###HPU SUPER PLAYS### NFL ATLANTA +6.5 3Units [left]The Panthers derailed last week despite being outgained 365-222 by the Saints when they managed to march 65 yards in 32 seconds to score the game winning touchdown with 0:23 seconds remaining. It’s not often you’ll fi nd a team go 0-for-9 on its 3rd down conversions in a game and walk away a winner but with it Carolina sits atop the NFC South and can now clinch the division and a fi rst-round bye with a win or tie today. To do so they will need to accomplish something they’ve never done in their franchise history, namely defeat Atlanta three straight times (0-4 SUATS in four previous attempts). That looks a considerable task considering the Falcons have NEVER had a losing seasonal home record under head coach Mike Smith, and at 3-4 at the Georgia Dome on the year, they will likely put every effort forth to keep that streak intact. The combination of QB Matty Ryan’s sterling 18-4 SU and 14-8 ATS mark at home off loss, along with Smith’s sterling 17-4 ATS career mark in games off a loss of 6 or more points makes for an imposing spot for the Panthers, especially against an Atlanta squad that saw victory snatched late from its hands Monday night at San Francisco. The Falcons’ 6-0 SUATS mark after the 49ers and 5-0 SUATS after Monday night appearances, coupled with Carolina’s 1-4 SU and 0-4- 1 ATS record in games after Saints’ skirmishes, seals the deal. The Clincher: NFC South division teams who beat New Orleans are 0-10 ATS in their next game. Washington +3.5 4Units Putting the war paint back on again in what looks to be Mike Shanahan’s swan song in Washington. For openers, they will look to avenge a 24-17 home loss to the Giants on the 1st of December, a game in which the Skins won the stats. The win snapped a 5-game ATS series win skein by the Hogs and that ties nicely into Washington’s 10-1 ATS record as division road dogs of less than 7 points when seeking revenge. Not to mention the Hogs’ 7-1 ATS mark in games after clashes with the Cowboys. Meanwhile, the Giants return home off a road win ‘leaking oil’ like the Exxon Valdez, having been outgained in each of their last four contests. Not good news when they’re being quarterbacked by an erratic signal caller (Eli Manning) who is 3-7 SU and 2-8 ATS home off a win in division games, including 0-5 ATS versus .500 or less opponents. NEW ORLEANS -10.5 5Units After falling asleep at the switch at Carolina last week, the Saints still control their playoff destiny and, with help from the Falcons, can win the NFC South and a fi rst-round Bye with a win here and a loss by the Panthers. That may seem like a bit of a tall order but we’re betting on it. New Orleans’ home-road dichotomy has been stark this season with the home team standing 13-2 ATS in each of their contests. Toss in the Saints’ supernatural 15-0 SU and 14-1 ATS at home behind Sean Payton since 2011 and you get out drift. Enter the Bucs, who bring a balky 1-7 ATS mark in division games into this fray after having dressed up as a dog the prior game. Greg Schiano’s inability to stop the bleeding (1-7 SU and 2-6 ATS in games off back-to-back SUATS losses) looms large, as does Tampa’s tourniquet-sized 1-18 SU and 2-17 ATS mark in division games in which it allows more than 21 points. It also doesn’t help Schiano that his Bucs are being outgained -87 YPG during the 2nd half of the season – the worst of all NFL teams. Drew Brees also jumps into the equation with his 21-5-2 ATS career mark in games off a loss of 6 or less points. Pay strict attention to the Who Dats, where no sleeping is allowed in the Dome. The Clincher: The Saints are 9-0 SUATS at home off a road dog loss. |

NBA BASKETBALL (LEANS ONLY) ***BEST BET Atlanta over *Orlando by 12 Orlando has fallen to much worse teams than Atlanta at home, including losing to the Kings, Jazz and Cavaliers. The Magic have failed to win the first 13 times when allowing triple digits. Kyle Korver keeps lighting it up from 3-point range as the Hawks have reached triple digits in nine of their last 10 games through last Sunday. ATLANTA 107-95. Golden State over *Cleveland by 3 Golden State has defeated the Cavaliers during the past five times, including the last three in Cleveland. This marks the Warriors' first of seven consecutive away matchups. GOLDEN STATE 106-103. *San Antonio over Sacramento by 13 The Spurs were just 4-5 ATS when laying six or more points at home through last Sunday. No coach is more dangerous when extra time to prepare, though, then Gregg Popovich, whose Spurs last played on Thursday. SAN ANTONIO 104-91. *Oklahoma City over Houston by 5 The Thunder was on a 7-2 covering run through last Sunday, but can't get caught peeking ahead to Tuesday's Northwest Division showdown against Portland. OKLAHOMA CITY 113-108. *Los Angeles Lakers over Philadelphia by 5 Let's face it, the Lakers are never going to play good defense under Mike D'Antoni. LA ranked second to last in points allowed. The 76ers are playing for the second straight day, but had been idle for a week before last night's game against Phoenix. LA LAKERS 117-112. |

