Health / Breastfeeding Can Boost Economies, Save Children’s Lives – UN by OkNaijaComNg(m): 5:33am On Aug 04, 2017
Increasing the number of mothers who breastfeed will save lives, make children smarter and boost global economies, according to a UN report released Tuesday.

The report tittled:“The Global Breastfeeding Collective”, was led by UNICEF and the WHO.

The UN agencies, therefore, called on countries to invest in educational campaigns and health programmes to encourage breastfeeding as well as enforcing an international code to prevent the misleading marketing of formula milk.

According to the research, only 40 per cent of children under six months are exclusively breastfed, which is the first worldwide analysis of its kind.

Tedros Ghebreyesus, director-general of WHO said in a statement that mothers should start breastfeeding within one hour of birth and continue until the child is two years old.

“Feeding them exclusively with breast milk for the first six months is highly recommended by WHO and UNICEF.

“Breastmilk works like a baby’s first vaccine, protecting infants from potentially deadly diseases and giving them all the nourishment they need to survive and thrive.

“If targets for 50 per cent of babies to be exclusively breastfed by 2025 are met, 520,000 children’s lives could be saved over the next 10 years.

“Cognitive boosts could generate 300 billion dollars in economic gains across lower- and middle-income countries, the World Bank estimates,’’ Ghebreyesus said.

According to figures from the Global Breastfeeding Collective, every dollar invested in breastfeeding generates 35 dollars in economic returns.

The report calls for an investment of 4.7 dollars per newborn into efforts to increase the number of babies under six months who are exclusively breastfed; this translates to a global investment of 5.7 billion dollars.

Romance / Sex Secrets Every Man, Woman Must Know by OkNaijaComNg(m): 5:24am On Aug 04, 2017
In any relationship, sex is a key part that many believe deepen love and affection.

While it is impossible to explain all male behaviours, here are five sex secrets that may help every man and also help women understand their spouse.

Men fear they’ll let women down

According to a research article published by TNN, men desires to perform sexually. Suddenly, the pressure to perform is on, and he can’t help but feel like he has to please you.

Even though you may not be so bothered about his performance and you might forgive him for a few poor performances, he has a hard time forgiving himself.

Warning: If your man has a recurring problem of performance, he may start to blame you to protect his ego. Be prepared to handle this situation.

What to do: Don’t take it personally or, worse, insult him. And never laugh! Just pretend that it is no great deal for you.

Men need validation to get their groove on

Sex is a source of power from ages, and it gives proof that one is masculine. To a man, having sex means that he can move a woman, that he’s energetic, a provider and a lover.

Your guy wants to be a superhero, and he certainly wants you to see him in that light. When he satisfies you sexually, he feels like superman. If you’re enjoying yourself, let him know that.

Warning: No encouragement means no fun. Whether you are enjoying yourself or not, just be encouraging.

What to do: A good rule of thumb: Don’t fake it but don’t fight it. Just look happy and satisfied and that would make your man feel super.

Men don’t like waiting too long

Women should never hold out to have sex simply because of the so called rules of dating. He is more likely to commit if there is a sexual component to the relationship, and it is important for him to know that you find him sexually desirable.

Warning: If your guy is offended when you initiate sex, get rid of him.

What to do: We’re all sensual beings; we might as well be who we are. So don’t be afraid to make a move.

Men too are conscious about their bodies

Men may not worry about weight nearly as much as women do, but they do have their own image issues.

Warning: Most men are quite concerned about their general physical condition, height and baldness. In other words, they are hoping for mood lighting in the bedroom just as much as women are.

What to do: Help your man by telling him that you find him attractive and showing him affection.

Most men will not forgive a cheating girlfriend

Men who have been betrayed, especially in the bedroom, are far less likely to forgive their partners than women in the same situation.

Warning: Men want loyalty at all cost.

What you can do: Show your loyalty not only by remaining faithful when in a committed relationship, but also by supporting your man in front of colleagues and friends and defending him when necessary.

This allegiance will make your man more secure and will give him the motivation to let loose in the bedroom with you. Men want commitment just as much as women do; they just want it packaged differently.

Romance / What Popular Relationship Advice Books Won’t Tell You by OkNaijaComNg(m): 11:26pm On Aug 01, 2017
Have you ever taken a good look at the selection of ‘mainstream’ books on relationships? You know, the type you find filling shelf space at the local Barnes and Nobles?

I have. I had a good read through the other day. And you know what? In my humble opinion, barely one out of a hundred is worth the paper it’s printed on.

