Nairaland / General / Re: Nairalanders E-protest Against Child Marriage: Sign your Petition Here Guys! by OkwyOnyia: 7:33pm On Jul 20, 2013
Signed.

Shame on the SINators and Pedophiles at the National Assembly. Nigeria completely rejects that bill to legalise child marriage.
Politics / Re: Nnaji’s Power Generating Firm Begins Operation In Aba by OkwyOnyia: 3:42pm On Jun 19, 2013
Great news coming from Aba! Point of correction: the power project started in 2007, not 2004. I handled the event of the groundbreaking ceremony in Aba. That was my first major external event as a PR staff of C&F Porter Novelli. To further buttress this, Stanbic IBTC provided the financial offtake for the project. So i was there on the stable of Stanbic IBTC. The groundbreaking ceremony was held by Theodore Orji, Governor of Abia State. This was shortly after his inauguration. I'm not sure Theodore Orji was Abia State Governor in 2004. The reporter needs to cross-check his facts.

Politics / Re: 80 Percent Of Fuel Consumed In Benin Republic Smuggled From Nigeria Says IMF by OkwyOnyia: 11:49pm On Nov 02, 2012
@ TruGunn, you are spot-on with your comment. I have carefully read comments by many forumites on the subject and regrettably found out that most of them reek of crass ignorance of the market dynamics. Of all West African countries especially neighbouring countries, fuel sells cheapest in Nigeria. Yes, the bulk of fuel sold in Benin Republic is smuggled in from Nigeria due to the reason above. The subsidy removal in January had an immediate and profound impact on the economy of Benin Republic as people began to experience similar strain as Nigerians. A notorious fuel black market village between Benin Republic and Togo disappeared overnight due to subsidy removal in Nigeria. Truth is that the whole subsidy thing makes absolutely no sense. I have continued to canvass in my private capacity for the removal of subsidy because it actually hurts the poor but benefits the rich. Fuel subsidy gives N2 to the poor man but rewards the wealthy with N100. Due to inflation, it further snatches the N2 from the poor and leaves him penniless. I was ashamed with the whole protest in January because Nigerians were brazenly campaigning for perpetuation of their impoverishment. At the end of the day, who won? I leave us to ponder over the question.

Romance / Re: Newly Wed - Share Your Experience Here by OkwyOnyia: 7:40pm On Oct 17, 2012
Folks, i have enjoyed reading your marital experiences. I have been married for 3 months and half. Marriage is sweet if you get it right. But then, the word 'right' doesn't exist in isolation. The couples must work hard to make it enjoyable. I have absolutely enjoyed mine. I could not have made a better choice. I can describe my transition from bachelorhood as a switch from disorder to order. My wife has brought so much stability into my life. Although things have been tough since after wedding: paying off some wedding expenses, paying for our brand new car, house rent at al, she nonetheless understands that it can only be for a while. My wife is my pride and joy. A day without her is like an eternity in misery. I doff my hat for her and all women.

Agreed, the mix-up was quite embarrassing but ThisDay has already corrected the error and posted the right photograph of Chris Bale. You may click the link http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/honeywell-to-invest-1bn-on-power-project/122253/
Nairaland / General / Re: Gov Gabriel Suswan Of Benue State Uses 47 Billion Naira To Buy Pigs by OkwyOnyia: 3:26pm On Sep 18, 2009
Nairaland runs the risk of turning into Wikipedia-where people distort facts with impunity. Any casual observer will agree with me that this story isn't true. Granted that some state governors are not ruling with clean slates, but this one is a real joke.

N47 billion, haba! This poster better gets very serious.
