ROMOUR—POLYIBADAN MAY GO ON STRIKE

There has been rumour among the students of the Polytechnic, Ibadan that the institution may go on strike at any time from now because of unpaid salaries for lecturers, making them to threaten students to pay their school fee as soon as possible to avoid been sent out of the lecturer room.

This is a trend in all the department that whosoever does not pay school fees as soon as possible will not be allowed to receive lectures and may have problem of getting late results after the examination.

Disheartingly, it was reported that the lecturers are no more paid by the government, but by the school management and it is clearly known that the only source of income for the school is the tuition fee paid by students, but, according to the information we gathered, not up to average number of the students have been able to pay their second semester school fee. As a result of this, students have been instructed to pay their school fee, without which they will not be allowed to receive lectures.

THE POLYTECHNIC OF LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ROBBERS

“Had we known, we should have appear for state universities and study our desirable courses”. Obviously, this is the students’ trance of the polytechnic, Ibadan, whenever they are told to pay any amount of money.

Reasoning with logicality, many of the students in the school came from average families, where spending huge amount of money is limited, due to the financial capability of their parents. The students are unaware of the humongous extortation in the school when they are aspirant. Certainly, if they know they would have applied for state, private and uncompetitive federal universities to study their course of choice. Unfortunately for them, they run away for sickness and meet death on the way.

The Polytechnic, Ibadan allure the students with her respected name and the meager tuition fees, but, however, those alluring criteria for choosing her by the students will go to oblivion when the extortation begin, the joy of student will elapse before the authorized date, and the estate mood of the students will be a history. In the Polytechnic, Ibadan, you will pay for something and see no changes. The students annually pay for Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi) but the reach and strength of the said Wi-Fi is limited. You cannot browse with the school Wi-Fi with 35legs count interval to the school central library or ICT center, where the use of your paid ICT center is situated.

More so, students pay for health fee annually, but when a student is sick and go to the medical center, they will only give the student paracetamol, while having malaria. In fact, the money paid by student always have wings to fly away. On what account or merriment can ongoing students pay #5,000 each, on convocation. Who will ask for it?

This article is not writing by sentiment, but based on what I have seen in the polytechnic, Ibadan.

It has been argued several times in the school, about the best faculty in the school, but no one or faculty has emerged as the best but the recent development in one faculty is worthy of emulation by other faculties, if they want the students under their tutelages to see beyond what they are taught in the institution.

Actually, we have five faculties in the polytechnic, Ibadan. Which are; the Faculty of Engineering (FENG), with five departments, the Faculty of Science (FASSA), with seven departments, the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies (FBCS), with eight departments, the Faculty of Financial Management (FFMS), with three departments, and the Faculty of Environmental Studies (FES), with nine departments.

Over the past two years, the number one students in the school have been from the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies. The faculty has consolidate itself ruling the school.

SUG CUP: A CALL FOR AVERSION OF IMPENDING TRAGEDY

It is no longer news that the SUG football competition for the 2016/17 Academic Session has advanced to the knockout
stage, however, it will be a great sin to every sense of reasoning if the Com Edema led Student Union Government who is the organizer of the football competition is not warned of the impending doom that is likely to manifest as a result of inadequate security that the SUG has failed to provide. According to Com. Sanni Abayomi, the SUG sport director in an interview with the Press Council on 19th March, 2017 over the prospects and challenges of his office, also asking what measures his office has put in place to ensure the safety of participating teams and the spectators from violence that do characterize the SUG cup whenever it is being played. The SUG Sport Director during the interview promised to provide adequate security by even engaging the services of security personnel that are not within the campus.

Now, using the matches played on the 28th June, 2017 at North 2 field between Mechanical Engineering and Nastes as well the one played at North 1 between Public Administration and Office Technology Department which led to a serious breakdown of law and order on the two pitches. Some students were seriously beaten and injured during the violence that erupted during the matches which could have been easily subdued if there was enough security personnel.

It is therefore imperative that Student Union Government put in place more stringent measures that will prevent ugly situations likely to be witnessed as the competition is progressing to more interesting stages. Poor officiating on the part of the Referees and Linemen has been identified as part of the reasons why students express displeasure by barging into field and beating the officials.

Meanwhile, Ogundele Ayodeji Israel, a concerned student expressed his mind about the tragic event, he said;...

DO YOU AGREE?----EDUCATION IS A SCAM

It is widely said “Education is the best legacy” “Education can make you rich”. In fact a former president of Havard University Derek Bok says: “if you think education is expensive, try ignorance”. Never changing, this suitable sentences are often used to how pertinent is what we called education, but, quite undesirably, many people who dabble in education end up gaining little or nothing in it.
Parents and care givers spend a lot of money on their children in order to acquire formal education, many years are spent by the students in their tertiary institution with suffering and other undesirable occurrences, yet all they see after graduation is unemployment.
Analogically, people that go for vocational training are making wave than those that vie for formal education. The number of graduates that are roaming around the street without employment are more than the number of people that go for vocational or entrepreneurship trainings roaming on the streets.
The amount spent to attain formal education can be used to set up a business that will eventually, scintillatingly and flamboyantly thrive. Calculi the total amount you used to secure accommodation in the tertiary institution, the amount of tuition fees, miscellaneous fees, the amount for buying hand out and do your assignments amidst others. Convincingly, if well utilized, the amount used to acquire formal education can be used to establish any vocational skill...
