Eye Witness Reports The people of Effium in Effium Autonomous Community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has accused the Ezza-Effium resident in the community of breaching the ceasefire agreement signed by Effium and Ezza-Effium on Thursday 10th August 2023. The ceasefire agreement was signed at the Bishop Court at Pastoral Center Mile 50, Abakaliki under the supervision of the Chairman of the peace committee, Bishop Michael Nnachi Okoro amongst others. According to a Facebook page post by Edene Chinatu, a Gospel Activist captioned , " Ceasefire Agreement : Today 8/9/2023, let the whole world know that Ezzas have refused to abide by the agreement of the ceasefire as they attacked Okporo village injuring many in a renewed attack. "This unprovoked attack on Effium is coming after the ceasefire agreement was signed in the presence of a government representative and after the visit of the committee set up by H. E. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State to see that peace is restored to the community. "However, Ezzas has broken the peace accord, and that brings our point home, that Ezza cannot co-exist with Effium again because it is not feasible as Effium is now an endangered tribe in Ebonyi State. "It is now clear that this one is among many other things that pose as proof that Ezzas never wanted to be part of Effium but desired to annex Effium's land into Ezza Onueke", he concluded. Meanwhile, a community leader, who gave his name as Ojo Michael further disclosed that Effium people were attacked attacked while on their farm at Okporo village during which the victim was shot on the tie. They were in the farm working when the Ezza warlord attacked and open fire on the people of Effium at Okporo village. When the Ezza warlords sighted them on their farm, they stated firing at them. The Ezza people have broken the ceasefire agreement. In the process of firing at my people, one of them, Osondu Ejem was shot and badly wounded", Ojo stated.

Sports / Ebonyi Governor's Cup: LGA Chairmen Leads With Fervent Support by polycarp65: 10:45am On Aug 05, 2023 |
By the Editor. The ongoing Ebonyi governor's cup competition has lived up to its billing, attaining the standard set for it and meeting the expectations upon which it was conceived. The competition was approved by the youthful, ebullient and pragmatic State Governor, Rt.Hon Francis Nwifuru as part of his desire to return sports to its bridled place in the state's scheme. The governor realises the importance of sports in enhancing the well-being of youths and providing the avenue for them to achieve their life ambitions with their God-given talents. The competition which commenced on July 29, has produced several exhilarating soccer artistries, breath-taking goals and evidence that untapped soccer talents abound in Ebonyi. However, the most noticable development which gladdens the heart is the sheer fervour and enthusiasm displayed by Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, participating in the competition. During the opening ceremonies, many thought that it would be business as usual of apathy towards sporting events in the state, but it turned out to be a spectacle of excitement as mobilisation was top notch. The two chairmen of Ezza North LGA and Edda LGA who were the defending champions, led the arsenal of supporters to the Pa Ngele Oruta stadium Abakaliki, venue of the competition. Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali Nome and Hon. Chima Ekumankama were present at the stadium and showed unbridled passion more than the players themselves. Both chairmen even shouted instructions to the players in fists of passion and had the 'immortal' pep talks on the players, at the break. After the goalless affair, Ogodo Ali danced like a man who won lottery, to the melodious tunes of the council's band. Hear him. "We are happy to hold the defending champions to a standstill. This shows that the cup is coming to Ezza North," But his words on the competition sumarised the excitement among the chairmen: "We are happy that real soccer has returned to the state. This is the first time in a long while that people of the state will gather at our stadium to celebrate football, to be bound together and renew our bonds as brothers through sports," Chima Ekumankama was no less enthusiastic. He rallied round his wards and offered encougement, though he rued the officiating which "denied my team, victory,". "We are still the defending champions and have become the envy and target of others. Officiating or not, our opponents knew that they played with lions,". Supporting Ogodo-Ali's assertion, he said, "The governor had done well in making the LGAs come together in a happy affinity. "This competition will achieve its aim of discovering young talents that would be groomed to make the state proud regionally, nationally and internationally," Hon. Emmanuel Ajah, the Chairman of Ivo LGA stationed free buses to take supporters to Abakaliki to watch the match between the council and Onicha LGA. The move worked. The massive support helped in beating Onicha 2-0. His presence buoyed his players and he offered them gifts at the end of the match especially his impressive goalkeeper. "We are happy with this result and as we strive to win the cup, we assure the state that Ivo is the nest of talents which the state can tap anytime," Even the female folk were not left out. Mrs Euphemia Nwali, Chairman of Ezza South LGA like a kind hearted mother, supported her 'children when they engaged Ohaoazara LGA. She petted her wards even after losing 0-1 and encouraged them to do better in subsequent fixtures. In her words, "You will definitely be rewarded on making