Politics / Ekiti State Impeachment Saga: Obasanjo’s Factor Brings An Impasse by otolorin(m): 9:47am On Oct 10, 2006
here is an account of what obj moved for in an emergency meeting with Ekiti lawmakers - obviously this president is bringing the worst to democracy as at the moment!

" President Obasanjo’s legendary anger was at play on Friday morning at the Aso Rock Villa Abuja as he threatened Federal lawmakers from Ekiti State who met with him over the impeachment plot in Ekiti State, what seem to be a smooth sailing impeachment process against Governor Fayose and his deputy, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi has now become an impasse. The meeting which was called at the instance of Obasanjo, was convened to iron out the problem of succession upon the planned impeachment of Governor Fayose in Ekiti State. The president who told the group upfront that he was in favor of Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi, the current deputy to Fayose, wants her to be left off the hook by the impeachment panel so that she can take over as Governor of Ekiti State as the house of assembly finishes up on the impeachment of the governor. Saharareporters learnt that at the meeting, the president threatened to withdraw police protection from the speaker and 23 other state legislators of Ekiti State if the deputy governor was not allowed to take over from Fayose.

The President, Saharareporters learnt, said he did not want to listen to anything further from the group. He asked them to go out and figure out the rest and get back to him or else he will call Fayose not to bother respect the “impeachment notice’ served on him, this threat was said to have infuriated the federal lawmakers from Ekiti who told the president that they will rather have both Fayose and his deputy impeached, which allows the speaker to take over as governor for 90 days. They also made a proposal to Obasanjo to counter his argument about the cost of bye-elections in Ekiti after 90 days, the federal lawmakers told the president that political parties in Ekiti State were willing to allow the speaker of the house, Friday Aderemi to continue in power after 90 days by allowing him to “win” the bye-elections unopposed. Insisting that as a 67 years old man, he is not likely to have any ambitions to contest for office in April 2007. Obasanjo also rejected the suggestion and came up with a “gender card” requesting that Mrs. Olujimi be allowed to be the 'first female governor' in Nigeria to which the lawmakers replied that it will be better to support a female candidate with integrity to run a full tenure as governor rather than a token six months tenure, which discerning females in Nigeria will consider an insult. At this point, Obasanjo walked out on the group, and never came back. The group was also said to have hurriedly left Aso Rock to hold another meeting where they decided to confront the president on the Ekiti State issue.

A source close to president Obasanjo said he might have considered imposing a "state of emergency" on Ekiti State, if the lawmakers disagree with his proposal to allow the deputy governor take over power. The source said, he has calculated that if police protection is taken away from the 24 lawmakers and the supporters of Governor Fayose attacks them or kill anyone of them, he will simply impose a six-month state of emergency that will throw out everybody and then allows the PDP to keep the state in the 2007 elections, was had always been his concern from day one. Meanwhile, Governor Fayose is also reported to have vowed to take Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi with him, if he goes down as expected next week. The deputy governor was said to have been directly accused by the governor of her involvement - Mrs. Biodun Olujimi- in the “armed robbery murder” of a federal house of representative member, Hon. Abiodun Talabi who was killed on the Abuja –Lokoja highway supposedly by armed robbers in November 2003, sources within the state house in Ekiti State said Hon. Talabi was actually killed by a “hit squad” from Ekiti State. During that period, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi was Fayose’s media aide. Also, sources close to Ekiti State chief judge, Justice Bamisile said he had gone underground again due to pressure by governor fayose to submit a list of persons he wanted on the investigation panel, Governor Fayose, on three occasions since the judge made an announcement to constitute the panel, the embattled governor has tried to submit three different lists to the chief judge and three times he has rejected it. The source told Saharareporters that a dangerous persistence of governor Fayose on the chief judge led him to go into hiding from the governor. When all efforts to locate the chief judge proved futile, Gov. Fayose was said to have gone on radio to accuse the chief judge of selling out!

On the Lagos front, 24 legislators are still determined to carry out the impeachment of Fayose as widely expected, they are said to be putting finishing touches to their "third act", which involves storming Ekiti State to impeach Fayose as soon as the investigative panel concludes its job, sources also told Saharareporters that president Obasanjo might have invited them to Abuja for a meeting during the week in order for him to sell his “order” to the 24 lawmakers, Also tomorrow (Monday) the libel lawsuit instituted by Governor Fayose against TheNEWS magazine comes up for further hearing Ado-Ekiti before Justice Daramola, sources at the magazines said they intend to call in witnesses to justify their story that governor Fayose is corrupt. The EFCC will be sending in officials to testify before the judge about their findings, it is unclear if Governor Fayose will attend the hearing since he was already quizzed by lawyers in June 2006. The case is expected to be the ‘dress rehearsal’ for the impeachment hearings on Governor Fayose in Ekiti State. Also, the lawsuit compelling the Inspector General of Police , Sunday Ehindero to investigate the murder of Mr. Omojola who was murdered by the killer squad in Ekiti State comes up for further hearing tomorrow at the Federal High Court, Abuja under Justice Binta Nyako.

