We’ve arrested 10 suspected members of Niger Delta Avengers- Army

The Nigerian Army said it arrested 10 suspected militants and pipeline vandals in the Niger Delta region, on Sunday.

The Commander, 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin City, Farouk Yahaya, while addressing journalists said the suspects were arrested during a cordon and search exercise conducted in Oporozoa community and its environs in Delta State.

Residents of the area had decried the invasion of the community since Saturday and raised alarm over alleged intimidation of innocent residents.

A resident, who simply identified himself as Raphael, said the suspects arrested were innocent people who could not run away fast enough.

He said the soldiers arrested them and labelled them members of the Niger Delta Avengers while the other residents are currently taking refuge in the bush.

The Niger Delta Avengers is the group that has claimed responsibility for recent attacks on oil and gas pipelines and installations.

However, Mr. Yahaya, a Brigadier General, said the arrested suspects may have links with the Niger Delta Avengers.

He said guns, ammunition and other equipment were recovered from them.

He said the operation was conducted professionally in line with the code of conduct and rules of engagement of the Nigerian Army.

The Army also reaffirmed its commitment to tackling pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region.

Fuel hike: NANS shuts down institutions in S’East, S’South today.

ASABA—PEEVED by the recent hike in the pump price of fuel from N86.50 to N145, the National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS, zone B, yesterday threatened to shutdown all tertiary institutions in the zone comprising 11 states today (Friday) in protest against the decision of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government to remove fuel subsidies.

NANS Zone B in a communique it issued at the end of its meeting held on Tuesday at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT main campus, decried that the hike in pump price of fuel has brought untold hardship on Nigerians.

The students in the communique signed the Zone B Coordinator, Comrade Pedro Obi, the Assistant Secretary General in the zone, Comrade Jennifer Eze, and three others, said; “The senate discussed extensively and exhaustively on the state of the economy, particularly the hardship unleashed on Nigerians courtesy of the obnoxious policy occasioned by the astronomical hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS.

“In the past few months, the Federal Government has aided artificial scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), subjecting the Nigerian masses to untold hardship from N86 and N 86.50 to N145.

“This no doubt, is an indictment on the Federal Government, a government   that has failed to tell Nigerians the true position of things, a government where senior officials are dishing out counter statements in defence of the fuel price hike, defending the indefensible.

“NANS Zone B sympathizes with Nigerians on this unfortunate and sorry state of the Nigerian economy. NANS Zone B condemns in strong terms the manner in which the administration is managing the fuel crisis and unanimously rejects the conspiracy between the Federal Government and Independent Marketers of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in impoverishing Nigerians”.

Rejecting the fuel hike in totality and calling for a return to status quo, the communique further read that; “The Senate of NANS Zone B will close down all campuses in the eleven States of the Zone starting from Friday 27th May, 2016.”

Politics / Fg To Increase Minimum Wage Soon by pilgrim11(m): 4:42pm On May 25, 2016
NLC assures on signing implementable minimum wage agreement

Lagos – The Joe Ajaero-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said on Wednesday that labour would not sign any agreement on a new minimum wage, if it was not implementable.

Ajaero said this at an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, while explaining the terms his group had reached with the Federal Government following the recent withdrawal of subsidy on petrol.
The subsidy withdrawal has resulted in the increase of the cost of petrol from N87 per litre to N145 per litre.

According to the NLC factional leader, the ability to pay the proposed new wage is the purpose of any minimum wage agreement, stressing that no labour leader will sign an agreement that cannot be realistic.

He said that since his group proposed N90, 000 while the Ayuba Wabba-led group demanded for N56, 000, government had the prerogative to come out with its own position.

“If the government comes out with its position, we, the labour movement can crosscheck and counter it, if necessary, before the agreement is signed,’’ Ajaero said.

He said that the minimum wage was a proposal based on the economic index, which could force the government to reduce its workforce, if necessary.

Ajaero said that there would be a sub-committee that would look into an increase in wages for the manufacturing sector, to enable it to be able to cater for the welfare of employees in the sector.
.
The factional leader also said that only the Board of the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) had the prerogative to fix the prices of petroleum products.

“Even if Organised Labour and Nigerians were able to compel the government to reduce the N145 Petrol price to N50 per litre, it would have been illegal,’’ he noted.

Ajaero, who recalled that the Board of the PPPRA had not been reconstituted for the last four years, however, called for its reconstitution within two weeks.

Also speaking, Mr Igwe Achese, President, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), stressed the need for the country to build new refineries.

He called on government to ensure that existing refineries were fixed, to enable them perform optimally and pave way to end the importation of petroleum products.

According to him, labour will ensure that the N5 trillion palliatives promised by the government are implemented, to alleviate the pains of Nigerians from the withdrawal of subsidy.

holyFRED:
My question iss this: How does this affect an average Nigerian or poor Nigerian?

Is it's services free or very cheap for the masses,if
yes, then God bless him but if No,

You see those dignitaries there, only them kids can go to these hospitals so what is the point?

OP pls post better stuffs or better still, modify the topic to read 'Launching of world class hospitals for rich kids'
Sounds betterembarassed

Some idiots be quoting me and saying trash.

Now let me ask you,can a 'poor woman' have access to these facilities?
Can a currently jobless nurse with a 'fail' certificate work here as a nurse?

My answer is NO

Some Nigerians don't just want to upgrade their thinking faculty.

Rather than employ a doctor with a fail or unsatisfactory result in this 'world class' hospital as the OP called it,i bet you they would employ a doctor with a pass(who already has a job) and pay him based on hours.

We shouldn't be too naive to think at times and for those who quoted me and said trash because Seun created the quote button,i don't know what to say to you all.

I'm still waiting for that time when we would have money to buy our own food rather than hope on the government to give us food.
