To correct this.
The visa category is B1/B2 which is Business Tourism and Medical. So regardless of what your purpose is its the SAME visa category that they give B1/B2.

The real issue is your declared intention . You could have declared medical and put those details in your renewal for dropbox. It would then be the embassy's prerogative to call you for your interview or not.

Since you've read the thread you know that issues can arise at POE and subsequent renewals. Be prepared that's all.
Thank you for the clarification. My understanding was that since tourism was the basis for issuance of the B1/B2 visa renewing via drop box and now stating childbirth as the intention is a change in visa category which is not allowed for dropbox applications .Nevertheless I stand corrected .Yeah ' Be prepared'the age long motto of the boys scouts is our song and mantra.Nice one and many thanks!

Don’t bother with the medical visa. I renewed via Dropbox for both pregnancies and I was already pregnant. I declared at POE and carried enough burden of proof. Arm yourself with enough documents and cash and declare at the point of entry that you are here to have your baby. Also send the generic letter Incase the CBP officer asks if you informed the embassy. I hope you are aware that even with medical visa, we have read where they sent pregnant women back. I wish you all the best
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Much appreciated. Yeah merci for the best wishes..we run with it

That may be a problem, the VO addressed this issue in page 0 of this thread you may have to read it and make your own decision.
Thanks. Had seen that post and others which informed my request for advice in the first instance along with the consideration of reapplying for a medical visa .We will go on as planned as has also being advised by our friends on the forum. Many thanks

Sorry please, am I correct to say in essence she was pregnant before the Dropbox application, just that using the visa for birthing wasn't on the table as at then and as such there wasn't need to specifically indicate she was applying for a B2 visa? So visiting for a couple of days or at most less than a month may invariably be the declared intended length of stay in the application as it were?

If I may opine further then, this could then be an hurdle at renewal, but I see no big hassles at the POE if you guys stay on the plans you enumerated earlier on. It's your call, the choice remains yours.... Regards
Exactly you are very right. Our expired visa was for tourism and since we were eligible for dropbox we used that option to renew our visas. As you know for dropbox you can only renew for the same category of visa that is expiring or has expired. To get a different category of visa which in our case would have been a medical visa for birthing we would have gone for interview and not used the drop box option. Having received the renewed visas we decided that "wait a minute we can afford to have our last child in the US" and thus commenced the process of contacting a doctor in the US and other necessary processes. It is based on this scenario and with my going through the thread on this forum I requested for advice as ab initio the circumstances smack of misrepresentation of the facts. You are also dead on point on the period of stay as stated in our application- just shy of a month. Thank you for painstakingly going through my post and punching holes and of course giving your candid and honest advice. We will go for interview in the event of renewal of this present visa as dropbox has no room for necessary documents to show our zero balance when the time comes. No doubt as has been severally stated it is best from the onset to apply for a medical visa for child birth for DW and tourism for DH. From earlier posts DH accompanying DW for the missionary journey is an advantage. We go with your best wishes and prayers....Will share our POE experiences. Regards

Did you declare your intention to use the visa for child birth?
No.As stated earlier the decision to use the visa for childbirth was taken after the visa was issued and owing to what may be termed as misrepresentation informed my seeking advice from the forum.

There is no need to go for a fresh application, you don't need it, your b1/b2 covers medicals, all u need to do is send a letter to the embassy about ur intention, even though most people are of the opinion that this letter is irrelevant and doesn't add any credit to your future application, but some people have shared how this same letter made poe easier, so the choice is your,
just have all your documents(you would know them by reading though post here) good luck.

Thank you for finding time to respond.Your advice is taken please.Merci would need all the luck and prayers.

Hi Friends,
New on this great group.I kindly need advice. My wife and I just renewed our B1/B2 visas via drop box and have decided to go for childbirth. We have all the correspondences with the doctor which we obtained after the visa was issued and will receive a formal acceptance letter from the doctor after he would have received from our Nigerian doctor DW's medical history. We intend to pay our medical bills on receipt of the invoice from the doctor before travelling out.Accommodation is settled. However in view of the repeated counsel on this group that it is preferable to have a medical visa for birthing we are thinking of making a fresh visa application for a medical visa but the interview date may well be after our intended date of travel and DH maybe ineligible to travel due to closeness to EDD. It is said that an interview date may be expedited with genuine reasons? The alternative is to as some of us have done send change of intent letter before trip ,tell the truth at POE with all burden of proof and expect a favourable discretionary entry.
Kindly advise.
Thank you
I hasten to add that DH n DW both work in Nigeria n have sufficient ties to the country with other kids.