This got me thinking… how come there is so little good advice to be found in all these relationship books? Because if I didn’t know any better, and actually followed the advice I saw, not only would I not have the type of relationship I truly desire, but I’d be stuck in a kind of relationship ‘purgatory’ for months (and perhaps years) while searching my soul for the answer. I’ve seen it happen.

After thinking about this for a while, it dawned on me. They are not really out to help us at all! The majority of these books are designed to sell. And they do this by coming up with a cute-sounding pet theory, packaged with a catchy title.

Add an author with half an alphabet behind their name… cue up some generic sounding cover blurbs from the usual suspects and voila! Another hot seller.

If I sound a little cynical, I’m sorry. But the lack of real advice I found was surprising. But before you get me wrong, there were a few good titles out that actually had some nuggets of wisdom.

Sadly, none of them really pulled it all together and told the complete story of how to have great relationships.

It seems to me that most popular relationship books are really just built around one idea (then padded with filler content), so I thought I’d give you one killer relationship secret that I haven’t shared anywhere else.

This secret has been responsible for cutting short almost every little argument I used to have with my partner. You know the type, the trivial, annoying little arguments that pop up and grate on your nerves.

It’s so simple that I can’t believe I hadn’t heard it before. But after I read about this secret (and no, it was not in any mainstream relationship advice book). The quality of our relationship increased dramatically.

In fact, my girlfriend actually told me that no one else had ever done this for her before, and that she loved me even more for being able to do it.

But before I tell you what it was, there is another problem with most relationship books on the market today.

The problem is that the majority of them are written by purely academic writers. Now I have no problem with advanced degrees. But I do not subscribe to the idea that simply having a collection of letters behind your name qualifies you to dole out advice about real-world relationships.

Again, this is not an attack on all authors. Because there are exceptions that combine real world experience with book learning. But they are rare.

Anyway, I was going to share that secret…

It’s simple really. I made a promise to my girl that if I ever did something or said something that annoyed her, she could tell me and I would never do that thing again. Now this didn’t mean I would let her tell me I couldn’t enjoy a beer, or watch Football. I’m talking about the little things.

For example, I had a habit of

Fashion / Making Up The Right Way by OkNaijaComNg(m): 10:57pm On Aug 01, 2017
I have been asked so many times advice about how to make up with an ex, that I decided to simply write my views about it here. All of you should know, as a rule, that love is not a dead sea. More time than once, a couple will encounter difficulties and very hard times. Difficulties can come in any form, from behavior problems, to excessive jealousy, to miscommunication, misunderstanding or recurring fights.

While most of these issues can be fixed and talked through, it is important to always keep a relation as safe as possible for both partners and their kids. I am profoundly against any physical violence and I would never advise anyone involved in an abusive relationship to make any attempt to fix it, unless the violent partner agrees to undergo a serious therapy. The kind of reconciliation I am talking about here concerns the basic day to day difficulties encountered by couples.

What I am talking about is common problems, like a boyfriend coming late from work most of the time, staying out for a beer with friends, and not calling. The kind of small little things men do without measuring their consequences. Men, as a matter of fact, tend to forget the simple details of a life in a couple like communicating anything to our partner that may cause them to worry. The best way to sort out any issues in your relationship is of course to talk.

It is up to you, ladies, to sit your man down and clearly explain to him what is it that he is doing wrong. Always remember this, men usually do not worry the same way women do, and for this reason should be reminded as often as possible. Talking to a man should not be a fight, or a lesson that one should learn or else… As difficult as it might be, women should try to talk about what they deem important without making it a drama. Again, what seems to most women like a major issue will not be perceived the same way by your man.

Therefore trying to put your opinion through as a matter of life and death will not bear the fruits you are expecting. You will only manage to get frustrated and start a useless fight. In the case when you get to that point, the best way to make up, or solve the issue is to talk about it, in a calm manner. Wait until you are both rested and more receptive, and do something together that always bounds you. Try and you will see how the conversation will open up on its own. Remember, it is not about who is right or wrong in a relationship, but about how do you both agree on something without anyone feeling hurt or disadvantaged.

Business / 5 Tips To Capture Pictures For Your Business Website by OkNaijaComNg(m): 10:13pm On Aug 01, 2017
When visitors see your design of any website, they hope to see images. Top-notch photographs make an excellent impression. That’s why you ought to give extra consideration to images on your website.

Here are a few tips that will help you take amazing pictures for your business website.

1. Capture Low Resolution Pictures

Don’t be surprised because you read it right – Low Resolution. Capturing images for sites is quite different from capturing photographs that are used to make prints. Site images are by and large captured at 72dpi, which implies that even a 640 x 480 picture is genuinely enough.

