The biggest mistake we see parents doing (apart from spending N1.3million on a 1st Birthday Party!! Which did happen, several times) is not setting a budget when planning. The minute you say "I'm looking for an AFFORDABLE vendor for party packs/children's Party", half the good vendors will avoid you. They don't want to waste time on customers demanding a N5000 quality but want to pay N250. But once you set a BUDGET, the good vendors immediately know what to show you, within your budget.

Check out more tips (we spoke to a very big children's party planner and she even said that N1.3m was not that bad for a Birthday Party, she had clients who had spent more shocked)

Gm ma. Maybe insecticide which we occasionally spray but I stopped using perfume since she was 3 months. I want to believe she's gonna outgrow it. I don't want it to result to Asthma. That's d reason 4 my worries. Thanks

Insecticide is a big irritant. We have the same issue. Bronchitis and what you're describing means you should be quite careful, you may have a child that is prone to some upper respiratory illnesses. Nothing to be worried about, they usually outgrow it, you also have to watch out for Sinusitis. Doctors don't diagnose Asthma before the age of 2, but they will treat it. I advise you get a hospital with a Paediatrician who comes in daily. And ask the Paediatrician what his/her specialty is in. It helps if they know a pulmonologist or Thoracic physician. They're rare.

This group is very ideal,my daughter wants to write federal entrance exam to college next year but i am confused on what exactly we are to read,on how to prepare her for the exam as a parent....

Please, any parent here who will give us a clue?i will be grateful.

Firstly, are you targeting particular schools? Because if you are, then locate a parent whose child got in and find out everything they did. Loyola and Catholic schools have their own separate prep, for example.

For Federal exam, ask her teachers if they are willing to organise after-school exam prep for the subjects she'll be taking. Including list of textbooks and past questions. Her teachers should tell you where her weak points are, so she can pinpoint and use her time effectively (if she needs Current Affairs help, it's to study that in a group format. I would help my nephews and nieces ace their History and General Knowledge exams, because I knew how to cover it better than their teacher. But I couldn't help their Maths). Nothing will improve her English, Spelling and Grammar like reading well-written books. So she should get a book list, 1 a week.

Try and target 3 schools. Approach it like you're getting a job. Also, ask your bank manager, your office and your husbands office if they offer scholarships for Best Student or something outstanding. Someone's daughter got N200,000 from a bank for developing an app. A few kids get scholarships for Best exam score. The companies won't advertise it, so you have to make the enquiries. HTH

Claseek, dodo/fried plantain is very suitable. Just remove the hard bits at the edges.

My children don't like fried plantain. Like, they actually dislike it, with extreme prejudice.

So we're getting them DNA-tested because no child of mine hates dodo. These must be some white kids that got switched at birth for my babies. That's the only explanation for this calamity.

Hello mums. My 9 month old baby suddenly does not like taking her formula. She struggles to finish 120 or 150 mls. We started on Nan, then changed to SMA but she still will just play with it. She's not a particularly good eater with cereals and other meals. Any ideas on getting her to drink milk will be appreciated. Many thanks!

Break out the amala!! Seriously. My child had this issue and we were struggling with cereals. Some kids hate the taste of cereals and formula after a while. My nieces was delighted with Ogbono soup at 8 months

Hello Onegai, are you referring to the immunization(N28,500) given to a 2year olds?

No dear, this is MMR and Chicken Pox vaccines. Before 2 years. Private hospitals tend to jack up prices on vaccines they know Govt isn't giving out (this includes Rotavirus and MengC). They have to make money somehow so I can't really blame them.

any experienced mothers or fathers in the house? if it is where to get things that quality and cheap. or anyone who can put me through. will really appreciate the help.
Pls expecting a quick response. my email is adetitigold@gmail.com.

MOD.

