I am responding to this based on my recent experience. The photocopy of the consent letter was not accepted in the state I am in even though it was accepted in another state. So my advice now will be to submit the original copy of the consent letter.
pointednose:
You mean for the US passport right?

Someone did that (printed out emailed copy) and it was accepted.

Hello everyone, Can the notary form for applying for baby passport in the absence of one parent be sent to my email so I can print here in the USA or the original copy has to be sent all the way?? Please help
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by pointednose: 5:16am On Dec 13, 2021
This response is very correct. Please take note and do accordingly. You will be asked for a physical passport photo and must be less than 6 months. If not, you will be asked to go take a new one, and that will delay you and cost you more.

All the best.
GraciousWords:

After uploading on the DS160, you still need to go with physical passport photos to the interview otherwise you'll be sent back outside to go take photos. The photos need to be less than 6 months old.

Please I will send you a mail.

Thanks
drgerapink:
If you can't get an appointment at usa embassy to notarize consent form, you can use the online usa public notary..its quick and easy(that is what I used and I have my baby's passport approved). It costs 75 dollars and done via a zoom call.
I'm not sure if I am allowed to post links here.
Just send ne a mail and I can share the link.

Thanks for the honest feedback

A whole lot of people live in Jersey but work in the city. It depends on the job..... how much it pays. No doubt ... rent is cheaper in Jersey but ease of transportation and cost must be considered. Know people that left because of rent... returned after transport costs ...$15 per trip and lack of convenience.

Please any contacts on how to get Emergency travel certificate for someone in a state with no Nigerian Embassy. Thanks.
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by pointednose: 1:26am On Nov 25, 2021
Even though I didn't ask this question but it was helpful.

I have been wondering if its possible to obtain the first passport in Nigeria and what the requirements are.

I heard that public notary may not be acceptable for the non-present parent consent (Ds-3053) form and the next available date to get it notarised at the US embassy is December 22. So just trying to figure out the best options.

Has anyone successfully used a public notary to notarise the consent form in recent times?

Regards,
Goldie10:

Hi Gosina,

You need to first book a ticket for the baby for the day you intend to fly. Then call the passport office on 1-877-487-2778 . They will ask if you have an emergency travel and ask for the ticket reference and date. Your appointment date can only be issued within 3 days of your intended travel except you need to apply for a visa after securing the passport. In this case, they can give an appointment date within a week of intended travel.

However if they already mentioned there isnt any date available before 1st december in ATL then you need to move your ticket forward and try and call to book another appointment. In addition, you dont need the passport to travel back to Nigeria. You can use ETC (Emergency Travel Certificate ) and you apply for baby's passport in US embassy in Nigeria upon your return..

Hope this helps.

I took the documents there just before 12 noon and I picked it up the next day.

I renewed my visa sometime this year, had my baby four years ago but I didn't try to renew my visa until this year. So I didn't have any rejection prior, and also thr purpose of my visa (this year) was not for the purpose of child birth.

Thanks for your help
Debbieeeeeee:

I tried replying your mail it sent me mail delivery failure I don’t know why that has been going on.
Their number is 01 279 9001, they’re quite responsive, you pay in dollars but converted to Naira , the price should be around 83/84k max when converted.
I’m guessing buying at the airport on that day of the flight “may” spike the price, so I’ll say buy ahead and maybe ask for their account details to pay into.
I didn’t ask for extra kg option because I felt it may be too pricey compared with just buying an extra 23kg bag. Cheers!
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by pointednose: 9:01pm On Sep 20, 2021
Thanks a lot for this info.

So one can only pay in their office? One cannot pay at the airport? Payable in naira or dollars?

Do they have option for extra kg too?

Please kindly share their number with me or I can come into your mail
Debbieeeeeee:

It’s $200 (23kg extra bag) payable in their office in Lagos , I called this morning to find out too so we are in sync grin

Please has anyone taken Palm oil to the US in recent times? The Last time I travelled, it was not allowed but I heard we now have Agric section at our airport and one can just declare the food one has and everything will be fine.

You are very correct.

Please do you know how much it costs for extra luggage with delta airline?

I tried to look at the website, couldn't find any lead.
Debbieeeeeee:

That market survey they refused to do before leaving initially cheesy , I’m now team Delta o , so we will be considering them again when they’re fully in operation , good thing is they’ll probably begin with an introductory sale price so it’ll attract people

I used VOA 4 years ago and there was no issue. I.paid with cash at the airport. Heard years down the line, there were issues though. But I called the immigration officer who helped me then, and he said the issue has been addressed, and now you won't need to pay at the airport cos the officer would have made the payment for you while doing the processing.

I know someone who travelled with VOA few months back, so I think the issue has been sorted now
Lochinny:
Please guys I also need some advice. 2 years ago when I came back to Nigeria after having my child, I used visa on arrival and was practically embarrassed at Nigeria when I went to pay for the visa on arrival. They kept claiming that visa on arrival must be paid with a foreign card, bearing the name of the person that needs the VOA

Now, concerning ETC, I don’t know which one to follow. We’re you stopped at the airport to pay again for ETC? Or did they just allow you pass with baby? Do you advice I go through ETC even after getting baby’s passport or what should I do? Just confused coz seems VOA is cheaper and could be paid in Nigeria coz the dollar rate isn’t smiling now because it’ll warrant dollars being sent to me from Nigeria . I need advice

It appears so, yeah.

No, they didn’t ask me for my travel date. I didn’t go to the passport agency at all. The whole passport application process from start to end was at the post office. We first visited the post office, that’s where they informed us about calling in to book and appointment. They also gave us a form to fill and bring along when coming for the appointment. My husband also filled a form online and received a confirmation of appointment email. We took that to the post office as well.

Did they ask for your travel date in order to get you an appointment at the passport agency or post office?

Hi Mama,

Thank you so much and I wish you a safe delivery.

The baby’s birth certificate was ready in less than a week but we had to make corrections to the name, so I had extra four days added due to the whole notary process of changing the certificate information. I haven’t received the SSN yet (we suspect this was caused by the name change) but another mama that delivered a month before me at the same hospital received her baby’s SSN in one week. I called on a Wednesday and got an appointment for the Friday of that week i.e two days later. The passport came in 28 days afterwards (less than a month actually). I paid for the expedited process and the express post at the post office.

Hello Mama,

Congrats on the birth of your little one.

Please can you give a breakdown of how long it took for you to get baby's birth certificate, SSN, getting an appointment for passport application and how long it took for the passport processing.

Thanks a lot

Hello! I ended up using U of M in La plata and it cost 17k in total (included hospital, physician, anesthesiologist, peds). I had a high risk pregnancy (from beginning till the end) and needed extra tests + care, so my costs were generally higher. You can also go to the U of M website, choose to view estimated bill as a guest to see what your procedure may cost.