our dear LGA proud,". The real spectacle of passion was shown when Afikpo confronted Izzi LGA. The match was so fierce on the pitch and extended to the bench. The two chairman nearly let tempers off The match ended 1-2 in favour of the governor's home LGA Izzi. Hon. Uche Nnajiofor Ibiam, the Chairman of Afikpo North LGA, fumed all through on the bench. The referee was again, the problem. "This is not what we expected. A match that was meant to be enjoyed and the referee has messed it up. It is shame,". At the end of the match, he went to see his players. But the gyrating studs of triumphant Izzi bellowed not far off. The Izzi LGA chairman, Hon. Stephen Nwankpa made towards where Nnajiofor adressed his players. He saw him, coming and 'got ready'. But his fellow chairman ad friend, Nwankpa sought an embrace, he obliged and both embraced to roaring cheers. Nnajiofor quickly disengaged from him, "You know you didn't win this match. You saw what happened,". But his rejoicing colleague answered': "Bros, this is football. Congratulate the better side," As we expect more passionate fervour in this high-class competition, a call on the organisers to look at the officiating.

Politics / Salt Family Foundation Berates AIESCID As Gov Nwifuru Makes Key Appointment by polycarp65: 3:31pm On Jun 19, 2023 |
Salt family Foundation Berates AIESCID As Governor Nwifuru Makes Key Appointment A group, Salt Family Foundation Worldwide, also known as the Ebonyi Body, has berated the Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) for their lack of patience towards the current administration. The foundation equally commended the State Governor, R t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru over his appointment of Commissioners as well as other key officers of the government. It would be recalled that a few days after the swearing-in of Governor Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, the President of the AIESCID, Mr. Pascal Oluchukwu in a statement, called on Governor Nwifuru's resignation over the non appointment of key officers of government and Commissioners. Interacting with journalists in Abakaliki the State capital, the group, however, pointed Oluchukwu as being hasty and ill-thought for alleging that the former Governor, David Umahi was still in charge of the government and that he controls the current Governor. "This clearly shows desperation and a lack of confidence in the capacity of Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru to pilot the affairs of the State. "Salt Family Foundation Worldwide rose to the occasion, took a stand with Ebonyians, and vehemently replied to the statement made by Mr. Oluchukwu of AIESCID". It stated. The foundation also faulted Oluchukwu's knowledge of the legislative functions as the inauguration of the 7th State House of Assembly was yet to be done, hence, it amounted to a lack of patience for him to start criticizing Nwifuru's government. Chief Elvis Ekenechukwu Anasi, who is the Chief of the Hall of Supreme Leaders of Salt Family Foundation Worldwide opined, "As opposed to the write-up by AIESCID led by Mr. Pascal Oluchukwu, which made them appear cheap and desperately seeking for recognition. "They were quick to hurriedly criticize the governor without knowing that behind the scenes, His Excellency, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru was working tirelessly to produce a list of appointees that would stand the test of time and deliver good governance to the good people of Ebonyi. "When the list of his political appointees such as the SAs, SSAs, SSG, and Commissioners was eventually made public, it dawned on everyone that His Excellency, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru has succeeded in putting round pegs in round holes". He said. While commending the array of technocrats, professionals, and youths appointed by the Governor into his administration, the Supreme Leader of the Salt Family Foundation Worldwide maintained that Governor Nwifuru has shown vividly that he would run an all-inclusive government to make a positive impact on the people, particularly those in the hinterland. "Looking at the age of people appointed by Governor Nwifuru you will find out that truly, His Excellency has lent credence to his promise of running the reconciliatory government with an open door policy to cascade the fruits of good governance to all Ebonyians. "He is putting his actions where his words are, looking at the list of people in his Exco you will see that they are mostly youths who are vibrant and willing to hit the ground running". He commended the ongoing verification of local government staff as ordered by the Governor, noting that it would further identify with the real government workers and stop fraudulent activities in the civil service, especially at the LGA level. "We know that once the government succeeds in identifying the real workers in the local government, their benefits will be time to put smiles on the faces of the workers. "We believe that local government staff will begin to receive their salaries on time, he wants to empower the grassroots and restore the confidence of people in government "It is obvious even to the blind that Ebonyi now has a governor with a good head on his shoulder, empathy in his heart, and good governance in his mind. "A governor who seeks to reconcile all Ebonyians, restore confidence in governance in those that are led, and place Ebonyi in an enviable position in Nigeria," he explained. The Salt Family Foundation Worldwide expressed confidence in the State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru to deliver the dividends of democracy and called on Ebonyians to support him succeed.

