Politics / Re: Rufai Oseni Blasts FG For Demolishing Landmark Beach Front by Ovoko30: 6:47am On May 02
Who told you what rufai drew is correct. Did you confirm from the authorities. Always seek facts before you conclude on a matter

motymop:
He works for an opposition TV station that see everything based on tribe

Guys kindly look at the picture below, some people said government need to destroy all the properties in the red lines to build way for the coastal high way, while properties on the yellow line need to be left because Landmark beach resort is situated there

Now think for yourself

which of the lines below in the picture is likely to create more harm and damage, the red or yellow

You can see how the red lines are all occupied by buildings and businesses while the buildings in the yellow lines are scanty

Lets be factual, it is not as if land mark building was destroyed. The beach front was destroyed to create way for a government project that will ease travelling for everyone and those living in the axis.

Coastal shorelines are owned by the federal government, we all know that.

some section of the country want government to destroy all those properties and businesses on the red axis and leave the yellow one because an igbo man own a property there.

you can clearly see the amount of damage that will be done if government destroy the properties and businesses on the red axis compared to the yellow axis

Poor people can't even be found travelling by air. It's only the rich that travel by air or sponsor those traveling

immortalcrown:
The madness is usually identified and addressed with immediate effects when influential people are affected.

If not the big name of the guy, only the poor would have spent weeks carrying placards on streets or nagging on X. But as a big name is involved, the concerned authority is not deaf, dumb and blind. That is why the KFC branch is quickly shut down, not minding how the closure will affect the employees. If the guy was of a poor background, you will hear, "Go to court". Even in the court, the judgement will take eternity.

I am not in support of what the KFC branch did to the guy. I appreciate justice. But I hate selective justice. Will the branch be closed in the same manner if the affected individual is not influential? If yes, I support the closure. But if no, it is what it is.

Bros ,they jump ship in USA but not anyhow. Donald trump was first a democrat before jumping ship to become a republican.
ifymadu:
Only in Nigeria you will see politicians jumping from one party to the other, no ideology, their common goal is a conducive party that would facilitate the looting of state treasury without facing possible prosecution.

Just imagine hearing that the Republican governor of Texas is switching to become a Democrat. They (US) might not have the best of politicians but they are faithful to their party and projects the party's ideology at any level. It's either you are a conservative or a liberal, you have an identity and if the electorate decides to vote you, they are vary sure of what they will be getting for the next four years.
Romance / Re: Promise Made, Promise Kept: How I'm Getting married to my Girlfriend Of 8years by Ovoko30: 5:45pm On Nov 13, 2020
Nice, I also married my girlfriend of 10 years , that was last year august
Decolonel:
I wil try and be as brief as possible.

As a growing child, I watched lots of nollywood movies where young lovers who fell in love had to stick with each other through the rough times, suffer together and still end up in marriage. Then other scenarios where the same set of people had to break up due to some unreconcilable differences. Well, I was opportune to experience the former.

I met my fiancee in 2012 in the university while I was in medical school. It was a journey that later graduated into a beautiful lifetime happiness. I met her among other young girls in a fellowship gathering but there was something spectacular about her. Her jovial but shy disposition made her outstanding. I collected her no along side other gals no but kept on calling her. She was very respectful, loyal and caring. She gradually captured my heart and I asked her out after some weeks. We became best of friends. We shared almost everything in common except that I'm an sanguine and she is a melancholy. But we later clicked so fast.

Later I started having issues in medical school. She never left me. She was always there. My failures in medical school started giving me depression, she was also there. She never gave up on me. She would rather stay and help me braid my grown hairs so that I would be happy. She was the only one that understood me. She encouraged to strive on and always believe in myself. I gradually bounced back mentally, wrote my MB exam and passed all my professional exams.

Fast forward to 2020, I had finished medical school as a medical doctor, started my housemanship, proposed to her and she said 'yes'. We will be getting married this Dec, 2020.

Truly, true love exists but the problem is that people are not ready to work it out. There were times we quarrelled, but we later sorted our issues out. It was not rosy throughout. Most young girls are not ready to stick with one man to build him and build with him. A responsible man will always come back to that loyal babe who has always been there for him to settle down with. You can confirm from 2Baba.

