Health / What Is The Sickle Cell Disease And How To Care For Yourself by oma1da: 4:58pm On Nov 22, 2018 |
What is Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)? Sickle Cell Disease is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders. SCD is a genetic condition that is present at birth. It is inherited when a child receives two sickle cell genes - one from each parent. SCD is diagnosed with a simple blood test at the lab during routine newborn screening tests at the hospital. Also, it can be diagnosed before birth. This is because children with SCD are at an increased risk of infection and other health problems. This is why early diagnosis is very important. Signs and Symptoms - Swelling of the hands and feet - Symptoms of anaemia - fatigue or extreme tiredness - Jaundice - Infections - Delayed growth What is the "Cure and Treatment" Option SCD is a disease that worsens over time. There are available treatments that can prevent complications and lengthen the lives of those with this condition. The treatment is different per person depending on the symptoms and severity. There are two drugs that have shown some promising result - L-Glutamine Oral Powder (Endari) and Hydroxyurea. The former help prevent these crises from occurring and thus prevent hospitalisation while the latter prevents abnormal red blood cells from forming. However, you must consult with your doctor for a better plan to handle the crisis. For SCD cure, there is the option of bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Health / The Most Important Diet And Lifestyle For Prostate Cancer by oma1da: 5:54pm On Nov 12, 2018 |
What Is The Prostate Cancer? Cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of control. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer cells and can spread to other areas of the body. According to cancer.org, "Prostate cancer begins when cells in the prostate gland start to grow uncontrollably. The prostate is a gland found only in males. It makes some of the fluid that is part of semen". The prostate is below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The size of the prostate changes with age. In younger men, it is about the size of a walnut, but it can be much larger in older men. A diet that helps maintain a healthy weight may reduce your risk for prostate cancer. The American Cancer Society recommends: Limiting high-fat foods Cutting back on red meats, especially processed meats such as hot dogs, bologna, and certain lunch meats Eating at least 2-1/2 cups of fruits and vegetables each day

Health / How To Sleep For Success? And Why 8 Hours And More? by oma1da: 11:33am On Nov 06, 2018 |
Neuroscientists have confirmed that getting enough sleep is vital to your productivity, health, effectiveness as a leader, and long-term brain function. Healthy sleep habits can make a big difference in the quality of your life. Having healthy sleep habits is often referred to as having good sleep hygiene. Twenge’s research reveals that, among adolescents, device use and time spent on social media are both associated with poor sleep. Compared to adults, young people are more likely to go to bed with their phones and more likely to experience insufficient sleep. You might want to try to keep the following sleep practices on a consistent basis: Stick to a sleep schedule of the same bedtime and wake up time, even on the weekends. This helps to regulate your body's clock and could help you fall asleep and stay asleep for the night. Practice a relaxing bedtime ritual. A relaxing, routine activity right before bedtime conducted away from bright lights helps separate your sleep time from activities that can cause excitement, stress or anxiety which can make it more difficult to fall asleep, get sound and deep sleep or remain asleep. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid naps, especially in the afternoon. Power napping may help you get through the day, but if you find that you can't fall asleep at bedtime, eliminating even short catnaps may help. Exercise daily. Vigorous exercise is best, but even light exercise is better than no activity. Exercise at any time of day, but not at the expense of your sleep. Evaluate your room. Design your sleep environment to establish the conditions you need for sleep. Your bedroom should be cool – between 60 and 67 degrees. Your bedroom should also be free from any noise that can disturb your sleep. Finally, your bedroom should be free from any light. Check your room for noises or other distractions. This includes a bed partner's sleep disruptions such as snoring. Consider using blackout curtains, eye shades, ear plugs, "white noise" machines, humidifiers, fans and other devices. Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows. Make sure your mattress is comfortable and supportive. The one you have been using for years may have exceeded its life expectancy – about 9 or 10 years for most good quality mattresses. Have comfortable pillows and make the room attractive and inviting for sleep but also free of allergens that might affect you and objects that might cause you to slip or fall if you have to get up during the night. Health / How Sleep Deprivation Can Affect Your Mental Health by oma1da: 4:59pm On Nov 05, 2018 |