You can most likely set the camera for around 1280 x 960 pixels or similar. If you decide to go against this idea, then the outcome will be a bigger file size that will slow down the speed of your website pages. In reality, the photos on any common webpage are just 248×164 in size.

No matter what resolution you pick, edit the photos so they are the right size required on your webpage, and then use them on your business site. Try to compress the images if they are in JPEG (.jpg) format. You can easily make this change by setting the picture quality when it is saved. Don’t try to upload full-size images and then resize them with HTML.

2. Lighting

Ensure the photos you get are sufficiently bright. By and large, evade the utilisation of flash unless it is necessary or utilised as fill-in flash. The principle source of light need not be behind the subject, like a bright window behind the subject. You won’t like getting dark images with low contrast.

3. Focus and Composition

Every single advanced digital camera capture images that are in focus, however is the focus on what you need? While you’re capturing a photograph of a man or woman, you need to get background out of focus to ensure that it doesn’t cause any distraction. Abstain from taking long-distance shots of groups. No one will take a look at their feet; rather you should focus on taking close-ups.

Similarly, if you own an office or a store, a photo of your workplace exterior or an interior may look amazing, additionally take close-ups of individual counters, walls with good displays, so that website visitors can easily observe the type of products and services you offer. To get highly professional images for your business website, you should hire an expert photographer who can deliver results.

4. Viewpoint

Lower your camera (bend down) while capturing photographs of individual. This will allow your camera to come at bust height, and not at the height you would be at if you’ve chosen to stand up.

5. Setting Camera Colour Temperature

No matter what sort of image you capture, the camera need to be set to coordinate with the source of light. Try not to rely on upon your camera to choose this setting automatically. All cameras have settings like Sunlight, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Incandescent, so you need to choose the right one.

Politics / Waku Fires Back At Buhari’s Aide, Sagay For Insulting Nigerian Senate by OkNaijaComNg(m): 9:22am On Jul 31, 2017
A chieftain of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Joseph Kennedy Waku has hit the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), for labeling the Nigeria Senate as primitive, stone age.

Waku said the comments showed that Sagay was selfish and ignorant of the legislature.

Waku told journalists in Makurdi yesterday that Prof. Shagay’s over exaggerated opinion of the Senate meant that even as a professor of law, he lacked competence when it comes to legislative matters.

He said Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara became the leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives in the most democratic manner of non-partisan participation for the first time without party or executive influence.

His words: “I feel Prof. Sagay, as a renowned professor of law, does not have monopoly of knowledge and should not condemn the Senate in its entirety.

“He should be teaching the younger ones what they need to know rather than display bias, which can make him lose credibility among well meaning Nigerians.

“There are certain things in law he knows and am not challenging him on the basis of law, but to speak for the executive as if he has become the spokesman of the federal executive, in my view, is not right.

“He should know that once you become a senator, you divorce yourself from partisanship and become a Nigerian lawmaker for which I believe the senate has been doing it best.”

“As a constitutional lawyer that he is, I would expect him to challenge the issues that he has raised in court so as to get the national assembly on its fit rather than cry wolf where there is none,” he added.

Romance / Mischievous Girl Or Predictable? by OkNaijaComNg(m): 8:59am On Jul 31, 2017
Women who are really secure are confident, not arrogant. Men can smell the difference and a confident woman is flat out sexy.

What makes a woman confident is when she has the ability to live a centered life. She believes in herself and her dreams. She goes out and does something great and she absolutely, unequivocally does not hang on a man’s attention or opinion.

Sometimes confidence is tested when you meet a man who appears to draw you in. There’s a tendency to lean in too much because he seems so intriguing.

And this is where NOT being nice aka a doormat come into play. Men are flattered by nice women but they hardly find anything fascinating about them.

If you want to know, I am not advocating being a demanding wrench – act like this and men will do everything to get away from you.

Nice equals boring

Mischievous equals electrifying

Become a playful woman who just might burn an impression of yourself on a man’s mind. When you are being mischievous, you need to play it up, change it up, return back to base and leave em’ thinking.

Men love this. A woman who can round up a good does of mischief builds a man’s attraction for her. As with anything, steady it with balance.

Keep it moving, don’t overdo it, and use a little ebb and flow to gently rock a man into overdrive. Love it!

If you’ve ever experience how a man can be enticed by mischief, drawn in it’s magnetism, and almost fall at your feet, then you’ll know the sweet power of mischief.

You’ll leave him wanting!

