I will try and make it shorter as I can, because I'm not good in English. We met online and everything was great in the beginning. We live in different cities like the four states apart, but I live and work in Lagos. Throughout the first five months of the relationship it was heaven on earth, but the horror began when she started having all kind of friends who are also members of the same platform we met, in most cases she will invited a particular lady to my apartment whenever she visits. I tried to stop her because I'm not comfortable but all my efforts were fruitless. Fast forward to February this year, she became pregnant and never disclosed it to me, then one night I had a terrible dream pointing directly to her getting pregnant and run away with it. Immediately I woke up, I called her; but she never gave me straight answer she only asked if I'm afraid then I stayed calm. Since then I've been trying to visit her but she always give one excuse or the other just to discourage me from coming as she has relocated from her formal apartment to unknown place. So one morning I just found myself inside a WhatsApp group created by my fiance with some of the members of the platform we met including the lady she always invited whenever she came around. I was accused by her of invited a lady over on Valentine day and also how I've been sleeping around. I was humiliatiated, insulted and called so many unprintable names......mind you we are not legally married yet and no convenant binding us except the pregnancy she never formally informed me. So about a month and half later after a lot of pleading and begging, she agreed to allow me to visit her in her new apartment, that makes over five months she's been pregnant that all I can see is picture or sometimes when we talk on video chat. So the day arrived I met her heavily pregnant looking good and I was very happy, I try everything in my power to make her happy and I promise her that I will do anything to be a good husband and a father and she obliged. I stayed four days and returned to my work in Lagos, we chat everyday until two days to her disappearance that I noticed some changes in our conversation, I tried to ask her questions and she immediately adjusted. Few days later her number is not going through again until about sixteen days after that I got information from a reliable source that she has travelled to Libya by road....though I later establish communication with her both on video and audio but the damage has been done . Her excuses for her actions according to her was that I betrayed her and there's no way on earth she can forgive that, She justified her actions by using a rumours she never saw with her eyes to kill our unborn kid...unknown to me when we met, she has a kid with her mother in their village and I beg her with everything if she has a kid before but she bluntly denied. This is a lady that always says she loves me more than anything and cannot trade me for anything on earth. U can comment, you can advise, please don't insult me, if you have issues with my English please swallow it like that. Now she has to work for the traffickers for over a year before she can regain her freedom, even before she can work for herself. Thanks. |

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has announced an investigation into Russian President Vladimir Putin over possible war crimes in Ukraine. However, international criminal law has its limits. The ICC is a permanent international criminal court based in The Hague. Its legal basis is the Rome Statute of 1998 and it is responsible for four core crimes: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression. The members of the court include 123 countries. Russia and Ukraine are omitted as they signed the statute but did not ratify it. Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the ICC, has been investigating war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine since 2014. At the beginning of last week, he announced that the inquiry should also include “all-new suspected crimes” committed in Ukraine. With the investigation launched, it raises one question in particular: What is the likelihood of Putin ending up before the ICC? Various legal issues will have to be addressed for this scenario to occur. For instance, the category of possible war crimes will have to be identified first. “The ICC will have jurisdiction over three categories of crime in Ukraine – crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide. “Based on the information we have seen coming out of Ukraine over the last week or so, there are reasonable grounds to believe that, at the very least, some of the charges we might see brought in this situation would include crimes against humanity – crimes such as murder committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack against a civilian population – and war crimes – these are serious violations of the law of armed conflict,” she said. |

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that if a third world war were to occur, it would involve nuclear weapons and be destructive, according to Russian media. The comments reported by the RIA news agency on Wednesday came a day after he told a Geneva disarmament meeting via video link that neighbouring Ukraine, which Russian invaded last week, had been seeking nuclear weapons. He did not provide evidence other than saying “Ukraine still has Soviet nuclear technologies and the means of delivery of such weapons.” Lavrov has also said that Russia would have faced a “real danger” if Ukraine acquired nuclear weapons. Nuclear forces on high alert Russian forces attacked Ukraine by land, air and sea, the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War II. The move has been countered by the West with harsh economic sanctions on Russia as well as deliveries of arms and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The US government on Tuesday announced a ban on Russian flights in its airspace, following similar moves by the European Union and Canada. The US government on Tuesday announced a ban on Russian flights in its airspace, following similar moves by the European Union and Canada. On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin put his strategic nuclear forces on alert, causing ripples across the globe and raising the threat the tensions could lead to the use of nuclear weapons. Putin said his decision came after leading NATO powers made “aggressive statements” while imposing hard-hitting financial sanctions against Russia and himself. US President Joe Biden played down the threat of Russia’s “dangerous” nuclear mobilisation. Asked if people in the United States should be worried about nuclear war, Biden gave a calm “no” in response. Russia, according to studies, commands the world’s biggest nuclear arsenal. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has counted 6,255 Russian warheads against 5,550 for the US. China follows far behind with 350 and France with 290. These figures, although widely accepted, are nevertheless estimates, notably because not all nuclear-capable weapons systems actually carry nuclear warheads, a data which is mostly unclear. |

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has told the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that Russian “crimes” in Ukraine are “mounting by the hour”, with attacks hitting hospitals, schools and residential buildings. Moscow faced increasing isolation on Tuesday as President Vladimir Putin showed no sign of stopping an invasion of Ukraine, where fierce fighting and Russian bombardment have killed dozens and sparked a refugee crisis. Blinken, addressing the Council in Geneva on Tuesday, said that the forum’s urgent debate on Ukraine scheduled for Thursday, where a resolution brought by Kyiv and allies would set up an international probe into violations, is an “important step toward ensuring documentation and accountability”. “We must send a resolute and unified message that President [Vladimir] Putin should unconditionally stop this,” he said. The United States has ruled out enforcing a “no-fly zone” on Russian aircraft over Ukraine after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Western nations to consider such a measure to stop any further bombardment by Russia. In a video address, Zelenskyy said Russia had launched 56 rocket strikes and fired 113 cruise missiles in the past five days since the start of the war on February 24. Zelenskyy, who did not specify how and by whom a no-fly zone would be enforced, accused Russia of committing war crimes and said it should be brought before an international tribunal. He also said Russia had continued to bombard Ukrainian cities during a first round of talks with Ukrainian officials in Belarus on Monday. “I believe that Russia is trying to apply pressure in this unsubtle way. Do not waste time. We do not accept such tactics. Fair negotiations can occur when one side does not hit the other side with rocket artillery at the very moment of negotiations,” he said. But Washington, which has promised military aid, rejected the call to establish a no-fly zone, saying it would be a step towards a direct conflict between the United States and Russia. “The president has been very clear that he is not intending to send US troops to fight a war with Russia,” White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Monday. “And I think what’s important to note here is that is essentially what this would be a step toward, because a no-fly zone would require implementation,” she added. “It would require deploying US military to enforce which would be a direct conflict, a potentially direct conflict, and potentially war with Russia, which is something we are not planning to be a part of.” More than 500,000 people have fled Ukraine, according to the United Nations, setting off a refugee crisis with thousands also awaiting passage at seven European border crossings. At least 102 civilians in Ukraine have been killed since the invasion started, but the real figure could be much higher, the UN said on Monday. |
