On a lighter note guys, our military have generally done well in handling this insurgency. I still remember when BH were striking Maiduguri, Kano, Damaturu, Kogi state and even Abuja. At least, they have been pinned to only rural areas of Borno now. It is an achievement but they can do better

Rivers state gov't has declared curfew in all land borders in the state because of the recent development in the state, AkwaIbom is also heating up.
I remember making a post here that the crises in the south east can potentially spill over to some south South state but a certain troll jumped in to disgrace himself. The military keep opening new fronts all over the country unnecessarily when we are not capable of managing the one already created, we should keep on complicating issues till the country caves in.

We do not need any foreign support apart from our neighbors if we are been truthful to ourselves, those in government knows what to do but laziness and non challancy is the reason it looks like the entire roof is coming down on us. The situation will only get more complex when we involve foreign hands.

The recent setbacks in the North East does not define the entire situation, you cannot always win in war there would losses at some point in time whether you like it or not.

May souls of the soldiers, policemen and civilians we've lost in recent days Rest in perfect peace.

Hiring mercenary is abominably expensive and unsustainable for any national army. it's far better to seek support from a sovereign nation than from Dothrakis mercenaries.

As much as the happenings in the South East are regrettable, pinning the blame on the military is not only malicious but also suspect.

What do you say of the idiots who have chosen to set there own house on fire?

War and strife is sweet in Commando movies until starvation and unrest hits. Or do you think it is the military that would suffer?

As much as I support the agitation of Biafra, but my brother, not in the manner MNK has preached it (in fact to me he does not represent the soul of the great movement). And again, what is to say are the gains of Biafra that cannot be the gains of the South East in the current construct?

I have written a lot about this on my old Facebook account since the days of Soludo as CBN Governor and what we have obtainable then still is today. As a bloc, we the South Eastern have refused to ask the right question, subscribing rather to blame game, herd mentality and outright blackmail.

In the year 1999/2000, if you travel on federal roads in the south west(I can't talk about other regions), you will find out there is absolutely no better federal roads in the whole south west. Is it Ikorodu-shagamu, Lagos to Ibadan, Shagamu-ijebu ode-ore to benin expressway, Ore to Akure, Ibadan-Ilorin etc were all hellhole.

Before the military handover to the civilians in 1999, Lagos State was a shit hole, you go dey see huge garbages for road side, there is no better roads in the whole of Lagos State, except few good roads in Ikoyi, Vi and Ikeja. The rest of Lagos was a shit hole. Before the military took over, UCH was one of the best teaching hospital in commonwealth states.

They made institutions weak, they introduce corruption, gave us a terrible constitution, Hospitals were not funded well, schools were not funded well, Human right abuse was widespread etc.

Shey nah the likes of Buratai or Attahiru wan put this nation on the right track sef? The present Minister of defense was accused of diverting over $550,000.

Most Nigerian army barracks are nothing to write home about. I lived in Bonny camp in the late 90's and lived in Dodan Barrack in the early 2000. Oga's dey pack money for inside their car boot go house in those days.

If Nigeria nah better country, IBB should still be in jail by now for annuling a legit election for no genuine reason. That annulment could have lead to a brutal civil war. That annulment is one of the reasons we are where we are today.

From 1990 to 1999, I can't point at any meaningful development in Nigeria.

This Democracy is far better than any military rule.

Look at how rich Abdulsalami, IBB, Danjuma etc are grin

Nigerian army officers wey dey chop soldiers allowance, nah Im some people wan make dem take over... Chai!! Some Nigerians are fvcking daft. Thank God this daft people are in the minority, if nah military rule you want, pack your bag dey go Chad.

Democracy is here to stay, and there will be no negotiation about it.

This same Nigerian army wey be say, a warrant officer that served the Nigerian army for years, and after retiring, he was not giving #1 for a full year. The man was in debt, it was after one year dem start to dey pay am all his entitlement. The man was in debt he had to start using some of his pension money to service him debt.

The military should concentrate on fighting and let we civilians concentrate on making this Democracy right, they had the chance of making this country great, but they didn't.

Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have begun inducing residents of Geidam, Yobe State, with cash gifts while hoping to get some of them to join its ranks as militants.

HumAngle learnt that the Boko Haram splinter group had shared N20,000 to well over 50 households as of Tuesday evening.

The terror group had invaded the Local Government Area on the evening of Friday, April 23, and has since held sway over the territory, defying attempts by the Nigerian military to recapture the place.

The insurgents destroyed private and public properties, including telecommunications facilities, but refrained from harming civilians, especially Muslims.