Health / Scientists Discover Ways To Prevent Spread Of HIV Through Vagina [PHOTO] by OkNaijaComNg(m): 12:21am On Jul 31, 2017
Breakthrough has been recorded by Scientist in the designing of an object that will limit the spread of HIV during sexual intercourse.

Success has been recorded when a test was carried out on teenage girls in the US and plans are currently ongoing to carryout test in Africa.

The viginal ring which is said to prevent HIV infection contains anti-retroviral drug called dapivirine and is used for a month at a time.

Dapivirine inhibits HIV’s reverse transcriptase enzyme, a protein vital to HIV’s ability to replicate and cause an infection.

One or more microbicides are contained in each intravaginal ring that are intended to be delivered into the vaginal compartment at a high concentration and to be directly absorbed by the cells and tissues.

The usage of this flexible viginal ring which sits on the cervix gives women the freedom to protect themselves without relying on men to wear condoms. The viginal ring is said to cut infection by 56%.

The study concluded that the ring was safe and acceptable to young women, after a six-month trial to ascertain its effectiveness. The result revealed that 87 percent of ninety-six sexually active girls who partook had detectable levels of the drug in their vagina.

Principal investigator and vice chair of the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Sharon Hillier said “HIV doesn’t distinguish between a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old. Access to safe and effective HIV prevention shouldn’t either, young women of all ages deserve to be protected.”

This would be the first method of prevention exclusively for women, if the ring gets regulatory approval.

The study was presented at the 9th International AIDS Society conference in Paris.

Sports / Why Manchester United Must Not Sell De Gea To Real Madrid – Herrera by OkNaijaComNg(m): 10:43am On Jul 25, 2017
SOURCE: https://oknaija.com.ng/why-manchester-united-must-not-sell-de-gea-to-real-madrid-herrera/
Ander Herrera has said Manchester United cannot afford to lose David De Gea to Real Madrid this summer.

The La Liga champions are ready to test United’s resolve to keep De Gea, with a £60million bid for their long-term target,

The Spain goalkeeper almost moved to Madrid two years ago, but the move collapsed on deadline day.

But ahead of their clash with Real Madrid on Sunday, De Gea’s United and Spain team-mate Herrera, underlined the importance of keeping the stopper at Old Trafford.

“I’m repeating myself every day, but he’s a goalkeeper who can give you points and that’s very important,” said Herrera.

“I want to keep him here, to play with him, because he’s a fantastic keeper and also my friend.

“I think you can see he’s very focused on Manchester United and he’s doing a fantastic job for us.

“It’s like if you were to lose the top three in any position – like David is, like [Paul] Pogba is, like [Romelu] Lukaku is, like Marcus Rashford can be.

“We don’t want to lose them, we want to keep them, and David is in the top three. For me, he’s the best in the world, so I want to keep him here at United.”

Nollywood actor, Olurotimi Isaiah Ayinde, famously known as Abu Olododo is dead.

Ayinde died Monday morning in Abeokuta, Ogun State after a brief illness.

His demise is coming barely two days after the news of the death of veteran actor and poet, Adebayo Faleti, who died in Ibadan.

His colleague and friend, Ijaduade Waheed Abolaji, who confirmed the development on Monday, said the late actor would be greatly missed.

The bereaved actor told Punch that he had a brief phone conversation with the deceased on Sunday night.

He said, “We chatted for a while on that night. He even asked me about the outcome of a summit that I attended in Lagos. We talked about other things and we agreed to meet on Monday or Tuesday before I went to bed. I went to his residence to see him the following day (Monday) as agreed only to learn that he was dead.”

According to the actor, Ayinde’s co-tenants had decided to open the door of his room when he failed to show up in the morning and found him in a sitting position and lifeless.

“He never told me that he was sick. He appeared to be quite healthy when I spoke with him on the phone. His death remains a mystery to me,” Ijaduade said.

The actor has since been buried according to Muslim rites. ‎He was aged 51 and married with four children.

Health / Women who receive regular MouthAction are more faithful – Study Reveals by OkNaijaComNg(m): 7:59am On Jul 25, 2017
SOURCE: https://oknaija.com.ng/women-who-receive-regular-oral-sex-are-more-faithful-study-reveals/
Researchers have discovered that MouthAction is capable of preventing a woman from going astray in a relationship.

A research published in the Medical Daily draws this conclusion from a study of 243 men in long-term straight relationships.

The authors of the study tested to see if MouthAction has a definitive evolutionary purpose for women, or whether it’s just harmless pre-intimacy fun.