Politics / Avoid Miscarriage Of Justice, Ebonyi Coalition Urges Election Petitions Tribuna by polycarp65: 11:56am On Jun 14, 2023 |
Edward Nnachi An Ebonyi Coalition group operating under the auspices of Odimma Ebonyi, Oganihu Ebonyi Movement, Ebonyi Peoples’ Vanguard, Eastern Renaissance Movement and Worried Nigerian Citizens, has urged the various tribunals handling the Governorship, National and State Assembly Election Petitions in Ebonyi State, to uphold the rule of law. According to the coalition, unless the Election Petitions Tribunal kept to the facts and law without any recourse to technicalities, they would be setting wrong precedents that justice is up for the highest bidders in the eyes of the people. The Coalition lamented that recent happenings in the tribunal did not inspire confidence and hope. Its spokespersons, Engineer Osita Ugoji and Mazi Moses Idika, said this in a statement on Tuesday night, urging Nigerians to pay closer attention to the issues being pleaded in the Ebonyi State Governorship and National Assembly election petitions. They further opined that when the Tribunals were moved to Abuja, the general impression was that the justices wanted a neutral ground to ensure easy access for petitioners and respondents. According to the statement, “However, we are worried by recent decisions taken by the tribunal, which leaves the impression that the movement to Abuja was to dispose the tribunals sitting for under-hand transactions and easy reach by those who are determined to perpetuate state capture. “We are therefore calling on Nigerians to pay close attention to issues being canvassed by petitioners at the various election petition tribunals, especially the Ebonyi State Gubernatorial Election and National Assembly Election Petitions. “It is on record that the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election who has been sworn into office, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru, swore to an affidavit averring his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Federal High Court. “The APGA and PDP Governorship candidates in the March 18 election, Prof. Benard Ifeanyi Odoh and Chief Ifeanyi Chuks Odii respectively, are challenging the election of Nwifuru on the grounds that the APC candidate was not properly validly nominated by APC being a member of PDP during the nomination process. “Also, the petitioner claims that the BVAS was not used to accredit voters in three local councils of Izzi, Abakaliki an Ebonyi. We do not know how the learned Justices would handle the matter, but our concern is that the rule of law should be upheld to avoid a miscarriage of justice. As the saying goes, parties to every suit in court know the facts and the truth, it is the judge that is on trial." The Coalition expressed displeasure over the inexplicable dismissal of the petition filed by the Labour Party candidate for the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Dr. Eze Emmanuel Eze, by the Tribunal, last Friday. It also decried alleged reports that the Tribunal’s secretary was programmed to backdate the All Progressives Congress Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South, Engr David Umahi’s response to Senator Michael Amah Nnachi’s petition, which was allegedly filed outside of time. The Coalition observed that the hasty dismissal of the LP candidate’s petition suggested a pre-arranged verdict to rubbish a credible petition against the electoral heist in Ebonyi as well as a tactical move to demoralise the petitioners.

