The precarious situation of job opportunities in Nigeria has made many Human Resource Personnels, downgrade, demean and continuously discredit Nigerian graduates. A lot of HR officers were once job seekers before they were given an opportunity but they turn out to see themselves as demi-gods over time.
HR Officer's attitude towards job seekers portrays their organization's corporate image but most of them fail to draw the line and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of such positions. Some job-seekers are terrible though but they still deserve some respect.
Here is a friend's experience who applied for a top position in an organization that is in the Health Sector but was invited for the post of an administrative assistant even though he has an M.Sc in Health Economics and is doing a high-paying job at present. The HR officer even ended the call on my friend when he called for clarifications. My friend almost petitioned the HR officer to his organization for disrespect & lack of professionalism but decided not to do so after the HR guy apologized.
I chose not to reveal the organization and HR officers identity for certain reasons. This is a screen shot of their conversation and it happened in FCT Abuja

Nairalanders, What's your take on this?

Tell your friend to take that msc certificate and pour oil on it every morning. It will bring money and help him build large houses and buy big cars.

He is the proud one. And he will stay long looking for a job. That's pride and not self esteem. You are better suited at this job.....oh sorry I no do. Finish. Which one is if you know me. That HR is very trained and I commend the company. If na me ogbeni I go compose better swear give am and damn the consequences.

Oga wen U know ur worth and value den U won't tale nonsense from people. For someone who was already doing a high paying job and U expect him to clap for the HR officer for telling him he's only fit for an entry level position? Wen u don't attach any value to urself U'll appreciate every and any nonsense dats thrown ur way.

I understand. But what is wrong in " I didn't apply for that. I'm not interested" finish. I hope you get where I'm going to? It costs nothing bro. Even if he was with a very high paying job. Humility matters. I know a person heading a hotel. The cook had msc and no one knew until managerial position opened up. Guess what...she earns times two more than the previous manager. The humility startled the owner. There is a thin line between knowing your self worth and pride....

He doesn't need the outburst if truly he knows his worth. Just thank the HR and decline the invite that's all. Seems more polite to me.

He can also jump and pass if he doesnt want the job, or politely decline and keep looking for his worth, very simple.

The fact is, people are gonna judge this situation base on their perceptive. If we are to be objective, you'll see that both parties are wrong.

While the HR needs to work on his professionalism, the chest beater also have to work on his emotional intelligence.

He's too egoistic for my liking...

so because you are looking for job, you should be disrespected and given another position which is lower than your qualifications

its just like a supplicant serf kneeling before a filled tempered monarch. once the company sees you are desperate for the job, they would treat you like trash

Emotional intelligence is bullshit ! These are tools and tricks fraudulent companies use to deceive their employees of their benefit.
Read the message well! The HR is the egoistic one.

Stop supporting nonsense. If you know your worth you won't tolerate some arrant nonsense. When you own a company then you will know getting competent hands is hard and if you know your valve and how much you can make for the company your value will be well proved.

Your friend is rude, arrogant and entitled. He should be thankful he was even invited for an interview in THIS economy. He can't even write a formal note or communicate professionally. Which one is "I'm confused". All because of MSc in Health Economics.

Some of us went for MSc a top unis in the UK. The certificate is great and all but you still need the experience. When we came back I still came and did internships of N7,500, 15,000 and even 93k. I got enough experience to start earning even more. My last job was 450k and I've left for something much better.

Drop that pride and don't take every feedback as an "insult" or "spite". Too many people are begging to get "offended" these days. NO one wants such a toxic person in their company. The organization reserves the right to change the position you applied for. He didn't want it, he should have simply said no thanks and moved on.