The study essentially found that women who are satisfied by their partners through MouthAction are much less likely to resort to cheating.

It added that MouthAction represents a key strategy for men to retain their women and keep them happy.

Medical Daily wrote: “The research showed that men who were most likely to report getting their partner to orgasm during MouthAction were more likely to think their woman was sought after by other men.

“Therefore, the more eager men are to please partners believed to have better options, the more likely they may be to perform cunnilingus to keep their mates from cheating.”

But biologists also believe that there is another reason why women have evolved to enjoy MouthAction so much.

Sex experts claim that when women have MouthAction performed on them before intercourse, it can drastically improve sex quality.

Not only does this increase the amount of arousal a woman feels, but it naturally lubricates things, which makes for higher quality sex.

In fact, it turns out that women may actually have evolved to be more attracted to men who regularly perform MouthAction on them.

In the first place you will never feel neglected or lonely if you are with him and he really loves you. He will make sure that you are always seen to and he will never think of ignoring you or your feelings if he really cares for you. This is a sure sign that you are important to him.

He will put you before everyone else

Have you noticed that he will always put you and your needs first? That he never brushes you aside for someone else? This means that he gives you great importance and priority over his friends and family. This special attention proves that you are very important to him and he sincerely loves you.

He will always consult you

Another easy way to know if you are important to him is to see if he talks to you and consults you before making decisions that concerns your relationship. If he is always considerate enough to find out what you think or feel regarding a particular matter – it proves that your needs and feelings are very important to him.

What you want will matter to him

He will never be selfish where you are concerned if you are important to him. He will make sure that your needs and desires are seen to first before his own. The very fact that he is careful not to hurt you in any way or leave you dissatisfied proves how much you mean to him.

He will willingly sacrifice for you

Have you noticed that your man is always willing to do without just so that you are happy? If you find that he willingly sacrifices his own desires and needs so as to keep you happy and content, it obviously means that you are very important to him.

He won’t do anything to hurt you

One surefire way to know if you are important to him is to look back and check if he has always kept his word, meant what he said and whether he has never disappointed or hurt you in any way since you have been dating. If the answer to that is yes, then you can rest easy in the knowledge that you mean a lot to him.

His one aim will be to please you

If he truly loves you, you will be important to him in every way. His one aim will be to make you happy, pleased and satisfied with him. He will consistently prove his love to you by taking on all responsibilities and duties of a devoted partner.

Sports / Okocha Reveals How Super Eagles Died In 2002 by OkNaijaComNg(m): 7:32am On Jul 23, 2017
Former Super Eagles skipper and captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has revealed how the dwindling fortunes of the Nigeria’s senior national football team, the Super Eagles started.

The former PSG legend traced the disbandment of the Super Eagles after the floppy performance of the team at the Mali 2002 African Cup of Nations as the beginning of the misfortunes for the national team.

Okocha, who is in Morocco at the ongoing CAF symposium on African football, said regrettably, that decision to disband the team caused the ‘death of the team’.

He said, “Everytime I remember that decision to disband the Eagles, my heart bleeds because it set back the hands of the clock in the growth of the team. It shattered the succession plan of the team and that has affected the growth of the team up to now”, Okocha, who is the toast of many Moroccans here, said.

“The Super Eagles third place finish at the 2002 African Cup of Nations forced Government to disband the team to assuage the anger of fans after the Semi- final loss to Senegal.

“A second string team of the Super Eagles managed to beat Mali by a lone goal to grab the bronze medal. Coaches Shaibu Amodu, Stephen Keshi and Joe Erico who handled the team, then, were also sacked. Okocha feels strongly that the decision to sack the team turned around to destroy the growth of the team.

‘’When you disband a team, you start from zero. It upsets all the progress you have made”, he insisted. Okocha who dazzled with his amazing skills was to be made captain of the team, taking over from Sunday Oliseh and their relationship waned.

“Those who disbanded the team pegged their relationship on curtailing the excesses of the so-called mafia in the team. They believed that some players were instrumental to fomenting trouble and holding officials to the jugular because of bonuses.

“That is not true. We were just like any other worker. We wanted our wages to be paid, our bonuses and ticket allowances refunded. We know our officials too well. If you listen to their sweet talk and don’t get your dues, that automatically disappears.

“What they call mafia was the love and understanding we had in the team. All the players were one and agreed in getting what was owed us from them. They didn’t like that and gave us a bad name. Mafia. It was like giving a dog a bad name.

“We also knew that they got more allowances than us and still wanted to deprive us our own. It was inhuman. We closed ranks to fight for our rights. Imagine flying on economy class without leg room.

