Politics / Lagos Govt, Afenifere, Others Condemn Attack On Obaseki’s Convoy* by oviosun: 1:19pm On Nov 04, 2019

The weekend’s attack on the convoy of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, by hoodlums at the residence of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, in Iyamho, Edo State has elicited reactions from Lagos State government; the Pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere; and Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).

In separate interviews with THISDAY yesterday, Lagos State government, Afenifere and PANDEF flayed the attack, describing it as not only uncalled for but also sacrilegious and unwarranted.

The Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Prince Bayo Osiyemi, described the attack on Oba of Lagos as sacrilegious.

“The attack on any monarch is a sacrilege for which the perpetrators must seek divine forgiveness,” he said, adding: “The attack on the premier Oba in Lagos State somewhere in Edo State is uncalled for and whoever sponsored the attackers must do a quick rethink and desist from such untoward behaviour.”

Osiyemi stated that the state government rejoiced with the Oba of Lagos and all others in the attacked convoy because none of them was harmed by the hired hoodlums.

Also condemning the incident, spokesman of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, stated emphatically that “it is a sacrilege that political thugs working for area fathers in politics would extend their gangsterism to the Oba of Lagos.”
Politics / Sustainable Devt: Edo Tasks Council Chairmen On Ownership Of Projects In Their L by oviosun: 4:07pm On Sep 12, 2019
As part of efforts to ensure the sustainability of government projects designed to help in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in rural areas, the Edo State Government has tasked local council chairmen to take ownership of projects and programmes executed in their area of jurisdiction.

Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq. gave the charge at a one-day Interactive Engagement Session with local council chairmen on community ownership and local implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) projects in the state.

The session which was held at Government House in Benin City, was organised by the Edo State Office of the SDGs.

Ogie noted that the Obaseki-led administration is strengthening the synergy between the state government and the local councils for optimal performance, adding that while the state government is implementing projects across the state, chairmen of local councils need to take ownership of such projects.

“We spend so much money to execute projects and people should appreciate and own these projects,” he stressed.

Edo Focal Person of SDGs, Mrs Ifueko Alufohai, said the essence of the interactive session with the council chairmen was to improve synergy for better management of SDGs' projects.

She said the office of the SDGs needed to collaborate better with the chairmen in order to actualise the 17 SDGs in the state, noting, “The focus of SDGs is community ownership. We implement programmes and projects at the grassroots and local government chairmen need to be carried along to ensure the sustainability of the projects.”

Also, Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Joseph Eboigbe, said the SDGs have a set of frameworks that would assist chairmen of local councils to plan and deliver development to people at the grassroots.

Eboigbe added that a common practice in the country has been to focus attention on the Conditional Grant Scheme of the SDGs instead of using the SDGs Framework for economic planning, noting, “Council bosses should use the principles of SDGs to enhance their abilities to plan their budgets and overall development of their councils.”

Chairman, Edo State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, (ALGON) Hon. Jenkins Osunde, said the interactive session was timely, beneficial and brought to the fore the need for councils' involvement in the execution of SDGs’ projects.

Politics / Obaseki Congratulates Buhari On Victory At Presidential Election Petition Tribun by oviosun: 6:43pm On Sep 11, 2019

*_…says verdict well-deserved_*

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, describing the verdict of the tribunal as well-deserved.

The tribunal verdict, ¬delivered by its Chairman, Garba Mohammed, in its ruling on Wednesday, dismissed the petition by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, challenging the president’s victory in the February 23 Presidential election.

In a statement, Obaseki noted, “I heartily congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on his well-deserved victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on September 11, 2019, which is a resounding affirmation of the choice of Nigerians on February 23, for a second term for the President.”

He said, “The tribunal confirms our stance that President Buhari remains the preferred leader at this time, to reset our country on the path of greatness.”

Obaseki saluted the courage of the tribunal in upholding the mandate given by millions of Nigerians, noting, “It is refreshing that we have reached this threshold and I am confident that this outcome would enhance this administration’s resolve in championing the next level agenda of the President.”

“On behalf of the government and people of Edo State, I once again, congratulate the president and our great party the All Progressives Congress (APC), on this landmark victory. Congratulations, our dear President,” Obaseki added.

Politics / Senate’s Resolution On Edo Assembly Unconstitutional, Flagrant Disregard For Pri by oviosun: 4:34pm On Jul 30, 2019
*_…says illegality will not stand, counsels that resolution could set state ablaze_*

The Edo State Government has described as unconstitutional and a flagrant disregard for the Principle of Separation of Powers, the resolution of the Senate directing the Governor of Edo State to issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., the state government declared that “this illegality will not stand” and advised “powerful persons not be allowed to set our State ablaze merely to satisfy their thirst for power and control.”

According to the statement: “The Edo State Government watched with alarm today as the distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in a step that was not totally unexpected, purported to pass a resolution in the following terms: - Directing the Governor of Edo State to issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly, and Ordering a fresh inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly within one (1) week from the date of the said Resolution.

“As earlier mentioned, this move was not unexpected in the light of the enormous political pressure which had been brought to bear on the Officers and Members of the distinguished Senate by the highly placed and powerful persons who are intent on foisting their will and choices on the good people of Edo State.

“This is borne out by the recorded statements made by one Seid Oshiomhole (a Member-elect and younger brother of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Comrade Adams Oshiomhole) wherein he boasted that both the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila have been instructed on what to do in this matter.”

The statement added: “The Government of Edo State wishes to observe that the Chairman and Members of Ad-Hoc Committee of the Senate which visited Edo State were made aware of the existence of at least three (3) suits pending before various Courts wherein the factual and legal dispute regarding the Edo State House of Assembly inauguration have been submitted to the Courts by both contending parties for resolution.”

Ogie noted that “The Ad-Hoc Committee also failed to inform the Senate of the existence of a valid injunction in Suit No FHC/B/OS/70/2019 wherein the Federal High Court restrained various parties from interfering in any manner with the activities of the Edo State House of Assembly which said order had been brought to their attention in the course of their visit to Edo State.

