Police told Fatima, who has agreed to be the armourer of the gang for more than a year, each time the guns have been returned to her after each operation, she earns a good reward.

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari said on Monday that his government did not neglect the remaining girls in captivity.

The schoolgirls were kidnapped from the Chibok village, Borno State, by Boko Haram terrorists in April 2014.

He expressed hope that the remaining schoolgirls would still be safe again.

Mallam Garba Shehu, President Buhari, said in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity that security and intelligence networks in the country did not rest on the mission of rescuing the children.

The President extended his good wishes to the citizens of the Chibok nation, who held prayers and thanksgiving services to mark the kidnapping’s sixth-year memorial, but regretted that the government was unable to allow participation in the memorial this year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on movements.

He was quoted as saying: “The armed forces of the country who are on general operations in the entire region continue in their hope that they would encounter these girls, as they did thousands of other hostages, rescue and bring them back home.

“The nation’s security and intelligence community, in whom a lot of hope is reposed in rescuing the abducted girls, is making a lot of efforts using backroom channels to get them back to their families.

“These are processes, formal and informal, that involve different groups with links to the terrorists, and are very tedious and uneasy as is seen in different parts of the world.

“The issue of the Chibok girls is not a forgotten issue. We cannot go to sleep over this matter. Police arrest 150 suspects in Ogun for robbery and cultism

The Ogun State Police Command on Sunday said it has arrested 150 suspects in some parts of the state’s Ifo and Ado-Odo / Ota Local Government Areas in connection with the outbreak of robberies, burglaries and cult activity.

The arrest followed complaints from residents of Owode, Ilepa, Ifo, Arigbajo, Itori, Dalemo, Ijoko Joju, Sango, Ota in Ifo, Agbado- Ijaiye among other communities in Ifo and Ado-Odo/Ota State Local Government Areas about the prevalence of the suspects’ robberies and cults.

Bloody clashes among rival cult groups in the areas have claimed several lives in recent past, even forcing residents to flee from the high risk areas due to incessant bloody clashes among the rival cults.

It was gathered that fight broke out in the area as two factional groups, whose identities were not yet known, were lurking in a supremacy battle.

Although the actual cause of the clash could not be ascertained from the time of filing this article.

An eyewitness said during the battle, which lasted more than an hour, one person was seriously injured.

He, however, said that the condition of the injured persons could not be determined as they were rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

When contacted for reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident.

He said police had been sent to the scene to prevent the law and order from being completely violated.

Fadeyi said: “There was a dispute. Police had been in the area after the incident happened to calm the situation down.

“Our people are still on the stand to ensure that law and order are not broken.”

A couple has determined that coronavirus, the rampaging deadly disease, is too small to stop them from joining together as husband and wife.

The unnamed couple whose wedding photo on social media has gone viral chose not to change their wedding date in the same situation as many others did by postponing their wedding until after the COVID-19 scare.

The couple according to Tony Matinjah who shared their wedding photo on Facebook had gone ahead to get married in their house with few friends attending the wedding ceremony.

Just 10 guests attended, the couple married in their living room.

Not only did the couple get married but they also spent less on refreshments, decoration at the venue, other entertainment associated with a Nigerian wedding.

The wedding was a simple ceremony owing to the state government’s order to follow the complete lockdown that started on Friday, April 3, at 11 pm to prevent the world’s raging coronavirus pandemic from entering the public.

The wedding was said to be a lovely affair, at least free of public upheaval.

A couple in India called their newborn twins Corona and COVID after being delivered during the ongoing lockdown of coronavirus at the region.

After arriving in the middle of a pandemic, couple calls twins Corona and COVID “The delivery happened after many difficulties and therefore my husband and I wanted to make the day memorable,” Preeti Verma, the 27-year-old mother, told the Indian Press Trust

Preeti and Vinay Verma hope the names would remind their children of the struggles that they face during the lockdown as they grow up. And, possibly, a victory over adversity for the children.

The lockdown in India, which started on 24 March, has resulted in the suspension of train and airline service, essentially keeping 1.3 billion Indians at home for all but important trips to cities, such as food markets or pharmacies.

India has 2,909 confirmed countrywide cases of coronavirus including 68 deaths.

Compared with the United States, Italy and China, the total number of reported cases in India is low, but health experts warn India could be weeks away from a major increase that could overwhelm its already stressed public health system.

Six out of 127 people who returned to Osun State from Ivory Coast and tested positive for coronavirus, escaped on Friday from the Unity School dormitory, Ejigbo, where they had been camped, THEDAILYBLOG discovered.


But the state government said that only one of the reported cases is currently being looked for and that efforts to locate the unidentified case are in top gear.

Our reporter heard that five of them were identified and taken to the general hospital, Ejigbo, where they are being treated at the moment.

