I am currently living in Ottawa. It is a great place to live, especially for families. Average wages are higher than in other cities and housing is more affordable than Toronto and Vancouver. There are a lot job opportunities in Ottawa, specifically in the government and technology sector. The only disadvantage to Ottawa for Nigerians is French. Many jobs in Ottawa require being able to speak both French and English, especially in the public sector. If you are bilingual and have a post-secondary degree, you will easily be able to find a well-paying job. If you can't speak French, finding a job is a lot more difficult but still possible especially if you are skilled in engineering/programming.

Please how about PMP or BA certification holders? Will job search be reasonable or should stick to Toronto? Will appreciate your insight. Thank you

This tread is also about how to prepare adequately to land in Canada without much challenges. I am of the opinion that issues like FRSC letters, bridging courses that can be taken in Nigeria, Flight tickets from Nigeria, experiences at the airports etc and anything else that will prepare you to land in Canada gently are very important topics.

@TribeD, thanks again for pointing me to the right direction regarding the FRSC email addresses. There are people on this tread who demand money to 'help' people to get this letter, when all that is required is a simple letter to the right email addresses.

@yimiton please when or did you get a response from FRSC using the email addresses? I have not received any response since 2 weeks. Anything I can do?

Thanks

I'm curious. Did you spend more than 6months altogether in each of the 8 countries and so needed to provide PCC? I need your answer to clear doubts on the possible application delays caused by travel history of more than 6months in the travelled countries.
No PCC required. Most were work travel so short stay periods.

whew I wish mine was this easy. So I have a completed ECA report which I used for EE. Now I have applied for an upgrade of this to the course-by-course and shockingly WES is asking for verification again from my Uni (i.e. for the BSc). They aren't asking for a verification for my MSc...just my BSC. wonder why they want to verify what has already been verified. I thought I was done with chasing my Nigerian Uni up & down to respond to WES.

Did you experience this at all? I had to even pay $162.72.

No I didnt. But I think the Course by Course is more detailed so transcript is scrutinized. I say this because for my spouse's verification, the school only verified via email. No hard copy transcript was sent to them. It took them about 20 working days to complete the whole process. Meanwhile for my course by course, hard copy transcript was couriered to them. Just my opinion

Hi - has anyone done an upgrade on a completed WES report...? i.e. applied for the course-by-course evaluation? Please holla your sister wink

Yes. Upgraded from completed course-by-course to ECA for EE. Paid about CAN $67. Got the e-copy in 24hours. Hard copy in 48hours to Canada address.

I think they contested but lost the case or they gave up. It is definitely sad because like you said the whole point really is to have a better opportunity, especially for the children. After hearing the word medical inadmissibility, i then went to do a lot of research on it and I found out that canada is quite strict. I guess the whole point is for the family to take care of the bills if need arises? I wonder....

A close family friend of mine who applied through the Business Investor route had to go through a lot of paper work on the medical of their child with Down Syndrome. I know they were initially refused but later approved. They are in Canada now but their application took longer than those in that route. In all, it is possible to get approved with proper documentation and its sure worth the long process. For them, their main reason for the immigration was for that child in particular. Please encourage your friend to try harder. God help us all.

You need $1790 if you use a Standard Chartered Bank Domiciliary account card (I paid the same amount) while I heard that GTB deducts $1950 for 2,380 CAD.

But Standard Chartered Bank has the best CAD to USD conversion rate.

Fantastic! Thank you

There is nothing wrong with being unemployed at the moment... Falsifying salary payments is misinterpretation. All CIC requires is 3 years working experience within the last 10 years. It doesn't have to be a current job.

Just get reference letters in both cases for the most recent work experience.

Thank you!

Been unemployed at the moment does not change anything, it will not affect their applications to the best of my knowledge, what they need to do is to provide reference letters for the jobs they are claiming points for.

Ok. Thank you

Hello Peeps,

Please assist my friends. Their situations are as follows:

FRIEND 1 - Got ITA 2 days ago. He is the PA and has 15years job experience which he can get reference for but has been unemployed for about 3 years. He actually runs his own business but he doesnt want to use that but wants to use a friend's company that is structured. However, no evidence of salary (e.g salary account bank statement) will be in his application. I advised its better to say he is unemployed but he believes he can start salary payments to an account now, post ITA. Wont that be suspicious? Please advise.