He maintained that: “In point of fact in Suit No. FHC/PH/CS/159/2019 the National Assembly, the Clerk of National Assembly, the President of the Senate and Speaker of House of Representatives amongst others were specifically ordered by the Federal High Court to maintain the Status Quo as at 25th July, 2019.

“The Edo State Government is further aware that in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/815/2019, wherein the Clerk and the National Assembly are defendants before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the National Assembly and the Clerk have not only been duly served with the processes but have entered appearance in the matter.

“It is unfortunate that the Distinguished Senate would act in flagrant breach of these various Court Orders and purport to come to factual and legal conclusions concerning a matter in which the parties are already before the Courts and therefore subjudice.

“We are also concerned that the Members of the Distinguished Senate appear to have very scant regard for the principle of separation of powers as enshrined in our Constitution which is manifested by their taking over the functions of the Judiciary in dispute resolution and giving directives to a Governor of a State who is certainly not subject to the supervision of the National Assembly.

“The Edo State Government maintains that there is nowhere in the Constitution particularly Section 11(4) which enables the National Assembly to “take over” any House of Assembly or in this respect, the Edo State House of Assembly.”

The SSG added that “It must be further observed that it has always been the contention of the Edo State Government that the power to issue a proclamation for the inauguration of a House of Assembly as set out in Section 105(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was duly and completely complied with and it is not within the power of the Governor to recall same once issued or to perform the same act multiple times. Once the Governor issues a proclamation letter, his job is done.

“It is the duty of the Clerk of the House of Assembly to inaugurate the House of Assembly and he has since performed that task. He has further approached a Court of law to seek a validation of his actions. The pronouncements of the Distinguished Senate on the subject (with respect) is clearly misconceived and would amount to interference in the role of the Courts which may in fact constitute contempt with which the Governor would not wish to be associated.

“The Government of Edo State firmly believes that our State is not a colony or a vassal of any person or persons exercising power in Abuja and we shall take all necessary steps within the ambit of the law to defend and validate our position and actions on this matter.

“We call on all persons of goodwill to call the powerful wielders of “power and authority” in Abuja and elsewhere to refrain from acts which are clearly unconstitutional, undemocratic and a flagrant disrespect for the principle of due process and separation of powers.

“These powerful persons should not be allowed to set our State ablaze merely to satisfy their thirst for power and control. As we have always maintained on this subject: - This illegality will not stand!!!”

Politics / House Of Reps Lacks Constitutional Powers To Shut Down Edo Assembly – Edo Govt* by oviosun: 3:01pm On Jul 18, 2019
*House of Reps lacks Constitutional Powers to shut down Edo Assembly – Edo Govt*

*_…we’ll not comment on a matter before competent court_*

The Edo State Government has said that the House of Representatives lacks the Constitutional powers to shut down the Edo State House of Assembly.

The state government’s statement is a response to the purported orders made on July 17, by the House of Representatives to the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to seal off Edo House of Assembly until a proper inauguration is done, amongst others.

In a statement issued in Benin City, Secretary to Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., maintained that  “there is nowhere in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where the House of Representatives or even the National Assembly for that matter, is granted the right or power to shut down a State House of Assembly,” adding that “in point of fact such power is expressly excluded by the Constitution.”

Ogie said: “It has come to the attention of the Government of Edo State that the House of Representatives at its sitting on 17th July, 2019 purported to issue certain orders regarding the status and activities of the Edo State House of Assembly.

“Amongst others, it: Directed His Excellency, The Governor of Edo State to ‘issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the House of Assembly’ and ordered the Inspector General of Police to shut down the premises of the Edo State House of Assembly and purported to make further orders in this regard.”

According to the SSG, “The Government and people of Edo State are appalled and disappointed at the gross illegality and abuse of process by the House of Representatives.”

He explained: “It must first of all be pointed out that the emergency supervisory powers over the activities of State Houses of Assembly which are contained in Section 11 of the Constitution of our Republic are expressly donated to “The National Assembly” and not one individual arm of it.

He added that “These powers certainly do not extend to issuing directives to a duly elected State Governor to unlawfully repeat an act which has already been fully carried out in line with the Constitution.

“It has further not been alleged or concluded by anyone that the Edo State House of Assembly is unable to sit. In fact, whenever the ‘self-exiled’ members-elect so choose, they can join their colleagues in plenary in Benin City.

“It is also instructive to note that while the members of the House of Representatives were busy in Abuja issuing their unlawful and unconstitutional orders, the fact-finding delegation of the Distinguished Senate (the upper arm of the National Assembly) was in Benin meeting with Stakeholders with a view to fashioning a road map to peace in our land.”

Ogie noted that “Students of history will recall that the crises in the Western Region Parliament in the 1960s which triggered a conflagration that eventually engulfed the entire nation, was precipitated by a similar attempt to use ‘Federal might’ to muscle, intimidate and overwhelm the functionaries of a Federating unit outside the due process of law.

“Since the situation in the Edo State House of Assembly is a matter currently pending before two (2) Courts of competent jurisdiction, the Government of Edo State would not follow the contemptuous example of those who are currently commenting, adjudicating upon and giving directives on matters currently being litigated upon.”

He emphasised “Suffice it to say however that there is nowhere in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where the House of Representatives or even the National Assembly for that matter, is granted the right or power to shut down a State House of Assembly, in point of fact such power is expressly excluded by the Constitution.”

The state government advised “those interested parties who sit in positions of authority in Abuja and are using their offices to influence the House of Representatives to take note that we all ultimately owe a debt of accountability to the good people of Edo State for our actions.

“We are certain that the Inspector General of Police, being a law-abiding Government Functionary will not act in disobedience to the Order of a Federal High Court in Benin, validly issue and served upon him restraining him from doing exactly what the House of Representatives now purport to direct him to do, which is to shut down the Edo State House of Assembly.