Polycarp Sola-Abakaliki A nongovernmental organization, the Salt Family Foundation, has warned the Association of Ebonyi indigenes socio-cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) to stop raising unnecessary tension in the State. AEISCID, in a press statement issued by its President, Mr Pascal Oluchukwu had called for the resignation of the Ebonyi State Governor, R.t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for lack of competence. AIESCID also alleged that former Governor David Umahi is controlling the current Governor, saying that Umahi was spotted while inspecting ongoing projects in the State after his handing over to a new government. Reacting to the press statement, the chief supreme leader of the Salt Family Foundation, Mr Anasi Alvis described it as pathetic that a group whose interest is to protect the people is misleading them. "It is pathetic to however say that a group that presents itself as a nonpolitical organization working for the interest of Ebonyians in the diaspora is dabbling into the shady politics of disorganizing a new government that has come to give a breeze of fresh air to the good people of Ebonyi". he said. Alvis further noted that the appointment of special assistants by the governor on security is a welcome development as the people of the State have bestowed their trust in Governor Nwifuru to deliver his mandate and would not be stampede into appointing Commissioners against the law. "As a lawmaker, the Governor fully understands the principle of separation of power as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and will at the fullness of time and in full constitution of the legislative arm of government, send names of his Commissioner nominees and other appointees to the House of Assembly for screening and possible confirmation "Therefore, Mr. Pascal Oluchukwu and his association of rabble-rousers and interlopers should desist from creating unnecessary tension in the State by dishing out malicious information against a government that is duly in charge of its affairs and is prepared to deliver good governance to the Ebonyi people". He added. He called on the Ebonyi people to continue showing love and support for Governor Nwifuru to succeed, while reassuring them of their support for his government. "We urge the good people of Ebonyi State to continue to show love and support for the new government and to be patient as good things take time to manifest, and a new government would require time to unveil its plans and policies for them. "Salt Family Foundation as a nongovernmental organization is committed to ensuring the welfare of the good people of Ebonyi State and therefore supports the good intentions of the current State Governor, R.t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to provide a better life for all Ebonyians". it stated.

"We called her (Ibe Odinaka) and she refused coming, I went to her and she refused, I asked her to follow me to my class and told her to kneel down but she refused, I then flogged her to make her obey but she started fighting me that my class mates had to help me. "She went and reported me to my maths teacher who laid me on the table and flogged me, he gave her 500 naira to buy ken for him to flog me "He gave me seventeen strokes and flogged other students who refused to hold me. We got to the principals office and she gave us twelve strokes of ken and labor. "She asked us to apologize to the girl which we did, my mother saw the beaten on me and she was not happy, she called the principal to explain but she stops her calls. Polycarp Sola-Abakaliki The lawmaker representing Abakaliki south state constituency, Mr Joseph Ununu has reportedly engaged in a fight with the management of the Abakaliki rice mill over his alleged involvement in rice fraud at the company. Ununu, a 2 term former chairman of the rice mill company, in the early hours of the day hard resisted a team of taskforce during a routine check on the activities of individuals who are selling rice with bad scale. The lawmaker allegedly threatened to remove the incumbent chairman who was duly elected, when he eventually becomes a deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly. Trouble started when Mrs Nnena Ununu), one of the wives of the lawmaker was discovered to have imposed illegal levies on women's wing as their leader and encouraged them to use the bad scale for customers. She boasted that the rice mill chairman would do nothing to stop her because of the protection of her husband, and when the team of taskforce arrived at her shop, she called the lawmaker who came with a team of thugs and dispersed them. According to an Eye witness (Name withheld) "On the 13th of March, it was discovered that Mrs Nnena Ununu, the wife of the Honorable member representing Abakaliki south, who happens to be the head of the market women imposed an unauthorized levy on them. "She asked them to pay the money forcefully to amend their scale, by making sure that anybody who is coming to buy rice in Line C buys 17 kg instead of the 25 kg standard measurement. "When it got to the attention of the rice mill chairman, he swung into action and dissolved the executives of the union and told her not to pilot the affairs, he then appointed a 7-man committee to confiscate those adjusted scales." She said. Mr Linus Obeji, the chairman of the rice mill company who confirmed the incident described it as unfortunate, that a former chairman of the company who is now a lawmaker would abandon his legislative function to encourage his wife who allegedly sponsored the bad practice and create bad image for the State. "We summoned all the market women and told them that such evil cannot prevail in Abakaliki rice mill, that we are determined to make things right. "Nobody whatever, no matter how highly placed you are can do such evil against the people of the rice mill, against our customers, and the government of Ebonyi State who stands against corruption. "Today, the committee went to confiscate those adjusted scales and were attacked by Chidinma Ununu, (daughter of the lawmaker) who took the phone of the pressmen that came to Cover the event. "The wife immediately called her husband who came with his boys and chased them out, bragging that he would use his gun and kill anyone that comes