Former governor of Delta State,  Chief James Ibori was on Thursday finally extradited to the United Kingdom from the United Arab Emirates over allegations of stealing about $292 million in state funds and funneling the money to British banks.

Femi Babafemi, spokesman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC ,  confirmed to the Associated Press Friday that Ibori was taken from Dubai on Thursday.

Babafemi said it was " a warning signal to others" after Ibori escaped arrest in Nigeria by fleeing to Dubai.

Dubai's highest court ordered Ibori's extradition to UK in December last year but he was able to delay the execution through series of legal manipulations. He was kept in detention while challenging the extradition order.

British police confirmed Friday that Ibori was flown to Heathrow with a police escort and was now in its custody in West London.

Ibori is expected to face several trials in the UK relating to money laundering and theft. His wife, Theresa; his sister, Christine Ibie-Ibori; and a mistress, Udoamaka-Okoronkwo (nee Onuigbo) have already been jailed in the UK for similar offences.

Only on April 1, his UK lawyer, Bhadresh Gohil, was given a 10-year sentence.