“Both sides of this dispute are currently before the Court and we are shocked that the House of Representatives could allow itself to be made to act in breach of its own Rules which forbid it from entertaining or making pronouncements on matters before Courts.”

Edo government acknowledged its respect for the National Assembly, but noted that “we live in a nation governed by laws, where no single individual or group is permitted to utilise its privileged position to oppress and intimidate the people of an entire State.

“The Government does not intend to comment on the details of this House of Assembly dispute as same are clearly sub judice, but will ask all concerned to tread with caution so as not to precipitate crises simply in pursuit of selfish agenda.”

Ogie added: “We must state that the final verdict in this matter will ultimately be rendered by the good people of Edo State, for whose benefit Government exists. We are certain therefore that this illegality will not stand.”

Politics / Edo Speaker Cautions As Reps Wade Into Assembly Crisis* by oviosun: 3:30pm On Jul 10, 2019
https://guardian.ng/news/edo-speaker-cautions-as-reps-wade-into-assembly-crisis

*
The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, yesterday urged the House of Representatives not to allow itself to be used by anyone to achieve their personal agenda.

This came as the federal lawmakers adopted a motion under matters of urgent importance sponsored by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, to constitute an ad-hoc committee to probe into the issue with the aim of ensuring an amicable resolution.

According to Okiye, the Edo House of Assembly was duly inaugurated on June 17, 2019 and since then the business of law-making has been going on without any hinderance.

He said: “May I state that apart from the fact that the Edo Assembly complied with the Nigerian constitution in the inauguration of the House, there also exists a court order with suit number FHC/B/CS/70/2019, FHC/B/M/285/2019, ordering the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, all defendants, their servants and agents, not to interfere, disrupt or obstruct the constitutional duties of members of the Edo House of Assembly.”

The speaker said: “We welcome the decision of the House of Representatives to investigate all the issues surrounding the inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly. We are confident that they would not find anything contrary to the provisions of the Constitution.

“We humbly advise them to be guided and not get involved in petty politics to fan the ego of an aspiring Godfather.”
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives yesterday waded into the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly.

Ihonvbere (Edo: APC) wanted the House to wade into the matter so as to ensure the proper inauguration of the Edo House of Assembly, with the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of State Security Services (SSS) providing the necessary security for the entire 24 members-elect to be sworn in as expected and required by law.

The lawmaker expressed concern over what he termed the improper, clandestine and nocturnal inauguration of the Seventh Edo State House of Assembly on June 17, 2019, wherein nine out of 24 members-elect were purportedly sworn in without the knowledge of other 15 members-elect.

He accused Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy of being responsible for the alleged abduction of four members-elect against their wish, thereby forcing the Clerk of the House to secretly swear in nine members-elect out of the 24 at 9:30 p.m. outside the normal time recognised by the rules of the House for the conduct of legislative business.

Ihonvbere, who claimed that majority of the members-elect of the Edo State House of Assembly had since fled the state due to fear for their lives, contended that no normal legislative business can take place unless the proper procedure for inaugurating the legislature is done as envisaged and guaranteed by the constitution.

Meanwhile, the Deputy House Majority Leader, Mr. Peters Akpatason, who co-sponsored the motion, said he felt psychologically traumatised that Edo State, which produced nationalists like Anthony Enahoro, Tony Anenih and Adams Oshiomhole, had been taken over by political rascals masquerading as true democrats.

He was supported by Johnson Oghuma (Edo: APC), who stated that the crisis must be nipped in the bud in the interest of democratic rule in the country.

Politics / Obaseki, Edo’s Political Reformer Adds Another Year Today* by oviosun: 1:43pm On Jul 01, 2019
*_By: Crusoe Osagie_*

Less than three years into his first term as Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, with his governance style, has etched his name in Edo people’s hearts.

His brand of politics is gaining grounds speedily despite the odds posed by the old politics of entitlement and gratification, without any value addition.

His approval ratings in the streets are at an all time high, over 80 per cent, as he continues to change public perception of governance with his insistence on putting Edo people and residents first as well as doing more and talking less.

Obaseki’s resolve to frugally apply the state’s resources to critical sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, job creation programmes, civil service reforms amongst others, has put the state on the path of prosperity.

He has altered the old political order with a commitment not to fritter Edo people’s resources.

Instead he has adopted policies and programmes that are empowering millions of Edo people economically and socially.

This rare stance resonates with millions of Edo people, who have since rolled up their sleeves to fight on the side of the governor, in the battle to take the state from a few greedy individuals who want to feed fat on the state’s resources.

As proof of the people’s growing support for the governor, they handed Obaseki his first victory in the last local government election, in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) cleared all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the 18 local councils.

Same landslide victory was repeated in the last house of assembly election. The 24 available seats were won by the APC.

His impressive management of the state’s resources dominates conversations across the state.

His large-hearted and civil disposition to governance, accommodation of opposing views and criticisms as well as his firm belief in the oneness and progress of all Edo people, irrespective of their political leanings and convictions, class and stature, have continued to endear him to millions of people in the state and beyond.

The governor’s progressive politics has been seen at play in the way he resolves very complex and knotty issues in the course of governing.

One of such knotty issues was the resolution of the issues around the Ojuromi of Uromi, His Royal Highness, Anselm O. Aidonojie II.

Obaseki re-instated the traditional ruler and extended his developmental programmes to Esan land, a major power bloc in Edo State politics.

The resulting goodwill and open governance style created inroads for the APC in Edo Central Senatorial District, a former stronghold of the opposition party.

The growing public appeal of Obaseki’s governance model also stems from the even distribution of infrastructure and impactful programmes across the nook and cranny of the three senatorial districts.

The ‘Wake and See’ sobriquet, which amplifies the Obaseki brand among his millions of followers, continues to reverberate across all parts of the state as more people wake up daily to witness the construction of new roads, bridges, revamped schools, health centres, in areas far flung from the city centre, and where no influential politicians reside.

Obaseki has redefined governance with his people-centric governance style and the positive reviews and commentaries over his brand of politics have cast him in the mould of the late Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia and the late Prof. Ambrose Alli.

