The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has said it is not a must that the 2023 presidency will be zoned to the Southern region of the country.

Although the governor reiterated his support for power shift to the southern region of the country, he cautioned his colleagues that politics is a game of numbers.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, monitored by Ripples Nigeria, on Wednesday, Mr Zulum noted that the Southern governors were not wrong to call for a power shift to their region, saying it would promote unity.

According to reports, governors of the southern region had on Monday declared support for rotational presidency, saying the next president should come from the South.

The chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum and the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, read the communiqué agreed to by member states.

“The forum reiterates its commitment to the politics of equity, fairness and unanimously agreed that the Presidency of Nigeria be rotated between southern and northern Nigeria and resolved that the next president of Nigeria should emerge from the south,” he had said.

Meanwhile, in the interview, Mr Zulum said, “I have said it times without number that I, Professor Babagana Zulum, I am of the view that the presidency should go to the south in the year 2023 because the unity of our country is very important.

“Secondly, inclusivity is very important. Thirdly, I am in the APC. Six or seven years ago, APC had zoned the presidency to northern Nigeria based on the agreement that in the year 2023, the presidency should go to the south.

“But again, this is politics. We are supposed to meet and discuss this issue among ourselves, among the political class.

This statement that people are saying that the president must go to the south, I want them to remove the word must,” the governor added.

Your Excellency, Mr Zulum, its not only about numbers. President must and should come to the South 2023 - 2030 and preferably the East. Haba!! Where is the one Nigeria or federal character or rotation? Now i am hearing numbers...nonesense. where the north thinks they have advantage the want to use it but other areas- one Nigeria or equal reprentaton or federal character.
All political parties for the good of Nigeria produce a southern candidate. I know baba wont like it or el rufia. Zulum can be VP

Not true.

For too long the North has given power to the south, when in all actually the south has been dominating the presidency.

The south ruled with OBJ for 8 year, GEJ for 6 years, and the North only had Aso Rock for less than 2 years during Yar'Adua of blessed memory. It is not a must for presidency to rotate, democracy is based on election not selection, the south is too small, and disunited to win elections at this point in our history.

The North will retain the presidency, but the North is prepared to rotate the VP position between the SW, SS, and potentially the SE. Since the majorities of Nigerians are Northerners, it is only fair that the political representation mirrors our nation's demographic dimensions.

Presidency will stay in the North because the North is united, a Yoruba will never vote an Igbo, and the Igbo will not allow the Yoruba to have the presidency twice before they have it once. As such, the south is not ready. Moreover, the south is harboring and quietly supporting secessionists.

2023 will be full of surprises.

Don't fool yourself Mr man NorthWest or core North can not win 2023

For now South has Northwest by the balls, total southern ban of grazing of Cattles would automatically destroy Fulani militias power in Southern Nigeria

Just like year 1993 MKO Abiola a SouthWest man defeated Bashir Tofa a NorthWest man ,2003 Obasanjo a Southwest man defeated Buhari a core North man and 2011 that Jonathan defeated Buhari and Atiku .... 2023 would be a walkover for Southern Nigeria

* 17 Southern State won't vote Hausa Fulani, after the attrocities commited

* Benue, Kogi, Taraba, Nasarawa, Kwara , Plateau States or any farming state won't vote Hausa Fulani

*If not for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Buhari had already cried and retired from politics

The North knows they must cede power to the South for Nigeria to continue to exist. That is justice and equity. But they want the word ' must' to be removed.... That's pride.
The North has the number and they gained it through political manipulation. The south knows that if they come together, they too can regain the lost ground. That is if recognize their weakness.

Yeah I listen to his interview and he's right with his submission.
The right word should be the presidency 'should' and not 'must'. It's a democratic process and not autocracy.

While are the southern governors overheating the polity by making political statement about rotational presidency when they know what to do as politicians?

Which numbers? Remove children and Nigerien voting from the north, you will be amazed how minute they are.

Give it to this Prof, please. You rarely see governors who deliver his quality of jobs.
His public schools are some of the best you will see anywhere in today's Nigeria. Even though Ganduje is a corrupt man (which of them isn't, anyway?), he is another governor delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure.

When it comes to infrastructure, most southern governors are mediocres and Ugwuanyi leads that mediocrity pack. However, Umahi, Sanwo-Olu, Wike and Udom Emmanuel are doing a great job.

North & South
Your fellow Southerner is in a position to give you employment.
You go to him for employment.

You speak good English and write an excellent application letter to impress him.

He tells you to bring your qualifications.

You bring your First Degree (First Class or second class).

He tells you to go and do your Masters and even PhD for you to get the job.

ON THE OTHER HAND

A Northerner is in a position to give employment.

An Hausa Man goes to him.

He speaks Hausa to him.

He tells him to bring his qualifications.

He brings a third class degree or an SSCE with two Credits.

He gets the job and saves money to further his education.

He gets a Masters Degree while doing the job.

Tomorrow, he is appointed as Executive Director.

Ten years Later, he becomes Chairman or DG of the Agency.

The Southerner sees this and hates on the Hausa Man.

He accuses him of nepotism.

But that's not nepotism.

That's communalism.

Southerners must understand the difference between nepotism and communalism.

Helping your Brother to succeed is not nepotism.

Southerners just need to learn how to love one another like Northerners do.

Stop hiding opportunities from your people.

Northerners do not hide opportunities from their people.

With the event playing out since yesterday, our southern governor will begin to see the reasons why MNK is agitating. This malooos are not worthy to live with. The more reason the country should just break up.

We are a people of different religious. Cultural and political beliefs, why must we be lumped together and be called one Nigeria when there is no reason for such.

The average north love islam, and most of them are sympathetic to bandits, boko haram and iswap. They hate sales of alcohol and they love to see Christians been murdered on a daily basis eg Pantami, Gumi and El-rufai.

But the south sell their alcohol and has never hate on the muslims. They are majority Christians and have their various ethnic groups and cultural beliefs system..

It is on this premise that i am calling on all the southern and middle belt governors to begin the process of referendum so that an opinion poll or vote casting procedures can be adopted for people to decide at their own freewill on wether they can continue to remain one as a united Nigeria or go their separate ways.

This myth that north has population needs to be debunked. We need to conduct a proper census devoid of manipulations. Too many aliens from niger and Chad being used to pad northern population needs to stop.