Nevertheless, as at the time this report was sent, it was not clear if the state government had been able to track the contacts with whom they may have mixed while on the run.

Previously, THEDAILYBLOG reported that 127 state indigenous people had been stranded in a border town in Ogun State with State Governor Dapo Abiodun notifying his counterpart of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, of the development

According to a statement by the state information commissioner, Funke Egbemode, Mr Oyetola appreciated the help provided to the returnees, who, she said, were not only granted access to the state, but were also escorted by security operatives.

The returnees, mostly from Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast, had returned home to escape the Ivorian government’s expected lockdown of the region.

Following the record of the first death out of 165 cases in the country as of last week, the government locked down the city on Monday, barring free movement of the people except those on essential duties.

Osun State Governor Ismail Omipidan’s chief press secretary told our reporter on the phone that the Ejigbo-bound returnees were taken to the town on their arrival in the state, but were camped separately.

“The 127 of them were camped in the town’s high school dormitory and were prohibited from moving out of the camp. The government has since been responsible for their health, although their samples have been taken for Coronavirus virus screening, “he said.

18 returnees tested positive


According to data released by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday, among the 127 returnees camped in Ejigbo, headquarters of Ejigbo Local Government Area, there were 18 of the 20 Covid-19 cases in Osun State.

Findings showed that the tests of the first batch of 24 samples taken among the 127 returnees suggested that three of them were positive, while nine had tested positive out of another batch of 47.

So on Thursday when the results of the last batch of 56 samples came out, We heard that six were positive, making the total positive cases among the returnees stand at 18.

Meanwhile, before their arrival, the state had recorded an index case of a man who surrendered himself for screening after returning from a trip abroad. The second was one of the traced contacts who also tested positive.

Now how six escaped
Following the publication of Friday’s last batch of tests showing that six of the 56 samples had tested positive, the state immediately discovered that six of the positive cases could no longer be identified in both the camp and the hospital.

A list of the six cases wanted was posted on social media on Friday night, with the development causing fear amongst the people.

The list, emanated from the State task force COVID-19, included 1. LAWAL Waliyulah, LASISI Murafat, Yusuff Afees, Nua Oyeleye, Isola Abibat and Juel Olasupo. We posted their phone numbers, too.

Many of the numbers our investigator called were either turned off, or the owner did not pick them.

Moreover, Mr. Omipidan, who said he was unaware of who published the list, said he had met one of the contacts and reported that he was in hospital.

We are searching for only one –Government

Meanwhile, in a statement signed Saturday morning by Mrs Egbemode, the government said a fresh headcount conducted in the morning suggested that only one of the returnees was being pursued.

The statement reads in part; “We embarked on a headcount this morning and found out that of the 127 people, only one person could not be accounted for by officials stationed at the Isolation Centre.

“The State Government is currently investigating the matter and will ensure that the missing person is brought back to the Isolation centre and we will also ensure we trace all his contacts. We want to reiterate that any official(s) found culpable will also be dealt with accordingly.

We implore members of the public to discountenance the alarm being raised. We will continue to do everything to protect the lives of our citizens in this fight against Coronavirus.”

Six people who tested positive for coronavirus have fled from their Osun state isolation centre.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the six patients belong to a cluster of COVID-19 cases that recently returned from Ivory Coast to the state.

After returning to Nigeria on Saturday, March 28, 2020, the government of Osun State immediately isolated them at Gedu in Ejigbo’s travellers.

Yet on Friday evening, six of them fled from the isolation centre.

An official who spoke to Daily Trust said a manhunt for the patients was initiated by the state government.

Below are the names of the six persons with their phone numbers and addresses, as sent to us by a source.

Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, said patient bodies testing COVID-19 positively would not be released for burial to their families.

Speaking at a NAN forum in Abuja, Mohammed clarified that the Ministry of Health should treat these bodies because they are infectious.

The Minister said: “Coronavirus is very dangerous and contagious; there is no treatment for it yet and it is not only capable of killing, crippling health care system, but it is also going to ruin the economy.

“In some countries, they are putting dead bodies in big refrigerators, because the morgues have filled up. Nigerians should not forget that these are not the type of corpses that can be claimed for burial because it must be handled by the ministry of health.”

Thirty-five-year-old Emmanuel Uyamadu and his pregnant wife, Chisom Uyamadu, twenty-seven years of age, were among those who lost their lives in an explosion in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State on Sunday 15 March.

It was reported that the wife’s 18-year- old cousin, Chinenye Manafa, also died in the incident.

After returning from church, the deceased was at home relaxing when the blast occurred. They allegedly tried to escape from the compound by running out but were engulfed by the fire as Emmanuel struggled to open his doors.

Emmanuel and Chisom were laid to rest amidst tears in their hometown in Igbakwu, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State on March 27.