As the Edo State governor’s positive ratings soar, Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently snatched him into their hierarchy by electing him Vice Chairman of the APC Governors Forum.

The move according to the governors, is to strengthen their league and tap from Obaseki’s rich boardroom experience and people-centric politics, that have made Edo one of the best performing states in the country.

For example, Edo currently is in the lead in the ease of doing business reforms. Basic education reforms and efforts to bring an end to human trafficking in the state, have been applauded by the World Economic Forum, the European Union and several national governments.

Current statistics put the number of illegal migrants entering Italy from Nigeria at 10 people per day, from the former figure of 1000 per day, where Edo State accounts for 60 per cent of the ugly trend.

The significant drop in the figures of illegal migrants from Edo has been linked to the far-reaching work of the Obaseki-led administration, in partnership with the traditional institution and other stakeholders to nip the problem in the bud.

On the giant strides of the governor in the education sector, the World Economic Forum in its recent report said: “The governor of Edo State is becoming an international symbol of successful public-sector education transformation. Godwin Obaseki has become a trailblazer, quickly and dramatically lifting the quality of government schools and upskilling teachers in his low-income state.

The forum added: “He has described his reforms - known as EdoBEST - as a means of boosting the economy and improving people’s life chances. Institutions such as the World Bank and the IFC have been looking at how Obaseki has so effectively reformed state education in only one year.”

Obaseki’s empowerment initiatives such as the Edo Production Centre, the Edo Innovation Hub and the Agriculture cluster have put Edo youths to work and transforming their lives.

His clean politics has continued to endear leaders of opposition political parties to the governor. Recently, some prominent leaders in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) such as Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, Chief Tom Ikimi and Chief Osamede Adun, popularly known as Bob Izua, visited the governor and hailed his pro-people policies, programmes and openness to ideas and contributions from the constituents.

For these political actors and millions of Edo people and residents, Obaseki does not need any aggressive campaign to secure a second term in office.

Though the gubernatorial election in Edo State is still over a year from now, Edo people are angling to sustain the transformation they have witnessed under Obaseki in the last two years and a half.

Professionals, artisans and market women, many of whom have never voted before, have vowed to cast their votes for Obaseki in the 2020 governorship election.

According to these Obaseki’s supporters, “the governor’s policies of inclusiveness guarantee better life for women, children, the unemployed and vulnerable groups as well as victims of human trafficking.”

As the governor adds another year to his age, what better way to celebrate his impact on the lives of Edo people.

Politics / Inauguration Of Edo House Of Assembly Met Requirements Of The Law - Comrade Iret by oviosun: 3:47pm On Jun 26, 2019
Spokesperson to the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Comrade Aigbefo Jnr. Iretiose, has said that the inauguration of Edo House of Assembly met all requirements of the law.

According to Iretiose, “the responsibility of the Edo State Governor with regard to the inauguration of the House of Assembly, begins and ends with the issuance of a Proclamation Letter.”

He added that “Governor Obaseki duly issued the Proclamation Letter and the inauguration held at the House of Assembly.”

On the emergence of principal officers in the assembly, the Speaker’s spokesperson explained that: “The decision on the principal officers of the assembly was arrived at by the State Working Committee of the party.”

He noted that “while the inauguration was ongoing, some of the members-elect who came to their senses, left the venue of the press conference which some of the members-elect had organised, and went to the house of assembly, where they presented themselves for inauguration at 3:30pm.”

He advised the members-elect who have not been inaugurated to complete their documentation and present themselves for inauguration.

“The House of Assembly is open to other members-elect who want to be inaugurated just as the two members-elect: Hon. Sunday Ojiezele and Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa, who were inaugurated on Monday by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye,” Iretiose added.

Politics / Oredo APC Leaders Give okaeben 48hrs Ultimatum To Apologise To Obaseki, Or Risk by oviosun: 3:16pm On Jun 22, 2019
*_…congratulate Okiye-led State Assembly_*

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oredo Local Government Area has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the member-elect, Oredo East Constituency, at the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Mr. Chris Okaeben, to apologise to Governor Godwin Obaseki, for smearing the reputation of the governor in the public space.

The ultimatum was given at an expanded meeting of the leaders drawn from the 12 wards in Oredo LGA, at the APC council Secretariat in Uwa, off 3rdEast Circular Road, in Benin City, Edo State.

The meeting was presided over by the Chairman, Oredo LGA APC, Mr. Goodwill Alabi, with notable leaders in attendance, including Chairman, Oredo LGA, Hon. Jenkins Osunde; former member, EDHA, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha; former National Vice Chairman, South-South, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Rev. Michael Egharevba; immediate past Edo APC Women leader, Aisosa Amadasun, Edo State APC Youth Leader, Hon. Valentine Asuen, among others.

At the meeting, the leaders unanimously agreed to call on Chris Okaeben to tow the path of honour and apologise to the governor or risk being recalled as their representative at the State House of Assembly.

Rev. Egharevba, who spoke on behalf of the leaders, said Okaeben has 48 hours to apologise to the governor otherwise the APC in Oredo will have no other option than to explore the necessary political and legal instruments to commence his recall.

He noted, “We want to make a categorical statement. Chris Okagben, a ranking member-elect for the second term in Oredo LGA on the platform of the APC, has gone rogue, showing no respect to the party and the constituency he represents.”

“With all what he said, including the accusations made against the governor and the party members, we want to disassociate ourselves from him and condemn his actions. We didn’t send him on such an errand and do not support his actions. We therefore give him 48 hours to apologise to the governor in two national dailies.”

Egharevba added “It is not our intention as a party to send any individual to represent us in the parliament, who lacks character, candor and respect for leaders and constituted authorities, and having observed with utter disappointment the way and manner in which Okaeben has conducted himself, we have decided that he lacks the necessary qualities to hold forth for us in the Edo State House of Assembly.

