Politics / Nigeria's Democracy- In Death Throes by Ohmohm: 10:18am On Feb 17, 2023 |
The omen in the political heaven of Nigeria presuppose a delibrate and machinated attempt by some set of peopel to truncated her democracy. Democracy is an idea, where groups of people come together to device a mean of organising their society in an orderly, peaceful and prosperous manner. It is predicated on justice and among many other things on the rule of Law. Salient points 1.Our democracy is entrenched on the tripod of a three tier of government. The Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary. There no tier of government that is subservient to another. They complement and keep each in check. 2 Secondly, our democracy must take into consideration the ethnic differences of our nation. No ethnic group is subservient or "low-classed" to another. Justice dictate that all in this contraption called Nigeria must be given opportunity to thrive. It must not, ye, never be allowed, that one ethnic group would feel disenfranchised and subjugated by another. Also In a democracy the utmost benefit of the people is to be engendered. And this cannot and will never be achieved, where justice is trampled upon and rule of law denigrated. Power corrupts absolutely, absolute power corrupt absolutely. And if I may add, the object/victim of corrupt absolute power are consumed absolutely. Where one tier of government display absolute corrupted power, then we must beware of absolute destruction. Today democracy in Nigeria is in its death throes because Justice is victimised and vandalized while the rule of law is misappropriated or outrightly trampled upon. This to my simple mind does not portend good for the country. For every action there is an equal reaction. Have we asked ourselves what the reaction to the outright disregard fornthe rule of law in this nation portend. Conjecture/Questions What will happen if the election does not hold? What will happen if the wish of the people is not entrenched. What will happen if military takes over(" God forbid bad thing" due to violence that may result as a consequence to disregard for the rule of law. I pray for the prosperity and peace of all regions in this contraption, and that our leaders would lead us aright. Amen. |

Someone once made a now famous quote," Those who forget the past, are bound to repeat it. As a people bound by shared history, heritage and relationship. It incumbent on us to that are alive at this period in our national live to prevent the resurrection of the past. By the looks of recent happenings, it seems history is aiming to repeat itself. But we must not allow this. As difficult as the time is, let's be calm, support each other, be our neighbours keeper. A lot of people are hungry, some are angry. It no gainsaying that people are suffering. Businesses are almost comatose. We as a people must rise to the occassion. We cannot continue to whine and bicker. We can not continue to do the same thing and expect a different result. In this trying times the masses must realise by now that they only have each other. Lets support each other - let POS agent be their brother's keeper . the banker should do the same, likewise the police, farmer. Everyone must support each other now more than ever before. Lastly we must vote wisely, else slavery continues. |
