Education / Who's To Blame For Missing Results; The Student Or Department? by Paulloveiheoma(m): 7:44pm On May 21, 2018
After four (4) stressful years in UNIPORT & one is about to start clearance, only to be told that you're having seven (7) missing results. That's my situation ATM. Funny enough, I've seen some of these results before now which I passed, so how come they're suddenly missing? (rhetorical question). Who do I place the blame on right now? Is it Me OR the department (lecturers, non-academic staffs or the course advisor). I wanted to report the matter BUT THE CORRUPT COURSE ADVISOR WAS DISCOURAGING ME, TELLING ME THAT IF I REPORT THE LECTURERS, THAT I'M GOING TO PUT THEM ALL IN TROUBLE. imagine the nonsense!!! Anyways, I still went ahead to report the matter to the H.O.D & I hope He looks into it. I just feel that this man (the course advisor) is deliberately hiding my results & that is why He's discouraging me from reporting, telling me to go & pick DEFERMENT FORM. I'm pouring out my grievances in a public forum like this because I want everyone to take note of what's going on in the SO-CALLED DEPARTMENT of POLITICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE STUDIES in UNIPORT. Seven (7) missing results for Me alone! haba!! AM I THE ONE THAT VOTED BUHARI INTO POWER (sarcasm)!!! I would forever regret entering this department because even the devil knows that I ain't lying. Majority of my course mates who did PROJECT DEFENSE ended up having MISSING RESULTS on it. What sort of miracle or magic would you call that? Come to think of it, it seems that whenever a department discovers that a particular set of students graduating have no single carryover, they'd do anything possible to hold them backward. (PLEASE & PLEASE, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING REASONABLE TO SAY, DESIST FROM THIS POST, RATHER THAN COME HEAR & EMBARASS YOURSELF IN THE NAME OF SPITTING ABSOLUTE TRASH). Let me go & rest a little bit cause right now, I'm having "headache, toothache & stomach ache" owing to this issue.

Before I start, please nobody should insult me cause I'm having serious HEADACHE, TOOTHACHE & MUSCLE STRAIN. So just respect yourselves, have compassion & pocket your insults. Now to the matter, lovely nairalanders & moderators, there's something about Me I'll love to briefly talk about. Truth is, all my siblings "BUT" Myself love football to the extreme (I don't have sister(s). While growing up, whenever there was a football match, I usually walked out of the room to go outside because I wasn't moved at all to watch it. I don't know about players in super eagles, not to talk of foreign clubs or countries. The funniest aspect of it all is that I don't know how to play football & also how to play BET9JA. My brothers & people who are very close to Me can testify to this. If I go to a Bet9ja shop, it's to charge my phone & nothing else, because everything they do that's being displayed on the computer screen seems completely strange to Me. Earlier this year, while I was really less busy & waiting for my dept (filled with heartless lecturers & non-academic staffs) to start clearance & post the NYSC list, a friend of mine who works in a Bet9ja shop asked me to come & work cause there was a vacancy. I told Him I couldn't take the offer because I don't know any thing about SPORTS BETTING. Mind you, I'm a computer literate. He told me that He could offer to teach me so I can start working since My dept (pol/ADM studies) was still compiling results to submit to senate for approval. I told Him that I can't learn it because I don't have interest in anything football. He laughed & had to go look for someone else to fill in the vacancy. Some of my guys have jokingly told me that I should have been born as a girl (lols), cause it sounds so abnormal for a guy to dislike the number one thing that guys do love so much. I decided to post this in SPORTS SECTION because I believe I'll find reasonable comments in regards to this. So my question is; IS IT NORMAL OR WEIRD FOR A GUY TO DISLIKE WATCHING FOOTBALL, NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY BET9JA & ALSO NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL AS WELL? ARE THERE GUYS HERE LIKE THAT?

Lolz...

You call someone who graduated from a tough Nigerian public university at a young age of 21 and have, for the past 5years, experienced, first hand, that employers need people that can perform and not people with a first class certificate, ignorant?

Your problem is deeply attitudinal. I can strongly guess you are among the haughty kind who would brazenly challenge your lecturers in class in an effort to show your intelligence.

Instead of faulting my argument with logical points, you call me ignorant. How many Nairalanders have you met in effort to let them see reason with you.

We are waiting for you in the labour market. I hope you will not come boasting about how you are among the best graduating students in your class and not how you can get the job done.