“If ever Okaeben possessed any good quality to be our representative in the past, his behavior in the last few months has shown that he has lost every sense of discipline and decorum and we have decided to place stiff sanction  to avoid sending someone to the assembly who will soil the hard earned reputation and integrity of this constituency.

“We therefore, by this medium, unequivocally decide to give member-elect, Chris Okaeben 48 hours to render an unreserved apology to our son, the Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki and the leadership of Oredo APC; and cause same to be published in two National dailies.”

He said that it was regrettable that Okaeben has taken a dishonourable path, noting “He has gone virile with his comments, insulting everybody and making unfounded allegations against his party. Oredo people strongly condemn his attitude, behaviour, disloyalty to the party. He cannot represent us if he continues like this.

The leader congratulated the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye and other principal officers of the 7th Assembly.

Rev. Egharevba noted, “We speak with one voice in congratulating the Speaker of the 7th Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Frank Okiye, on his emergence as Speaker and this also goes to other principal members of the Assembly. We also use this medium to urge other members-elect of the Assembly who are yet to be sworn-in to follow the lawful process and approach the new speaker for their swearing-in.”

Politics / Archbishop Idahosa Writes Obaseki, Urges Governor To Shun Detractors* by oviosun: 3:11pm On Jun 20, 2019
*Archbishop Idahosa writes Obaseki, urges governor to shun detractors*

The Archbishop of the Church of God Mission International, Dr. Margret Benson Idahosa, has assured Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, of the support of well-meaning Edo people and residents, on account of his developmental strides.

In a letter addressed to the governor, issued on June 6, Archbishop Idahosa urged Governor Obaseki to continue with his good works across the state, encouraging him to keep putting the people first in his policy decisions.

Idahosa noted, “I was thinking about you and the happenings in the state, and decided to write to encourage you to know that we are supporting you in prayers and that God will give you more grace to continue with your good works all over the state.

“Even the blind can see the efforts you are putting in to make much out of little. I am sure Edo people will show you their appreciation when the time comes.”

She urged the governor not to be distracted by detractors, noting that she would continue to stand with the governor in prayers against the antics of his opponents.

According to her, “Do not be distracted by the things you hear or see. There are some who would not appreciate a performing Governor like Your Excellency but thank God you have people like me and my prayer group lifting you to God, and no weapon, no incantation, no fiery darts of the enemy will touch you. Because you are one with God, and you are in the majority.”

Quoting from the Bible, Psalm 103:11, Idahosa said, “For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear him.”

The letter is coming in the wake of attacks against the governor for his insistence on the use of the state’s resources for development and not dance to the tune of a handful of politicians who are blackmailing the governor to share the state’s funds among them.
Politics / *when Edo Lawmakers Were Beaten To Their Game* By Monday Nosakhare by oviosun: 2:10pm On Jun 20, 2019
Following their elections in March, 2019, the burden of expectations from their constituents was high principally because of the impressive work of Governor Godwin Obaseki who has been dubbed ‘Wake and See Governor’ by the people over his performance.

However, when the expectation of their constituents were about becoming a reality, the lawmakers, 15 out of the 24 members who are first timers threw caution to the wind by making wild demand on the governor before yielding to his choice of principal leaders of the Assembly.

The governor who, however, remained non-committal to 19 of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) members-elect kept his joker up his sleeve.

The 19 of the member-elect who briefed the media on Monday June17, over the governor’s non proclamation of the House, however met their shocker when the governor released his joker.

The Edo House of Assemly members-elect who had positioned themselves to harvest their demand from Obaseki, were shocked following the inauguration of the Edo 7th Assembly and subsequent election of Hon. Frank Okiye and Hon. Yekini Idaiye as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly where they were conspicuously absent from the inaugural sitting the same day they held press conference.

The new members-elect, before making their demands, failed to realise that there were certain process of documentation they had to go through before being inaugurated.

For one, before submitting themselves to the Clerk of the House with the issuance of INEC certificate of returns, it is expected that they must have filled the Code of Conduct form. This many of them failed to realised and started making demands on the governor.

Mr Tom Uloko, a social critic and human rights activist, while commending the governor and the inaugurated lawmakers, noted that the 15 others that failed to show up for the inauguration, were never prepared for the business of representing their constituents.

According to him, “whether they show up or not, they failed to realise that only 1/3 members-elect was needed to form quorum for the inauguration. In any case, how many of them were even prepared for the inauguration? Many of them are yet to do the necessary documentation in order to present themselves to the Clerk of the House who is the only person who knows when the House is to be inaugurated.

“The constitution says the governor shall send the letter of proclamation to the Clerk of the House who shall read it to members who present themselves. So, he (Clerk) has dealt with only those that had presented themselves.”

Another social commentator, Mr Odon Omokhudu in his message titled “Operation Puff Adder” to the inaugurated members said, a member-elect is not the same as an honourable member of any legislative arm of government “the former has not been sworn in while the latter has been sworn in and legally equipped to carry out legislative duties.”

Omokhudu said the Nigerian constitution was silent on how many members are required for inauguration.

“Most people mistake a quorum for a functional House to be applicable to a legally non existing House. It is not compulsory that every member elect must be present for inauguration.

“The inauguration of the House cannot be put off for example, if majority of the members elect perpetually refuse to make themselves available for inauguration for whatever reasons. If the contrary happens, the business of legislation will be held hostage. God forbids.

“The sole business of the House on the day of inauguration is strictly for the election of principal officers that will pilot the affairs of the House and the swearing in of members-elect as legal members of the legislature.

“It is after the swearing in and the constitution of the House that you can now talk of a quorum. As it stands now, the quorum of the Edo State House of Assembly will be based on nine (9) that have been sworn in and not 24. What this means is that the quorum required for legislative duties as at today is three (3) and not eight (cool.

“Those who were not present for inauguration and swearing in are not yet members of the Edo State House of Assembly. They are still members elect. If they doubt me, I challenge them to go to court for interpretation.

My take in all of these is that the Pro Obaseki legislators made use of their brains and lunched an operation Puff Adder on what was clearly a disadvantaged situation for them.

