Theophinio: A tourist visa extension by a maximum of the duration of initial visa (30 days) while in the republic is permitted by the law. However, there is no guarantee that an application for tourist visa extension (via VFS) would be approved, unless extenuating circumstances are demonstrated. So, unless it's for medical or skilled professional reasons, a 30-day extension isn't worth the hassle. Relocate via legal means or stay wherever you are a legal resident, and make a meaningful living there. That plan is simply a path to a harsh reality and an eventually rude awakening. 3 Likes |

benjijosh: Hardest?! It gets easier however. That's usually the case, that direct flights are costlier than 1/2 connection flights. See attached. I'm sure there're cheaper ones, depending on selected dates 1 Like

benjijosh: An unpaid flight booking directly from an airline or online travel agency (travelwings/travelstart..) would do. Visa applicants are usually advised to not purchase flight tickets until their visas have been approved. The itinerary is just meant to show the consular officer the dates and the ports you plan to enter and exit the country through, amongst other things. P.S. Take the time to find better deals. There are return tickets for direct flights that don't even cost close to that. 1 Like |

Oladunni12: That depends on how faraway your destination is from Jo'burg. If it's inter-city or long-distance, you can prepurchase bus/train tickets on computicket |

Emmamay10: It's the airlines' season currently, so air tickets are quite expensive. You'll get a LOS-DUR return ticket for a mill |

For change of conditions, foreign PCC(s) should cover any country/countries the applicant has resided in, for more than 12 months, within the latest 5 years preceeding the application date. Only straight renewal applications do not require foreign PCCs. SA PCC would be paid for at the point of application in both cases. Thus, applicant needs to provide foreign PCC(s) in respect of the 3 years preceeding the 2 years they have spent within the country. lymelyte: |

wunmi590: Visas are only renewable while still valid (before expiration). Once a visa expires, a re-application or new application needs to be lodged for the same/different category. Thus, the subject and their dependents would need to apply for new visas together or separately, depending on the category(ies). |

allentee1: Means you are allowed to stay for a total of 30 days. You can exit and re-enter as many times as you want until the 30-day allowance is used up or until the 90th day after the issue date (provided you've stayed for less than 30 days in total) |

madejibo: I'd like to know, if you don't mind sharing via private message. The copy attached to the permanent residence permit served its purpose - "verification for ID purpose". Applicants have been strictly requested at the citizenship/naturalization desk to provide proof of permanent residence obtained after becoming eligible for naturalization |
![]() |
madejibo: Welcome back to the thread! Quick heads up: Apparently, an applicant for naturalization is required to not have been away from the republic for more than 90 days in each of the 5 years preceding application date. In addition, proof of permanent residence is part of the required docs for applying for naturalization. DHA only accept naturalization applications when a proof of permanent residence has been attached to the application. Processing times for proof of permanent residence via VFS has been reported as 12+ months. Unfortunately, applications for proof of permanent residence are currently not being accepted at VFS, as DHA has indefinitely suspended all new permanent residence related applications since March 2020. Kindly check resources to confirm any further requirements to consider in your plans. Regards. |

fernandez8: Visa applications for all countries are only allowed in any country in which you're legally resident (temporary residence). Exception where you are allowed to apply as a tourist or visitor is the instance where the destination country has no chancery in your country of residence, and directs you to submit your application at the nearest chancery to your country of residence. 1 Like |

j3log: That's quite unfortunate. It's true that the ban expiry has to be effected on the system before disembarking. I'd suggest that you keep reaching out to Hilda to assist. |
![]() |
j3log: Assuming the ban is due to overstaying.. You will need to apply for the ban to be overturned by email (overstayappeals@dha.gov.za) You can also reach out to the head of the overstay appeals section via hilda.dlamini@dha.gov.za You will definitely need to explain the valid reason(s) for it to be overturned, and be patient as rescinding a ban could take a while. |
