So who exactly are the leaders? The Anenihs, Alis, Nzeribes? Is that your idea of good leaders? Me I don tire!! |
Politics / Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by omon(m): 12:17am On May 06, 2006 |
I think all you Nigerians are as confused as the politicians. How can you complain that good people are not coming out, but be the first to run down an intellectual. Do you realise the kind of respect Nigeria will earn when someone like Utomi comes to power. Nigeria does not need a politician at this momenty of our history, we need a leader. Are you not tired of the kind of politics Anenih and OBJ are playing? |
TV/Movies / Re: Anybody Interested In Bringing Sanity And Class To Nollywood Movies by omon(m): 10:44pm On Apr 18, 2006 |
You guys confuse me, why complain about the amount of money we should invest in films when you say all the films produced in Nigeria are quack? If a film is as good as Totsie, won't it generate money within and outside Naija? |

Politics / Re: The Western Media's Portrayal Of Africa by omon(m): 10:07pm On Apr 01, 2006 |
I watched a coverage of the just concluded census on CNN - Inside Africa report today. This programme is anchored by a Nigerian - Femi Oke. To my dismay, the only place shown throughout the report was the slum used by the plywood marketers as you travel on the third mainland bridge. I guess census also took place at Ikoyi or one of those posh places all over Nigeria, but no, we don't get to see those pictures. |

By the time you walk the streets on London and see the 'plastic smile' on the faces of people, then you will understand why Nigerians are the happiest people on earth. There is a place in Russia where it is seen as stupid to smile sometimes. |
Travel / Re: Is Life Really Better Abroad? by omon(m): 10:52am On Apr 01, 2006 |
Those of you who have spent several years abroad and are settled seem not to be bothered about the millions of Nigerians who are severly suffering in the Diaspora. Most Nigerians who just arrived and have spent less than 4 yrs in the UK find it hard to get around. If a better life is working more than 10 hrs a day and still getting peanuts - £5/hr (by British standard), then it is ok. This is what I think, The opportunities are here quite alright, but it is never presented to you on a platter of Gold. You have to work strenously for it just like way back in Lagos. I can also tell you of a fact that some of my professional colleagues in Nigeria earn much more than some of us in the UK. The comfort that comes with living abroad is that basic infastructures are there when needed, but they are things you definitely have to pay for. |
TV/Movies / Re: South African Movie Industry Vs Nollywood by omon(m): 10:40am On Apr 01, 2006 |
I guess you guys understand why the South African films may do better. Their industry has spanned ages, but Nollywood only just started. While most south african films are highly funded to show flicks of suffering blacks and of those dying of AIDS, Nollywood works on thin budgets but not doctored to show only AID, poverty related films. |
Politics / Re: Should The US And Great Britain Pressure Obasanjo Against 3rd Term? by omon(m): 6:41pm On Mar 30, 2006 |
@SIBLI-06, I will take it that you are ignorant of your country's hostility to Nigerians/Africans who want to visit their land. It starts right there in Nigeria - at the Embassy. In all my primary to tertiarry education in Nigeria, I never spent close to £15,000 tution. But we are made to pay up to and sometimes, twice as much to study in your country and after such a huge sum of money for tution, you are told to go home because you are not Bristish. That, to me is very harsh. The ruins the British caused in Benin, Edo state is still there for you to see today. The worst thing is that the artifacts that were STOLEN from Nigeria still generates millions in pounds to the British people till date. The British govt as do other western countries do not see the need to send part of the money generated from stolen art works back to the countries where they originated from. That indeed is sad! Well, back to the topic. The UK and US should repect our sovereignity and stay out of our politics. |

foskybaby: It is a pity that you failed in LASU and decided to 'settle' your lecturers. Do you have to do the same in the US? Like I have stated in another post, I owe my present position in life today to the foundation I had in UNIBEN. Greatest UNIBEN!! Today, I handle projects with top notch experts and professors in the UK. |

Hello Brit, don't even go there! no day passes without one murder or rape of some kind being reported in the london 'Metro newspaper'. So get your facts right. The British media reports toned down violence that goes on around the UK. My house in the centre of london has been bugled three times already in the last 9 months. |

Thank you Seun. If they are genuinely concerned about their people, money used to buy arms can build decent houses and schools. |