I thought this was a very good list, I cut out the extras. Please don't go crazy buying clothes, ask yourself this "yes my baby can look super cute in all those cute baffs like the Instagram kids or my baby can be able to one day afford to go on excursion to see a Astronomy centre or graduate and be able to buy her own car and I planned and saved for it sensibly by investing extra funds for her/him from childbirth, rather than telling myself I will make money by then and not planning". Then cut out all the excess like cute baffs, baby hangars, special baby bucket in pink or blue etc.

If you're buying in bulk, try and go now to Balogun market in Lagos. Buy cartons on diapers and wipes, even our bath soap is in bulk (16 bars at a time is what I get). Because it's cheaper to buy in bulk. If you're just buying a few things, find it around you in Abeokuta. No need buying from afar and paying for delivery fees.

Hello guys! Briefly popping in and out smiley

Wow, crazy immunization bills, we just got one for N28,500. Since Nigeria is no-longer-in-a-recession-but-we're-poorer, I have decided to find my way to cheaper alternatives. Until I rig, errr I mean, WIN my primaries and join House of Reps in my state.

Please o mamas, this is totally unrelated but just bear with me.

You advise and help is urgently needed

There is this lady that got married earlier this year, she is around 40yrs, just today she said she was looking for something in her house and found a bottle inside a bag and the bottle contains a cut off piece of her clothing tied together with her hair inside the bottle, she lives alone with her hubby so nobody else could have done that except him.

She is presently confused and doesn't know what to do. I told her to inform her Pastor not the husband or any family member yet, but I am just as confused as she is, wonderful mamas

Holy sugar.

Ummm, I think she should speak to her parent(s) and pray over with her pastor. This is hard, but after she's done that, she needs to bring it up with her husband. Like "honey I saw this, I don't know where it came from, I'm really scared, I know you love me and you swore before God to protect me, do you know anything about this?". No accusations, non-confrontational but definitely demanding answers. Watch his behaviour and his answers, his body language may tell you the truth.

Because throwing it away and putting the issue out of her mind is playing Ostrich (burying her head in the sand). You've found fetish-y stuff in your home, you need to have both eyes open, there is no "ayam too married I don't wanna rock the boat, my enemies want to destroy me" level of ignoring this situation. I know Nigerian women can unlook anything in the name of Keeping Their Hometm but this is major (her hair, her clothes, if she was my daughter she'd be on extended stay at my house until I get to the bottom of this).

I wish her all the best. I hope she knew this guy reasonably well before getting married. And if someone came into their home and had access to her stuff, he needs to step up and protect her. Because that person must have come through him.

Unless she has untrustworthy relatives who visit her.

Hello guys!

We have so many posts up on www.nefescorner.com, we discussed Feeding your baby, Discipline, Sex, Fashion, Health and Safety and so much more.

The blog is a curation of several voices a collective. So if you're getting tips on Discipline, you're getting it from a Mum whose children are in their 20s. If you're getting Health tips, you're getting them from a Dad or Mum who's a Doctor. Our Sexx tips were from a Sex therapist who is also a Mum and a former exotic dancer who had twins some years back! This way, we try and give you experienced voices, people who have walked in your shoes and know what you're dealing with.

We have different sections, our "It Happened to Me section are real-life stories (yes, even the first story there was true grin).

So please check it out and enjoy. I won't always be able to drop links here (I may be leaving Nairaland) but you can always subscribe. Thanks for letting me speak smiley

New post on Libido and Sexual Satisfaction is now up! Please check www.nefescorner.com (I don't want to be banned for posting the links here because of its explicit nature). And btw, everyone involved in those posts are all mothers in their 30s. So no flat tummys and they understand where we are all coming from.

And if you want to model for Anike's Closet, she is looking for una, no flat tummy required. It's very empowering to be strutting around in fishnet body stocking or thong and feathers, grabbing your ass. Again, I cannot confirm or deny whether or not my picture doing or wearing something is on her page grin

Libido? Hmmmm Lilliesbud12
Okay, so if you can wait till afternoon today, there is actually a post coming up on the blog about Libido and Sexx. We interviewed the owner of a Sex store and the lead dancer in a Gentleman's club (look up the meaning) in Lekki (these are the girls earning in $). I don't know if I am brave enough to post the links in public (for goodness'sake, they explicitly described how to give and get "head" grin they are insane, they told me I have a long tongue sef and how to use it, ewwoooo). But yeah, check the blog today...

