Now, to be honest, I just clocked 26. I was done with my sec. education way back in 2012. Due to one problem to the other, i couldn't further. I had to involve myself in some menial jobs to sustain myself for the meantime and along the way, i learned phone and computer engineering and i do brush through some very important books occasionally.

This is where I need your wise opinion guys. Dad got into a problem when i was about to finish sec. School and since then, hes been repaying debt till now. Infact, debt has consumed all his salary. He's just borrowing from peter to pay Paul to survive.

And he's still of the opinion that i go to school. I got admission to study pharmacy at OOU in 2018, paid the acceptance fee but couldn't pay school fees and i lost it for good. So he wants me to try again but where will he even see the money when school wahala comes again? He's gonna go the borrowing way again i guess, compounding the problem we have at hand

So I've been thinking....what if i go back to factory work, then get myself a computer and learn programming "frontend development for a start"? I want to dedicate atleast 1 to 2 years to learn it. Then after that, i would proceed to school either on part time or full because i still want to further my education to get the b.sc cert. at the minimum.

Honourable men and women, CONSIDERING THE NIGERIA OF TODAY,i need your wise words at this critical junction of my life.

If I'm done with the programming, can it atleast sustain me a little bit?

Should I faithfully follow my dad's intention or just go through my own plan?

Thanks

After your University Education what awaits you ?

What do you really want from Life? Food, Shelter, Clothing, Liberty, Happiness, companionship and family right?

If you can read very well, and write very well, you can always take the handouts from the Uni stufents and photocopy and read all of them in one year while learning and mastering skills of programming or any other skills that guarantees you the finance to go into your dream.

Bottom-line is, you want a secure financially blessed future - that is all that matters.

Start hunting - you do not need a University Degree to be successful, but you need the knowledge. So read everything you find and focus on making money.

Your dad truly loves you, but his present financial condition is not helping matters
I'll suggest you go with the skill you acquire or about to acquire.
Going to school this days in the present Nigeria don't make 1 a successful person neither does learning a skill or trade

Proverbs 3:5,6 may be of help to you.

you can try programming, I don't know if its lucrative in Nigeria right now. You can try other things like food making or selling, do you notice any areas you over look, something you are good at, that can be faster in generating income, examine you environment and yourself.

Are you good in food making, Video making and story narration, or do you have unutilized land around you, are you good in making things like shoes, cloths or are you good at chemistry, in making soaps, are you good in traditional medicine, or are you good at instruments, singing.

Examine yourself, sometimes one does not need something that sounds complex like programming to earn, sometimes some simple things you over look can give you earnings.

I will also encourage you to go into programming, but it takes time, focus, and you have to accomplish certain things, like making either a mobile, desktop, or web app, with database connectivity, also things like accessing data APIs

Yes you can. Its really all up to you, your determination and drive. You have a good plan but its really up to you to follow it through, planning is the easiest part.

Explain it to your dad and buy him into the plan, you need as much people in your corner to encourage you on the days when you’ll feel like letting it all go to flames.

Wishing you all the best.

Excellent advice.
Nothing to add

Young man, you have a good head on your shoulders, getting that skill will really go a long way in easing the already complicated situation at home. Talk to your dad and make him see reasons with your idea. You could just be on your path to liberating that family.

Yes learning programming would save you and your family from poverty.
After learning, I advise that you get a professional certificate to polish your resume since you don't have a degree or it's equivalent.
I teach front-end and backend web development btw. Maybe I would be the one to teach you that time

start with the programming stuff first.
Re: I Currently Need Your Sincere, Unbiased advice by Nobody: 3:17pm On Apr 27, 2021
The best thing you can do for yourself is to acquire that programming skill by all means. Even if you eventually go to school, that skill alone is enough to sustain you. One of my worst mistakes in life is not learning programming when I was in school.
Re: I Currently Need Your Sincere, Unbiased advice by SeriouslySense(m): 3:20pm On Apr 27, 2021
smiley smiley smiley smileyLearn Programming, I have been learning it and its not my field, and i have more choices, I have gone to programming interviews, but i am currently working on my profession, but i program for fun and i keep learning because discovered i love it naturally, i plan to eventually use it.

Learn it, its a vital skill, and you can also look for something around, if you have access to big land, combine with farming, there are innovations in farming too.

Other skills are in electronics and repair. Good luck

Sir,

Here's what I suggest.

Work on creating legitimate means of income.

Business. Coding. Content Writing. Etc

When you have a fairly stable streams of income

Go back to school

As you can see, your father's limits are hampered by the debt he's paying, and depending on him may be a wrong move.

So work on creating sources of income, then take it from there.

Your intentions are wonderful, and I hope that you get the best of your dreams and life.
Amen sir. Thanks

If you don’t have a sponsor or any financial income,no need of wasting your time in any higher institution ,else you will regret it .Education now is all about finances and if you don’t have any means of income you will surely regret it or drop out.
Go learn a skill and when you are well established, you can go back to school.
I am given you this piece of advise from my personal experience.
Thanks sir

I don't know what advice you need when you've already advised yourself.

Nigerian unis don't teach coding. The highest you'll get is basic coding. In schools like Lautech, you even get to code inside a book. grin grin grin If that qualifies as coding, that is.

You've chosen the wise option. Get the job, the laptop and begin coding. You just need dedication and seriousness.

Tech, freelancing and coding are the future. And the path you've chosen right now will take you right there.

Good luck brother
cheesy Thanks sir

School is good only if you can afford it.
I told a group of people we were arguing on how pastors collect offering and tithes to build universities that there poor members can't attend, I told them that University education is not for the poor.

Like I said earlier, uni is good, but it's not for the poor, and not going to school can't stop u from fulling your destiny.
We have read how some of the wealthiest people in the world today never went to uni., Thanks!
It's not for the poor? Well a maybe rather than a Yes. How much is UNILAG tuition fee plus hostel etcetera etcetera? How much is Covenant fee alone? My brother don't bring this tithe thing to this table it is even out of line.
Tithe is meant for the Widows, the hungry and the needy. The priest also need to eat too.
Did God give Pastors that covenant? Why did you think in Paul and Peter's teaching they didn't mention tithe? You want to do all the law completely do it. You can't be collecting tithe and you're not killing ram for blood sacrifice, burning incense etcetera etcetera.
The old testament was a Preamble to the New Testament.
What is bad if the Pastor's say "We need donations from you our members". They can term it "Collections". When the Early church Christians were selling their lands to help the church grow and to help each other there wasn't anything like tithe.
Guy remove that Tithe thing abeg
