Yes you can. Good thing is you have about 3 years so can easily get a good deal of 15% deposit. If it's below 2 years 6months you might be asked for 25% deposit instead. The new change due COVID. Hello TRAY2, please can I get a mortgage while on a tier-2 visa which only have a 3-year validity? Or do I have to be a citizen first? or probably have ILR first?[/quote] 1 Like 1 Share |

Chai, catching up on the pages since March. Na wa oo, just few days away and before you know it, talk and gist don plenty . Thanks to all who reached out and dustydee for asking. Doing very well, just couldn't keep up with the page for a while but made sure I read all the various gist and happenings around and hopefully chop angels bread bakery one day. @chukwuma on the empathy post, absolutely spot on, our actions or inactions in the abroad will definitely affect people back home, Its good to see naija marriage sufferhead mentality changing regarding response to @justagirls post, better to accept you are single and grateful you are not tied with a child. @Kovic19, you can always apply for IHS refund when you have made previous payment and then applied for a new visa with another IHS payment. Also for those that paid IHS and working in the healthcare sector before the 31st march exemption, you can apply with your dependants through this email (IHSrefunds@homeoffice.gov.uk) with your full details and payment information and if no response in 28days, send it via the complaint section here : internationalcomplaints@homeoffice.gov.uk. This can be done online as well via this link https://www.gov.uk/complain-uk-visas-immigration. If they don't respond in 28days keep sending, ours and so many others I know got refunded after 6months of initial complaint. Infact, I have raised another complaint because I believe they refunded a lesser amount than we are due and after 1month, they said they are still investigating . They have been falling behind their usual timescale response, so in all just keep pushing even if na £100 na your money @tray2, you can get a mortgage on Tier 2 visa with 12months validity, we got ours with 18months or less, it wasn't really an issue as such. 2 Likes 3 Shares |

hi hi.. finally caught up to the chats.. interesting read and learnings from tv license to what single guys do here in the uk lol pls for a journey from UK to Naija via Germany or France, how many covid tests does one have to do? how many before leaving london and how many in Naija? Or should one just wait to find out if the lockdown in June will be completely lifted to see if there will be lesser need for covid tests? 1 Like |

profemebee: Are you transiting with Lufthansa or Airfrance?..... If yes, just fly BA/Virgin direct (budget £500 for covid logistics)...... 1 - PCR test before you board in the UK 2 - Covid test 7 days after you arrive in Nigeria 3 - Covid test before you board return flight 4 - You pay £210, for your UK covid test, before you board return flight....... Phew, I can see why having an expired passport in this period..... Is actually an advantage.......... 2 Likes 1 Share |

samcrispy: Your shoe making can earn something but only during summer when the weather is warmer and you could sell them then at your church, mosque or local Nigerian restaurant / beer parlour but generally people walk faster in the UK than we do in Nigeria (maybe because of the cold) and most people white or black wear covered shoes or boots with socks most of the year round as this is more practical. Having said that, what can earn you money year round irrespective of weather is barbing, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrician, bricklaying etc but Naija plumbing will not cut it in the UK as you have to be certified by a Govt body to be a plumber in the UK as you will be dealing with Gas fittings and expensive boilers which the Govt regulates very closely to prevent deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning by shoddy plumbing work which can land the plumber in jail for causing death by negligence. 2 Likes 1 Share |

wonlasewonimi: True talk. I have personally seen a headteacher stay with her unemployed husband and even gives him her debit cards to go down the pub to have a few drinks every week. The English (may not believe in God or even marriage) but they are the ones who really practice the marital vows of For better for worse, For richer for poorer, In sickness and in Health. Their own love does not do blood or genotype tests before marriage as an English man or woman will joyfully marry someone in a wheel chair as long as they love them and their families will welcome that disabled person with open arms. With us Nigerians, we worship money and money has bastardized most of our society, culture and values to the point that young men are no longer in a hurry to get married until they hammer hence a lot of men are bachelors well past 30 years of age or more as they don't want to be looked upon as financial failures by their supposed "life partner", their in-laws and out-laws. And it will only get worse by the day as long as we doggedly insist on judging people not by the contents of their character but by ephemeral things such as bank balance, employment status etc which can rapidly change for the worse or better at any time through no fault of anyone. 8 Likes 3 Shares |

You might save yourself headache and get a wife in Nigeria who will love you like Superman for bringing her out of Africa Yes, she will love you (or pretend to love you) like Superman for bringing her out of Africa because she wants you to get her to the UK first. When she lands in the UK and sees that she has to work in stressful jobs, she may not be able to cope with the stress and when she "discovers" single parent benefits (which she surely will discover) and the fact that the man gets kicked out of the house in case of marital troubles then that is when the marathon called marriage really starts and you start to see her true colour.. The UK is the single parent capital of Europe simply because of their anti family laws that handsomely rewards single mothers with regular payments PLUS a cut of the mans salary even though the same system has kicked him out of the house and away from his kids. Long and short, the grass is always greener on the other side and instead of having a target of going to Nigeria to bring a wife, its safer to just let nature take its course and allow yourself to fall in love with whoever the universe channels your way be that black, white, brown, Nigerian or Non Nigerian. Not all Nigerians are good marital material and not all Non Nigerians are bad for marriage. 11 Likes 2 Shares |