They also hoisted their flag and distributed propaganda leaflets inviting residents to join their group.

“My people are helpless, you can’t imagine that as a full Nigerian citizen you can be at the mercy of Boko Haram for the past 24 hours and nobody cares to do anything about it,” lamented Lawan Shettima, the federal lawmaker representing the locality, on Saturday, disputing claims that the Nigerian military had dealt a heavy blow to the invaders.

Many residents of the town have fled, including the state capital Damaturu. One of them, Rawana Usman, told Daily Trust the terrorists killed two Christian employees of a non-governmental organisation in his neighbourhood.

“They were going round houses targeting Christians, NGO workers and those that are educated in the western schools,” he said.

“When I heard of the selective killings, I couldn’t resist, I left abruptly. I can say that there were soldiers engaging them. They have been doing their best to push out the terrorists, but I can tell you that these boys were moving normally in the town up to the time I left.”

A 2019 report by the International Crisis Group, a non-profit think tank, observed that ISWAP’s approach to recruiting new fighters proved effective. Despite breaking away from the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram faction in 2016, the population of its fighters had roughly doubled those of the latter according to estimates.

Seven dead bodies have so far been counted with many others injured after armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Abagena community housing Internally Displaced Persons camp in Makurdi Local Area of Benue State.

Governor Samuel Ortom while addressing angry youths who protested and blocked the Makurdi -Lafia road with the dead bodies, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his responsibility of protecting Nigerians.

He described the attack on the IDP camp as inhuman, barbaric and unacceptable.

The Governor who called for urgent action against the activities of herdsmen across the country said if the Federal Government had taken the issue of herders seriously, it wouldn't have escalated to this level.

He lamented that in the last two weeks, over seventy persons had been killed in Makurdi Local Government alone while various communities across Benue are suffering from same militia herdsmen.

Senators on Tuesday expressed the fear that the Boko Haram insurgents may overrun the nation’s capital, Abuja, because of the attacks the deadly group had launched on neighboring states

On Monday, the Governor of Niger State, Sani Bello, revealed that Boko Haram terrorists had taken over about 50 communities in the state.

Bello said the terrorist group is just some two hours away from Abuja.

As a way of addressing the issue, Senate resolved to send its leadership to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari. But no date has been fixed for the meeting.

The decision of the Senate followed a motion, moved through a point of order by Musa Sani from Niger State, tagged, “Activities of bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in Niger State”.

After a long debate, the Senate resolved that the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, will lead other principal officers of the upper legislative chamber, to meet with President Buhari.

It also resolved to summon the newly-appointed service chiefs to brief them on steps so far taken to salvage the situation. No date has, however, been announced.

“I can authoritatively confirm that the Boko Haram terrorist have mounted their flags in many of the villages they have captured such as Kaure, Alawa and Magami,” Sani said. “Inhabitants of these war-torn parts of the State have been abandoned and left to their fate thereby compelling them to wallow in perpetual agony and abject misery.”

Sani informed his colleagues that about 42 communities across the two local government areas of Shiroro and Munya Local Government have so far fallen under the Boko Haram control with about 5,000 villagers already displaced in the last three days.

“They have kidnapped many and their wives seized from them and forcefully attached to Boko Haram members while three military camps in Allawa, Bassa and Zagzaga in the two local government areas have been sacked and some security personnel killed by the insurgents in the last one month of renewed attacks,” the lawmaker added.

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, in his submission, said the Government has lost its legitimacy to lead. He said since the primary responsibility of the Government is to protect the people, that has not been done.

He said: “Any Government that is impossible of securing the lives of the people has lost legitimacy. We have made beautiful suggestions and have had retreats on insecurity.

“Unfortunately, the recommendations haven’t been implemented. We need to do something about this and very fast too. If we need to shutdown Niger State or the Senate in order to find solutions, let us do that.”

Bandits,kidnappers herdsmen kill over 2000 Kaduna people in 4 months-Isa Rabi'u

April 28, 2021

News of attacks by criminal elements in their various guise, either as bandits, kidnappers, herdsmen, have become normal since the beginning of the year 2021 as suspected criminal elements have killed thousands of Kaduna people in a space of 4 months.

Many kadalites, at the end of 2020, had prayed they never have to experience what they went through because of the global COVID-19 pandemic, as they looked forward to a more favourable year as they crossed over to 2021. But the first quarter of the year proved to be laced with greater dangers, occasioned by insecurity and growing dissent in almost every part of Kaduna state.

News of deaths, killings, kidnappings, attacks leading to destruction of property in almost every part of the 23 local government in the state.

