Nigerian PHD holder drops their PHD abroad and do odd jobs. Some do care jobs and other do delivery men. MSC in health economics na just paper, not much use in a hospital to be fair. Maybe some use in public health and medical statistic type job. 3 Likes |

MejiLoyon: User still not getting the point. If u accept a job u act accordingly to ur job description even if u are over qualified bt that doesn’t mean a trained hr personnel shouldn’t know how to speak to people in their capacity. I don’t know the post the guy applied for bt if sm1 applied for gm or senior manager position in a company and u tell him he’s best suited for administrative assistant I think u need to have u head checked. There are mistakes u don’t make in addressing people in the corporate world. This is not lagbaja and co enterprises nig ltd. The man complained rightfully and if he followed ur own way he’s just pretending to be less or meek bt within he is highly insulted. Not everyone is desperately seeking for a job and a hr personnel should have this at the back of their heads. Some People know what they applied for so ur choice of words matters alot. The hr obviously doesn’t know his work. Best suited for. Smh. 2 Likes |

Biglittlelois:I'm real and raw and very much unencumbered with emotional baggage like others. You don't know my own achievements,so what's the pain about? My point is actually very simple. He used his UK MSc and 7.5k intern jobs as proof that he is what, humble? That's really not the way to go. Because he assumed the applicant had MSc in Nigeria or his current paying job is less than 450k. That in itself is why I called him out. There is no need to tell the world all that, when you don't know OP's friends achievements or personallity, up close. What would have sufficed is to just tell OP, he went through internships before getting to his current level in life, despite having the same qualifications. Saying OP's friend is rude bla bla bla, then quoting his life stats,as proof of his humble nature is a bit weird to me. I noticed this trend on NL and it worries me. You don't need to react to any topic while sounding off about your personal achievements, while denigrating others. There are smallies here, that I personally know with double PhDs and you would never know. My point is both OP and the applicant are wrong 1 Like |

The responses are shocking. I can only chalk it up to Stockholm syndrome. People have been treated so badly for so long that humiliation is considered professionalism. The HR officer said that is what he was better suited for, that is condescending. He could have said that is what is available for now. HR people are not gods and I say this an HR practitioner myself. You have to portray your company in the best possible light to jobseekers cos you never onow who might be on the other side of the desk some day. If an Msc holders takes the job a school cert holder what job will there be for the school cert holders? This is the case with most people in the civil service that have refused to retire. Not knowing that by staying on job longer than necessary they are blocking their own children from getting jobs the refused to retire from. 1 Like |

VickypediaPHC: Your friend is an amazing character. He actually showed the HR the boss phone number but got mad when given a position of an assistant. This does not sit well with counter-intuition - If he had the number of the boss, and as a big man that he claims to be, why didnt he just call the boss and peach for the job? Again, do not blame me, it is just that I am not used to the mindset of the Time Merchants, aka Employees and Applicants. I had expected to hear that they argued about pay. I know that cleaners in some companies earn better than management staff of another firm, so I supposed if the position of an assistant pays more, he would have swallowed his pride and take the job, just for the coins. Time sellers are too proud these days. I really do not care about degree. With your degree you could be better in Cleaning Department than Management, and I will still fire you at cleaning if you do not mob well. Degree is nothing, what you do with the knowledge is what matters. 3 Likes |

This one will spend eternity in the job market with that kind of attitude. The HR officer said with your CV you are better suited for that position in THEIR organization, you are arguing "do you know who I am" crap. Ode. Since you are a big man in the society, go and employ yourself now, why are you writing "I beg to apply" application letters upandan. 1 Like |

grandeoj09: What yeye value are you talking about? Take that value and go and impact the world all by yourself then. A company has set their own standards, y'all are ranting. Lol. Many years ago when I was in Dubai job hunting, you'd see crazy criteria like, you must have a British or American accent etc. Are you going to fight them ni? Of course not, you move on. If he thinks he's too big for the position he should move on. 1 Like |

[quote author=jaxxy post=101420329] User still not getting the point. If u accept a job u act accordingly to ur job description even if u are over qualified bt that doesn’t mean a trained hr personnel shouldn’t know how to speak to people in their capacity. The HR wasn't rude. S/he was professional to the core. I don’t know the post the guy applied for bt if sm1 applied for gm or senior manager position in a company and u tell him he’s best suited for administrative assistant I think u need to have u head checked. There are mistakes u don’t make in addressing people in the corporate world. Making assumptions about something you have no idea about and then getting mad about isn't right, don't you think? 1. You don't know what position the guy applied for. 2. The HR officer told the guy what his CV and work experience can get him in THEIR company, the simplest thing to do is to reject it without any drama. It is their company nad they have their standards for employing people there. If you feel cheated then you can write the company an official letter. Most people don't even know how many HR departments operate. This is not lagbaja and co enterprises nig ltd. The name of the company wasn't revealed, so I don't know how you know it isn't Lagbaja and co ltd. The man was silly to complain the way he did. Typical Nigerian braggadocio, "do you know who I am?" crap. Whoever he is, he should take his hungry ass and go look for job elsewhere. His CV and work experience have been examined and screened and the HR dept has determined where he fit within THEIR organization. If it's a big organization like you implied, you can be rest assured the HR officer who contacted him didn't make the decision. He probably has HR managers. The hr obviously doesn’t know his work. Best suited for. Smh. The HR was professional throughout from the write-up. If the man likes let him go nad complain to Buhari, the HR officer is just doing his job according to company policies. 1 Like |

MejiLoyon:I don't see it as pride, that many MSc holders are underemployed, doesn't mean all MSc holders are underemployed. If you read the post very well, the OP mentioned that the applicant is currently working in a good position and well paid, he wants a higher position in this new organization. If the HR went through the applicant's CV well, he shouldn't be invited for a much more lower position, it's demeaning. It shows the HR doesn't pay attention to the details in applicants' CV, or just a rookie in the profession. |

MejiLoyon:sorry but the guy is working at the moment. Read the post again, he is actually doing very fine atm. The fact is these HRs are full of themselves and ill trained and mannered. The same applies to old employees, the way they show contempt and outrightly belittle new staff without thinking that maybe the new guy is coming from a place of great experience and the rest. We all need to work on our superiority mentality. Many security and gate men are also guilty of this. |
Re: An Ugly Experience With A HR Officer In Abuja by na2016: 6:34am On May 06, 2021 |
I feel this HR was unprofessional. Nothing stopped him from emailing the guy to ask if he will be interested in a junior position as the original position is already filled. |

Biglittlelois:no pride about this. I feel so bad for us all in this country because lack of opportunities have turned alot of us into stooges. This man knows his worth and he isnt desperate. He has the boost for this because he is currently employed, simple. If you have ever applied for a job and currently well engaged at the moment of application, my brother you will not take nonsense from any HR. |
Re: An Ugly Experience With A HR Officer In Abuja by adabaraabdul: 6:42am On May 06, 2021 |
Biglittlelois:this kind of mentality is what makes these recruitment guys treat people like shit. The HR guy is clearly in the wrong an he needs to be cleared about it. You know what they say, evil men are able to go unscathed with evil deeds because the good men see it and do nothing about it. And this kind of arrangement makes one worse than the original perpetrator of the act. Just saying. |
