Romance / 11 Things You Wish You Knew Before Your First Relationship by Olola15(m): 6:23pm On Jul 31, 2014
If only we could be young again! Young and in love but with the knowledge we have now. Oh, to have that perspective! My first real relationship was quite a doozy, with a lot of mistakes made, so I am going to address this article to my younger self before I started dating girls. If you have not yet entered your first relationship, please read this to better prepare yourself for what is to come.

1. Only you can define yourself.

You are not defined by your boyfriend or girlfriend. A person needs to be confident of him or herself before entering any kind of serious relationship. You need to be happy with the person you are and the choices you make when you are alone. Do not depend on another person to make you feel good.

2. Never neglect your friends or family for the sake of a dating relationship.

A great way to ruin amazing friendships is to ditch your friends for a boy or girl. Believe you me! Your family and friends were there first. Don’t think you can ignore them and they will still be waiting around for you if your relationship fails. Make time for your other relationships as it’s good to have a wide network as opposed to only one person in your life.

3. You do not always live happily ever after.

Sadly, high school relationships statistically only last long term 2% of the time. This is hard to understand when you are young and your hormones are making you dizzy and sick with love. No one and nothing else could ever get in the way of your love! Ever! No matter how wonderful a relationship might seem, if you are too young to know what you want, it might not last.

4. Guard your heart, but not too much.

Since your first relationship might not last, it is best to guard yourself, at least a little. At the same time, you need to be able to open up in order to have a romantic relationship. Try your best to find this balance.

5. You might get hurt.

This is part of life and almost to be expected. When you open yourself up to another person, vulnerability occurs. This creates a close connection between two people, but it can also leave you open for a world of hurt. It is up to you how much of your heart you will risk for the relationship.

6. You deserve respect—from yourself and from your partner.

Determine boundaries beforehand. Decide for yourself what is acceptable in the way you are treated, both verbally and physically. Then tell your partner and stick to those boundaries. It is an awful thing to find out along the way that you have given up too much.

7. Your love cannot be the center of the universe.

Life is still happening around you. There are still decisions to be made, responsibilities such as homework, chores and/or a job. Do not forgo everything else in your life just to spend time with your boyfriend or girlfriend.

8. No one belongs to you, nor you to anyone else.

Being in a relationship does not mean you lose all sense of self. Have your own interests and friends. At the same time, realize your boyfriend or girlfriend needs to have his or her own hobbies and social groups as well. You should be able to spend time together, just not all of your waking moments.

9. You can never force someone to change.

This is one of the hardest lessons to learn (mainly for women—we seem to want to change our men). A person may act as though he or she is changing to make you happy, but it might not last long if the person doesn’t truly want to change.

10. It’s not like the movies.

Oh, Hollywood, how you trick the youth of the world with your gold-spun stories of love and romance! We are fooled into believing that finding romantic love is the greatest thing in life. Problems are supposed to melt away, there is no fighting and you drive off into the sunset, a complete person with your mate. Romance can be great, but keeping a relationship thriving is work. Be prepared to work if you truly want it to last.

11. Use this experience as a learning tool.

Sure, you might stay together and grow old with your first love, but if not, use your first relationship as a learning tool. What went wrong? What went right? How could you have communicated better? These are all things we learn from early relationships that help us in cultivating a better one down the road.

Don’t be frightened by this list. Love can truly be amazing. The thing is, you might not know how to deal with or even know about the negative possibilities when entering a first relationship. Learn from these things and be better prepared when you take that first step.

For those of you who are experienced in the relationship realm, any advice for the newbies?
Romance / Wife Swapping, Your Take??? Do You See This Working In Nigeria??? by Olola15(m): 5:49pm On Jul 30, 2014
Wife swapping among Namibia’s nomadic tribes has been practised for generations but a legislator’s call to enshrine it in law has stirred debate about women’s rights and tradition in modern society.

The practice is more of a gentlemen’s agreement where friends can have sex with each others’ wives with no strings attached. Swinging with an African tribal touch? Or “rape”, as some critics see it.

The wives have little say in the matter, according to those who denounce the custom as both abusive and risky in a country with one of the world’s highest HIV/Aids rates.

But the Ovahimba and Ovazemba tribes, based mainly in this southern African country’s arid north, contend their age-old custom strengthens friendships and prevents promiscuity.

Source: afkinsider.com
“It’s a culture that gives us unity and friendship,” said Mr Kazeongere Tjeundo, a lawmaker and deputy president of the opposition Democratic Turnhalle Alliance of Namibia.

“It’s up to you to choose [among] your mates who you like the most … to allow him to sleep with your wife,” said Mr Tjeundo, a member of the Ovahimba ethnic group.

Concerned that HIV/Aids could be used as an excuse to stop the ancient tradition, he and others are suggesting regulations be adopted to ensure “good practice”.

Mr Tjeundo said he plans to propose a wife-swapping law, following a November legislative poll when he is tipped for re-election.

Known as okujepisa omukazendu - which loosely means “offering a wife to a guest” – the practice is little known outside these reclusive communities, whose population is estimated at 86 000.

