The next phase of the robbery will be to subsidize the product Dangote is bringing out thus using crude oil earnings to pay dangote substantially. By the way, what happened to the list of oil well allocation that generated a very brief noise some months back. Nigerians and short memory span. That's how abokis have colonised supposedly educated folks. 1 Like |

BetaThings:Spot on. When people accuse Dangote of monopoly and Govt prop up, I ask two questions. 1. How come ALL govts, PDP or APC, Southern or Northern have 'favoured' him? 2. How come the same Dangote has thrived in other African countries like Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia, Congo, Cameroon etc? He is an astute businessman who knows how to take opportunities. He raises money from Nigerian and international banks, meaning he is bankable etc. Others should learn from him rather than bicker endlessly. Another 2 guys towing that line are Tony Elumelu and Abdul Samad Rabiu. The more the better for our country |

bjtinz: They don't have the government subsidising their every move and removing every impediment in their way.. The Nigerian economy is clearly run for the benefit of Northerners by Northerners. Stop feigning ignorance.. A monopoly will result in price gouging and the cost of petrol being higher than it should otherwise be in the long run |

Sholaco:Some southerners are destroying themselves for PMB's hatred. They celebrated rejection of their sister and in the next few days they'll come here and complain Nepotism. Their envy successful people they couldn't make or produce. Many Southerners received billions of naira CBN loan and modular refineries licence during GEJ's administration but they diverted the money to their pockets. Now our tycoon son build refinery and the bill empower refinery owners to import oil the children of hate started twisting the actual motive behind the bill. Who ask them not to develop their business and choose to go into trading and non profitable businesses? Who stop their tycoons from building refineries? They hate themselves and now they're extending their hatred to us! |

Commentor: What Jealousy? If you want to build a refinery, nothing stopped him. But why kill business for others? Most importantly, why destroy competition? In a free market, the purpose of competition is to prevent businesses from exploiting consumers through overpricing. It also to improve quality. Without competition, Dangote would be able to charge excessive prices for his products and laugh to the bank. It's you and I that will carry the brunt. 1 Like |

Re: PIB: Like Sugar, Like Cement, Dangote To Dominate The Oil Industry by grandstar(m): 6:30pm On Jul 13, 2021 |
Commentor: Dangote hasn't killed any refinery. But the Bill only allows those with sizable local production to import fuel. That means only Dangote can import fuel. Even Otedola can't import as he has no local refining 1capacity (Otedola is no more in the business) All petroleum product importers have basically been shut out of business. This is anti-competition. 1 Like |
Re: PIB: Like Sugar, Like Cement, Dangote To Dominate The Oil Industry by stepaside2: 6:53pm On Jul 13, 2021 |
grandstar:NNPC is the only importer of petrol because it is not profitable for private entities due to fixed price regime and subsidy. This is not the case for the deregulated diesel and kerosene markets where those that can are allowed to import. Although the provision of the bill is anti competitive, it is necessary at this stage of our development as a way to encourage those who are bold enough to invest in refining, boosting local employment and more importantly saving scarce forex for importation |
Re: PIB: Like Sugar, Like Cement, Dangote To Dominate The Oil Industry by grandstar(m): 7:23pm On Jul 13, 2021 |
stepaside2: Singapore, a tiny country with only 5.7m refines 1.5m barrels of crude oil daily, most for export. This should tell you something. Nigeria should by now be refining nothing less 2.5m barrels a day but barely refines any. It's job now should be how to improve capacity to 2.5m or more, for Nigeria to become the energy hub of Nigeria. Instead, this does the opposite If he needs market protection, an import duty should suffice. That's how it's done. This will make sure he isn't slaughtered easily by competition but also ensuring he does not overcharge consumers, monopolize the industry and scare off other investors. It is also not "necessary at this stage of our development" . That's the argument that had been given these last 40 years with nothing to show for it. A fully deregulated and liberalized oil industry is the best for all stakeholders. 1 Like |
