Buhari Can Only Be Removed By God, Buhari Himself, Or At The Expiration Of His Tenure And Not By The National Assembly.

It is no longer a news that the President of the FRN is being threatened with an impeachment procedure on the ground of grave insecurity that is rampaging the country.

The National Assembly had given him an ultimatum of SIX weeks to address the insecurity or face an Impeachment a week or so.

And today, reading through the Punch Newspaper, some of the lawmakers were still stuck by their guns, saying, Buhari would be impeached if at the expiration of the ultimatum given to him he failed to proffer solutions to the insecurity challenges.

How pragmatic is this threat by the National Assembly?

Nigerians have got only three options available for the removal of Buhari.

One is by God, through death or illness. I don't wish Buhari anyone of these. But if God decides to do a thing, who will stop Him?

Second is by Buhari's voluntary resignation. Is this not too big a thing for African leaders to do?

Third and the most viable means is after the expiration of his tenure as President of the FRN. Constitutionally, Buhari or anyone has been banned from occupying the seat of the Nigerian President after two terms which is a total of eight years in office.

These are the practical ways (I don't mean the only Constitutional ways) that the President can be removed.

One of the constitutional ways the President of the FRN can be removed is through Impeachment by the National Assembly. I don't despise or dismiss this. But how practicable is this?

With the reality of things, this is not practicable. This is due to the following reasons.

One, the absence of the true concept of SEPARATION of POWER which has now made the Executive more powerful at the detriment of the other two arms of government.

Two, the overwhelming number of the lawmakers under the umbrella of the APC is another incumbrance as such lawmakers are loyal first to their party BEFORE any national course.

Hence, Buhari's removal is not in the hands of our National Assembly. And as such, their ranting is nothing other than the barkingof toothless dog.
