While others are busy indulging in Islamic terrorists i.e Abdumutallab aka the underwear bomber and Adebolaoja aka the Islamic beheader, the great thinker and writer was busy, putting his homeland on the international stage, on a positive note cool.

Achebe drew the world closer Obama and Michelle

04 June, 2013

By Uduma Kalu

Lagos—United States President, Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle have described the late Nigerian novelist, Prof. Chinua Achebe as a “Revolutionary author, educator, and cultural ambassador.”
In a letter made available to Vanguard but addressed to the Achebe family and read by a White House representative, at the Celebration of Life event for Chinua Achebe, last Sunday night, at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium, Washington, DC 20240, Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama said Achebe was a “Revolutionary author, educator, and cultural ambassador.

“Achebe shattered the conventions of literature and shaped the collective identity of Nigerians throughout the world. With a dream of taking on misperceptions of his homeland, he gave voice to perspectives that cultivated understanding and drew our world closer together. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all whose lives he touched with the everlasting power of his art.”
The event which also featured an arts exhibition and reception kicked off at 6 pm. Other highlights of the event included tributes from public and private friends and dignitaries, cultural dance troupes, music, masquerades and tributes.
The Francesca Harper project provided a thrilling ballet and the former Nigerian based US citizen, Chuck Mike theatre group enthralled the crowd with a theatrical production of a scene from Achebe’s Things Fall Apart.
Professor Mike reportedly had the audience laughing with his rendition of his experiences in Nigeria and the idiosyncratic tendency of Nigerians to respond with the phrase “we thank God” when asked a variety of questions in various scenarios.
The Afrobeat band Eme and Heteru thrilled the crowd with electrifying music. Speakers included the host, Johnnetta Cole, President emeritus of Spelman and Bennet Colleges and now director of the Smithonian museum of African Art; Ruth Simmons, former president of Brown University, Poet Sonia Sanchez, Micere Mugo and Simon Gikandi, Scott Moyers, president of Penguin, and Jules Chametzky, professor emeriti of Umass Amherst, where Achebe spent time in the 1970s and 80s. Management Agency, Alhassan Barde, said he is yet to ascertain the worth of materials destroyed in the inferno.
He said the state Deputy Governor Ignatius Longjang, has visited the scene of the fire outbreak. He further said investigation was on to unravel the cause of the fire.

Na wa o, If I didn't go thru ur previous posts I woulda sworn that you loved yorubas and that you were one urself... I'm not calling you a deceitful bigot o, I'm just saying this ur post sha e get as e be.

Anyway, some caught my attention (apart from the fact that most of ur points above are littered with obvious lies and blatant inaccuracies): you faulted Buhari for never speaking up against Abacha's regime--- Could you pls remind us of just one notable Igbo leader that spoke up against Abacha's Govt? Also, could you please tell us who were the founders of Association for Better Nigeria and their role in promoting Abacha's as life President. Finally, if you don't mind, pls remind us the role of Arthur Nzeribe and the Abacha Presidency.

Thanks in advance.
Spoken/written like a typical ya.riba coward cum hausa/fulani slave. Have you people no shame, no truth? Shameless battyman! Buhari is finished based on his past and present utterances. An animalistic battyman like you, kingofag cannot redeem the terrorist. Like abdumutallab aka the underwear bomber, like michael adeboloja aka yari.ba terrorist. Freaking battyman! I'm quite sure your gaping ar.se hole must be wide open and smelly after all the pillaging from your hausa/fulani masters. Batyyman! grin

The plantain dish is a good one. The best way to go about this is to use unriped plantain (green plantain).

First boil the plantain.
Secondly, blend the plantain, make it's as smooth as possible.
Thirdly, pour it in a pot and put the pot on the stove/burner.
Stir with a wooden spoon till it's got the "fufu" texture.

I have no problem with anyone selling okirika made rotors, I just wish they will be honest and let their customers know what they are paying for. It is not good business practice or smartness to cheat people out of their money.
As for me, don't bother. I am just one of many.
Okay, let's stick to the matter at hand. Your plan to derail this thread is DOD grin. If you wanna debate on auto part, open a thread and I will gladly indulge you, as I'm an auto part dealer here in the US, and I will break every thing down for you. You will be amazed to find out the true source of the so called "Japanese parts" grin

I am damn proud of whatever education I got in Nigeria. Top notch, I must say. Quite different from how to sell Taiwan made rotors for Japanese one. grin
@ the bolded, are you certain it's top notch? Can you name the Uni/college and let's compare with what is obtainable around the world today? If you didn't graduate from the era of Professors Soyinka and Achebe (which I'm 100% certain you didn't), then you are living in denial.

BTW, without the "Taiwan rotor", how do you intend on affording a Japanese one? Even here in the US, there is an after market (OEM) for every automobile part.

So, act like it. I'm older than you by a good chunk, not by much, but enough. I had my daughter at your age, and bought my first house a year later. At 17yrs old I was already living on my own. So, you will pardon my anger when a lot of you come off as "partially-senile" and irresponsible sounding ---and extremely immature--- in your mode of reasoning resulting in how I relate to you.