Mainly found in the north-western Kunene region near the Angolan border, the communities are largely isolated from the rest of the country. They have resisted the trappings of modern life, keep livestock, live off the land and practice ancestral worship.

Health / 10 Diseases You Didn’t Know Are Treated With Marijuana by Olola15(m): 6:06pm On Jul 29, 2014
Medical marijuana is proving effective for at least managing horrific diseases such cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s. Twenty U.S. states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana use for doctors to write prescriptions. Not all states honor all conditions. This is just a sampling of the diseases permitted. There are many more. Here are 10 diseases you didn’t know are treated with marijuana:

1. Alzheimer’s Disease
As baby boomers continue to age, the number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s is set to triple in the next 50 years, the World Health Organization reports, making prevention of this unpreventable brain disorder an important priority. Cannabis is the only remedy so far that has shown any promise in early research studies in preventing the disease. In a 2006 study published in Molecular Pharmaceutics, University of Connecticut researchers reported that THC — the active ingredient in cannabis — could be “considerably better at suppressing the abnormal clumping of malformed proteins that is a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease than any currently approved prescription.” The scientists went so far as to say that cannabinoid-based medications “will be the new breakout medicine treatments of the near future.” Further evidence this theory is real? Ironically it is the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which owns the patent for cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectives.

2. Cancer
The U.S. federal government doesn’t exactly promote this link on the National Cancer Website stating there is real evidence that THC has an anti-tumor effect. Government websites aside, many people have reported using a daily oral dose of concentrated THC cannabis oil to cure cancers from the skin to the lung. This treatment has also been tested in dogs (although canines require much lower doses, and giving too much can have serious adverse affects). Cannabis is approved in all 20 medical marijuana states and Washington, D.C. for the treatment of cancer pain, to help increase appetite and decrease nausea following chemotherapy. -

3. Asthma/Breathing Disorders
Smoking pot can help with breathing issues? That just seems contradictory, but according to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine, THC’s anti-inflammatory properties actually help dilate respiratory passages. This is the opposite of what tobacco smoke does — it constricts, rather than expands, the bronchial passageways. Plus asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease and cannabis is a proven anti-inflammatory, so it does kind of make sense. Moderation is key, however. Take one or two puffs, don’t sit there and smoke all day. There is yet to be a single case of lung cancer tied to cannabis use.

4. Multiple Sclerosis/Muscle Spasms
This one is less controversial, and has been on the medical marijuana conditions list in many states since the laws were first passed. Even the National MS Society is giving it a tentative thumbs up on its website. Studies have shown that THC can help control spasticity in patients with MS, and that this works best by taking a controlled amount orally.

5. Crohn’s/Gastrointestinal Disorders

Again cannabinoids’ ability to act as a powerful anti-inflammatory make them a seemingly obvious solution for chronic conditions involving inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract and bowels. So much so that the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America released this statement to the medical marijuana website ProCon.org: “Several small studies have shown that a significant proportion of patients with IBD report smoking marijuana to relieve IBD-related symptoms, particularly those patients with a history of abdominal surgery, chronic abdominal pain, and/or a low quality of life index. However, the medicinal use of marijuana is limited by potential side effects, the risk of smoking, and the lack of direct scientific evidence of clinical effectiveness for intestinal inflammation.” -

6. Cachexia
It’s true what they say about the munchies… marijuana stimulates the part of your brain that controls appetite, and certain strains in particular are known for making you want to eat everything in sight. As a result, for those who really need to gain weight, this can be a blessing rather than an adverse side affect. Cachexia is the loss of weight and weakness that can occur in cancer and AIDS patients as well as people with chronic diseases such as anorexia. California, which was the first state to legalize the use of medical marijuana back in 1996, specifically lists anorexia as an approved condition.

7. Epilepsy/Seizures
In Colorado they are known as medical refugees — families that are moving there in droves from across the country to seek effective treatment for their kids’ uncontrollable seizures. Unlike cancer, seizures do not need a high THC content (that’s what gets you high) to be curtailed. Instead they respond well to one of the other cannabinoids — a chemical compound known as cannabidiol, or CBD. CBD is not psychoactive and therefore provides the perfect natural solution for children suffering from epileptic disorders. What is more difficult than stopping seizures, however, is accessing a marijuana strain that has been bred to decrease THC levels and increase CBD content. The best-known variety is Charlotte’s Webb, named after Charlotte Figi , the first child it helped treat. Currently this type of cannabis strain is only available with regularity in Colorado. -

8. Tourette’s Syndrome
Although it hasn’t been studied as much as other disorders — nor is it approved for use in all states — there have been several important clinical trials investigating the use of cannabinoids as a valid treatment for a reduction of involuntary vocal tics associated with the neuropsychiatric disorder known as Tourette’s Syndrome. The most recent study was published in the 2003 Expert Opinions in Pharmacotherapy, reviewing data published in the original American Journal of Psychiatry in 1999. It confirmed that smoking pot decreased the study subject’s total tic severity score from 41 to seven within two hours and that this improvement lasted for up to seven hours.

