Politics / Buhari Using Weapons I Bought To Fight B’haram – Jonathan by onajo2000(m): 7:23pm On Jan 29, 2016 |
Former President Goodluck Jonathan says he is proud of the foundation he laid for the present progress the Nigerian Army is recording against the Boko Haram sect. He said the military equipment purchased during his administration is still being used to prosecute the terror war, adding that no new equipment has been bought since he left office. Jonathan said this on Wednesday night during a programme titled, ‘Focus on Africa’ aired on an international news and current affairs television channel based in Paris, France 24 Asked to speak specifically on whether he was sure his administration laid the groundwork for the recent breakthroughs recorded by the army, Jonathan said, “Of course, you know the new government is working hard and I believe they are still using the equipment we procured. “The 2016 budget is still being debated and no new equipment has been bought. So, even what the new government is still using to prosecute the war is the equipment we procured. I believe that with what we left behind, and the new ones they would acquire, this issue of Boko Haram will be taken to a logical conclusion.” Jonathan declined to comment on the changes evolved by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, saying it was not proper to make any comment. Speaking on the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, the former President said it was a normal phenomenon and that the party would soon overcome it. Jonathan also declined to make comments on the fall of the naira and other economic challenges the country is battling. When prodded on whether he felt any sense of responsibility for any misdeed done during his tenure, Jonathan said, “Please, please, I have said that I will not comment on these areas because they are sensitive areas and I wouldn’t want to create problems for my country. “I cannot comment on what is happening now. It is not proper for a former president to be commenting, either positive or negative.” Jonathan added, “The PDP will definitely have some minor issues but that is expected because we were in power for 16 years and when we lost the presidency, we began to have some kind of leadership problems. Everybody looks up to the president but when you are no longer the president, it becomes difficult for the party to have a very strong leadership. “But I believe that whatever the PDP is going through will be sorted out. Elders and leaders of the party have been meeting and all these perceived disagreement will soon be sorted out. The party will bounce back.” http://www.punchng.com/buhari-using-weapons-i-bought-to-fight-bharam-jonathan/

Politics / FG Imposes N50 Stamp Duty On Bank Customers by onajo2000(m): 5:37pm On Jan 21, 2016 |
THE Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria, on Tuesday, imposed stamp duty of N50 on bank customers for money received into their accounts. Consequently, bank customers will henceforth pay N50 stamp duty for money received into their accounts via electronic transfer, cash and cheques. This order was contained in a circular to all Deposit Money Banks and Other Financial institutions titled, Collection and Remittance of statutory charges on receipts of Nigeria Postal Service under the Stamp Duties Act”. The CBN stated, “As part of efforts to boost its revenue base, the federal government of Nigeria is exploring revenue opportunities in the non-oil sectors especially taxes and rates. It is in recognition of this fact that banks and other financial institutions are enjoined to support government’s revenue drive through compliance with the provisions of the Stamp Duties Act, LFN 2004 as reinforced by the court judgement in Suit No FHC/L/CS/1710/2013. In this regard, the CBN pursuant to the provisions of its enabling laws, hereby issues this circular to all DMBs other financial institutions: “With immediate effect, all DMBs and other financial institutions shall commence the charging of N50 per eligible transaction in accordance with the provisions of the Stamp Duties Act and Federal Government Financial Regulations 2009, that is, all receipts given by any bank or other financial institution in acknowledgment of services rendered in respect of electronic transfer and teller deposits from N1, 000 and above; “For all avoidance of doubt the following receipts are however exempted from imposition of stamp duties: payments of deposits or transfer by self to self whether inter or intra bank; and any form of withdrawals/transfers from saving accounts; It should be noted that these charges are only payable by receiving accounts; “Each DMB shall open an account designated as NIPOST Stamp Duties Account into which all charges collected shall be paid. The balances in such accounts shall be transferred monthly by the DMBs to CBN NIPOST Stamp Duty Collection Account No. 3000047517; “Other financial institutions shall remit their Stamp Duty collections to any DMB of their choice.” |

Politics / What Is Your Benefits As A Nigerian by onajo2000(m): 5:27pm On Jan 21, 2016 |
The question is what is your benefit as a citizen of Nigeria? The United Kingdom Citizens gets Free medical Health Care, and other Social benefits......The question is what is your benefit as a Nigerian? The British Police or Army will never harass a citizen of the UK, no matter the crime he or she commits, but in Nigeria you don't even have to commit a crime b4 been harassed, man handled, etc......I ask again what have you benefited as a citizen of Nigeria? |
