds, they thought, they calculated that somehow there was something we were protecting and even if it was N1,000 they wanted to have it. If you consider stories of armed robbers that made history in Nigeria, take ANINI from eastern Nigeria for example how that he stole and shared it amongst the poor. It created a sort of balance for a while right? Steal from the wealthy and give to the poor. However, ANINI was wrong because he stole the money. When you ask the average Nigerian what’s the problem of our nation, he’d be quick to tell you it’s the Government. Why didn’t these One Million Boys steal from the Government then? The answer can be annoying. I realized, It wasn’t the Government that gave birth to the One Million Boys. It was the average Nigerian man. Our problem is the society, we have been somehow conditioned to fight the truth and avoid it. Men have stopped being Fathers. There’s a flaw in the community. Most men are just giving births without taking the responsibility for being good fathers. These kids are left alone to an isolated world, their fathers are busy smoking pipes at bus stops and carrying too many concubines than their waist can afford. I’ve seen videos of some of these bright boys killed, beyond their attack I see broken boys left alone in a world that seemed like it didn’t care for them. I do not claim that their actions were right in any way, but what inspired these actions? We need good fathers in our homes. Isaac Newton said ‘if we have seen any farther in life, it is because we have stood on the shoulders of those who have gone before us’ We are quick to say what we need is a better society, better roads, lights and jobs but then the government is only reacting to the system that created it. The system that created the Government is the home. Even those who claim to be street boys during this pandemic look no different from the One Million Boys, the difference is maybe they have decided not to steal because they have chosen to see life differently. Maybe One Million boys didn’t have that luxury to. On a final note, these One Million Boys are still amongst us, let’s show them how to live life in our own little way before they become the ravenous beast they turn into when life gets hard and they can’t seem to understand it. This is what I think. When someone sends you a letter, it means they want to communicate something vital to you. Written by TheVictorOba