“To me, I score those legislators high because law makers who make laws are supposed to make use of their brains and not their fists. They have boldly confronted and defeated an emerging godfather.

As it stands now, I can bet that the others will be shut out of the Assembly Complex for a very long time. The tide has turned and mark my words they will be sworn in one after the other after they may have begged to be sworn in. This fight is going to be long and we are just in round one of twelve rounds of what promises to be a very long fight.

Paul Ohonbamu, said that the state government will deploy all apparatus of state to ensure that peace is maintained in the state and that well-meaning, law-abiding citizens are assured a free space to go about their businesses without any hinderance.

He said the warning is coming in the wake of the emergence of a new leadership of the 7th Edo State House of Assembly, and to ensure that unscrupulous elements do not take matters into their hands to ferment trouble in the state.

According to Hon. Ohonbamu, “The Edo State Government is by this notice sending a strong warning to individuals and groups with the intention to cause violence in the state to do away with any such thought. Any attempt to re-enact the era of violence will be met with the requisite response from the relevant apparatus of the state.

“Acts capable of disrupting public peace will be quelled and the necessary legal actions taken to ensure that peace is maintained and law-abiding citizens go about their normal activities without let.”

The commissioner cautioned parents to dissuade their children from engaging in any criminal act or work as agents of unscrupulous elements with intent to cause civil disturbances, warning that anyone caught will face the full wrath of the law.

Politics / Obaseki, Okowa Meet On Bendel Development Commission* by oviosun: 6:07pm On Jun 05, 2019
*_…security, economic cooperation top talks_*

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and his Delta State counterpart, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, are putting finishing touches to the establishment of Bendel Development Commission, a joint body to aggregate and drive economic development efforts in the two states that formed the old Bendel State.

The two governors met on Wednesday to deliberate on the modalities for the establishment of the Commission at the Government House, Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Governor Obaseki said Edo State was strengthening ties with her sister state to deepen cooperation around developing an economic zone using the potential of the two states in oil and gas, human capital, agriculture and unique location.

He also said some of the efforts to be looked into include how the two states can work together to improve the impact of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the two states.

He called for the inauguration of the advisory committee of governors for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to improve the commission’s governance structure to enable it perform its duties better.

Obaseki said Edo and Delta states share the longest border and would both seek ways to improve security along the border communities. He urged the Deputy Governors of the two states to fast-track resolution of border disputes.

Obaseki said Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti states, which are the four shareholder states in Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), intend to adopt a proactive approach to strengthen BEDC so the company can discharge its responsibility.

"The governments of the states under BEDC coverage area will be reviewing a proposal to see how we can jointly work together with the management of BEDC and all our shareholders to restructure the company to discharge its responsibility of providing power to the people of the states".

He added that the two states would also work towards engaging the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) towards the restructuring of the company to provide more electricity for the people of both states towards enhanced economic fortunes.

Noting that they will also work together to deal with security threats in the two states, Obaseki said efforts will be strengthened towards tackling issues of kidnappings and banditry perpetrated with the cover of the forests in the two states.

Governor Okowa, who expressed delight at the visit, said the bond between the two states, which was broken  from the old Bendel State, was stronger than the difference as a result of political leanings.

"Edo and Delta states are from Bendel State and the Bendel tie is a stronger bond than the political parties we belong. We want to build on this tie and leverage on it to address greater economic issues, which will be of great benefit to the people.”

The Edo State governor was accompanied by the Secretary to State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., Solicitor General of the state, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Rt. Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, Executive Chairman, Edo Development and Property Agency, Isoken Omo, Special Advisers and other aides.

Politics / Why We Want Obaseki To Continue As Our Governor, By Edo Group* by oviosun: 5:44pm On Jun 02, 2019
*

*_…Vows to approach court to compel Obaseki to run for 2nd term_*

A socio-political group in Edo State, Transparency and Good Governance Initiative (TAGGI), has expressed admiration for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s stance against thuggery, his prioritisation of infrastructural projects, prompt payment of salaries, respect for the rule of law and insistence on order in public places, which have endeared him to residents in the state in the last two and half years.

In a statement, Executive Director, TAGGI, P. E. Madojemu Esq., said the governance style of the state governor is not only captivating, but his disconnect from hitherto recognised thugs and brigands in the state has brought uncommon peace to the state.

“Before the advent of Obaseki, Edo State was plagued by thuggery. Thugs were openly – and brazenly – celebrating feats of amassing over N1bn (one billion naira) in Benin City. But Obaseki has since dispensed with that as the intellectual technocrat that he is. Even to the issue of traffic control. Gentlemen and women were employed to sanitise the roads, among other gains.”

He vowed that, “If Obaseki refuses to seek for a second term in office as a result of the political pressure from his party, I will approach a competent court seeking, amongst other things, an order compelling him to contest. This is the thinking of the majority of the people.”

Madojemu said the focus on road construction is commendable, as many Edo residents can attest to the fact that the number of roads that have been constructed has increased since the governor came on board.

According to him, “The other good thing about Obaseki is the construction of roads across the nook and cranny of Edo State. There is the construction of a particular road linking about twelve (12) communities. It is the road from Oko-ADP to Ogheghe Community at Sapele Road by the by-pass. The communities that have benefited from the road construction include: Oko, Irhirhi, Ebo, Aruogba, Ofumwegbe, Okhuoromi, Egbireh, Obazagbon, etc., to mention but a few.”

The group praised the governor for ensuring transparency in his award of contracts, which has ensured the completion of road projects without contractors absconding from site, noting "In times past, the reason road construction as well as other infrastructural development suffered immediate setback was due to abandonment of projects by contractors who were party faithful and leaders. It is not a secret that in the past, some primary school rehabilitation contracts were awarded to some party elders and leaders but till date, those schools were not completed and nothing happened!