So find that loyal babe who is ready to build with you, especially when u have a vision and a feasible plan to succeed in life. Trust me, you will find her and find true love.

Romance / Re: Should A Lady Marry A Man With No Job? by Ovoko30: 6:23am On Jul 03, 2020
Say u nor get job today nor mean say u nor go get tomorrow. He who finds a wife ,finds a good thing and obtain favourfrom the Lord. I married jobless, i mean real jobless but 2 weeks after my marriage ,i got a good job. Ladies should marry potentials and guys should stop marrying to show off. Do a very simple marriage , all the time, u just have to apply faith. I just believe God has the final say. You can have a job and get married and lose the job the next day. Job should not be a criteria for marriage , just have a functional brain and dont mess with opportunities .that'sall i gat to say

Toks2008:
Well, the simple answer anybody will give is a resounding NO....but should a man marry a lady who has no job?... I guess that is a norm but wait for this...what if a lady marries a man with a job and then the man losses the job afterward?...will she leave him?.... Now you thinking...

Don't get it twisted...it makes no sense for any man to go into marriage without a job or a means of livelihood especially when a man’s potential is harder to see than the number of commas on his bank statement forgetting the fact that wealth acquisition is progressive, a continuum aided by hard work and determination...

I strongly believe that the reason why there is so much emphasis on a man's financial status as a criterion for marital suitability is because of the financial dependence mindset of many ladies on their men. In my opinion, when it comes to making money, there is no weaker sex hence I see nothing wrong with a lady who has a job or means of livelihood getting married to her man even if he has no job at that point in time...Job will always come and there is no guaranty that the one who has a job won't lose it.

A lady who finds it cool dating a man that has no job and happily performs wifely duties for him should not have issues with marrying the same man? Simply have a low key wedding and work hard together with him to build finances before making babies rather than allow yourself to be used as an intimacy gadget by the ''jobless guy''.

Ladies have equal opportunity to be financially independent just as the men and every lady must strive to be financially independent so that she can be with any man of her choice rather than marry a man simply because he is financially capable and also avoid using a job which can be there today and be gone tomorrow or financial status which is subject to change as a yardstick to being with any man.

The guy should just go with like 10 Nigerian Sans to defend himself and threaten never to do business with them. He better go to germany and russia. Nonsesne US and their yeye policies

OruExpress:
I'll make it short.

CEO Allen Onyema (Air Peace) was flagged because in the United States, you don't make large purchases without forewarning authorities. The US economy and regulatory system is designed to flag and investigate anyone who makes a large single purchase, especially if it's not purchased with credit by the US creditor. Their reasoning is that

1. Large purchases can destabilize the economy and add an element of unpredictability to commercial markets. If Boeing makes 1 billion dollars from you 1 year, and doesn't make that 1 billion the next year, uninformed shareholder will panic and think the company is declining. Shareholders are interested in measured, incremental growth, and if a purchase is too large and done without warning, it will cause panic. You are also interrupting the companies planning and projections. While every business wants to make money, a corporation is more concerned with long term survival and controlling it's resources than gain. The wrong type of gain will hurt your ability to borrow. It's important to remember that before large purchases are made between corporations, they usually give each other months, or a year forewarning, and notify banks + authorities.

2. In the US, the only people that make large purchases without credit or lawyers, are criminals. This is what the US regulatory agencies believe. If you spend more than $10,000 without borrowing, the Internal Revenue Services will be notified. They will then inquire into your earnings, your spending habits, and your source of income. If these things don't match up with the ability to make a $10,000 purchase, you will be questioned and audited. During the audit, you will have to prove how you were able to spend that type of money in one go. This applies to any and everyone. Anyone that's able to spend more then $10,000 at once almost always hires lawyers and Financial Advisers certified by an accredited board. This 'financial team' answers audits and fights authorities and investigations while you spend you money as you wish.

If you look at every major company in the US, they have entire offices and buildings dedicated to staffing lawyers and auditors because they're under investigation 24/7. Even small businesses (business that make under $1 million USD annually) have advisors and lawyers dedicated to making it possible for them to make necessary large purposes.

