5. Italy 1-1 France (2006)

Not considered the most spectacular of World Cup finals in terms of the game itself, but the controversy surrounding Zidane and Materazzi will forever remain in the memory.

Zidane converted a penalty early in the game to put France 1-0 up, but Italy got back onto level terms soon after through Materazzi. These two players would not only score the goals in this final; they would also be involved in the moment that would effectively decide the destination of the trophy.

After being provoked by the Italian defender, who apparently said some very unflattering things about Zidane’s sister, the French talisman preceded to headbutt Materazzi in the chest, sending the towering centre-back to the floor. Zidane was duly sent-off for the offence and Italy would go on to win the game via a penalty shoot-out.

Pictures of Zidane walking past the trophy after being sent-off provide a powerful image showing the sad end to what had been a fantastic career for the French playmaker. Zidane would retire from club and international football directly after the World Cup final.

4. Germany 0-2 Brazil (2002)

Redemption! Brazil lost the previous World Cup final to France 3-0, a game which had been surrounded in controversy following reports of Brazil’s star striker being ill before the game. Brazil were clearly affected by Ronaldo’s condition and put in a subpar performance.

2002 offered Ronaldo and co a chance to put things right, which they duly did. Ronaldo scored both of Brazil’s goals in the second half to wrap up a deserved win and reinstate Brazil as the world’s best national team. Brazil side had the three Rs up-front, Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho, and two legendary wing-backs- Cafu and Roberto Carlos, which made Brazil an unstoppable force in 2002.

Members of the National Assembly might not be able to meet as often as possible.

The Nigerian National Assembly is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. According to the constitution, the National Assembly should have 181 sittings yearly. That gives three sittings per week. In addition to this, any senator who is not on seat for less than one third of the required amount of sittings automatically loses his or her seat.

The Covid-19 lockdown has contributed to the reduction in sittings from thrice per week to once per week but more importantly, insufficient funds is the reason why the sittings have been reduced. This is backed up by the fact that nonpayment of allowance that are due the lawmakers and other entitlement.

This made lawmakers have expressed dissatisfaction with the current financial trend in the National Assembly.


According to The Guardian, this situation is precipitated by the refusal of Zainab Ahmed, the Finance Minister to release the due funds. The Guardian also spoke with a Lawmaker “who spoke in confidence and revealed that the First Line Charge budgetary provision for the National Assembly has not been met for a long time since this administration came in. He also said that informal methods of raising fund from federal agencies to support parliamentary needs are no longer as effective as they were,” he added.

Due to the fact that constituency projects have not been completely implemented, Most of the lawmakers expressed fears of going back to their constituencies.