“We have never seen a governor with such a score card across all sectors of the state. Salaries are paid up to date and paid as at when due even when wealthier states are finding it difficult to pay their workers. Road construction is ongoing in all the senatorial districts of the state. Infrastructure hitherto abandoned are being completed.”
Politics / Obaseki Assents To Bill Affirming Edo State Polytehnic Name Change, As Rector Ha by oviosun: 3:45pm On May 24, 2019
**

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has assented to a bill changing the name of the Edo State Institute of Technology and Management (ESITM) to the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, as part of moves to reposition the institution for greater impact in learning and research.

The Rector of the institution, Prof Abiodun Falodun, who disclosed this in a chat with journalists, hailed the governor for sustaining efforts at repositioning the institution, noting that the new identity will drive them to work harder towards meeting the expectations of the polytechnic’s founding fathers.

Prof Falodun said, “I will like to convey the appreciation of the Management, staff and students of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, formerly Edo State Institute of Technology and Management (ESITM) to Governor Godwin Obaseki and the state government for the name change. Our new name is now formal. It has been a long time coming and we will like to appreciate the governor and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto for their support.”

He said the management will continue to work towards repositioning the Polytechnic as a forward-looking, trailblazing and research-oriented institution of higher learning, noting: “We are very happy about this development. As has been the tradition here since I came on board, we will continue to work towards contributing to societal development through cutting-edge research and development (R&grin), industry-relevant teaching and development-focused community outreaches.”

Prof Falodun urged members of the public and relevant government agencies to take note of the name change, stating that the institution would strengthen the relationship with key agencies of government to further deepen its contribution to national development.

The professor of pharmaceutical chemistry added, “While we appreciate the unflinching support of the above agencies and many others over these last two decades, we assure that the new identity will push us to even work harder to realise and surpass the expectations of the institution's founding fathers and place it side-by-side with the best polytechnics in the world.”
Politics / Beware Of Greedy Politicians Scheming To Fill Their Insatiable Appetite, Edo Gov by oviosun: 5:30pm On May 22, 2019

The Edo State Government has urged Edo people and Nigerians to disregard the schemes of a few greedy individuals who have been angling to corner the state’s resources for themselves through the dissemination of fake news and rumours in the media.

In a statement, Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, said those behind the rumours are a few individuals with an insatiable appetite for the people’s collective patrimony and should be disregarded by members of the public.

He said, “They have whipped up sentiments and thrown up a false sense of crisis in the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). All Edo people know there is peace in the state. Roads are being constructed, teachers are being trained, industries are springing up and the people are happy. The real politicians are happy with the government, which has been confirmed through statements in several fora.”

He noted that the state government is consolidating on the legacies of the immediate past administration by deepening reforms in education, infrastructure, healthcare, workers’ welfare, industrialisation, among others.

According to him, “Edo people should expect more of the propaganda by these mischief makers but should disregard them. These persons are sycophants, angling for political patronage, hoping to get favours from the National leadership of the party and the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. They think that if they ingratiate themselves as the small pool of people loyal to and supporting the National Chairman, they will be the ones to get the benefits accruing to the state at the national level.

“We make bold to say that the relationship between the state and the national leadership of the party is rock solid, so also is that of the governor and his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, our party’s National Chairman. We know that the National Chairman is experienced and can decipher the antics of those scheming and throwing tantrums just to win unmerited favours.

He called on the people to disregard the rumours by these individuals and be assured of government’s unfailing commitment to continue to work for their interest, deliver on its mandate and consolidate on the progress being made across different sectors of the state’s economy.
Politics / *our Goal Is To Serve Edo People, Not To Amass Wealth, Gain Fame, Says Obaseki* by oviosun: 3:04pm On May 16, 2019
The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has said members of his cabinet are not in public office to amass wealth or gain fame but to serve Edo people and deliver dividends of democracy.

Obaseki disclosed this while speaking at an intercessory prayer session held in the Government House Chapel, in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The governor noted that he is focused on developing the state and that ploys by a handful of distractors will not distract the government from delivering dividends of democracy to Edo people.

According to the governor, “members of my cabinet are united and work together for the common good of the people. We are one. Most of us have worked together for 10 years. Our focus is to move Edo State forward and fulfil God’s desire for his people. We are not in office to amass wealth or fame but to serve the people of the state.

“We are determined to take Edo State to greater heights and nobody will deter us from achieving our goals for the state,” the governor added.

Obaseki said he has received God’s favour in all decisions taken in governing the state, assuring that Edo State will remain peaceful, regardless of the antics deployed by a handful of politicians to create problems where there is none.

“The task ahead is so enormous and our focus is to deliver good governance to the people of the state,” Obaseki reiterated.

Politics / Mayaki’s Vituperations Against Obaseki* by oviosun: 9:48am On May 12, 2019
Nosa Idele-Ogbeide

The saying that “bitterness imprisons life” is given complete meaning by the recent experience and alterations of John Mayaki.

Ever since Governor Godwin Obaseki politely relieved him of the post of Interim Chief Press Secretary (Interim CPS), a position he occupied for about four months, he has been in the gallows, manacled by incurable hatred for the Edo State governor.

He got a chance to prove himself, but he was  evidently inadequate for the job.

Although Governor Obaseki did not let him go for any personal reason, Mayaki has been jailed by hatred for two years now.

The unprecedented popularity which the governor and his administration enjoys as a result of the massive improvement of the lives of his people has made the psychological torture and emotional pain to which Mayaki condemned himself grow from bad to worse.

Come to think of it, Mayaki was never qualified to handle communications for Obaseki’s government by any stretch of imagination. His promotion beyond his competence by the then Adams Oshiomhole’s government where he was Executive Director manifested in his dumb approach to the job few weeks into his appointment, hence his redeployment, as he was not qualified to be the spokesman of any serious state government.

The highest position Mayaki ever attained in his career as a media professional was freelance State Correspondent for The Nation newspapers. With all due respect, correspondents are the foot soldiers in the journalism hierarchy, that is one of the most foundational ranks in the profession. No right thinking governor will appoint a substantive spokesman with such elementary experience in media practice.

So instead of drowning in anger and bitterness, Mayaki should have accepted the other positions which suit his experience which Obaseki offered him after scrapping the post of Interim CPS which took him way out of his depth.