What is ideal in the US system is if you put all of your cash in their banks and borrow from those banks when you need money, against the amount you have. This is the #1 way to keep auditors, the IRS, and various investigative departments away from you because you're no longer a threat to the economy, and there's a paper trail on your spending.

Below, I have a risk of 'IRS Red Flags'. These are the things that the US Federal Government look out for, and when seen, will investigate with the proper authorities. Sometimes these investigations involve more than one agency and this can include the Department of Revenue, Department of Justice, and Department of Commerce.

TheSkyIsBlue:
My Sister Is About To Commit A Serious Taboo All In The Name Of Marriage

Hello Nairalanders!

Please ignore any typographical or grammatical error. I just want to pour it out the way it is in my heart.

I am seriously confused and worried about what is happening in my family and I will appreciate your candid advice.

There is this guy my sister has been in a relationship with for over seven years now. so he actually asked her hand in marriage and decided to come see my parents for introduction, about some months ago. My family decided to take their time to find out more about the guys family background as is required in Igbo tradition.

After several questions asked, my family came to find out that the guy is an Osu (an outcast). On knowing this, everybody in my family told my sister to cut ties with him and discontinue the relationship because it is a big taboo to get married to an Osu in my place . If you do, no family member or friend will attend your wedding or even have anything to do with you again.

But my sister refused to listen to anybody claiming she really loves the guy, that they have been together for a very long time and that she is not getting younger anymore (mind you, she is in her early thirties). Everybody (my parents and extended family members) tried to talk her out of it but she still didn't listen.

After much pressure and her continues insistence, my dad decided to give them his blessings, although against his wish (my dad is actually not really deep into tradition). Now the guy has done all the traditional rights and paid for her dowry. Their wedding is coming up soon.

But the problem now is, according to tradition and from what I heard, if she was allowed to go with the guy without my dad giving them his blessings, the stigma would have just been on her and she alone would have been considered Osu, since she insisted to continue with the marriage. But now that my dad has given them his blessings, it is considered that all of us (her siblings) will also have that link of Osu too. Except if she decide to put an end to the relationship and discontinue with the wedding, which I don't think my sister is ready to do.

I am really worried and depressed about it, cause I don't want anything that will affect me tomorrow when I want to get married just because of my sister's mistakes.

I will really like to get opinions and sincere advice especially from those that are familiar with tradition, cause I'm seriously bothered. Thanks!

Travel / Re: Top 10 Best States To Hustle In Nigeria by Ovoko30: 8:11am On Oct 20, 2019
FactBoyz:
()
The average Nigerian youth is conscious about hustling to make it big in the country.

With poverty rate in Nigeria increasing; ideas and innovation are abounding as people seek to solve daily problems and challenges in exchange for cash.

The business market in Nigeria is actually attractive; however inconsistent power supply has been the major challenge; with most companies running with standby generators which use expensive fuel.

However, with many Nigerians wanting to start a business with aim of making massive profits; below, is a list of best Nigerian states to hustle and make it big.

1. Lagos:

The former capital of Nigeria is no doubt coming as the number 1; this is because it is the economic nerve and epicenter of Nigeria.

The opportunities in Lagos are diverse with their tentacles spread across entertainment, information and communication technology, trade, commerce, the academia, and even the religious.

Lagos is the place where you can come in as a poor, unemployed man and still be able to make millions after some years; if you really work hard in Lagos, the chances to make it big are high.

However, for one to really hustle in Lagos, noticed that one has to be very smart and proactive with the reserved ability to solve problems and get paid for services rendered.

Lagos is not a place for a quiet, reserved hustler. You must show you have the vibe and the spirit to work really hard.

2. Kano:

The northern city of Kano prides itself as the economic hub of northern Nigeria.

Every northern city links up to Kano with regards to trade and commerce. With impressive infrastructure and roads, the city is filled with business opportunities to be tapped into.

The population of Kano alone creates an impressive labour market and target market for startups and growing brands or businesses.

