Education / Nigerian Universities And Their Catchment Areas: Sure Admission Chances by phiz12: 6:20am On Dec 16, 2017 |
According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Head of Information at the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, admission is defined in areas of merit, catchment area and educationally less developed states (ELDS). Merit gets 45%, 35% is for catchment area. Each university is localized within a number of states. Those states get 35% of the admitted candidates. And 20% goes to those from educationally less developed states. Read: What you must do before buying jamb form What are University Catchment Areas? By definition catchment areas are the geographical areas served by an institution. To break it down a little bit, we can also say the geographical areas in which an institution is located. Every Federal Government universities in Nigeria have their own catchment areas that they primarily serve. This does not mean that the school will not admit students outside the catchment area, but the catchment areas are given special considerations. I hope that makes sense to you? Assuming you are from Edo State and you want to apply for admission into University of Benin, then you will have advantage over those who are not from the school’s catchment area. To clarify further, let us use the University of Lagos, UNILAG as an example. There are 6 states in Nigeria that belong to the school’s catchment area: Oyo, Lagos, Osun, Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti. This states are given special consideration when it comes to admitting students UTME into University of Lagos, in the sense that the cut-off marks assigned to this state are always lower than the merit cut off assigned to every other states. To understand this much better, check out the photo below. Looking at the screenshot above, you will notice that the catchment cut-off under each state is lower than the merit cut off. The merit cut applies to people outside those six states while the catchment cut off applies to people that comes from the six states – that is people who are from the states. Note that this does not mean that because you are from any of the catchment areas, you are automatically admitted! Gaining admission into any Universities in Nigeria is a tug of war! The simple truth is that if a candidate from another state outside the catchment area meets the merit cut off for a course, he or she will be admitted and if you are from any of the catchment and you failed to meet the catchment cut-offs you will not be admitted.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Some Nigerian Universities and Their Catchment Areas This system is a way of recognizing natives of a locality where a school resides. This is one of the reasons why all Nigerian states have at least a University so as to main equality in access to education. Nevertheless, excellence is not sacrifice on the basis of where you come from, catchment sometimes helps and serves as tie-breaker. Students who have analyzed their strengths knowing well they cannot compete strongly with others are advised to seek admission in Schools where their states of origin is a catchment. 1. Education / Before You Buy Your Jamb Form, READ THIS [avoid Mistakes] . by phiz12: 7:06pm On Dec 14, 2017 |
Before you buy your jamb form, 2017/2018 Read carefully! But before I proceed I need to say and correct some point. Out of 2017/2018 set that wrote jamb and - 46.5% got admission, last year admission board made it clear that out of 1.5m aspirant that write jamb each year, only 400000 gain admission. jamb made it clear here I will say congratulations to those that got admission and those that are yet to get just be relaxed and wait upon God favor ,and keep checking your jamb profile by clicking on the CAPS to know your, admission status for more details read this step by step guide HOW TO CHECK JAMB “CAPS” ADMISSION STATUS WITH ANY BROWSER school know easy as you see am, Is just God mercy and strength, though some of your friends are already forming attitude all because he/she has gained admission but don't blame some cause the stress they are passing through will make them double think but that not an excuse not to remember your old friends who are yet to gain admission!.. Be humble and remember those that where with you during WAEC, NECO &JAMB. and some of you that Gained admission are even feeling too big to appreciate those that helped you in one way or the other..... Ride on !BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR JAMB FORM FEW THINGS YOU MUST KNOW! ✔️WRONG SUBJECT COMBINATION /OLEVEL ISSUES! make sure you know the right olevel combination for your course before filling out the jamb form, you can't say you want to study Law, Mass communication and you don't have literature-Engl ish though mass communication is under social science department in some university, eg unilag ..so your chance of using literature is 34% but I will advice you that if you are studying courses like *HISTORY &INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIP. *MASS COMMUNICATION. *SOCIAL WORK*,PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION *ARCHEOLOGY AND TOURISM. * LINGUISTIC STUDIES * THEATRE ART* ANTHROPOLOGY &SOCIOLOGY, kindly register this four subject in your jamb form . Government Economic Literature -English English language. reason is because if you don't have or didn't meet up with your dream course you can easily switch to another course either to Art or faculty of social science. but if you put subject like English language, Government, Crk, literature then have it in mind that you are going to pure faculty of art. *For Administration /business students kindly register this subject in your jamb form English language Economic. Mathematics Government.. with this subject you can study course like * Economic &statistics, * business administration, public relations and