PS: Can you stop the excessive and inappropriate use of the exclamation mark in your comments? We are all having a friendly discussion here

- LegDoLand...give your feet a treat
(1) you sound so childish to me by boasting with your age in regards to when you graduated. Are you the 1st person to graduate at such an early age. If I tell you how old I was when I got admission & how old I am now, then you would know that you weren't supose to make mention of how old you were when you graduated. that's an obviously invalid point my fellow nairalander. (2) you don't know nothing about me, so do not conclude so easily that I'm highly attitudinal & that I usually challenged lecturers. listen brother, I can proudly tell you that throughout my 4years in UNIPORT, I never asked question for once, not to talk of challenging lecturers. If a lecturer teaches something I don't understand, I usually go make my private research & I was cool with my pattern. As for my intelligence, I usually displayed it in the examination hall by proving to the lecturers that I wasn't absent minded when they were lecturing. (3) please, please & please, do not bother expecting my entry into the labour market cox I ain't coming there. I got other plans in life which shouldn't be your business. If you're already in the labour market, focus on yourself & don't even harbour the thought of anticipating my coming. that should be the least of your worries. God bless you & I wish you all the best in the labour market which you claim to be in.

What you have, my dear brother, is inferiority complex.
I read political science, today I am gainfully employed; and I have no cause for regrets whatsoever.

if you are not content with your qualification, wisdom demands that you make moves to improve on yourself, and get more certifications and qualifications where possible.

That option is far better than coming online to rant about your woes (Who first class epp?), and rain insults on whoever does not agree with you.

If I had to choose again, I will still choose Political Science.
do I look like someone that has inferiority complex to you? you don't know nothing about me bro. if u like, study political science over & over again, it's non of my biz. before you conclude blindly that 1st class is my issue, go back & read my post once more, this time around; line by line. God bless....

Well, all i see here is an alibi, a reference point, an excuse, a reason for you not to have made a first class, or at least being the best you could have been.

First, you should understand that a First Class grade is a aggregation of all the grade points you made from 1st year to final year, and not dependent on just one lecturer or a few lecturers.

Let us do a little throwback:

In your first year, you did general courses which were taught to you by lecturers from different departments and even faculties. Now, judging by your conclusion of your departmental lecturers being the most wicked in your school who will never give you what you deserve, you should have started bagging your As from your first year.

Even in your second year when your specialization increased, you at least had 20-30% courses taught by non-departmental lecturers. That was also an opportunity to make your As

Let us excuse your third and final years under the assumption that you were taught entirely by lecturers in your department.

Even at that, if you had done excellently and are deserving of an A, the worst they would do would be to give you a B, which i am sure wont have significant effect in your CGP if you had maintained an excellent record in your first and second year. A first class will still have been possible.

Secondly, you should understand that the traits your lecturers exhibit are not specific to them alone. Nigerian universities are riddled with a lot of them. So, its a general issue.

Finally, my main point is, dont be obsessed with making a first class. It is not entirely an indication of being a brilliant student/graduate. I recently helped a "first class graduate" write an application for Masters admission and left me wondering. Your main concern should be to be the best you can be and not the definition of a certificate score.

I'm just here wishing we were having this discussion in person, I would have told you certain things YOU'RE IGNORANT OF!!!

With this your criticism of a department that you were part of, that you could even be returned to groom others in the future is a signpost that you did not deserve to gain admission there in the first place. The certificate Uniport issued to you says that '........you have been found worthy in character and in learning'. If you could be identified that certificate will be withdrawn from you. You learnt nothing all through your stay and in character you are wanting.
Political Science is not an exact science where one plus one has no other answer other than two. It is subjective and it is subjected to individual mindset and school of thought the lecturer values and holds. This is one reason buying their recommended books or their handouts has been wisest choice to make. I have no doubt in my mind that people like you would want to veer off the part to impress or show how much you know more than them. This is in contradiction to one of the 48 laws of power-Do not outshine your master. Don't you know about this as a political student?
My advice look at what you have obtained and see the best you can make out of this. Most times academic excellence does not always translate to 'life excellence'.
I was in Uniport.
YES, you were in UNIPORT, "BUT WERE YOU IN THE DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE STUDIES? WERE YOU?

Young man, prof Alapiki is an upright man. You know that. It takes smart students to understand what he expects from a student.
I don't just know what to say to you, cause Heaven knows you're definitely ignorant of what you just said. Let me just tell you this; "I once had an A & B in two of Prof. Henry Alapiki's course. those are the two highest grades I've gotten in his courses. Other ones I had were C & so on. BUT, that doesn't change the fact that PROF. HENRY ALAPIKI IS NEVER AN UPRIGHT MAN. not even when I'm daydreaming.

This won't help you. You informed us that both teaching and non-teaching staff of a department are sadists because you couldn't make first class.

1. Do you know what it takes to make First Class grade when you don't know that staff is not pluralised as you presented before us.