Oh, and after reading the posts, if you wanna model for the Sex store owner, I'll put up her contact details. Same for purchasing from her.

2 posts are up now on the blog www.nefescorner.com. Those ladies are mad and D'Vine even has a 3rd post ready to go (but I said she should hold on for now grin). I can neither confirm nor deny whether or not I deployed those tips in that post wink

New post wayyyy up!

Please this was my life and omo, I thank the Lord I got help (because I ran into one cocky olodo who rejected me in uni at Shoprite a week later grin)

Tips on dressing!

https://nefescorner.com/reclaiming-yourself/

Love the examples we picked and this is Balogun o! Some people have eye. What surprised me was our style person recommended not wearing jeans unless it was a Friday. She says it's actually pretty difficult to dress up jeans and a nice pair of pants look classier.

Anyhoo, I took her advice and now I look like a Lekki Wife cool (all baffed up with millions in my account and 2 nannies, one driver and a holiday home in London)

Nice tips there

Thanks!

I made my friend go through the steps and she immediately saw the expensive school she wanted was not for her. The calibre of teachers were more like Teaching assistants/class nannies but the school was charging N850,000 per annum (minus extras). Another friend read it and jejely withdrew her son from his school (he's asthmatic and they have no school nurse, that's a huge risk).

Hello mamas, in the words of @eksbabe make una no look my character o. I'm sorry for abandoning you guys smiley. So from when my baby was 11 months, she started making efforts to stand and would take one or two wobbly steps. This continued until past 12 months. However, since then this girl has refused to stand and even take any steps anymore. Once you put her to stand, she either curls her legs or just looks for the nearest thing to hold and when you try to force her, she just starts crying. She goes round the house standing and walking while holding things. If I had not seen her stand and take a few steps before, I would have thought it was my imagination. Did anyone experience this with their LO? Also, she still does that toe walking thing I complained about earlier although its better now as she firmly puts her feet on the ground 70% of the time but is there a way I can hasten it so she puts both feet on the ground all the time? Most importantly, how can I aid her walking because no be get myself again and I don't have strength to be carrying her always.

PS; She is 13months and 9days old.

Tiptoeing needs Orthopaedic shoes. They're specially made for your child and weighted so it forces them to keep their feet planted to the ground. You probaby have to go to Igbobi hospital to get a recommendation. If not, ask your doctor.

Walking, some babies don't walk fast. Just ignore her and give it 2 more months, she should be dancing shaku shaku. HTH.

I don't know. But I'll make some educated guesses and say "if they are blended and dries properly, stored in an airtight container, perhaps in a fridge (or not), no longer than 3 months". To maintain freshness. HTH.

Dear Mama's, nice work y'all doing. plz my issue is this: my two year old daughter I observed has been having tear drops from her eyes like she's crying. The eyes always get watery and she's always rubbing it and it causes great discomfort to her. I'v given her antibiotics yet issue persist. Plz experienced Mama's should come to my rescue. Tnx a lot.

Why did you give her antibiotics?

Please take her to a Paediatrician. If his/her answers don't satisfy you, take her to an Opthamologist (an eye doctor) not a Optometrist (someone who makes glasses). If you're in Lagos, there are a lot of Opthamologists around and some do free eye clinic on certain days.

I will post this guide on selecting schools again here

www.nefescorner.com/picking-right-pre-school-and-nursery/

If my kids take Calpol, I am alerted. If their food is too much, they tell me. There is a school nurse on standby. If emergency comes, they have their children's Doctor's contacts AND the school also has a hospital close by they are registered with. The teachers are paid well so there is motivation to work and care for my kids well. There are safety standards.

You did not carry another human being for 9 months and bring them to the world so that someone who is more concerned about making a profit over the welfare of that human being, will tell you "sorry, something happened to your baby, okay bye bye now".