The police authorities continue to arrest more people connected to politically motivated murders in Ekiti State, on Wednesday, police detectives succeeded in arresting a Kwara State based “herbalist” who made a ritual of a kidnapped pregnant woman in 2003 by a group allegedly led by Governor Fayose’s personal assistant, Goke Olatunji. Though police authorities had made considerable progress in identifying the role(s) played each of the 9 members of the “killer squad” currently in police custody in Abuja, the police authorities were said to be foot-dragging in arraigning them before a competent law court because a member of the PDP board of trustee, Chief Dayo Okondo was involved. The party hierarchy is said to be putting pressure on the IG not to charge them for murder since by implication that would mean that the PDP is a party of murderers. "

@donnie
i appreciate.
soem denominations teach it as a doctrine + they cite that repentance is not complete without it!

to some extent they substitute restitution for repentance - for instance, returnin a forcefully taken property without any remorse for the act. "afterall, i have given back what i had forcefully taken"

its really disheartening to see some poeple being misled to over-emphasize restitution at the expense of the aboundant grace of God + ability to obtain total forgiveness from God.

@ivory
peace!
take things easy man - i decided to categorize ur post so that i could help with the points yu raised categorically.

1. true most pple outside dont really know what you're goin tru in d sch, but i bet you pple inside really know what you're talkin 'bout - and even more than you can imagine.
believe me, things cannot continue like dat for a long time and plans are goin underway for a peaceful and an effective revolution!

2. unfulfilled promises? - bet me you've never heard more dan i have since i came was admitted almost 4 yrs ago. - Gradually these promises fade out and then our hopes are dased - but you want to also agree with me that most of these promises are better tagged "slow to fulfilment" other than "empty". i had done more about complaining than you are doing now, but i grew to understand that it wouldn't help me - i only needed to make d best of their "insuffiencies"
like i sain in my previous post - when life gives lemon, give lemonade"

3.dis has been a disturbance since the day i got the news, but think of it? - haven't yu bin lately disturebed by the rcent turn of female + male dressing on campus. though. corporate dressing might not have been the ultimate slap but its not a totally absurd idea.
i have, and would like you 2 to resolve to getting acquinted with these changes as you'll never make progress except you adopt these changes!.
you know pretty too well that once they make their rules, yu dare not go against it, as the only resort is "expulsion".

4 & 5. life goes on. imagine a sch without these "wannabes". if every1 were a serious and realistic, down-2-earth student, dont yu tink we'll be living a rather too straight lifestyle.
on a serious note - i think you'll do yourselve the best of favours if you ignore these pple. afterall, you came to sch on ur own accord, if they've decided to while away their time, you remain focused! when u go to munchies or wheerver to eat, hjust do the eating and go yur own way. its the best therapy!
you can not do away with these pple in every organisation - whether small or large scaled!

6. i really do feel you, dats why i've taken the time to serve you with the medication that has +God's grace, sen me through almost 4 yrs on campus.
i bet you, they'll do you more good than you can imagine if you stick to them.

+ if you can, please lay your hands on "Who Moved My Cheese" - this book will tell you how to make the best of changes and disappointments.

i hope i have helped a brother. - Peace!

i happen to subscribe to a daily online news-letter about the goings in the country (Nigeria Today Online) - and after reading an article about the president, i tot it would be good to hear your views.
this issue truely cannot be swept under the carpet as it is fast becoming unethical.
i will insert, in quote the whole of the article.

" I am going to discuss a topic which even though has been a subject of animated discussion among Nigerians of all classes in the past seven years, has hardly found expression on the pages of Nigerian newspapers. The subject, as can be gleaned from the title of the column   is the interesting and curious relationship between the president and the opposite sex. Ordinarily, one's love life should be a private affair. But in this case, it is no longer in that realm because, first, the president of a nation is not a private citizen. Second and perhaps more germane for us in Nigeria, is the fact that this presidential lasciviousness is already affecting the way the Nigerian state is run.