Sleep and mental health are closely connected. Sleep deprivation affects your psychological state and mental health. And those with mental health problems are more likely to have insomnia or other sleep disorders. Every 90 minutes, a normal sleeper cycle between two major categories of sleep — although the length of time spent in one or the other changes as sleep progresses. During "quiet" sleep, a person progresses through four stages of increasingly deep sleep. Body temperature drops, muscles relax, and heart rate and breathing slow. The deepest stage of quiet sleep produces physiological changes that help boost immune system functioning. 7 Effects of Sleep Deprivation - Lower stress threshold. - Impaired memory. - Trouble concentrating. - Decreased optimism and sociability. - Impaired creativity and innovation. - Increased resting blood pressure. - Increased food consumption and appetite. - Increased risk of cardiac morbidity. How To Write An Effective Resume If You Are A Software Engineer Essential Resume Tips Don't include personal information about your age, religion, health or marital status. Photos are generally not preferred for resumes. Typically you will not be expected to share past salary information on a resume. Line up references, but don't include them on your resume unless asked. Employers assume that "references will be available upon request," so you don't need to say so. Employers may use keyword scanning on resumes, so know what words are relevant to the industry and position and ensure they appear in your resume. http://thegoodandlastingsuccess..com/2018/11/how-to-write-effective-resume-if-you.html

Health / For Females: Here Are 10 Ways You Can Care For Your Breasts (health Education) by oma1da: 10:27am On Nov 01, 2018 |
10 Ways To Care For Your Breasts The breast is the tissue overlying the chest (pectoral) muscles. Anatomically, breasts are two well structured and shaped mounds of fat that start to grow on the chest of girls when they hit puberty. Women’s breasts (also called boobs) are made of specialized tissue that produces milk (glandular tissue) as well as fatty tissue. The amount of fat determines the size of the breast. The milk-producing part of the breast is organized into 15 to 20 sections, called lobes. Within each lobe are smaller structures, called lobules, where milk is produced. Caring for your breasts The biological objective for women to have breasts is to eventually produce milk to wean her baby. Breast growth can be noticed in some girls as early as age 7 or 8, while in others, it does not start until their late teens or even early 20’s. Now, that we’ve gotten “what is breast or boobs?” out of the way, let’s talk about taking care of it. Your boobs are not one of those organs you want to play with, it is your responsibility to care for it. MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIET & EXERCISE As with the rest of your body, your breasts require balanced nourishment and regular exercise to keep them happy. A well-balanced diet containing proteins, healthy fats and nutrient-dense foods, such as nuts, eggs, milk and vegetables is one way of helping them along. Increased physical activity reduces the overall risk of breast cancer by 10-30%, so moderate exercise will help protect your breasts. Diet and exercise will vary for every person, depending on time, needs and your body, so go easy on yourself and set small and manageable targets that work for you. BREASTFEED YOUR BABIES FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN Not only is breastfeeding good for your baby, but it’s also good for you as well. One study estimates that you reduce your risk 4.1 per cent for every 12 months of breastfeeding. So the longer that you breastfeed, the better it is for your breast health (and your baby!!). It is assumed that the lower levels of estrogen in the body during lactation is responsible for the reduction in risk. The hormone estrogen fuels 80% of all breast cancers. MOVE YOUR BODY Research suggests that increased physical activity, even when begun later in life, reduces overall breast-cancer risk by about 10 percent to 30 percent. All it takes is moderate exercise like a 30-minute walk five days a week to get this protective effect TO BRA OR NOT TO BRA There is of course absolutely no right or wrong when it comes to whether or not you should wear a bra. It all depends on your body and its needs. If you do wear one, however, it is a good idea to get the right fit to avoid back or shoulder pain. One way of finding out your bra size is to get measured, and many shops and lingerie specialists will provide this service for free. All in all, if you wear a bra, it’s better to have a couple that fit really well and keep your boobs happy than lots of bras that get away with slyly chilling under your tops without chipping in on the overall wellbeing of your breasts. PRACTISE BREAST SELF-EXAMS While women are most commonly affected by breast cancer, it also affects men. A good piece of advice is to find out if you have a higher risk of breast cancer and to tell your doctor if anyone in your family has had breast or ovarian cancer. http://nollywoodfilmhub.com/10-ways-to-care-for-your-breasts/