3. Anambra:

Anambra is undoubtedly the most visited city in the south eastern part of the country with regards to trade and commerce.

The distinct difference Anambra has with almost all the states mentioned here is that up to 65-70% of goods imported into Nigeria end up in Anambra state.

The cities of Nnewi and Onitsha are the major cities where trade is carried out.

If you visit Anambra there is this tense atmosphere you will experience that speaks a lot about the hustling nature of most Anambra residents.

4. Rivers:Rivers is a state that can be likened to Lagos in a various number of ways; firstly it is the economic epicenter of far south part of the country.

Secondly, it is the most populous state in the South Eastern and South Southern part of the country.
Finally, the job opportunities are as numerous as it is in Lagos.

The population and location of Rivers state gives it an edge over all other Southern state with the exception of Lagos.Rivers with Port Harcourt as the capital is a developed state; at least going by Nigerian standards with many companies of international origin and indigenous origins sited there.

You must have a resilient, stubborn spirit with regards to approach to business to thrive there.

5. Delta:

Delta state is a state blessed with crude oil and it doesn’t come as a surprise in this list; Delta state is home to cities such as Warri and Asaba.Asaba is the capital of the city with a very close proximity range to the River Niger bridge which links Onitsha Anambra state and Asaba Delta state.

This linkup alone creates a very attractive business atmosphere as goods that make their way to Onitsha end up in Asaba.Warri itself a different city in the state is home to various oil companies and large firms.

6. Oyo:

Historically, Oyo state has been a major point for trading point in the South Western part of Nigeria. That characteristic character has remained intact over the years.

The capital, Ibadan is loaded with several business opportunities and the target market for business is highly attractive.

It’s relative close proximity to Lagos also plays a role.

7. Abia:

Abia state is home to the commercial city Aba.

With regards to business in South Eastern part of Nigeria, Aba and Onitsha are the two major cities with the best business opportunities with a very attractive target market.

Abia state deals majorly in production and manufacturing with interests in shoe productions, textile making, soap production, palm oil production; etc.

8. Kaduna:Kaduna state is a state with diverse opportunities especially with focus on the commercial city of Zaria.

Zaria city has been a major city even dating back to the 16th century.Zaria city services a good number of states in the Northern part of Nigeria.

9. Plateau:

Plateau state with capital as Jos; is second to none when it comes to business opportunity in the North Central part of Nigeria.Food in the city of Jos is relatively cheap; hence Igbo traders from Onitsha do make it a point of duty to import foodstuff from this city.

Jos plays the same role with Benue state citing foodstuff.

10. Ogun:

Ogun state is home to most industries in Nigeria.Ogun state is very close to Lagos the commercial city of the country; hence its inclusion is timely.Industries that deal on beverages, soap making and plastics are located in Ogun state.

The best private university in Nigeria; Covenant University is also located in Ogun state. Land in Ogun state is relatively cheap compared to Lagos, hence investors opt to buy land in Ogun state for production and later transport to Lagos for sale.

This doesn’t remove the fact that it’s a good state to work hard and make it.

Travel / Re: Clearing Of Water Hyacinth On Ikorodu Water Terminal Begins by Ovoko30: 7:03pm On Oct 11, 2019
AutoReportNG:
It was earlier reported today that water hyacinth has taken over the Ikorodu Water Terminal which makes it difficult to boats to navigate the waters.

We have it on good authority that the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has commenced clearing of the water hyacinth. Pegging of the ferry route channel commenced last week and manual clearing has already started at the Ipakodo terminal also called Ikorodu Terminal.

The hand primary and secondary school activities. Also remember there is an ongoing school feeding program. I am sure the budget will cover that too

Sir, UBEC is an angency majorly incharge of the basic education sector ie primary and secondary schools in Nigeria. I think the money appropriated for the higher level education is not enough. It takes lots of money to properly fund universities, polytechnics and college of education.
Covenant university alone spend billions of naira to maintain and run the institution.
All our universities, polytechnics and college of education are not something to be proud of, if you ask me.
It need better funding much more than we appropriate in our 2020 budget.

What of the monies generated by the institutions ,is the money meant for osusu
