From an HR officer perspective: You have an MSC, so what? Do you have any idea how many quality CVs came in? Do you have any idea what the selection criterias are? Experience? professional certification? Skill requirements? This Hr Officer must have been impressed with you CV but because you do not meet the criteria placed on the role you applied for, he shortlisted you for one that you're qualified for. If you didn't want it, just say you're not interested. You didn't even think to call head of human resources or the hr officer direct supervisor.. Na CEO u wan call, like the decision to shortlist you was not approved by the head of Hr... Your call would have been a waste of time and the CEO would just apologize... FINISH but you, you've most likely been blacklisted from ever being employed in that company and subsidiaries. Blacklist book dey HR office, continue being proud and rude to every HR officer, you hear 2 Likes |

adabaraabdul: Explain the nonsense he took from the Hr, sometimes most people are really blind because of their personal negative experience with hr, and that's not what is evident in this thread, The Op's friend was rude, arrogant, and full of himself when he said "do you know who I am" " I have the number of your CEO" bla bla bla is demeaning when I have an MSc" etc Will it hurt him if he politely reject the offer without showing himself? Must he sound insulting because he was offered what he didn't apply for? He is currently employed with a high pay, good for him, is he forced to take the job? He threatened the hr and his means of livelihood when he said he'd report to his boss, was that really necessary? That shows the kind of wicked heart the applicant has which is very bad. This has nothing to do with stooges or whatever, he should stay in his current worthy job, and keep looking for his worth, the unnecessary shalaye was plainly off, very very simple. 1 Like |

Read the op’s write up and then read the chat conversation. U shud get the picture properly. All the details a deduced are in there. U raise all the other less likely possibilities from the the company hr and yet quick to call the man hungry like u know who he is, u also fail to look at the scenario of the hr not going through the man’s CV and realizing he works in a much higher capacity already elsewhere with experience. The op stated this. In any case it is not hr’s Job to tell people what they are best suited for especially when they are over qualified or currently above it because like I said nt everybody looking for a job in a company is jobless many have great jobs bt want a change for a reason. It can be offensive. U assumed he’s hungry U assumed he’s jobless Probably that’s how u see everybody applying for a job and its really bad and unprofessional mindset that can lead u to serious errors. My reservation is the choice of words, “best suited for” if the man had applied for a much lower job will the hr say he is best suited for a much higher job?? How did hr arrive at the unnecessary conclusions?? 1 Like |

MejiLoyon:. God bless you. I know with people like you Nigeria can still be great. I really don't understand what's with job seekers and pride. for all I know...that so called 'entry position' could even be better than the job the guy already have. . Also sometimes, foresight is what matters. What if he gets promoted just two months after resuming? what if they are only testing his humility?? What has cert. or qualifications got to do with all these?? honestly that guy is too full of himself. A complete slowpoke. |

9jaRealist:Dude, when someone applies for a role they aren't qualified for, you reject them, it is not by force to employ them in your company either. If you want to give them a lesser role you ask if they are willing to accept it, not to just invite them for interview for a lesser role and tell them that's what they are qualified for. Did you see the part where OP said the guy hung up on him? Is that right? 1 Like |

9jaRealist:When you are disrespected, you don't walk away because you have self worth, you call the person out. HRs will insult more graduates in this country because people like you think it is virtue to accept insults with a smile. |

MejiLoyon: If you had taken time to read through the screenshot of the conversation. You would have noticed where the applicant dropped the mobile number of the CEO of the organization. And told the HR guy that he would have reported him if he had not apologized. So, you see. He could possibly be a friend of the said CEO. And its definitely gonna be insulting for a HR of your friends company to address you that way. Its really demeaning. And he still ended up advising the guy against future occurrence! |
Re: An Ugly Experience With A HR Officer In Abuja by optimistic0001: 10:18am On May 06, 2021 |
luminouz: My brother, I'm not defending that HR, but saying things how they are. Did you read the screenshots the OP posted, see the HR comments and judge fairly. Let me ask you and other applicants, if you apply for a position and the HR or management consider you for another position instead of discarding your application, will you be sad or arrogant to them like the OP and the friend? What is not your job is not your job and HR is one. Most times, we look at certain things before considering some people or pushing then to various positions instead of discarding their applications. Mind you, I remain kind and respectful to applicants and I even give them tips sometimes on how to face Senior management in the recruitment process because I will be an applicant sometime and anytime. As job applicant, this arrogance and highheadness won't take applicant anywhere, anything you don't like on your recruitment process or job schedules, you can easily say NO and reject it. For the HR to even apologize shows humility, if the OP and friend is not full of themselves or arrogant, since the HR apologize, they will let it go and don't need to bring it here or anywhere. I always tell people the truth at the course of my career even management that I work for. 1 Like |

I like that guy. I like his confidence. I like his response. He wasn't begging for a job and knew what he wanted from the first instance, so I understand he must have felt slighted when the HR said that. The HR too should have used a better language. 1 Like |

jaxxy: Isn't it interesting that despite the fact that the original post never mentioned 1. The applicants qualifications 2. The post being applied to 3. What kinda job it is 4. What type of company as per size and industry 5. The applicant's former job description 6. The applicants experience in the field You and those who have posted like you have immediately condemned the HR guy as unprofessional and wrong. Quite funny. Despite the fact that these facts weren't included in the original post, it is safe to allow the benefit of doubt for the HR department that handled his application. If indeed it is a big firm (otherwise, someone with such an ego problem won't go there) then it is safe to say their HR department isn't just one person. Erring on the side of caution is giving the HR the benefit of the doubt that they did their job. They could have written a rejection letter or not even responded to his application, but they thought he might fill another position in their firm. That's reasonable, especially if they want to save money for vacancy advertisement. Also, many people have an inflated perspective of themselves and their capabilities. I believe the HR doesn't have a personal opinion, only a professional one based on the CV submitted. Despite all these, it's their firm and there's no law that compels anyone to hire any specific being. 3 Likes |

joe4christ: Yinmu. If he knows the CEO on a personal basis, then what's he doing submitting CV? Why not go to the CEO directly and ask him for the job? You guys will believe anything. Just ask yourself, if you were close enough to Dangote to have his personal phone number, would you write an "I beg to apply..." letter to any Dangote company? 1 Like |

FrLukas: A lot of Hr’s are incompetent and irresponsible and even some times plain wicked and these are also very likely possibilities especially in Nigeria. Hr’s also have inflated egos. The fact Ure in Hr doesn’t automatically mean ure a wonderful person and sound professional especially the low cadre hr staffs. Talk to a hr boss and then u will see a difference in professionalism. I said read what the op said and read the man’s chat. He’s not even egotistical he even added with all humility in his statement not minding if he was talking to sm1 of much lower professional background or experience to him. What a gentleman. The rude person might even be the unprofessional hr staff if u ask me. 1 Like |