Many kadalites who spoke randomly believe the state is under siege.Kadalites believe that many other commercial criminals kidnapping for profit and killing their victims have continued to operate freely without questions.

With violence and killings spreading rapidly across 23 local government in the state, no particular place is spared.I believe if this continues, it will be massive death harvest at the end of 2021.

The current insecurity situation has threatened kadalites and other political actors across the state.

Similarly,Emir of birnin kwari had been attacked by gunmen in the state.

These attacks and killings have drawn global attention to Kaduna with many reactions and little or no effort to tackle the menace.

From a rough estimate, gleaned from Nigeria Security tracker, a project of the Council on Foreign Affairs, the combined attacks of these armed groups and other lesser criminals, have led to more than 2000 innocent deaths in the state. This figure does not, however, include casualties on the side of the insurgents, bandits, herdsmen, kidnappers but that of innocent kadalites killed for being Nigerians and security agents, whose lives were cut short, mostly in the line of duty.

There have been several attacks across the state leading to deaths that were not reported in the media.

Many believe lives in Kaduna has become very cheap, that news of killings no longer sound strange, stating that it has become a “situation of where and who is next?”

grin As someone who has stayed in Niger state for the past 4 years, I just can't believe this governor. Person wey be governor of Niger but lives in Abuja and uses helo to come in once a week and run away too?

The bolded is another sign of cluelessness. Niger, Nasarawa and Kogi are incubatorsfor extremism no doubt. But I'd begin to take him serious when I see evidence of "a government" in the many communities littered all over Niger state. See many communities with people still living like the early 20th century. Chai

I noticed some people talking about lack of comms equipment and other tools for the current regression on the fight against terrorism. The simple reason is the lack of fighting skills amongst the infantry men as a unit e.g squad or a platoon and also lack of discipline. Tactics is no different from what we've used in the civil and at par with what ISWAP is doing. They are even doing it and evolving better than us. What we call SF are actually not SF, they are normal army units just better trained, disciplined and imbibed with normal combat skill sets, fighting as an integral unit. Until they go back to the drawing board and be serious on churning out DISCIPLINED and well trained men then we keep on going in circles. And again I noticed people saying the army is overstretched. What is the size of the NA? How many men are in the NE? How many are deployed in every flash point in Nigeria? We need to make a manpower audit cos some people might be diverting surplus salary.

Lurker4Long:

When I observed that most NA vehicles do not appear to have radio antennas, I was pilloried by some here.
The friendly fire incident that resulted in 2 STTEP contractors losing their lives was because there were no radios to communicate their approach.

More recently, a terrorist convoy disguised as NA got close enough because there were no radios to communicate and distinguish friend from foe.(standard operating procedures demand a password which is changed daily so that base security is not taken by surprise; without this basic logistic component...)

With inadequate NA ->NA comms, what hope for NA ->NAF comms?

But, wetin concern me? Somehow nobody can make observations until their own house is in perfect order, according to some here.

I also noticed. A year ago I posted this motorised KDF convoy invading S Som. Its 2011 and all the vehicles have their own antenna. A decade later and many NA vehicles still lack this basic feature:WHY??

The lack of cohesion and fighting skills of the regular infantry doesn't in anyway dismiss the fact NA has comms issues.

Furthermore, what do you mean "SF are actually not SF". What " normal army unit" takes the fight in small numbers against a superior numbered enemy, does recon etc etc?

It's almost a week since ISWAP seized Geidam. They are consolidating their grip over that town, winning the hearts and minds of the inhabitants.

It is reported that they preach in Mosque, share religious leaflets and now they have started giving out money. ISWAP seems to be getting their strategy rights while the army is still churning out propaganda about reclaiming the town. To even note that Geidam is the home town of the current IG of police makes the whole thing tragicomical

Actually, no country comes close to US when it comes to force projection ( not even Russia or China) but the countries you mentioned have capacity to do something close. Their aircraft carriers carry far less aircraft (except royal navy 65+ aircrafts). Again no other country have more than 2 aircraft carriers. The US Navy also have over 20 assault ships comparable to aircraft carriers of other nations.

France and several european countries are also in Mali fighting terrorist and I don't think they are doing better than Nigerian military.

They have fighter jets and and helicopters for CAS but things don't really look good over there too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I haven't heard of their camps being overrun or European soldiers SM complaints of missing basic kit and terrible command performance.

I watched a video where the locals were hailing and clapping for Gunmen as they raided Area Command of the Police in Ehime Mbano,Imo State & killed scores of Policemen. Many are enjoying what is happening over there.