“And they expect you to do magic on the pitch. Some players ended up getting injuries before the match or not giving their optimal best.”

Politics / Shehu Sani Dissociates People Of Kaduna From El-rufai’s Lashing Of Late Ahmadu B by OkNaijaComNg(m): 7:47am On Jul 22, 2017
Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Loans and Local debts, Senator Shehu Sani has dissociated the people of Kaduna Central Senatorial district, which he represents, from Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s criticism of late Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe.

In a video which was obtained by DAILY POST in Abuja on Friday, it showed the governor of Kaduna at a public function lashing at some founding fathers for not being committed to the unity of Nigeria.

He said, “our founding fathers maintained the regions, maintained divisions, because it benefited them politically.

“I know it is not politically correct to say that Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo did something wrong, but they did.

“They did not work hard enough to build a nation, they maintained what they found, and benefited politically from it.”

In a swift response on his Facebook, the lawmaker posited that El’Rufai had demeaned and uttered innuendos against those who worked hard to put the nation together.

“On behalf of myself and the good people of Kaduna central, the very district where the late Sardauna of Sokoto and the Premier of Northern Nigeria lived, served and was cruelly murdered by mutinous soldiers, I wish to unreservedly disassociate the good people of Kaduna Central from any demeaning utterances or denigrating innuendos by any person or group of persons against the Sardauna or any of the founding fathers of Nigeria.

“Sir Ahmadu Bello lived for his people and was murdered for his people, his principles; and we appreciate his exceptional, outstanding service and sacrifice to the north and to Nigeria.

“We equally also wholeheartedly appreciate the sacrifice and service of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and late Owelle of Onitsha, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.

“They fought for our freedom and laid the foundation for our nationhood.

“Kaduna city, Kaduna central and I believe the entire people of kaduna state, the north and Nigeria remain ever grateful.”

Sports / Arsenal Players Suffered Food Poisoning Before Bayern Game – Wenger by OkNaijaComNg(m): 7:02am On Jul 22, 2017
Arsenal players suffered food poisoning in Shanghai prior to their friendly game against German giants, Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Several Gunners’ key players were ruled out of the game due to the incident.

Arsene Wenger’s side were outplayed for long periods of game before salvaging a last minute 1-1 draw and then winning 3-2 on penalties.

Olivier Giroud could not play the match because of food poisoning, then captain Per Mertesacker pulled out of the game just moments before kick – off.

According to Wenger, new signing Sead Kolasinac had to come off before the break, while substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott both also felt unwell.

The Gunners could not find their feet in the first half in the 36 degrees Celsius (97F) heat and the French gaffer admitted that the extreme conditions in Shanghai were “a shock ” after flying in from Australia, which is in its winter.

Wenger said, “We worked very hard on Monday and Tuesday so I was a bit scared that tonight we could have big problems and in fact in the first half we suffered a bit.

“Ramsey finished the game (feeling) bad and Walcott, Kolasinac, Mertesacker, Giroud, they all had a little food poisoning.”

Wenger added that Arsenal, who will face Chelsea in Beijing on Saturday, did not know what caused the food poisoning.

Politics / Why Imo People May Stone My Successor – Okorocha by OkNaijaComNg(m): 4:05pm On Jul 01, 2017
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, says whoever will take over from him as governor may be stoned by the people if his performance falls below his standard.

Okorocha said this in a chat with State House correspondents on Friday.

He said that when he concludes his term, he would be remembered as “a good governor who impacted positively on the lives of the people.”

His words: “I am in this job not for the profit of it but for the honour and glory of the job. So I want to leave a legacy. I want Imo people to miss me and they will definitely miss me. Believe you me they have not seen such developmental work before now and they will miss it.

“The only problem I have is that anybody that comes after me and does not perform will be stoned. Because you cannot come to Imo State now and say you want to abolish free education from primary to university, they will not accept. I have spoilt Imo people believe me.

“You cannot come to Imo State and say you want to give them a single lane road when they are now used to eight lane road in the city, they won’t accept it. You cannot come here and tell the children to go to schools where the floors are not tiled they will not accept because all the schools have been rebuilt. I have rebuilt 450 schools.

“You can no longer take them to those ramshackle hospitals, those shanties they called hospitals because I have built 27 to 200 bed general hospitals. You can no longer tell them those stories. All the infrastructures are there.

“You cannot tell them that there are criminal activities any more and that your hands are tied they will not accept it because we know where we brought Imo from, from unsafe place to a safe place right now. And you can no longer tell our workers to dress shabbily they will not, they will want to dress in their suits and tie and white shirts. So Imo has changed believe me.

