Are we living in a HOLOGRAM? Physicists believe our universe could just be a projection of another cosmos Holographic principle claims gravity comes from thin, vibrating strings These strings are holograms of events that take place in a flatter cosmos According to this theory, everything we experience can be described as events that take place in this flatter location This is the first time the validity of the model has been mathematically tested The universe is a hologram and everything you can see - including this article and the device you are reading it on - is a mere projection. This is according to a controversial model proposed in 1997 by theoretical physicist Juan Maldacena. Until now the bizarre theory had never been tested, but recent mathematical models suggest that the mind-boggling principle could be true. A growing black hole The holographic model suggests gravity in the universe comes from thin, vibrating strings. These strings are holograms of events that take place in a simpler, flatter cosmos According to the theory, gravity in the universe comes from thin, vibrating strings. These strings are holograms of events that take place in a simpler, flatter cosmos. THE HOLOGRAPHIC PRINCIPLE The holographic principle claims gravity in the universe comes from thin, vibrating strings. These strings are holograms of events that take place in a simpler, flatter cosmos. The principle suggests that, like the security chip on your credit card, there is a two-dimensional surface that contains all the information needed to describe a three-dimensional object - which in this case is our universe. In essence, the theory claims that data containing a description of a volume of space - such as a human or a comet - could be hidden in a region of this flattened, 'real' version of the universe. In a black hole, for instance, all the objects that ever fall into it would be entirely contained in surface fluctuations, almost like a piece of computer memory on contained in a chip. In a larger sense, the theory suggests that the entire universe can be seen as a 'two-dimensional structure projected onto a cosmological horizon' - or in simpler terms, a projection. If we could understand the laws that govern physics on that distant surface, the principle suggests we would grasp all there is to know about reality. The holographic principle suggests that, like the security chip on your credit card, there is a two-dimensional surface that contains all the information needed to describe a three-dimensional object - which in this case is our universe. In essence, the principle claims that data containing a description of a volume of space - such as a human or a comet - could be hidden in a region of this flattened, 'real' version of the universe. In a black hole, for instance, all the objects that ever fall into it would be entirely contained in surface fluctuations. This means that the objects would be stored almost as 'memory' or fragment of data rather than a physical object in existence. In a larger sense, the theory suggests that the entire universe can be seen as a 'two-dimensional structure projected onto a cosmological horizon' - or in simpler terms, the universe we believe we inhabit is a 3D projection of a 2D alternate universe. In a paper posted on the arXiv repository, Yoshifumi Hyakutake of Ibaraki University in Japan calculated the internal energy of a black hole in an attempt provide mathematical evidence for this holographic principle. In addition to this he explored the boundaries of a specific black hole as well as the effects of ‘virtual particles’, a type of particle that is believed to continuously pop in and out of existence. In a separate paper, Professor Hyakutake calculated the energy contained inside of the alternate flatter cosmos with no gravity. Surprisingly, the computer calculations of the theoretical universe and the black hole's boundaries matched, providing what some say is ‘compelling’ evidence of the dual nature of the universe. Professor Maldacena has said that the numerical proof that these two seemingly disparate worlds are identical provides hope that the gravitational properties of our universe can someday be explained by quantum theory. mxxpunkxx!: If you cannot get another Mac to use to create a bootable USB, you can do it from a Windows laptop. Below is a link to the apple forums where one user explained how he did it: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23633254#23633254 |

mxxpunkxx!: You best bet would be to create a bootable USB drive install Mavericks on to it, and boot your system up from there. Is it possible for you to get another Mac that you can use to create the bootable usb? |

armirza: I bought a new Mac just a few days ago (I know i'm pretty late) but I felt completely lost as soon as I saw it. Thanks to this post and all the replies here, I am now feeling confident while using it Good to know!! |

So has anyone bought the Xbox one? What are your first impressions? What are your gripes and issues? What are you really loving about it? The voice commands require a bit of a learning curve, but once mastered are truly amazing! My main gripe is the lack of content, but I'm still more than happy with the Xbox One. Very few of my friends have migrated so please feel free to add me. My gamertag is emeka 74 (space after emeka!) |

Dikachiii: Please I need help,y Macbook 2008 won't turn on if I plug charger the green light comes on on magsafe but if I press power it won't turn on or make any sound. I've reset smc yet not show. When I test battery the 5 leds show green and blink 3 times. Pls help. Your 5 led links blinking 3 times is not normal and may indicate a battery or power issue. Have you tried removing the battery and connecting your Macbook directly to a power source? Did you recently modify the Macbook with new memory, solid state drive, or hard drive? |