LEAN BYU Fight Hunger Bowl is played at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA and this year will feature independent BYU Cougars taking on the PAC12 Washington Huskies. Washington has its work cut out for the team against BYU. The Northwestern team has lost three matches against BYU out of the last three times played. BYU\'s one major advantage is their knack for rushing and gain yards by the fleet-footed. The Cougar\'s a ranked 6th in the nation for successful running of the ball, so if they can find openings in the Huskies\' defense, their rushing could flip the game. BYU defense has been stout all year and it is led by Senior Kyle Van Noy, his playmaking ability has kept Cougars in so many games this year and he is player to watch in this game. Huskies will be without Coach Steve Sarkishian as he has taken the USC job and that will do in Washington as they lose outright to BYU. The Cougars have been money in bowl games recently going 4-0 ATS in last 4 bowl games and they make it 5 straight with big win in Fight Hunger Bowl. BYU always come to play and is highly focused This is a Morman Church University and the National exposure is their huge way of getting out their message. They come to play, behave and win. TAKE BYU |

Am taking this play unoffically BYU +4 Matchup: Washington vs. Brigham Young Venue: AT&T Park Location: San Francisco, California Time/TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN Washington will represent the Pac-12 against Independent BYU in the Fight Hunger Bowl at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Friday. ESPN will have the telecast at 9:30 p.m. Eastern. As of Thursday night, most books had Washington (8-4 SU, 6-6 ATS) installed as a three-point favorite with a total of 61. Some offshore shops were forcing UW backers to pay a price ranging from -115 to -125. Bettors can take the Cougars to win outright for a +140 payout (risk $100 to win $140). For first-half plays, the Huskies are favored by 1.5 with a total of 30.5. Washington will be playing without head coach Steve Sarkisian, who left after five seasons to take the USC job. The interim head coach is Marques Tuiasosopo, who was the QBs coach under Sarkisian. The new head coach is Chris Petersen. If I’m a UW fan, I’m more than happy with the trade of Sarkisian for Petersen. I like Sarkisian but I don’t consider him one of the top-10 coaches in the country, maybe not even in the top 15. For several years now, Petersen has been one of the country’s top-five coaches in my mind. Washington is gunning for its first nine-win season since 2000. The Huskies won four of their last five games to finish third in the Pac-12 North behind Stanford and Oregon. BYU (8-4 SU, 5-6-1 ATS) has won a school-record four straight bowl games. The Cougars were underdogs three times this year, going 2-1 both SU and ATS in those spots. They beat Texas and Utah St. as ‘dogs. BYU is led by sophomore QB Taysom Hill, who rushed for a team-high 1,211 yards and nine TDs. Hill’s passing accuracy steadily improved throughout the season, as he threw for 2,645 yards with a 19/13 TD-INT ratio. However, we should point out that Hill’s TD-INT ratio was 18/9 in the last eight games. Hill gets plenty of help on the ground from RB Jamaal Williams, who ran for 1,202 yards and seven TDs despite missing 1.5 games with a concussion. He ran for a season-high 219 yards in a 28-23 win at Nevada in the regular-season finale. Cody Hoffman is BYU’s best WR. He wasn’t able to duplicate his 2012 numbers due to injuries and a suspension. Nevertheless, Hoffman is a big-time player who made a team-high 45 catches for 727 yards and five TDs. Washington QB Keith Price had a helluva senior campaign despite missing 1.5 games with a shoulder injury and playing through the pain of a thumb injury on his throwing hand for several games. Price completed 65.5 percent of his throws for 2,843 passing yards with a 20/5 TD-INT ratio. Washington RB Bishop Sankey finished third in the nation in rushing yards with 1,775. The junior ran for 18 TDs while averaging 5.8 YPC. Washington went 2-0 ATS in a pair of single-digit favorite roles. The ‘under’ is 8-4 overall for BYU, 4-1 in its last five games. Totals were an overall wash for Washington, but the ‘over’ hit in three of its last four games. |
