In the spirit of giving back: Let me start from the beginning

I had my B1/B2 visa renewed via Dropbox. We were to go on holiday but work happened for lehub and trip was cancelled. We decided to give birth in USA and I jammed this thread in the course of my research. I studied and asked questions and took notes like kilode. Fast Forward to

August 17th

MIL Applied for a visa as well.
VO: What are you going to the US for?
MIL: to assist my DIL who is travelling for childbirth with her toddler
VO: What state?
MIL : Houston, Texas
VO: pick up your visa in 3 days

None of the docs she went with was checked at all.

October 5th

Left Lagos via Delta airline with Toddler and MIL. Flight was Lagos>>Atlanta>>Houston. Chai!!Should have chosen better seats but no wahala when baby comes na keto and gym things to lose weight

Arrived Atl on Friday by 5.45 ish am. My LO decided to poop. So while others are getting off, i am in the restroom changing his diaper so we are behind on the queue.( Blessing in disguise i guess)

It gets to our turn.
CBP: What are you here for?
Me: To have my baby
CBP: Where are you headed?
Me: Houston
CBP: How much do you have on you?
Me: Bleep
CBP: OK Since you declared food and Bleep$ i will have to send you to agriculture and you have to fill a form so u won't be disturbed about the $$. Don't worry you won't be charged. Takes our finger prints and stamps us in for 6 months.

At Agriculture:
We take a seat and wait our turn. After about an hour, we are called.
CBP:Get your bags around here pls
Me: tries wheeling a trailer of 6 bags
CBP: Alarmed!!ALL those yours? ( you go dear bags naw)
Me: Yes
CBP: don't worry, i will come around myself. ( he comes around) Did you pack your bags yourself?
Me: Yes
CBP: How much do you have on you?
Me: Bleep$
CBP: show me
(He comes very close to me to show him in my bag. Said i should not bring em out. He saw the envelope and says that's okay. He didn't open it o. What if it was naira sef. Shows me another declaration form and I sign off)
That's okay you can go. Have a safe flight.
( no bag was opened at all)
Me: thank you ( I start to struggle with the bags)

CBP2 walks up to me. Are u resident here?
Me: No
CBP2: What are you here for?
Me: childbirth
CBP2: why not S.A or Uk
Me: I don't like S.A and UK visa takes long for application and I already have a US visa and your healthcare is cool especially for us self pay patients..

CBP2:He smiles. Helps me wheel our kaya to the connecting flight place and wishes me the best.

We board right on tum and arrive Houston. Saw my doc on Monday and chilling now. Got a flu shot that has made me ill see and my toddler just recovered as well.

The favour was just God all the way. Did I mention that i had my file arranged but never brought it outta my bag cos they asked for nothing?

Thank God for a smooth flight and entry (and delivery, in Jesus' name, amen).
I tap into your testimony.

Please, buy your ticket directly from the airlines or trusted ticket agent not "come and travel agents o".
Don't fall for tickets are cheaper in the US. You may be caught in between a credit scam. I have seen two cases in one month.

Thank you.

Goodafternoon, please am a first time mum, and i got my visa early this year, before i got married or pregant. Please i need help on the following issues.
1. My passort bears my name not my husband's name and i intended to go and give birth in th usa, pls i hope that wont affect the child's name.
2. I noticed every mum gave birth in Texas. But my sis is in new Jersey and i would like to stay with her, pls the mothers in the house recommend a hospital in new york that thier price is between 6000 to 6500.
Thank you very much for your kind assistance. God bless you.

While we wait for the gurus , (1) shouldn't be a problem. I think carrying your marriage cert./change of name should clear this.
(2) use the search bar up there . Narrow it down to the travel section.

Just hang in there, I'm sure the experienced moms will answer as soon as they come online.

