Atomic Absorption spectrometer used for analyzing soil samples don't come cheap. In fact few university can boast of it. So teaching is out of the scope...Though they are simpler testing methods, I depend on AAS for precise accuracy especially with trace elements.

Hello sir, you are truly inspiring. I have read some of your posts fully on nairaland in a few hours and I must say this, you have educated me a lot.

I truly wish to grow organically. Im currently on a sack farming project for a type of melon in the cucumber family. I'm definitely trying the blood meal on some of my plants this week. I would try making your other beautiful preparations to use in my small project.

I tried using Chlorpyrifos just once and the bees avoided pollinating my earlier melon plants for one week before they came back, even though all d terrible pests were dead. I learnt my lesson. Before then I had been looking for where to buy Neem oil as I had researched on it but nowhere to buy it in my locality. I'm in a village in ekiti on nysc.

But with your free willing ingenuity, I'm gonna prepare my own dogonyaro leaf and bark extract.

What you have is Downy mildew disease, a kind of fungi disease that can ravage your farm when not treated. Heavy rainfall and pest makes it easy for pest to transmit to the plants. Supplementing "Farmer's Fertilizer" with your home made fertilizer.

Our next fertilizer exploit promises to be interesting.We will be making fertilizer from Aloe Vera and Pigweed (Tete elegun) and then adding seaweeds from our Farmer's fertilizer. This will cut cost on nutrients supplements for our plants.

Ingredients:
Aloe Vera
Pigweeds (Tete Elegun)
Water
Farmers Fertilizer (Rich in seaweeds and Humic Acids)
Sugar

Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera contains saponins, salicylic acid, auixins, cytokine and gibberellins that are necessary for promoting and stimulating plants growth, they suppress harmful plant pathogen and help them develop strong healthy roots and stem system. Aloe Vera is a super plant for making liquid fertilizer.

Select some health succulent leaves of the Aloe and blend, add equal weight of brown sugar. (Note) Do not wash the leaves. Keep in dark cool place and allow broth to stay for seven days. After seven days keep strain and keep in a bottle and keep in dark corner of the house.

Pigweeds Tete elegun: Harvest the tips of this legendary weeds...Harvest it like you are plucking leaves for vegetable soup....Make sure you harvest the tender parts of the leaves. Measure equal parts of sugar and the weed then blend...add some little water to make a good paste. Keep aside in dark place for seven days. Pig weeds are rich in potassium, Calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, copper, and sodium. Strain and keep in a bottle.

Add equal volume of the Farmers fertilizer(Farmers fertilizer is already rich in Macro and micro nutrients) to the Aloe Vera and Pigweeds broth and your nutrients supplements is ready.This solution will help you spend less on fertilizer and maximize returns on investment.

NOTE: pigweeds can be substituted with Dandelion (Efo Yanrin) if your plants demands are high in Iron, manganese and Boron. As a farmer, you must know what and what nutrients are needed by your plants.

Another powerful addictive to neem oil is roasted palm kernel oil. Popularly called adi eyan in Yoruba. This combination with neem oil in ratio 1:1 and using black soap as emulsifier will effectively tackle tuta absoluta, army worms and major pests of cocoa pods.

Great to hear about your progress. The secrets about farming is growing from small to big, this way you learn what works and what doesn't work and grow from point of immense strength, rather than starting big and crashing big. Soil sterilization and weed control in organic farm is one post I will do soon...cheers wish you great success.

One new trick I learn is sterilizing the soil by heating. This kills the seeds of the weeds and your cucumber grows only in the sack...When you have a very healthy plants, pests and disease will find it difficult to cause serious damage. Using Farmers Fertilizer plus some of my other organic nutrients has really helped.
