I observed that my odometer is static, my brake light and ABS goes on and off while driving, the MPH is not working ultimately. This happens after driving 10 to 15 minutes.

How do I correct this? One of the electrician I contacted said it has to do ABS module.

1. My 2007 Europe civic radiator fan start rolling immediately the car is started even when the engine has not warmed up. The car is 9ja used bought. Does it mean the thermostat has been removed? I'm planning to refill the radiator with coolant as it's only water in it.

2. I also noticed that anytime I put on the AC, i don't immediately feel it until after some minutes and when car is idle and I put on the AC, I kinda hear some sound coming from the engine by the passenger side like a running or boiling water. If I step outside the car, I don't hear this same sound only while inside.

Nigeria is still importing petroleum products with high sulphur content as the ban imposed on the importation of such fuels by the Federal Government more than four years ago has not been enforced.

Most of the petroleum products consumed in the country are imported with sulphur content as high as 1,000 parts per million for petrol and 3,000ppm for diesel.

On December 1, 2016, in Abuja, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire agreed to ban the importation of Europe’s dirty fuels, limiting sulphur in fuels from 3,000 parts per million to 50 ppm.

But the enforcement of the ban failed to come into effect on July 1, 2017, in Nigeria as announced in December 2016 by the then Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed.

An international resource watchdog group, Stakeholder Democracy Network, said in a recent report that researchers had found fuel imported from Europe being pumped into filling stations in Nigeria were extremely toxic.

They found that such fuel extremely exceeded the European Union pollution limits.

The SDP’s Programme Manager, Florence Kayemba, said, “Our research suggests that Nigeria is having dirty fuel dumped on it that cannot be sold to other countries with higher and better-implemented standards.

“The situation is so bad that the average diesel sampled are of even lower quality than that produced by artisanal refining camps in the creeks of the Niger Delta.”

According to the SDN, 114,000 people are estimated to be dying prematurely from air pollution each year in Nigeria.

The SDN report reinforced the Public Eye investigation and a Dutch government report that European refineries and commodity brokers were blending crude oil with benzene and other carcinogenic chemicals producing fuels hundreds of times over European pollution limits for the weakly regulated African market.

This was said to be causing significant particulate pollution, damage to vehicles and adverse health effects for the people.

A new survey by some university researchers has established a link between poor academics in childhood and air pollution exposure.

The research report of the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health published in the journal of Science Daily claimed that children exposed to elevated levels of air pollution are more likely to have poor inhibitory control during late childhood and poor academic skills in early adolescence, including spelling, reading comprehension and math skills.

According to the report, road transport is a major contributor to greenhouse gases and air pollution in developing countries.


The Director of the Clean Air Project, John Walke, was quoted as saying, “Most air pollution comes from energy use and production… Burning fossil fuels releases gases and chemicals into the air.”

Global Alliance on Health and Pollution, in a report, ranks Nigeria third in the world for pollution-related deaths and sixth in premature deaths caused by air pollution.

The United Nations Environment Programme said in December 2016 that the move to ban dirty fuel imports by Nigeria and others would dramatically reduce vehicle emissions and help more than 250 million people to breathe safer and cleaner air.

Today I will be discussing more about those that are using Mobile XHP oil 20W50.

I will not condemn the oil but be careful what you put in your engine, now a car was brought down with a wierd noise coming from the engine. A Toyota Camry 2007, at first running a scan was not the best cause of action so we drove round and driving back to the workshop I noticed the Engine oil light blinking, which was a red flag.

Getting to the workshop, I removed the oil cover that was on the engine to check the pressure of the oil pump. It was relatively low and couple with the sound. I decided to drain the engine oil and open up the sump.
Removing the sump I saw cake - I mean the engine oil has caked inside the sump blocking the filter and oil pump. I removed the cake and try brushing the rest with a petrol and I decided to replace the filter with a new one.

Further investigation from the owner he said he has been servicing the car with the Mobile XHP since he bought the car and serviced the car every 3 months.

On conclusion I told him anytime he wants to service the car he should at least drive round for an hour plus then they drain the oil when it's still hot so some of the cake will come out. By that some cake will dissolve temporarily due to the hot engine oil.


Note: Always check the cover of the Mobile XHP that it was sealed and the cover is blue and not black

Please which will you recommend for engine oil when changing oil. I have read that 5w-30/20 recommended but my mechanic said there alot of fake ones in the market and he recommended 20w50. This is my first service for camry 2007

A female accountant, Mrs Sola Amusu, has been arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ Court for paying herself arrears of salary and retirement benefit owed her by her company in Lagos State, western Nigeria. The 38-year-old Amusu reportedly paid herself salary arrears owed her by her employer, Alfred George Nigeria Limited located in Lekki area of Lagos. According Amusu, for the past 13 years she worked as the company’s accountant, the management has been deliberately owing the staff salary arrears and entitlements for several months. She claimed that despite making profit, the company preferred to pay the workers a fraction of their salaries and kept the rest. When the management decided to pay a fraction of salaries to their staff and issued Amusu a cheque of N587,700 in her name, the mother of three, sensing that she and her children had no future if she continued to work in the company, cashed the cheque and converted it to her own use. She wrote to the company’s management informing them of her decision to resign and that she had cashed the cheque and used the money to pay her own salary and other entitlements she was being owed. She even requested for the balance. She calculated the amount the company was owing her for the past 13 years she worked there. These, she said, include miscellaneous allowances: N300,000; housing allowance: N150,000; salaries arrears: N180,000; and severance benefit: N780,000. These amounted to about N1.3m. Amusu wrote: “All these are what you are owing me and I will collect from the cashed cheque dated 8 July, 2015, given to me in the sum of N587,700 and I expect my balance.” Angered by her action, the management wrote a petition to the police at Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin and alleged that Amusu made away with the staff salary. She was arrested and taken to the command where she told the police what happened. When the police asked her to return the money, she refused and said it was an opportunity for the company to pay her part of her salary and entitlements. The police charged her to court for alleged theft and she pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adebayo granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. She was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when she will perfect her bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 6 September, 2015.
