For Leipzig they went to like division 6 from the bottom level up to the Bundesliga. It will be like Instead of Shiekh buying Man City , he bought one in division 6 and rose through the divisions until he got to the Premier league

For Wolfsburg there was an exception based on the rule that if a corporate body has 20yrs continuous minority interest in a club, they can become majority owner

So if Abu Dhabi was prepared to sponsor Man City as a minority owner for 20yrs, they can become majority owner.

Basically it makes it hard for anyone to just buy a club unless you have long term interest and are prepared to go through the rigours even if you are not making profit

Oh ok. Thought it was a loaded question. Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and Hoffenheim have exceptions via the 20yr rule. Leipzig does not have any exception but circumvented the rule via some yahoo boy moves.

Essentially what Leipzig did was to limit the voting membership almost exclusively to employers and other proxy agents of the Red Bull company. Therefore on paper it is obeying the 50+1 rule but in reality it is under the control of the top dogs at Red Bull.