2. Stop consoling yourself on your inability to graduate with First Class; that's if at all you made 2.1

3. No department in the University has ever denied any student who deserves First class from being celebrated. A typical example of this is the department of History and International Relations, Ui where some graduates like you from the department have said it before me, "The department doesn't award First Class". They were proved wrong last year when the department awarded First Class to a deserving graduate after 58 years of inception.

4. Does First Class guarantees success in life? Haven't you seen or heard of third class employing First Class?
I believe you have a very high INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENT, so feel free to use it & understand the message I'm trying to pass across. Do you know how many past & present students of dept of POL/ADM STUDIES in UNIPORT that are complaining about this same issue? Is it because I came out in a public forum like nairaland to voice it out!!! It's not even about the issue of 1st class but the way the heartless lecturers go about it. when they normally do convocations in UNIPORT, almost all departments do dish out 1st class students & thereabout. It's not as if there ain't wicked lecturers in other depts, but the ones in my dept are way worse than the devil. Producing a 2nd Class Upper graduate is WW1, not to talk of a 1st Class holder. (dem no born dat person well). You write an exam & end up getting B or C, you feel bad cox you know u deserve way more than that. You see your other coursemate who had an A in that same course & HE/SHE would boldly tell you that you ain't serious, if not you would have followed the right process to get an A. how will you feel then? you struggled to get a B or C & someone would FOLLOW THROUGH THE BACK DOOR to go get an A. (if na you, u no go vex). there are other areas that the lecturers are displaying unnecessary wickedness, but time wouldn't allow me to talk about, not to talk of the non-academic staffs. Their own matter would be discussed after rapture.

Are you saying the course is not usable?
Or is it that you've not graduated after the stipulated 4 years as a result of the wickedness? Don't understand what u r trying to say.
thanks for the reasonable question you asked. what I'm trying to say in essence is that; "apart from the fact that I am among those that have one of the best results in that department, it pains me that I wasn't able to graduate with the 1st class I had always aimed for. I know that 1st class is not a guarantee to rate one's intelligence or a platform for success in life, but the truth is that those lectures would deliberately commit suicide than give you that 1st class you deserve. Heaven knows I ain't the only one complaining about this, other few intelligent coursemates of mine are also IN THE BOOK OF LAMENTATIONS!!!

Education / I Regret Ever Reading Political And Administrative Studies At The UNIPORT. by Paulloveiheoma(m): 11:06pm On Apr 30, 2018
TBH with everyone reading this post, I'll forever regret ever reading POL/ADM STUDIES at the university of port Harcourt. I just wasted 4 years for nothing, coupled with all the school fees I paid. I have no issue with the school itself, even though sometimes, the Vice Chancellor tends to misbehave by implementing unfavourable & devilish policies (UNIPORT students can testify to this), but you see the department, heaven alone knows what name I should give it.

A department that doesn't give students what they deserve & unnecessarily punish them for no good reason. I can boldly say anyday, anytime that the academic & non-academic staffs of the department of political & administrative students are beasts in human disguise.

I know that it's a norm for lecturers to be extremely strict & hard on students in tertiary institutions, but dear, that of POL/ADM studies in UNIPORT is beyond wickedness.

A department where the lecturers would boldly tell you to your face that since they didn't graduate with first class, then it's highly impossible for them to give it to you. I can mention all their names but let me just respect myself.

If you think I'm doing this for attention, then kindly ask anyone you know that has ever studied POL/ADM at UNIPORT, if the person gives you a reply contradicting what I just wrote here, feel free to come back & QUOTE ME, lay a curse on Me & also call me a BLOOD LIAR!!!

God knows I am telling y'all the truth cause I almost risked my life trying to get the best grades in a non-deserving department.

Feel free to say what you want to about Me, but I'll say this; IF I HAD READ A DIFFERENT COURSE, I WOULD HAVE GRADUATED WITH A 1st CLASS. My course mates who are close to Me can bear witness.

In pidgin; no bi me sabi something pass sha, but at least, I follow for those wey dey try in terms of academic performance. I can go on & all to give 1001 reasons why the department is a den of evil & heartless staffs but let me stop here.

"In SUMMARY, I AM BEGGING NAIRALANDERS & GUESTS IN THE NAME OF GOD, PLEASE & PLEASE, DO NOT EVER ALLOW ANYONE CLOSE TO YOU OR ANYBODY THAT YOU LOVE TO GO & READ POLITICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT. IF AFTER READING THIS POST & YOU DO SO, THEN YOU'RE NO DIFFERENT FROM THE DEVIL".

(May God Almighty help us all & never allow us to make decisions in life that we would end up regretting; AMEN!!!)