“I stand to be challenged and corrected by anybody that what we have done in Imo State in six years can be comparable to what any governor in that state living or dead has done.

“And if we put all of them together, I can’t say whether they can match what we have done. Have you seen me sounding boisterous? That is the truth. But the point is I don’t make media noise, I don’t make foundation laying stones Programme, I don’t bring women to dance because I want to lay foundation project. I don’t commission projects because for me it doesn’t make sense.”

Sports / Clash Of Legends: Manchester United Beat Barcelona 3 – 1 At Nou Camp by OkNaijaComNg(m): 3:53pm On Jul 01, 2017
Manchester United legends produced an impressive display to beat their Barcelona counterparts 3-1 at the Nou Camp on Friday night.

The United heavyweights have now established a handy lead ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford in September, thanks to goals from Jesper Blomqvist (14), Karel Poborsky (57) and Dwight Yorke (77).

At the other end, a star-studded Barcelona attack featuring Ronaldinho and Rivaldo produced some scintillating football, but the hosts were unable to find the net until Frederic Dehu managed to pull a goal back in the final minute.

Raimond van der Gouw was in goal for United in a match which raised money for the Pediatric Cancer Centre Barcelona (PCCB)

He produced a decent early save to keep out a Ronaldinho free-kick.

Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Patrick Kluivert created plenty of chances for Barca but the hosts could not quite get a breakthrough.

Barca, however, pulled one back when Dehu produced a calm finish.

The second leg, which will raise money for the Manchester United Foundation’s work, will be on September 2.

Sports / Private Jet From Madrid Lands In Manchester As Man Utd Close In On Deal For Alva by OkNaijaComNg(m): 2:19pm On Jun 30, 2017
A PRIVATE jet from Madrid landed in Manchester.
Man United target Alvaro Morata scores beauty for Spain.
The jet is believed to have touched down in Manchester on Wednesday night – and United fans think Morata could be on his way.

Manchester United are desperate to make Alvaro Morata their new striker and have held talks with Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho wants to be reunited with the Spain star, who he gave a Madrid debut to, at Old Trafford.

Manchester United were rebuffed after offering £60m but have continued talks despite Florentino Perez’s denials.

The Madrid president is keen to get top dollar for the 24-year-old as he looks to replace him with Kylian Mbappe.

And Express Sport understand that Morata has now told friends he has made up his mind on a move and the deal with Real is done.
The Monaco ace would cost a new world record transfer fee and is valued at over £100m.

“I think we’re not in negotiations with Manchester United, which is not to say that there are people around you who are talking, which is normal,” Perez told esRadio.

“I have read that we have reached an agreement I do not know how many million times, but it isn’t true.”

But other reports from Spain claim Morata has an agreement with United and is just waiting on the clubs to agree a fee.

He finished his honeymoon early to return to Spain to help push his exit forward.

And now the news of a plane landing in Manchester has given United fans hope that a deal is close.

According to Flight Aware the plane took off from Madrid and landed in Manchester last night.

The Manchester Evening News have a picture of the plane from today although stop short at claiming it was Morata on it.

United have also been spuriously linked with James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo, while David de Gea has been linked with a move the other way.

Mourinho is said to be growing frustrated at United’s transfer business so far this summer with only Victor Lindelof through the door so far.

Sports / I Am A Lion; Not A Bad Guy – Senegalese Football Legend, Diouf by OkNaijaComNg(m): 1:52pm On Jun 27, 2017
Senegalese football legend, El Hadji Diouf, has said that although he developed a reputation as a bad boy of football during his active days, he believes the media was unfair to him.

In England, he is remembered more for his controversial antics than for his football talent.

It is a trait that followed him in the English league clubs he played for – from Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers to Bolton Wanderers, with a spell for Rangers in Scotland as well.

Diouf was aggressive, spat at opponents and confronted match officials as well as opponents.

Now in retirement, he told BBC Sports his story.

He said: “I am a lion, I am a bad loser and it’s not wrong to be a bad loser,” says Diouf of his often combative mood during his playing days.

“I have got character and I want people to respect me.”

Diouf, who has now permanently moved back to the Senegalese capital, Dakar, said he was often misunderstood during his playing days in England.

“I am an easy target. It’s easy to talk about El Hadji Diouf and I let them talk but I know in my heart I am a good guy. My family knows, my population knows, my continent knows I am a good guy and that’s the best thing. The rest is not my problem.”