to his shop. "He said he has institutionalized the practice and no one can stop him, he fought them, the question is, is he now the owner of the rice mill or has he left legislative function to impose himself on us, he should leave us alone". Obeji said. Speaking with our reporter, the chairman of the task force committee, Mr. Chikodili Ibe, other members, Mrs. Ann Nwofenyi and Fidelia Nwam, condemned the lawmaker's action and appealed to the State Government to caution him to leave the rice mill company and focus on his legislative functions. "We are begging His Excellency Engr David Nweze Umahi to warn Nnena and Joseph Ununu to leave the rice mill and focus on his job, let him allow us to run the business and satisfy our customers, Abakaliki rice mill does not need any fraud against our customers," they appealed. During the incident, the lawmaker maintained that he is in charge of the rice mill and that the chairman is too small to contend with him. Nairaland / General / "Embrace New Metering Opportunity"-----eedc Urges Customers by polycarp65: 5:55pm On May 13, 2023 |
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has urged its customers to embrace the new metering system aimed at checking complaints of estimated billings and related issues. Mr Emeka Eze, the Head, Corporate Communications of EEDC gave the urge in Abakaliki during its one-day customer engagement programme aimed at "feeling the pulse of customers". Eze said that unmetered customers contest every electricity bill sent to them even those that are low. "The regulator has introduced a new metering system called the meter asset provider to close the metering gap existing in the sector. "This system allows third party business organisations to supply metres for customers' usage which they would pay for. "Paying for the meter does not mean that the customers would be losing the money as they would be reimbursed over a stipulated period. "This reimbursement will not be in form of cash but as energy and we urge the customers to take advantage of this opportunity. He noted that the regulator allows EDDC to use the average consumption rate within six months to one year, to make necessary adjustments. "We allow customers to recharge over a period and the adjustments would be made. "Most customers are not aware of this opportunity and that necessitated the aggressive enlightenment programmes carried out in this regard. Eze assured customers of the company's unwaivering commitment to provide adequate services to them as they were the reason for its continued stay in business. Mr Cyprain Nwankwegu, the Business Manager of EEDC, Abakaliki district appreciated the customers presence at the programme and equally assured them of quality service always. "This engagement provides customers, an opportunity of drawing our attention to their complaints while appreciating our services. He noted that customers feel at ease when they are provided with meters though many still complain of high bills even with installation of meters. "They are however, yet to realise that electricity distribution companies run a multi year tariff order policy, regulated by the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission". Mr Leonard Obijiofor, an electricity consumer in Abakaliki, urged the EEDC to check the activities of its adhoc staff who disconnect power supplies to various homes without providing necessary services. Customers laid several complaints, ranging from estimated billing, poor power supply, non-availability of metres among others.

Politics / "Nwifuru Will Govern Well, He Is A Symbol Of Ebonyi Unity"---nweze by polycarp65: 4:35pm On Apr 08, 2023 |
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state, Chief Chaka Nweze has said that the state's Governor Elect, Rt.Hon Francis Nwifuru will govern the state well as he was a symbol of unity. Nweze, the Pioneer Secretary of the APC in Ebonyi, said that Nwifuru will replicate Governor David Umahi's strides because he had been part of the divine mandate adminstration which has revolutionalised the state since coming on board in 2015. The Chairman of the APC campaign council for the 2023 elections in Ohaozara Local Government Area, said that Nwufuru had grown under Umahi's tutulage to understand what should be done to continue moving the state forward. "Nwifuru emerged like Umahi in 2015 when the people shunned clannish and other primordial sentiments to vote for equity and sustain the unity of the state. "The izzi and Ezza people wholly supported Umahi despite the fact that their sons contested the governorship seat in 2015. "The same thing has happened in 2023 when the people of the south zone and the Ezza people voted for Nwifuru despite the fact that their sons contested against him. "This shows that the threshold of unity which has been firmly embedded with his victory will guide him in projecting Ebonyi higher in the comity of states,". The Former Executive and subsequently Caretaker Chairman of Ohazara LGA of the state noted that Nwifuru has been part of the state's governance since 2011 and understands its dynamics and complexities. "He has presided over the most peaceful House of Assembly in the state since 2015 and maintained an impeccable relationship with the executive arm of government. "He has been an ardent apostle of Governor David Umahi and understands the intricacies of implementing governmental programmes and policies. "Ebonyi is extremely lucky to have a worthy successor to Governor Umahi and it is evidently clear that the coming days would be good,". The Former Vice Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) then urged the citizens of the state to translate the massive vote-support they offered to Nwifuru, into practical collaboration to enable him succeed in office. "Those presently in court against his mandate should withdraw such immediately and join hands with his administration to take the state higher. "Those who didn't support the equity cause should have a rethink and realise that such was in the overall interest of the state even generations unborn. "Religious leaders and other segments of the state's existence should pray for Nwifuru and that God should give him wisdom and grace to effectively steer the ship to make Ebonyi a model and realise the dreams of our founding fathers,".