9. PTSD and other psychological conditions
Medical marijuana has also proven to effective in treating neuropsychological issues beyond Tourette’s Syndrome. It has been studied in the treatment of depression, anxiety and particularly Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. New Mexico, for instance, allows doctors to prescribe it for PTSD specifically. In other states, however, psychological conditions do not qualify for prescriptions despite studies proving effectiveness.

10. Hepatitis C
The Hepatitis C virus causes inflammation of the liver and affects around 4 million Americans each year. Because the virus causes inflammation, it is believed that cannabis therapy can be effective in relieving symptoms. It is also believed to work in conjunction with traditional drug therapy for improved effectiveness, according to a study published in the European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in Oct. 2006.

Travel / 7 Reasons Why It's Good To Speak Another Language by Olola15(m): 3:00pm On Jul 29, 2014
It's one of life's truths: Being bilingual or multilingual can only be considered a good thing. The ability to travel seamlessly in another country; to interact with people you wouldn't otherwise be able to communicate with; to really understand and immerse yourself in another culture, whether it be your own or another's; and on the most trivial level, to order off a menu and truly know what you're ordering.

But aside from all these reasons, there is a multitude of research showing how speaking more than one language is also good for your health -- particularly, the health of your brain. Here's where the bilingual among us have an advantage:

They have better "cognitive flexibility."
Older adults who have spoken two languages since childhood seem to have better cognitive flexibility -- meaning, they are better able to go with the flow in the face of a new or unexpected circumstance -- than adults who only speak one language, according to a Journal of Neuroscience study. The study involved having participants complete a cognitive flexibility task; while monolingual and bilingual adults were both able to complete the task, the bilingual adults did it more quickly and certain parts of their brains used less energy to do so.

Their brains stay sharper in old age.
And this is true even for people who learned a second language later in life, according to a recent study in the Annals of Neurology. The study involved following native English speakers who took an intelligence test when they were age 11, and then again when they were in their early 70s. People who spoke two or more languages had greater cognitive abilities -- particularly in general intelligence and reading -- from their baseline, compared with those who only spoke one language.

They look at certain words in a different way than their monolingual counterparts.
People who speak two languages may process certain words faster, particularly if the word has the same meaning in both languages, according to a Psychological Science study. Using eye-movement technology, researchers found that bilingual people spend less time looking at "cognate words" -- words that have the same meaning in two languages, such as the word "sport" for both English and Dutch -- which suggests their brains need less time to process the word, Scientific American reported.

While not immune to Alzheimer's, they may experience a delay in developing the condition.
Alzheimer’s can strike anyone, but people who are bilingual may develop the condition four to five years later than people who only speak one language, according to findings presented at a 2011 meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The study included 450 Alzheimer’s patients, half of whom had been bilingual for most of their lives.

As kids, they have a leg up on problem-solving skills.
Bilingual kids seem to do better on tasks examining problem-solving skills and creativity, according to a study in the International Journal of Bilingualism. The study included 121 children, about half of whom were bilingual, who were asked to complete tasks involving repeating number series, solving math problems mentally, and reproducing color block patterns, HealthDay reported.

Their brains are better switchers.
Bilingual kids may be speedier at switching between tasks, according to a Child Development study. The study involved having bilingual and monolingual children look at images of animals or depictions of colors on a computer screen. When the children were asked to press a button to switch between images of animals to images of colors, the bilingual children did this faster than the monolingual children.

They can use their ability to think in another language to make better decisions.
When people think in another language, they are more likely to make rational decisions in a problem scenario, a 2012 Psychological Study showed. Because people are naturally averse to loss, they tend to make decisions that minimize loss, even if the odds are in their favor. But University of Chicago researchers found that when people think in a foreign language, it provides distancing -- which could help them make more deliberate, less emotion-based decisions. "Perhaps the most important mechanism for the effect is that a foreign language has less emotional resonance than a native tongue,” study researcher Sayuri Hayakawa said in a statement. “An emotional reaction could lead to decisions that are motivated more by fear than by hope, even when the odds are highly favorable.”

Personal bank or building society statements covering a consecutive 28 day
period ending no more than 31 days before the date of your application. Your personal
bank or building society statements must show:
• your name or your parents(s)/legal guardians name; and
• the account number; and
• the date of the statement; and
• the financial institution’s name and logo; and

Tetegh: Hi Peeps, lets still exercise some patience FBN will call soonest. Come to think of it, could it be that they are working on modalities to post some peeps outside the country to work in their newly acquired banks? - just like Xtianburg pointed about the Newly acquired banks outside Nigeria. I remember I was invited for an aptitude test by a 'New Multinational Company' which turned out to be the FBN we are all waiting for... My tot sha, all the same lets keep praying and hoping and praying

Exactly what Mai thots Av been since Xtanburg posted that bit. There must be a lot of restructuring going down in the newly acquired banks that mite involve human resources.

Anywz, we are waiting, watching and praying.