Despite this defence, Diouf admits he has done some bad things. When asked why, for example, he used to spit at opponents, he said: “Maybe they used to tell me something I didn’t want to hear. I did that, I paid and now it’s finished.”

Diouf is currently working back at home in Senegal as a government goodwill ambassador. He is President Macky Sall’s adviser on sport as well as running his own sports newspaper business in Dakar.

“My life is about sport but the government cannot do everything alone, they need help from people like me. The president believes in me and that’s why when I finished playing football, he called me and told me he wants me to help because the young generation believe in me. I am an example to them,” said Diouf.

Asked if he will consider a role in politics, Diouf said at the moment, he is concentrating on helping to develop his country – but cannot rule out the prospect of entering politics in future.

“I am interested because we have to make things change. People like me can make things change.

“We have a country to build, a continent to build and why not be involved in politics tomorrow?”

Twice presented with the African Footballer of the Year award by the Confederation of African football (Caf), Diouf was part of the 2002 trailblazing Senegalese side which reached the last eight at the 2002 World Cup, beating defending champions France along the way.

He describes that period as the greatest achievement of his career.

“We put Senegal on the world map. Before the World Cup nobody knew Senegal, but after the World Cup everybody wanted to know where Senegal was. What Maradona did for his country (Argentina) is what I did for Senegal. I was one of the biggest men at the 2002 World Cup.

“We were colonised by France, most of the businesses are run by French people here and to beat them was a big thing for us.

“Before the game, they used to say: ‘The French reserve team is going to play against the Senegalese first team’ – because most of the players used to play in the French league. I used to be in Lens, Salif Diao (Sedan), Khalilou Fadiga (Auxerre), most of the players played in the French league but we used to say: ‘Be careful before you kill the lion.’”

Diouf said he would like to do more to help develop football on the African continent, but feels structural changes need to take place.

“Fifa has changed and now it’s time for African football federations to change too,” he said. FOR MORE SPORTS NEWS

Celebrities / Biafra: Actor, Nkem Owoh Reveals Only Thing That Will Keep Igbos In Nigeria [VD] by OkNaijaComNg(m): 6:29am On Jun 23, 2017
Veteran Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has stated that marginalization was a key cause of the agitations by some Igbo groups.

He said the only way Igbos will be happy to stay in Nigeria was if the country can live in justice and equity, by giving the Igbos their rights.

He also said that if Igbos were treated like people of other parts of the country, they will give staying in Nigeria a try but since the actions of Nigerian authorities towards them is not ‘accommodating’ “then we say staying on our own is best for the long term.”

Osuofia, who spoke in Igbo language, said this in an interview with Ugwumba TV.

According to the 59-year-old Enugu-born thespian, “If Nigeria wants to reorganize itself and live in justice and equity, why not give it a try, but if our people have checked everything, right from the end of the war, to the 3 Rs which I did not see any till now, then we will say staying on our own is best for the long term.

“We all have to come together and support it.

“Nnamdi Kanu and his group have been peaceful so far, but it pains me so much when I read and watch videos of how police and soldiers attack our young ones, it broke my heart.

“To all our people in high political places, whether APC or PDP or any party you are in, you see the yearnings and agitations of our people and you shout “no no”, because you want to better your own lot, your family and grandchildren.

“Be wise, there is nowhere food is cooked and kept ready for you, if you want to use your people and do politics, let me say this to you, what is coming, you will feel like you are immune to it, but you will be the first one to be cut out and reduced to nothing.”

Reacting to the call by the coalition of Northern youths for Igbos to vacate the region in 3 months time, “Osuofia” said its better to for Igbos to start coming back early before the war will overtake them.

He said though it is difficult for one to abandon his investments, he maintained that life is more important than property and wealth.

Culture / Expelling Igbos From Northern Nigeria Will Have Grave Consequences – Fani-kayode by OkNaijaComNg(m): 2:30pm On Jun 07, 2017
The Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has said that there will be grave consequences if Igbos were kicked out of the North.

Fani Kayode stated this via his Twitter handle in reaction to the threat made by the Northern Coalition Groups.

The ex-Minister maintained that kicking the Igbos out of the North would not help matters in the country but rather complicate the fragile state of the nation.

He said: “Threatening the Igbo and kicking them out of the north won’t help. This time round the Middle Belt and the whole south will stand with them.”

“We want peace by restructuring and not violence. Unleashing genocide against the Igbo or anyone else in north will have grave consequences,” he added.

It could be recalled that a coalition of Northern Youth Groups tagged, “The Kaduna Declaration” had given all Igbos residing in any part of Northern Nigeria three months to relocate to their places of origin.