administration, * Accountancy, etc.. *Science Department.... going for any related medical course register subject like ..English language is compulsory for all department both art Biology . Chemistry. physic. for those going for any course related to farming practices or little engineering register subject like maths agricultural science /biology depending on the course chemistry physics, in your jamb form. For pure engineering students register subject like math and further math are mix up in jamb form so there is no further math in jamb ! don't go and start looking for it in jamb brochure. physic.. chemistry but note chemistry Is not compulsory in some pure engineering course even if u have D7 in chemistry u can still register It that minimum of D7 ooo not E8 .this is only applicable to pure engineering students who don't need chemistry but have D7 only Note: Don't register any subject In your jamb form which you fail in your olevel at all, that what is disturbing some candidate admission and if you try it then during clearance or utme exam consider yourself kick out. the minimum grade is C6 nothing more except you are using two sitting which you know you pass the other subject you failed in the other one. Note : not all university accept combination of result eg unilag while uniben, university of Nigeria nsukka, uniAbuja, accept combination of WAEC&NECO together that is to say u can use waec and Neco together... Note : if you are studying PHARMACY, MEDICINE &SURGERY, MEDICAL REHABILITATION, NURSING, LAW, PETROLEUM ENGINEERING,HUMAN ANATOMY, don't use two sitting result use just one cause is a pure professional courses .. ✔️ CREDENTIALS /DETAILS. Make sure your name rhythm with your credentials and when creating jamb profile for those that have pls kindly input the names on your birth certificate and waec result don't go ahead and use another name oo! cause is through your jamb profile u are going to use to purchase your jamb form on bank. and make sure your date of birth is correct. you can create the jamb profile yourself than going to cbt center where they will charge you #500 just go to (www. jamb. org.ng). when buying the form, it will be you going to bank with your email address you used in opening the account not you writing down your jamb password and email address to them ooo! just your authentic emails address and you will be given your jamb pin number after payment of #5000 then you move straight to accredited jamb cbt center in your area for registration and pay them #500 and make sure you get your novel which I don't know the one you might use for 2018. make sure you check jamb site for authentic accredited cbt center cause some center where banned from taking and registering candidate due to exam malpractice. See the list of registered centers: ✔️ INSTITUTION SELECTION /WHAT YOU MUST KNOW.. when filling your jamb form, you are to select one federal or state university then polytechnic institute or private university. now listen some of you might not like what I will say here but is the fact. when choosing university I will advise you to choose the university that has your catchment area in it eg Bolaji from osun state choose unilag or OAU awolowo university and his course is medicine and surgery but bolaji score 73 in the school utme and cut off mark is 77.5 and bolaji state cut off is 72.76 automatically he will gain admission in merit list while some who state is not among the catchment area must score merit cut off mark or bye bye or better still change course that if they answer you.. Read the full list here the University that don't have catchment area nor care about it is university of Ibadan and university of abuja merit is merit simple.. if you like come oyo state, merit is merit, the only people that have more advantage are those from Educational Less Develop State (ELDS) candidate cause their cut off mark is 25% lower than merit cut off mark ,eg Hammed from Benue state choose law and want to study at the university of Lagos unilag /Uniben then cut off is 73.5 merit.. then Elds cut off is 58.8 and Hammed got 58.73% he will still get it in merit list. Read full ELDS here: Educational less developed state: The wicked policy called JAMB So before you choose University especially federal government university please make sure you know their catchment area! and if your state is among them. *university of Lagos : All south west state are her catchment area . *University of Nigeria (UNN NSUKKA) : all south south and south east state are her catchment area.. * University of Benin Edo state : all south south state are her catchment area. Avoid mistakes read the full list here: when choosing institution pls do it like this for your own good. first choice : any federal government university eg unn, unilag, ui, oau. 2nd choice : choose polytechnic or you choose state university that if you have the money to go there ,why u should choose polytechnic is because if federal university no click then u have hope in polytechnic so from there u can do DE direct entry to year 2. this is what most candidate are regretting they didn't do only hope all their life in one university now they are wasting money buying jamb change of institution form. 3rd choice : another polytechnic institute or state university or private university.. 4th choice :College of education.. lastly... pls try and find out more information contained within that university and course you want to choose ! Create a post here concerning your university/course and we will help you with guidelines start studying and start moving with people that will help you get there, jamb no easy and precise next year jamb will be more technical and schools utme await you! shun friends that will distract you and stick to people that have your mind set.. to succeed. you have to sacrifice to get satisfied. you can share the post in as much it helps jambite out there. source: https://www.askguru.com.ng/jamb-form-notice/ |