FRIEND 2 - Runs her own business and intends to be PA since she is younger and CRS score is higher. She is still in the process of WES and ECA but intends to start paying herself salary from her brother's firm so she can claim she works there rather than claim that she is unemployed. She has the required length of work experience as well.

In summary, is it a problem to claim unemployment when submitting e-APR? Kindly advise please.

The way you explained it here is clear enough. You simply state you were 'between jobs'/unemployed for the 2 year period and then started a job in January as stated in your employment letter. It is not compulsory that every job must be on monthly salary basis, there may be extenuating circumstances such as probation period or trial period etc. Some jobs are on biweekly or quarterly payment structure so simply state the reason why your salary was paid the way it was paid in such a way that, if AVO decides to verify your explanation from the employer, the story will be found to be true. All this can be put down in your LOE and you can attach the employment letter, any payslips available and the salary account statement showing when the company made the salary payments. If the company can also give you a letter explaining why the salary payment was staggered, good and fine if not, don't stress it. Provide what you can and move on with your life.

Thanks a lot.

When they asked for my updated documents, they asked for letter from my current employer fortunately i hadnt resigned. if you intend to resign make sure you have something fetching you some money which should reflect in your statement of account because they also asked me to prove salary payment by way of statement of account in a place where i claimed to have worked in 2012.

Please I have a question. I have over 10 years work experience but unemployed for two years. Recent job started January this year with late payments effected last month. Now, I just secured a very good job to resume in July. How do I put this clearly in my profile especially because of the 2 years unemployment gap. Also, how do I explain the late salary payments with evidence. Will just LOE be sufficient?

Very well said. Despite them being signatories doesn't give them the right to transfer monies from the business account to their personal account - though this is done very well in Nigeria; but for tax purpose it's very wrong. It means you are not paying enough tax to the government. You only pay PAYE based on your paid employment; but you are not declaring your entire income to the government and hence undercutting your taxes. This is a crime!!!

I would add that they show little evidence of them owing that business. A strict VO may ask for their tax clearance. A sales transaction to the business may be sufficient to move funds from the business account to their personal account.

The question that may be running in the VO's mind is - how come you work full time and still own a business?

Thanks to all who made contributions. It is well received. We've used the account statements for visa applications severally and no mention of tax oh. In fact we have a current Canada TRV which was also obtained with this statement. Thanks again. I appreciate the suggestions.

First, Travel and Logistics Business is a separate entity from both of you. I do not know how much salary you pay yourself from the business but since you guys are both owners of the business, you can transfer huge amounts using the Narration - BONUS or PROFIT SHARING. i.e. PROFIT SHARING FOR THE YEAR ENDED 2016. All you then need to do is explain why you are entitled to this profit sharing. CAC should show both of you as directors; a company policy should indicate that you are entitled to profit sharing/dividends as owners of the business. Financial statements to show you made profits and then your personal statement of accounts to show the inflow.

Alternatively, you can sell goods and services to the company and the inflow will show sales of goods and services and then you provide sales invoice for the sales transaction.

On the other hand, I'm just asking - did you use this your business to get ITA or you work in a different organisation? If you do work in a different organisation. I think the sales transaction should be okay.

hmmm thanks for this but it sounds complex though. We both work and this is our side business. We really dont have any structure of financial statement. company policy etc. We just do plus and minus ourselves basically. The main challenge is all our monies is in this account. We did not use it for ITA as we use our individual work place. Our plan is to use the statement and include the letter from the bank showing us as signatories and the Registration of Business name. Just confused as to if this is sufficient proof.

Joint Business Account!!! In the name of the company or in your name? What kind of business? Do you work in the business?

Congratulations on your ITA

Thank you. Joint as in we are both signatories. The account has the business name. Its a Travel and Logistics Business.

Hello people, a very excellent job you all are doing here. I have been a silent follower and this is my first post. Firstly, I must share my testimony. Read here sometimes ago of someone thanking God that he stayed in the pool for less than 24hours, I quickly claimed it. To the glory of God, we FINALLY created our profile the night of the 30th of May and alas! ITA landed 31st May! Thanks to God almighty. Thank you all.

Now to my question, we have a challenge on proof of funds. Most of our monies is in a joint business account which we are both signatories. This account is very active with a monthly turnover of about 12M. Do we have to move the money to the Primary applicant or just use the business account as the POF account?
