Nairaland / General / Magu A Victim Of Power Play by peddyholl(m): 4:18pm On Dec 31, 2016 |
Magu a victim of power play Tunde Raheem Painful and devastating as the embattled acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ) Mustapha Ibrahim Magu was tactically booted out of office by the presidency few weeks after his rejection by the senate Magu, a victim of Nigeria power play was appointed as acting chair of the anti-graft commission in November 2015 after his predecessor Ibrahim Lamorde was removed two months to the expiration of his tenure Magu's achievements within a year in office was unprecedented and overwhelming and one would have taught that his confirmation as a substantive chairman by the senate would be without hitch based on his brilliant performance in office Though Magu had been having running battles with some past governors over allegations of corrupt practices levelled against the former governors when they were in office and ironically some of the past governors are now senators at the upper legislative chambers . The senate who may have been looking for weighty evidences to nail Magu all these days, waited patiently until its uese DSS report as an alibi hence the senate on November 2016 finally made Magu a damaged product with his rejection which was based on security report Magu's rejection by the senate generated controversies, reactions and counter reactions while his issue became a subject of discussions especially in the media It was later exposed in some sections of the media that most of the security reports that indicted Magu were not true afterall but the damage was already done and all media damage controls otherwise called PR in the media parlance were nothing but medicine after death With the redeployment of Magu back to his original Base - Nigerian police, it is obvious that the game is over, the corruption which Mustapha as being popularly called by his colleagues had been fighting against all these while in EFCC fought back and consumed him. Thank God it is a redeployment not a dismissal from the police and his case is a pointer to the fact that corruption has become a wide goose in Nigeria,if one is chasing it without being careful, am afraid, he may meet his Waterloo . Therefore, it is an understatement that corruption has eaten deep into the nation's fabric system ,but better still, corruption has become way of life in Nigeria and the word corruption is synonymous with Nigeria as a nation Magu, your achievements within the little time you acted as the chairman of the commission are unprecedented, and encouraging . You have set a template for the incoming occupant of the office and any attempt to deviate from it, it will be glaring that he or she is an agent of the corruption. |