Having provided this background about Mayaki, your guess is as good as mine as to why his bitterness against Obaseki will lead him to concoct lies against the governor and government he would still have been serving and defending if he was not relieved of his position two years ago.

No one who knows Mayaki and his antecedent will take him seriously. What does anyone expect anyway, as the dregs of the politics of Edo State have found a new industry in the phantom faceoff between Obaseki and Oshiomhole, Mayaki who is the lowest of them all is also trying to position himself for whatever may be the compensation for the boys after all is said and done. So sad.

However, Mayaki must be counselled and made to understand that the greatest enemy to his present joy and high hopes is the cultivation of retrospective bitterness.
This advise is especially important due to his recent public propagation of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ after his emergency call to the vineyard of the almighty God weeks after he lost his job with Obaseki. True servants of God do not harbour bitterness and hatred as we are counseled not to allow the sun to shine on our anger or ungodly feelings and thoughts.

Politics / The Real Enemies Of Edo* by oviosun: 10:51am On May 04, 2019
A lot of commentaries are trailing states in the country that are next in line for gubernatorial elections. Edo State is taking the lead in media attention among these states, perhaps due to its vast political scope and its numerous stakeholders with varying points of view.

Two men have dominated the discourse in the phantom battle for the soul of Edo State, which is founded more on speculation than actual facts. The two men are the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the incumbent governor of the state, Mr Godwin Obaseki.

Both very strong men. One you may want to describe one as the wind, the other, fire. The fire and wind adumbration of these two men mostly point to their characteristic strength but it also speaks to the modus operandi of the two great men.

While one of them will expressively move the heaven and the earth towards achieving any objective that has won his conviction, the other will summon the same momentum to achieve what he believes is in the best interest of the ordinary people but the major difference in style is that you don’t often see Obaseki coming. He is the wind and Oshiomhole is the fire. But make no mistake, both men are tough as steel.

Many who reason critically and who have interests beyond the pecuniary will tell you without equivocation that these two men are the best things that have happened to Edo State in the last two decades.

Those who were familiar with Edo State before 2008 when it was like a pile of rubbles understand why Oshiomhole must be respected. A friend once said that in Edo State, it was Oshiomhole who returned the consciousness of the social contract between the people and government. During the years of the locust between 1999 and 2008, the people were abused to the point amnesia and the leaders of the government of those days carted away the people’s patrimony with little or no resistance from the people.

Meanwhile, Obaseki has since taken excellence in governance beyond the very high standard set by Oshiomhole, again bringing more credit to the former governor who was able to spot the gem in Obaseki and support him to be his successor.

In these days of rapid evolution in information and communication technology, all anyone needs to do to confirm a claim in a distant location is to pick up the phone and call, text or email a few people who either live in that place or visit the place frequently.

Conduct a street survey in Edo State today on the effectiveness of Obaseki’s government, provided you are speaking to the real electorate who have no selfish political interest, you are likely to get a 90 per cent approval rating.

Obaseki and Oshiomhole in truth are not the enemies of Edo State. The real enemies of the state are the commentators and purveyors of baseless conspiracy theories, who are blinded by their vested interests.

Some sworn enemies of Oshiomhole have suddenly become his best friends. A former deputy governor whose hatred for the national chairman of the ruling party is deeper than that of ancient Greece against Troy now pretends to be his most trusted ally.

Another hater of Oshiomhole who almost destroyed the former governor’s political career with a malicious legal battle over primary school certificate now also dots around him night and day pretending to be a defender of his best interest.

All these enemies of Edo State have seen the beauty of the place where the alliance between Oshiomhole and his Godsons: Obaseki, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie is taking Edo State and they hope their lies and false allegations of conspiracy theories against Obaseki can truncate it.

They know that the death kernel of their politics of self-aggrandizement is engrained in Obaseki’s second term in office and they hope they can hoodwink Oshiomhole to work with them to tear down the glorious house he has laboured to build since 2008.

But if Oshiomhole is the same man he was when he fought for the liberation of Edo from the chains of former oppressors, then I am certain he will not condescend to the point of sending Edo back into the gallows by helping hyenas find the path to the Edo State Government House.

They have seen the vision of the greatness which Oshiomhole saw in Obaseki play out to perfection. They have watched how he has won the hearts and minds of the ordinary Edo people with development projects.

Some of the governor’s enduring projects include the establishment of the Edo Innovation Hub; revamp of the Basic Education sub-sector through the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (Edo-BEST) programme; regeneration of towns and cities through massive infrastructure development; reforms in civil service, comprising steady payment of salaries and gratuities and migration to the contributory pension scheme; fight against human trafficking and illegal migration and development of affordable housing, among many others.

Through the Edo-BEST programme, 8700 teachers in primary schools have been trained on the use of Teacher’s Computer in the classroom, thereby engendering the use of digital tools as teaching aid in primary schools. This is followed with the revamp of 230 primary schools across the state, ensuring that learning takes place in a conducive environment.

For reforms in civil and public service, the state government under Governor Obaseki has prioritised workers welfare, ensuring that they not only work in conducive environment assured by newly constructed, well-designed offices but also that they get their salaries – and for those that are retired – pensions as and when due.

Most of the projects, especially the road projects, dot cities and towns in Edo State and have endeared the governor to the people of the state, leading to them to bequeath him the sobriquet, ‘Wake and See Governor’ a reference to his style of working without fanfare.

The discontinuation of these legacies is the target of these enemies of Edo, who are beating the drums of war in the state and hoping that Oshiomhole and Obaseki will dance to their evil tune.

But, as Governor Obaseki has recently asserted, there is no rift between him and Oshiomhole. So, these merchants of hate are doomed to fail. As enemies of Edo’s development, they stand no chance in enthroning reign of chaos in the state. Edo people want development. That is why they will continue to stand with Obaseki come 2020 and beyond so he can consolidate on his development strides and enthroning the extremely bold vision he has for Edo State.