Ok... time to share my Poe experience... 3rd missionary journey. Left Nigeria on the 15th sept with two toddlers and hubby with emirates. Emirates asked for fit to fly from dr and the one on their website. The flight was good just that my younger son disturbed my hubby all thru.
Anyway arrived Houston Poe there was no queue met a black cbp..
Cpb:what are you here for
Hubby: Vacation for me child birth for her
Cbp:how long are you staying
Hubby: 2 weeks and 12 weeks for them
Cbp: Did you inform the consulate of your intention
Me: Yes during my 2nd visa interview last year
Cbp: why did you have a second interview didn't you do drop box
Me: yes I did but was called for interview
Cbp: Why
Me: Cos I have my first child here but didn't say I was coming for child birth
Cpb: so u used ur visiting visa for childbirth
Me: yes
Cpb:ok... so you sorted it out at ur second interview
Me: Yes
Cpb: So your visa of f last year is what you are using for this birth? Thts one visa 2 kids?
Me: yea
Cpb: Any dr appointment yet?
Me Yes and gave him all my drs correspondence from dr f
Cpb: Have you made any payment
Me: No I usually don't make payment until I arrived ve
Cpb: Stamps us in and asked if we have food
Sent us to agric
Interview number 2
Got to agric one over Sabi officer collected my passport and started round two: went to his computer and started asking plenty questions: checked his computer oooo
Cbp: This is your 3rd birth in the Us
Me: yes
Cbp: did you pay ur bills
Me: yes
He kept checking computer ooo
Cbp: did you open any account her in 2014
Me: yes with Boa
He continued checking for his ancestors on the computer
Cbp: Do you have any outstanding bill?
Me: yes I do from my 2nd child's birth
The hospital sent me a bill of 13650 for treating jaundice for 3 days. I asked for a price breakdown and they gave me a discount of 6500: when I insisted on a price breakdown they further gave me another bill of 4400 so I started a payment plan of 200$ monthly
Cpb: do you have a copy of all these bills?
Gave him the 3 bills of 13500,6500 and 4400
Cpb: so it you and the hospital one year to negotiate this bill
Me: yes I just started the payment plan 3 months ago .
He kept looking at his computer oooo
Cbp: ok make sure you pay all your bills and keep your receipts. Scanned our bags and checked all the egusi, Maggie etc then said ook you seem experienced after 2 kids so you didn't bring any contraband. I just faked a smile cos this guy no understand say I don tire from emirates journey and all their investigations. I have been speaking in tongues since I got down from the plane and I just went to heaven to ask God for favor especially when he started asking about my unpaid bill... so I was tired physically and mentally. They sha let us pass o. Hubby was in shock till we got to the house we. Me sef I shock o but thank God. Av gone for my appointment with Dr F and waitin for baby to come. Thts my testimony.
Pls I don't know how to do PM
If you notice I took me over 3 weeks to type this epistle cos I am pregnant with two toddlers to run after all alone... so pls no plenty questions. Thanks and may God grant us all favor and safe delivery. Amen

Amen!!! Lol @ searching for his ancestors. You're so funny.

Gist on the rest of my twin missionary journey, I was very lucky to get a woman at the airport to add one of my twins to her ticket and she helped me to carry them althru the journey. I called Qatar airways to change my ticket fro 4thsept to 25th aug in us but they said it will cost me 310 dollars, my hubby went to their office in Lagos and changed it with less than 50k. Thanks to all who helped with answers in the time of need especially babatwi and others, hats off to nairaland. Feel free to ask any questions esp those using elpaso

Congratulations! May God bless and keep your LOs.
El Paso mom, right here (by His grace). Visa interview next month. Tips/precautions ,words of advice would be appreciated o. I shall testify! Amen.

Sorry I've been away.

