abatically: You are absolutely correct!!! There is not one paint shop that will do a proper paint job! The whole oven bake is a scam! I paid over 500k for a paint job at ATS in Abuja, it didn’t last more than 1 year, scratches everywhere!! A proper factory paid job would involve stripping the entire car; door handles, lamps... some would argue you should even have the panels removed and painted individually. Then most important is the clear coat. I think this is where the painters get it wrong. Some don’t even use this which should ideally form a protective layer on the the paint. 4 Likes |

Why is nobody suggesting that a repainted car could be seen as a potentially stolen car to buyers... Wetin I know sef, it's not like I have one. 5 Likes |

ivoryhouse: I had a similar experience. I was scared of repainting my car because of the after effects I have seen from repainted cars. However, on the recommendation of another person who had his car repainted I patronised someone who did the job for me three years ago. It is still as good as when I bought it except for scratches due to other vehicles and the like. Meanwhile, I painted the minivan for N70k up North. A couple of my friends have done similar paint jobs elsewhere and right of the bat you know something is wrong. Some few months after painting and it is obvious that cheap paint was used. I have seen a minivan put up for sale and from a mile away I knew it was recently painted and I was put off. When people who don't know you and can tell that your car has recently been painted, alarm bells go off. This is usually known when the is dull or shining more than normal. 1 Like |

fanex: This is exactly what i have been expecting to read. When you use road-side spray painters who take your car to oven bakes they pay to use, what more could you expect? Use the services of Kojo Motors and thank me later. |

When nairaland was nairaland, intelligent posts from the first page by experienced users. Back to topic. Probable reason people fear paint job is because they feel the paint is hiding in serious flaw eg, welded joints that might compromise the safety of the car. If the previous owner is honest, it can allay most of fears 2 Likes |

abatically:I don't believe your statement,a good car paint job is first determined by the smoothness of the body work and the quality of the paint, that's why if I want to do a car paint job I buy paint from sikkens, ppg , akzo Nobel,if you use original car paint sprayed by an experienced painter on a smooth body work you will get a very close to factory specs that will last far more than that 1 year,if you give car painters money for everything they will buy China paint and turkey or Ghana varnish and slow thinner, they will never go to sikkens or akzo Nobel office to buy ₦70-80k paint that will cover a car like Toyota Camry, note that ₦30-35k China paint will cover same car but will scratch at smallest contact, ifou want to do a neat car paint job buy paint yourself and pay for an experienced car painter to spray it around ₦5k,most of panel beaters are not car painters, there are some guys that have spray booth and spraying cars only are there job. |

I noticed that most painters here don't buff the vehicles after painting, then the vehicle owners don't use proper carwash detergents in washing the vehicles. |

It all depends on the quality of paint used in repainting and how honest the painter is. I have a friend that repainted his 07 corolla here in Enugu last 2 years and it's still glowing. Asked him what's up,and told he me he bought a high quality paint and that even the painter confided in him that if not for their relationship,he would have resold the paint and buy a less quality one and make more profit. So most of these painters know exactly the quality of materials to use but greed will never allow them. 2 Likes |

Fixed:what people don't understand is the fact that there are 2 major type of paint Nigeria painters use number one is called AUTO BASE another one is AUTO CREAR then auto base is the original and it is very expensive because of its quality but auto crear is cheaper and in most cases when you are negotiating with a painters they wouldn't tell you they will go ahead and apply the one your money that you bargained can afford sometimes even if you pay for auto base then some of them will go ahead and apply the cheap one knowing that you can't differentiate between them but if you can differentiate btw the cheap and the quality paint you will be on a safer side |

Kashif: Thank you - sometimes people wonder why I refused to spray my car, only patch up spots where Keke drivers brush - I was once offered N1m for my car bcoz it a first body! I bought another one of recent, that was sprayed and the quality is far more cheaper then what they offered for mine simply bcoz of the spray work |

Stylz69:Mind u, sulphuric acid is a dangerous oxidant itself despite his corrosive nature. Introducing the atmospheric oxygen will only only increase the oxidizing power. Clean water with mild detergent is the best. |

Re: Does Repainting Your Car Devalue It? by Originalsly: 11:29am On Jun 23, 2021 |
Hmmm..... the topic is not about quality of repainting job.... it's about if repainting devaluation of the car. There is no yes or no answer to this since it depends on the buyer. Soooo many value a car based on looks ..... these will choose an repainted car ... not concerned if the owner repainted to cover minor scratches or to cover major body repairs. Others will be concerned about the reason for repainting and if not fully convinced will immediately reduce the amount he was prepaid to pay due to risk factor. If the buyer got burnt before.... he most likely will not buy. |

if you want a very good car paint finish negotiate with the panel beater for smoothing and sanding only go and buy paint yourself,if you give a worker #200k he will go and still buy #40k China and Ghana paint product,I painted my Honda last 2 months the panel beater charged #35k and I bought paint and accessories for #76k at ppg,and the day he will spray I brought the paint and paid #5k to use an oven booth for 2 hrs,I was there until he finished painting I can't trust those guys they are mischievous,China paint will scratch if you just wash it with rag ,and fade in months. |
