Travel / Re: Japa: Mind In The West, Body In Africa by Panda7: 8:45pm On Feb 29
Lasbaba:
In 1999, two stowaway teenagers from Guinea, Koita Yaguine and Tounkara Fode embarked on a deadly trip to ‘Europe or die’ in order to escape terror leaders at home. Unfortunately for these teenagers, they died a cruel death in the landing gear of Sabena Airlines Airbus before the plane landed in Belgium.

In a letter that was found in their pocket, it reads “To the Excellencies and officials of Europe: We suffer enormously in Africa. Help us. We have problems in Africa. We lack rights as children. We have war and illness, we lack food. . . . We want to study, and ask you to help us to study so that we can be like you, in Africa schools”.

Had it been those teenagers made it alive, they would not had regretted their actions given the state of the continent.

Paul Collier captures it better when he says, “development is about giving hope to ordinary people that their children will live in a society that has caught up with the rest of the world. Take that hope away and the smart people will use their energies not to develop their society but to escape from it.”

Many African youths are physically living in Africa , but their minds are in far away Europe. Their fatherland is not ‘fathering’ their future; their beloved motherland is now murdering their dreams. Many are no longer at ease with the land they called homeland.

They have lost the passion, they have lost the hope in the continent.

There was a time “Barsa Wa Bala”, a wolof language, meaning “Barcelona or die” was in vogue in Senegal. The Senegalese youths believed it was better to die on the journey to Europe than under hopeless and unfavorable conditions at home.

Today, in Nigeria “japa” meaning to leave one’s home country in search of greener pasture in foreign land, is on the gyrating lips of many young Nigerians. People sell their property; they left their parents to loneliness and longing and family to “japa”. The race is to the Northern hemisphere . The energy is to secure a seat on the next flight going to Europe. Their savings are targeted to getting a visa. Some sold their property to Japa. Their prayers and fasting geared towards their visa application. They are investing half of their body features on securing a visa to Europe. It is now a blessing and a call to celebration to land at an airport in Europe.

What is worse: most of the continent leavers are skillful and energetic youths. For a continent that needs its resourceful and energetic youths to be a prosperous continent losing these youths without addressing the underlying problems is saddening. These youths have exhausted their endurance. They do not see their dreams becoming a reality.

while you are leaving, the interview question is always "why" are you leaving" and I believe that would truly help your employers.
Politics / Re: Eket/ibeno Clash - The Truth by Panda7: 9:41am On Feb 29
On a normal day I wouldn't commented on this said topic, but unless the people who brings war and underdevelopment had a time purchase the land from the government or holds any court valid license to prove that. every land there and roads belongs to the government and the government under the land acts use law has every rights to take over any land for development process, commercial or agricultural purpose especially as long as there is no licensed, planned and surveyed structure on the said land. Anything above that is the people fighting the government of the day. No one has any constitutional rights over land especially fighting the government in doing so. People claiming they moved to the steep creeks in 1800 and by so doing preventing government development and claiming entitlement are as such fighting for the wrong course. The people of that region have continuously contributed to the underdevelopment in both the state and federal government by stalling the peace and making wars against the industrial projects situated at that location and by not contributing quotas to the revenues of the government and employment even after collecting entitlement for many years from the oil companies in that region with nothing to show fourth. Any sensible community would have join to work with the industrial companies who have come there to work and not causing havocs. As for the PIB they wants to fight for, it is clearly for every indigene of the state and not for any particular ethnic groups or people, and you cannot claim to love what you hate when you have no common love for the people from the same state and beyond. Migrating to the area/region does not make you the land owner or sole entitlement of the land or of the state akwa ibom which comprises 31 other local governments, without considering the descendents or grandchildren of the origins of akwa ibom. Instead the money would be channel to properly cater and care for the future of the states and not some miscreants and ingrates who won't add any educational value to the state. And for ijaw claiming to own the lands in the border of akwa ibom states, it is even more proper to say they own the entire akwa ibom and her people. Any one who would listen to these stories would know the ijaws are just a miscreants and peasant farmers/fishers who have migrated there to cause war and havoc against the origins and host, else you can clearly point ijaw is not part of akwa ibom but migrants who have their states but do not wants people development anywhere. Imagine stopping development that is leading to the Atlantic ocean, did you buy the Atlantic ocean or the lands you occupy?.
Did they realize this could prevents or delay the development of the ibom deep seaport, industrial city, 8 lanes super highway and the bua refinery?

https://leaders.ng/2024/02/28/more-communities-to-join-in-suit-seeking-sack-of-ebie-as-nddc-chairman/

this must be the reasons I have not seen a completed NDDC project just yet, every roads marked by NDDC for construction are often abandoned and left for a very long period of over 7 years or more, new administration will start another little project and abandon it. Billions of funds been allocated for NDDC projects outside road constructions are looted and forgotten about like the electricity power plants that was proposed some times just before 2019 elections have not been located in any site. The only fair thing NDDC does is solar street lights in unmotorable roads and producing lots of pressure.

I will only applaud this if this can make the price of gas fall to #300 naira, else the government is running a loose economic, imagine the economy a decreased gas price would have brought in.

Outside people living in abuja and Lagos, workers from other states might have no idea there are foreign companies working or located in Nigeria, do you feel this is a problem or failure of the federal government or the state government for failing to attract a foreign investment, and don't you think people working in these other states are stalken or feel stalken?