Okay
CBP: Hi, Good Afternoon.
Wifey: Good Afternoon.
CBP: Can I have you passport please and what do you want to do in the US.
Wifey: (gave her the passport) I'm here for delivery of my baby and would be in for 12weeks.
CBP: Why the US and not in Nigeria?
Wifey: The mortality rate in Nigeria is high,I had my first child here and the service was fantastic. However, my husband is able to afford the cost.
CBP: That's a lie, the hospitals in Nigeria are good. You are just here for our passport.
Wifey: No, the passport is not the reason but the service.
CBP: How much do you have with you?
Wifey: $6,000 (brought out the cash for CBP to count), i have other fund in my bank card and i'm also with my husband bank card (shows CBP the card.
CBP: No you don't have to give me the cash. Keep it. Well, I'm sorry I can see any reason to permit you into the US. Go to that office someone will attend to you and book your return flight to NIgeria. Thank you.

My wife left to the office she was directed to, before getting to the door the CBP officer called her back that she left her passport on her desk. As my wife collected her passport and that of my daughter, the CBP officer said proceed to the agriculture food declaration section. When she opened the passport it was stamped 6 months stay.

Omg! My heart nearly jumped in my mouth! That CBP is something else. Lol. I'm glad it ended well. Congratulations!

Call Northside Hospital (number on their website) and you'll be given a list of doctors you can use. Just sift through. I'm also looking for cheap accomodation in Atl. Try bookings.com.

N'landers, I greet you all.
Does your 'host' have to be family or a close relative?
Or is it okay to mention that one is staying with a family friend? I checked airbnb. The cost of accomodation I got for Atl is not beans.

I don't know that every doctor will have the time to do a personalised letter for every enquiry. I guess that's why some of them ask for a prepayment that you forfeit, of you eventually do not show up. The email is addressed to you right? The attachment I got also has the Drs details but not mine; so it's a standard letter that I sent to all enquirers. Different Drs would have different formats so I won't lose sleep over that.

I wasn't even asked for a prepayment, which I would gladly have done. I was told registration and payment are on arrival.

What was the correspondence between you and the hospital/doctor like? Were you able to get a cover/personalized letter? Sorry for prodding.

What you have will be sufficient,so far it was sent to you by the doctor's and it has their contact where it can be verified from them that the email truly originated from them if the need arises.

Thank you, Babatwi.

This decision is based on the risk each individual patient is willing to take. If you are questioned by the Visa Officer or at your Port Of Entry regarding your doctor, it is not the same to have a standard "canned" email response that is sent to everybody, as to have a signed letter from a doctor who is confirming he/she is accepting you. Should an officer make a call to the physician's office to confirm, I would think you would want him to be able to confirm your name and your date of appointment. In the end, you may or may not be questioned with regards to the matter so basically it is a decision based on the risk you are willing to take both at the Embassy for your Visa and at your Port Of Entry.

Thank you very much.

I got just one email each from a doctor in Atl and another in Texas, stating their fees and hospital charges. Is this enough "correspondence" to show at the embassy?

Texas mums, please how long do you typically wait to undergo a scheduled 'normal' CS? I'm having a baby in Houston and the Dr tells me that I have to wait 39 weeks, that this is the law in Texas, except there are complications or specific reasons that warrant bringing out the baby earlier.

Thanks.

Which hospital are you using, please?

With regards to the issue of 2 sponsors,i have not heard of it before o,but this doesn't mean that it cant happen.
Yes,your husband staying back could serve as your tie to home county

Greetings, house!
I'm due Dec. 2017.
Please, I need your informed opinion on these:

1. Is it advisabe I apply for a visa with my 2 kids(ages 4 and 2)?

2. Can I fill in 2 sponsors (hubby and sis)?

3. Does my husband staying back show enough strong ties to my home country?

Thank you all as I await your responses.

Hello everyone.
I'm planning on having my baby in Texas ( El paso or Oakbend,Houston) later in the year. My husband and elder sister are my sponsors, as I don't work.

Has anyone had this experience (having co-sponsors)? How do I present this at the embassy? As I know I can't move a bulk sum of money into one account. And is it advisable I go with my 2 toddlers? Thank you all!