If President Olusegun Obasanjo were to be a private Ota chicken farmer, no one would have bothered if he has the libido of a he-goat. But the Nigerian president is not. He is the leader of Africa's most populous nation and potentially its most influential. The Nigerian president takes decisions that affect the lives of what might as well be more than 150 million people and some of the decisions he has taken already are impacting on the Nigeria we will leave behind for our progeny. The incessant fuel price increases for instance have changed the fortunes of the majority of Nigerians and their children yet unborn. The president's petulant refusal to retire the Inspector General of Police, for self-serving reasons of course, who has been long due for retirement and even though he is not performing, might have caused more unresolved assassinations and deaths by armed robbery. His deliberate choice of dubious characters to superintend the 2003 general elections killed democracy in 2003. And whether we want to deceive ourselves or not, we are currently in the last days of this contraption we call democracy and history will prove this presently. But all that is by the way!

The president is a known compulsive philanderer and this is authoritative. We got this firm confirmation from no less a personality than the First Daughter herself, Ms Iyabo Obasanjo. In a recent interview with Daily Sun, Ms Obasanjo made herself clear. ''My father loves women and he knows it'' she declared. We should also be thankful to Vice President Atiku Abubakar who mercifully revealed to us recently that the president bought several cars for his paramours through a slush fund they both operated at the expense of the Nigerian people. That's even only the women the VP is privy to, as the president definitely has several others scattered all over the place ministering to his erotic needs. And it will only be reasonable to think that if the president will purchase expensive cars for mistresses, he will also be the one responsible for the general upkeep of such women and, of course, the general maintenance of the posh cars. It will also be plausible to assume that the president has offered appointments and contracts to several women more for what they offer him in bed than what they can offer the Nigerian state.

During Obasanjo's first term, Nigerians used to be entertained with executive gossip (sometimes from presidential aides) of the ''incestuous relationship between the president and his female ministers, some of who were married. That was when the terms  minister/mistress  and the ''queen of the cabinet'' entered our lexicon. We were occasionally treated to scintillating details that suggested that our septuagenarian president, who had performed so dismally in statecraft, was after all a super stud. Of course, by then, all the tales about a born-again Christian president had evaporated into thin air. The president himself was even said to have whimsically told some of his friends shortly after he took over power in 1999 that he was born-again only from his head to the waist. Meaning that his loins had nothing to do with the term ''born-again''. The president meant it to be a joke, but some of those present did not laugh. It was not funny. That was when it dawned on some people that the president's  ''born-againnest'' had not been tested outside prison and if he was born-again at all, he needed to get born-again, again.

It will be difficult to know what the president wants to prove at 70. What new territories would a 70-year-old want to conquer if he had not already done so in his 20s and 30s? Of what purpose would it be to capture fresh virgin lands at that stage of ones existence?
Not even the HIV scourge had made much sense to him. A former female minister from the South East once told her colleagues that their bosses strategy against the HIV scourge was to engage only women above 50 years. His funny logic was that the HIV/AIDS pandemic being a recent plague would not be common in such an older women group. How illiterate! Like I said last week, newspapers and associates have linked the president to more than 32 women and 70 children. If he disputes the paternity of about 10 of the children, then it means the president may have roughly 60 children at the very least. I wonder why the Guinness Book of World Records has not taken notice yet. The president must have read the Biblical injunction of  ''go ye into the world and multiply'' out of context.

Any 70-year-old man who is so salaciously reckless must be investing quite heavily in Viagra or its derivatives. But again, we are told by the experts that such drugs are decidedly dangerous for certain people, especially the elderly. The president was said to have collapsed sometime ago during a bout of squash, quickly sparking rumours across the country that he had gone home to be with the Lord. Doctors should be able to determine whether there was any direct relationship between that black-out and the generous intake of Viagra. But if the president cannot slow down, we should beg him to heed the good counsel of Dr (Mrs) Dora Akunyili, the energetic director-general of NAFDAC, who authoritatively told us about a fortnight ago that cocoa is a better aphrodisiac than Viagra. The National Assembly could even show loyalty by passing a supplementary budget solely dedicated for the purchase of good quality cocoa for Aso Rock. We can't afford another president dying in office  again. Worse still of the same cause.
All said, Obasanjo's problems are just too many. I am not about to suggest that siring 70 children out of wedlock is an impeachable offence, but smooching more than 30 women, some of them married, in the lifetime of a presidency should definitely qualify as a misdemeanour of impeachment proportions. It is not that Obasanjo is the first libertine to lead this country, but none has been this openly lewd. It is dangerous for everyone to pretend that nothing is wrong. You can't teach your children that rigging elections, stealing public funds and leading the life of a Casanova are normal ways of life and expect the next generation to be globally competitive. It is not for nothing that such matters are serious campaign issues in civilised democracies. Obasanjo has failed so badly as a leader, precisely because he doesnt possess the right leadership values.

I am not in anyway suggesting that we elect a clergyman in 2007 for president, but we must certainly not have a Don Juan in Aso Rock again! "