Apple OS X Mavericks Goes Gold: 11 Major Features : OS X Mavericks follows the release of iOS 7, Apple's mobile operating system, last month -- timing that works well given the growing areas of overlap between the two operating systems. iOS 7 added AirDrop, a file-sharing mechanism introduced in OS X Lion, and OS X Mavericks adds Maps and iBooks from the iOS world. That's in addition to crossovers facilitated by iCloud with apps such as Notes and Reminders and common services like iTunes Radio. There has long been speculation about whether OS X and iOS will converge. That could still happen at some point if Apple sees some advantage in doing so. For the moment, however, the two operating systems are merely cohabitating peacefully......... http://www.informationweek.com/hardware/apple-macintosh/apple-os-x-mavericks-goes-gold-11-major/240162287 |

amor4ce: there have been rumours that OS X Maverick might be incompatible with my early 2008 macbook, chai! First find out your Mac’s model: It’s easy to find which Mac you’re running; simply click on the Apple logo on the top left hand corner of the display and then click on ‘About This Mac’. From here, you can find out which Mac model you have. You have to be connected to the internet for the model to show up, otherwise you won’t see anything under your Mac’s name. List of supported Macs: iMac (from mid-2007 to the latest model) MacBook (late 2008, 13-inch Aluminum and early 2009 or later) MacBook Pro (mid-2009 or later, 13-inch model; mid/later 2007 model or later, 15-inch model; late 2007 or later, 17-inch model) MacBook Air (late 2008 or later models) Mac mini (early 2009 models and later) Xserve (2008 and later models) Mac Pro (Early 2008 models) http://www.redmondpie.com/will-my-mac-run-os-x-mavericks-check-compatibility-now/ |

amor4ce: Olisa74, I've returned (kindly refer to the 1st page). From what you have described, your Mac cannot access the OS to boot from, and keeps recycling the process in further attempts to boot. The guy at computer village is right, it seems like your hard drive has died. Once you replace your hard drive and re install the OS, your Mac should work just fine. |

malign: It seems like your Macbook pro just went into what is known as "coma mode". It goes into this mode for various reasons, but it does so generally to protect the system. To wake it up, you need to depress the power switch (keep holding it down) and press the Option+Control+Shift keys. Keep these keys held for a while counting to 5 and then release. You Mac should then come out of its coma and be ready to go. The really annoying thing about your situation is that it seems like the guy that tore it down has probably done something wrong in putting it back together again. Please avoid taking your Macbook pro apart, except in extreme cases. 1 Like |

Fireman Jr: Can someone please give me a detailed guide on how best to run windows 8 and mac osx at the same time on a macbookpro? Or a link to a guide online. Use parallels desktop for Mac http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/ The above link will explain how to use it, you can use the video tutorials |

filibust: It does sound like your HD has crashed. Replacing your HD is very simple and straight forward. Search online for some tutorials as it is something you can do yourself. Most PC HD's are compatible with Macs. So you can go to pretty much any computer store and get a replacement HD. |

Yvete: @ Olisa74: You've been helpful. How do i run windows on Mac? I need to install Microsoft project on my Macbook Pro. From my research, I learned that I need VMWare Fusion or bootcamp. I installed VMWare Fusion, but I still can't install MS Project '10. Any way out? Thanks. After installing VMWare Fusion on your Macbook pro, you then need to get a copy of windows and install it using VMWare Fusion. Then you will have windows running on your Mac and can then install your MS Project. You can also use Parallels as @benalvino mentioned. The installation process is the same. It sounds a bit tedious, but it is pretty much straightforward! |

benalvino: With the £1300 you paid someone on ebay you could have easily walked into an Apple store, or even a shop like CEX that sells second hand Apple products with a full one years warranty incase something goes wrong.Fair enough, you bought a product on ebay that turned out to be faulty. That is not Apples fault. Anyone that has bought any faulty Macs, that is less than a year old, is entitled to a replacement product or full repair free of charge, even in Nigeria. Just contact any Apple retailer, or contact Apple directly, they will have your products serial number. |
![]() |
benalvino: You and I both know that it doesn't work like that in the UK. Every Mac comes with a standard one year manufacturers warranty. If your Mac went belly up within your first year of use, then you are entitled to a a brand new replacement, or a full repair, and maybe even some sort of compensation for your troubles if you push hard enough. |
![]() |
benalvino: So what exactly happened to it? After spending £1300 on a retina mac that just went bad, surely apple replaced it for you or at least fixed it, did they not? |
![]() |
benalvino: When you say your Mac just died, what exactly do you mean by that? Macs or pc's do not just die for no apparent reason. Did it die because of mis use? Did you drop it? When you bought it was it faulty? What is it second hand? I think you should elaborate so we don't put people off getting a Mac. |
