Your shoe making can earn something but only during summer when the weather is warmer and you could sell them then at your church, mosque or local Nigerian restaurant / beer parlour but generally people walk faster in the UK than we do in Nigeria (maybe because of the cold) and most people white or black wear covered shoes or boots with socks most of the year round as this is more practical.

Having said that, what can earn you money year round irrespective of weather is barbing, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrician, bricklaying etc but Naija plumbing will not cut it in the UK as you have to be certified by a Govt body to be a plumber in the UK as you will be dealing with Gas fittings and expensive boilers which the Govt regulates very closely to prevent deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning by shoddy plumbing work which can land the plumber in jail for causing death by negligence.

Thanks for responding.

I also can paint too, I forgot to add that.

Also I want to ask if there are lots of HR jobs available in the uk, because that’s what I feel like studying(MSc) in the Uk.

Hello House,

It's been a long time. I havent commented here for months. I hope you're all doing well.

I'm back again because of this NIN application and passport renewal wahala in UK.

I was told about this site https://iq-online.net/ to register for NIN. It supports UK, Ireland, Usa, Canada, Spain, switzerland.
And is the site legitimate? Has anyone used them before?

Lol, na dem.
I visited a friend of mine who had a 13 year old daughter one summer a while back. She was going out and he was complaining bitterly about how she was dressed (she was wearing something short and skimpy enough to give an average Nigerian grounds to cast and bind her). Her mother too added her voice ("Go and cover yourself now!"} and a mini-altercation broke out and the girl left anyway.

I told the chap that having made the transition to the white man's land to raise your children, one should better get ready for anything. The children could embrace any sexuality or lifestyle. They might decide not to become the doctor, lawyer, engineer so beloved of Nigerian parents, or even to go to university at all. Or they might take off in old age and leave you to the tender mercies of the care system and whatever equity you have in your home. All one can do is try to nudge them in a desired direction through acculturation (difficult to do as our communities in the abroad generally exist for showing off and strange competition as opposed to those of the Asians, for instance), do a lot of praying if you're invested in any desired outcomes, and start researching old people's/assisted living options just in case.

Honestly the aspect of dressing has been worrying me since I got here. I see female kids in skimpy dresses all around and I wonder if they don't have parents. One must be very intentional in raising kids here with a lot of prayers.

Lmao cheesy grin cheesy
What has mode of dressing got to do with having parents or otherwise? Do you really expect anyone to dress like a masquerade in this hot weather? Dressing is largely dependent on the climate/weather, not parents or the lack of one. When I remember all the suit and tie I wore in the hot Naija climate and how I used to sweat like Christmas goat those years back, I just couldn’t but laugh so hard grin

It shouldn't worry you, is the point I'm making.
Beyond one's control, so one has to learn to accept all the ramifications of this place.

Hi, I think you should concentrate on graduating from school. Once you have your certificate, served and gained some experience, getting a job as a Radiographer in the UK won't be much of an issue. Cheers

Ok,thank you ma.

Just pray, because when it happens and it’s out of your control there’s nothing you can do about. University is not the only route to a successful career.

Last week Sunday morning I took my 5yr old daughter for a modelling photo shoot in London. I parked motor somewhere near old street station. Clearly avoiding the congestion charge zone and the ULEZ....
Friday morning I get letter saying I have driven into a new no car zone and I’ve got to pay £130 fine or £65 if I pay within 14 days. ....which kind problem be this from?...

Pls be careful those of you driving into London. There are now New street cameras are popping up everywhere. Other cities like Birmingham and Baths have implemented also ...
Whoo! Thanks.

Dear friends on this thread,

Re: TV Licence Fees

I am writing this to you because of my firm believe that this thread is meant to promote the right thing. I am writing this because I believe that dodging TV Licence fees is illegal (at least within the ambit of the law as IG currently is).

My advice:
If you do not require the TV licence, it’s fine. All you need to do is:
Visit the licensing website:
https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/cancellations-and-refunds-top7

In less than 2 minutes, fill the form.
They will send you an exemption.

Afterwards, you don’t have to be glancing over your shoulders and frigging, cowering in fear anytime there is a knock on the door.

Yours sincerely,
RalphJean
(who applied for, and got an exemption hence I do not watch, I do not pay and do not need to sound reminders to my children to shut the door to Law Enforcement Officers).
Thanks for the post
@RalphJean

Who said going to university is the key to success especially in the uk ?.

Below are 2 scenarios/Example (Child A and Child B)

Child A goes to university and graduates . He/she is already indebted to the government (student loan). He would find it almost impossible or at least 7/10 years of savings before he can get on the property leader.

On the other hand, Child B goes into an apprenticeship and within 3/4 years he/she has gained experience and possibly is a supervisor/ manager. He has no debt and can quickly get on the property leader.

Child A is searching for suitable jobs but isn’t lucky because he lacks experience. When he finally get a jobs, he meets child B as his supervisor/manager.

In conclusion unless your child is gifted academically, don’t force university into there head just to boost your ego amongst your peers. University doesn’t guarantee success.
These days you can go to university even when you are 80 (obansanjo et al..)

But who did uni epp?

If we look at it objectively one can live a fulfilling life without going through the stress of uni and MSc.

Not every career path involves going through university
