Politics / Amaechi Wins In Rivers State - Celebrates Victory In Church by pitakwa247: 11:21am On Apr 28, 2011
Governor Rotimi Amaechi has been declared winner of Tuesday’s governorship election, after which he went to the Government House Chapel, to dedicate his victory to God.

Amaechi who had earlier been presented with a copy of the result by Chief Ezebunwo Wike, the PDP chief Agent, said he would run an all inclusive government in the second tenure.

“We will enjoin everybody in the state, even those who ran election against us, to please come and join us, and participate in the government, because we shall run an all inclusive administration that would improve the living standard of the people” he said.

The governor further said: “This victory brings to an end the argument that we did not run election in our first tenure, as the opposition had painted a picture that we were quite unpopular and not the choice of the people.”

Governor Amaechi commended the people of Rivers State for turning out en masse, and trusting him with their votes, stressing that the result of the election had humbled all those serving in government, and placed a huge challenge not to betray the confidence reposed on the present administration by the people.

The governor promised to consolidate on the achievements recorded by his administration in education, health and other infrastructure which are key components of growth and development.

Politics / Rivers Apga Guber Candidate Accused Of Attacking Police Inspector by pitakwa247: 6:04am On Apr 27, 2011
The APGA Gubernatorial Candidate in Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia has been linked to an attacked on the President of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Peter Esele and an Inspector of the Nigeria Police Force, Josiah Udoh during the governorship elections today at Ubima.

Speaking to newsmen this evening, Comrade Esele who was among a team of observers said his team was about to leave Ubima having being satisfied with the electoral process, when they were approached by five men and a lady, who complained about not being allowed to vote even after they had been accredited.

“I said it was not possible and requested to see if they had actually been accredited, which they quickly showed me the ink mark on their fingers, but as an observer, I told them I could not do anything except to refer them, before I saw a Policeman on top of a bike and begged him to help them to enforce their right” Comrade Esele said.

Comrade Esele further said: “The Police Inspector obliged and requested to know the unit, eventually he took them to ward 8 Unit 16, and out of curiosity we decided to accompany them to see how he was going to resolve the issue, and he eventually succeeded before we had a twist to the whole episode.”

According to Esele, Sir Celestine Omehia arrived the polling unit when they were about to leave, looking angry and questioned the police man on why he was at the polling unit and not police station, and ordered him out while thugs around the APGA Candidate descended on the police inspector.

“The APGA governorship candidate looked angry and said to the policeman; what are you doing here? You are supposed to be in the station not here and he should get out of here before I change my mind, and the boys descended on the policeman heavily, and we started moving towards our vehicle” Esele said.

The TUC President said that the thugs came towards them, and while trying to escape, and one of the Jeeps in the APGA candidates convoy blocked their car and the driver managed to reverse, as the doors were locked they stoned and damaged parts of the vehicle before they escaped.

Attempts to reach the APGA candidate to comment on the incidence proved abortive at the time of filing this report.

However, the Police Inspector, Mr Josiah Udoh is receiving treatment at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt.
