Lama70: It is becoming extremely difficult defending this government and a President who is adamant at shredding whatever is left of his legacy. You can imagine if the former President was this defensive of the atrocities of the Niger Delta militants and defensive of their quest to completely appropriate the resources in THEIR domain, what will have happened to Nigeria. I believe when you aspire to the highest office and approach to swear to uphold the constitution, you do so with a certain degree of sacrifice. To let go of primordial instincts and be a leader for all. Sharing the feelings, the pains and aspirations of every Nigeria in EQUAL measure. This President and this government is falling far short of that. 6 Likes 1 Share |

descartes400:Precisely - Buhari's (or rather, Garba Shehu's) argument is nonsense from start to finish. "Equal protection" does not apply to laws passed by states as long as they affect all Nigerians equally. It would be one thing if the southern states said "only Fulanis can't open graze", but the laws they've passed apply just as much to the people of their own states as it does to everyone else: nobody from any state is allowed to open graze. If Garba Shehu (using Buhari's name) is so confident as to his ridiculous proclamation, he is welcome to sue the states at the Supreme Court - at which point any justices worth a damn will laugh the case out - but until then, all he can do is mouth empty words the governors should ignore. This is a matter of property rights - those lands on which the herdsmen have been "open grazing" already belong to other people, who have the full right to say who can and cannot trespass on their land, even without any legislation by state governors. 2 Likes |

Of course it’s expected that the presidency will disagree on the ban but I can assure you that they are on their own on this one |

People's land given to terrorists with provision of facilities for herders and their families including schooling while not doing anything about the killings his terrorists carry out on Nigerians. At a stance now, Southern Nigeria is in thesame position with benue on "anti-open grazing" and we see how his terrorists are attacking benue. Let Southern Nigeria brace up to fight for freedom because there is no way fulani communities will exist in the south. Let the governors of the south demand referendum immediately. 1 Like |

All Buhari does is condemn an effort he couldn’t make to resolve the herder and farmers crisis. If the presidency had acted as a sane president would do, the southern governors won’t be coming together to ban open grazing. He kept mute like a local government chairman only to say the ban is unconstitutional. Is there anything that’s constitutional in your government you stupid slowpoke 2 Likes |

How should someone as a president still think movement of cattles from One Region to another is sarcosant in this modern age?? Only Ganduje of Kano state think like an educated Fulani man in Nigeria. He provides ranching for herdsmen build school, police station and water for herdsmen in Kano ( In the same ranches he gave them). He even gave each Fulani son or daughter scholarship in each Locl government in Kano abroad to learn about cow business and artificial insemination of cow. He is totally against activities and movement of herders in the country, I urge the FG to learn from him and other state Governors. When last did anyone heard about farmer/herders clashes in Kano despite it's proximity to kaduna?? When you are educated and exposed, the difference will be clear. I watched the program on Tvc even it was brought to FP here the following day where he rolled out his plan and he executed it well, it's not a propaganda I watched the documentary of the ranch on Tvc news and the interview with some herdsmen. They were comfortable and happy with the Governor and vowed never to leave the ranch coz they av all wat they needed in their disposal. 3 Likes 1 Share |

So, banning open grazing and trespassing over private property is unconstitutional but it's constitutional for one group to carry AK-47s harassing people? As a cattle rearer himself, he's quick to talk about cow issues but let it be end SARS or herdsmen killings or any issues concerning human lives, he'll remain silent. 3 Likes |

Apart from the fact that this statement is absolutely rubbish, let my try to debunk it with a rational mind: Are they trying to say that it was OK in the past for herdsmen to go and destroy farms? In which time? Certainly not in my father's time, nor his father's time, nor his. Can you imagine? Second, it's actually quite Constitutional, according to the land use act: all land comprised in the territory of each state in Nigeria are vested in the governor of that state and such land shall be held in trust and administered for the use and common benefit of all Nigerians. The right of every Nigerian to own land in any part of the country is therefore subject to the interests of the Governor. The Governor may also revoke a right of occupancy for overriding public interest. You hear, the land is held in trust to the Governor, who is empowered to give a Certificate of Occupancy, agreeing that it belongs to so so and so (for a maximum 99 years). Third, the power to control what happens within a state's territory is the exclusive domain of the Governor. There are some federal lands within states (or carved out from pre-existing states like FCT), but for the most part, state Governments have control over their territory and can determine what they will allow, and where. You can't go and open a factory in residential area, unless zoning law allows it. You can't open an abattoir right next to a hospital, etc. Governors are banning open grazing because it's becoming a security nightmare that the president has so far refused to address. Like somebody else said, let herdsmen purchase land and use that land to feed their animals. People pay for their land - or inherit it - before they can use it productively (i.e. farm on it). Why should it be different because you have some cows? I wonder what would happen if we intentionally took our goats to forage in tomato and onion farms in the North. 2 Likes |