Supporters, friends, and well-wishers came out en mass awaiting the certification of the governor-elect and his deputy, at the INEC office in Abakaliki, while dances and Jubilations trail his victory at the polls. Nwifuru is the speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC at the just conducted elections, a northern Ebonyi man of Izzi extraction who hitherto could not produce a governor until now, this has made him a historic figure in State politics. The governor-elect, a young and energetic man is seen by many as a child of destiny, this is due to his varied experience in life as a common person which is now divinely elevated to the office of the number one citizen of a state. He's no doubt exposed to the downtrodden, this perhaps explains why he's celebrated as a people's Mandate based on equity, fairness, and justice, coupled with his capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy to all Ebonyi people. Earlier in his acceptance speech, the governor-elect assured both his supporters and opposition party members that he would run a youthful and all-inclusive Government to accommodate everyone in his bid to take the State to another level. Politics / PDP Rejects Guber, House Of Assembly Elections Outcome In Ebonyi by polycarp65: 4:13pm On Mar 23, 2023 |
Polycarp Sola-Abakaliki The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has rejected the outcome of the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in the State. Chairman of the party, Barrister Ifeanyi Nworie said at a press conference which was held today at the party's campaign office in Abakaliki that the process was marred with violence and irregularities. "Gentlemen of the press, it is obvious that what happened on the 18th was a melodramatic replay of what happened during the Presidential/National Assembly Election of 25th February 2023. "We wish to hereby state categorically and unequivocally that the APC perfected a pre-determined charade in collaboration with INEC and announced concocted results, which were condemnable and unacceptable to us. "INEC never acquitted itself creditably with patriotism and the high sense of responsibility expected of it," he said. Nworie, further maintained that the Gubernatorial Candidate of the party in the State, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii had won the election but the upturning of the results by INEC in collaboration with the All Progressives Congress APC in the State. "We unflinchingly state that our candidate was duly elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast in the election for the office of the Governor of Ebonyi State". he added. According to him, the APC had unleashed violence on opposition political parties in the State, while recounting the gruesome murder of some of the party faithful and the destruction of properties before, and on election day. "Our opponents in APC resorted to electoral manipulations, violence, killings, and the desecration of electoral rules. In Ezza North LGA, the Chairman of PDP in the Council Area was murdered by elements believed to be APC thugs on election day. "The same thing happened in Onicha Igboeze, where a PDP agent was shot dead in similar circumstances. We note that in the build-up to the commencement of electioneering campaigns in the country. "The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stripped the opposition of a level playing field by denying them campaign venues, generated and unleashed multiple modes of conflict and sporadic attacks determinedly perpetrated to perfect disruptions, violence, vandalism, snatching of electoral materials, voter intimidation and suppression, manipulations of results and a plethora of fraudulent practices during the elections". Nworie explained. He called on the security agencies to release PDP faithful in their custody allegedly arrested on the order of the State Governor, Engr David Nweze Umahi.

The protesters said the materials that were meant for the polling unit were destroyed by suspects allegedly sponsored by the State Government, against their right to vote for their preferred Candidate. Omege ward is the polling unit of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Gubernatorial candidate in the State, Professor Ifeanyi Bernard Odoh who has faced several attacks before election day. According to an Eye witness, the suspects who came to the polling unit shot sporadically and injured three people who are currently at the hospital and destroyed the BVAS machine. Mr. Nwafor Benjamin, an APGA ward agent for the ward said it was an unfortunate situation as it has deprived the people of the right to Vote. "What happened here is very unfortunate and it has never happened in Omege ward before, our youths and the civil defense men accompanied the materials from the local government to the polling unit. "On reaching here, people were waiting for INEC to bring out the materials, unknown to us, some Ebubeagu people came down from a bike with pump action and started shooting and injured three people. "One of them rushed to where INEC officials kept the materials and brought out sensitive items like the BVAS and register and started shooting to scare people away before burning the BVAS". he said. Another witness who spoke anonymously regretted that the election materials were destroyed and consequently denied them the right to vote. "We have been here since morning to vote but they have destroyed our materials, all the women are here to vote, we need to vote it is our right". she added.