Youre a grown man. In a normal society (the type of which we are fighting that you guys get) you wouldve have assumed some responsibilities and have started building your future instead of promoting myopic hate and regurgitating lies spread by, and benefitting, old-men politicians whose sole aim is to make sure youre down-trodden even after they are dead and buried.

At your age, I bet you still live with your parents. I bet you couldnt get a job that could at least give you a decent pay--- relative to your young age and job inexperience/lack of work history--- to at least make you be able to maintain yourself in a decent enough way without resorting to crime or begging/relying on your parents for money. This is not to denigrate you in anyway, so dont take offense, but at your age you should have your own little crib, your own little car, your own little change to be able to have a good time with your own little girlfriend--- not promoting the hateful divisive agenda of the same bloody politicians thats done nothing but kept you in bondage just as they kept your fathers and grand-fathers enslaved.

When was the last time you took money out of your paycheck and bought gifts for your siblings? When was the last time you took money out of your paycheck at the end of the week and handed it to your mom in thanks for taking care of you since you were born? When was the last time you said to your parents and siblings "Hey, lets go out to dinner, its on me. I'll pay" ? Oh, you think at your age youre too young to do these little things in life that bring joy to you and those around you? Dude, at your age you should be planning to buy your own house in a few years time--- 3 yrs tops if youre smart about it. At your age you should be aspiring for greatness, not being stuck in a society where theres huge piles of trash on every road you walk on, no electricity and a billion generators booming at once, no effective transportation, cops that dont come to your rescue if a crime is being committed against your person, universities that go on strike for years, a hopeless job market, a society with a non-existent social welfare for its citizens, no medical care etc But, yet you wanna come on here all day everyday supporting old men that wont make these things possible because they'd rather use the money meant for your care and your future to buy Bentleys, Mansions, and Private Jets. Then what do they do? They feed you lies and untruths about your own brothers, your own fellow country men, and you swallow it hook, line and sinker, and instead of you asking GEJ or David Mark "Hey, why does my Father's minimum wage have to be $62/month while you earn $200,000.00/month?" or "Hey why arent there good roads and why is there trash on the street?", you come on here pointing fingers at those whom theyve lied to you are your enemies.

To cut a long story short bro, change your mindset and work towards a better society for your future and that of your unborn kids. And you can only do that by actively working against the corrupt politicians in your midst. True, you might be the son of a rich politician or someone wealthy so my words might not mean much, but on the off chance that you arent--- read your history properly, get familiar with it and only put in power those that hate corruption REGARDLESS OF THEIR TRIBE AND/OR RELIGION thats the only way youre bound to have a fighting chance in that hell-hole you call home. Because, if your father is not rich, or a politician in that country, Im sorry to tell you your fate wont be that much different from that of your fathers before you. If you dont presently live in Banana Island, Lekki, Ikoyi etc Look around you..... you see the hopelessness surrounding you? Thats your fate in a few years except you take action starting now.
grin grin grin Chei! See what being a f@g can cause to some boko pig like the poster of this crap? kingof_f@g, so you have all the time in the world to write about your miserable life history for us to read? Battyman! I can tell you dropped out of high school, hence; your dire need to impress upon undiscerning folks as to your non-existent achievement. Battyman, you are as empty as a vacum grin. May Amadioha sod@mise your smelly nyash angry. Animalistic battyman grin

Only some, out of the names you mention, add value to this forum. The rest are trouble-makers, prejudiced and divisive elements not ever willing to live-and-let-live. What you really miss, from what your previous writing reveals and the characters you deify, is the enduring rancour of the past those Nairalanders ensured was an abiding and definitive identity of Nairaland. Why don't you try and move your personal focus and scope of discussion away from things that put you in conflict with others?

Even illustrative you took time to group posters according to their ethnic group and hamlet of origin rather than simply view them as nairalanders. You may have sprinkled a few decent names in there, but I think you just want your ethnic warlords back.
And if I may ask; what is wrong with grouping folks according to their state of origin/ethnicity? Isn't that what nigeria is all about? Ain't you one of the biggest ethnic bigots on this dying site? You are a liar and will do/say anything possible to see that your folks ride back to power via the spent force called Buhari. Dude, I'm quite sure you're happy that most of the smart NLers have left, and you now think you have the monopoly of spreading your ACN/APC lies and propaganda Just be rest assured that come 2015, your plans will be dead on arrival.....2015 will be no different from 2011 cool.

My questions to any sane person here are: how can you talk of "economic revolution" in a place where you won't even allow the best to lead based on merit, rather you clowns operate a quota-based "everything"?

How can you realize "economic revolution" without a heavy-based-industrial manufacturing and not this culture of foreign goods "consumerism"? For e.g, government won't patronize a local vehicle manufacturer in nigeria.

How can terrorists/genocide sympathizers expect to achieve this so called "economic revolution" without starting from the basic task of reviewing the african borders, made in Berlin, Germany? Many questions, but no answers. Conglomeration and agglomeration of battymen calling themselves "intellectuals" grin grin grin Chei! shocked shocked shocked only in the african/nigerian jungle can you find such.
