Oh no!

Criminals will support this

Nigeria should bring back the system of firing squad.

That's the only system that fits criminals in this country

This is a welcome development. I pray Nigeria will follow suit.

Some murdered cases are accidental and no need for one to face a Dead penalty.

Igbos will celebrate this as many igbos are faling a dead penalty over there for fraud, murdered and skuld mining

More tools in the hands of the politicians & powerful people. Prisons would only serve as hired killers' hideouts.

In the case of Nigeria...
Our prisons are overpopulated, some need to be executed ASAP so we can have space...
We can't waste our national resources feeding a criminal for life...

Many have hailed this step: including NGOs (AdvocAid, Amnesty International & Death Penalty Project), as well as the UK Foreign Secretary.

Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, Dominic Raab

Sierra Leone's President, Julius Maada Bio, has remained a strong advocate for the abrogation of the Death Penalty Act.

There has been no Court-backed execution in the Sierra-Leone since 1998 but Judges continue to impose the mandatory Death sanction for capital crimes. At least 78 persons are on death row, all of whom will have their death sentences rescinded.

The small West African nation becomes the 23rd African Country & 110th in the World to abolish the Death Penalty; joining ECOWAS neighbours: Guinea, Benin Republic, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo & Senegal.

Now, it is easier to carryout justice by oneself. If you kill my loved ones. Bet that I will kill you as punishment. Stalemate.

Even the guy that assassinated one of the former PMs of Israel is still in prison. It mustn't always end in death for criminals.
you do realise these hardened criminals are being taken care of by tax payers money, right? Isn't better to deliver justice by handing the death sentence?

This society has lost its sense of right and wrong. They haven't given enough thought to this decision and as it stands, there will be an increase in crime because criminals will no longer be threatened with the punishment of death

In as much as I do not have an opinion on the death penalty bill, I actually find the west sometimes confused on their stance.
Same people that are strong advocate for the abrogation of the Death Penalty but promotes abortion and euthanasia. I don't understand the contrast.

The abolishment or non implementation of tge death penalty is a major cause of frequent killings. When a criminal knows that he won't be killed for murdering innocent people, it doesn't augur well for a peaceful society. If every convicted BHT, kidnapper, kidnapper and armed robbers have been sent to their ancestors, it will have sent a message of "An Eye for an eye".

And how many of the aforementioned were executed now,,

Western societies are very controversial in formulating laws and its interpretation. Their justice system is so misguided and I wonder if sanity still exists there.

That is why there are several degrees of murder, accidental cases don't necessarily warrant execution if it's proven...But u can't just keep a genocidal maniac in jail for years & feeding him with same tax payers money....Thats freaking stup#d, Nigeria should NOT FOLLOW SUIT

Lol, which better ways please?

When you tell a criminal he'll lose his life if caught in the act and he still doesn't care, then I don't know what else is needed to discourage crime.

Nigerians doing drugs in Asia is a perfect example

You think by killing criminals that would reduce or stop people committing crimes, yea right you better thinks again. grin all the criminals in American deathrow or the ones currently in Sieralonian deathrow, do you think they didn't know they might be put to death before they commited all their crimes? Or murder.

In your nigezooria criminals receive jungle justuce always, did that deter people from commiting crimes or murdering people? No!!

better ways like?

Better ways like finding out why the crime was committed.

See below report I managed to pull out from the net. Please find time to read the report in the link cited.

"The low level of general crime and very low level of violent crime is due to the high-standard of living, lack of tension between social and economic classes, small population, strong social attitudes against criminality, high level of trust in law enforcement, and a well-trained, highly-educated police force"

Brilliant idea! This means the Sieralnian govt. Are starting to recognise human rights.

Lock a murderer up for 50 years that would hurt him/her more than killing them. Trust me i know! I ve been to jail numerous times.

But they can kill?

Some of us have ugly pasts. That we were not held while doing it, does it exonerate us from it? Then it means that we will end up building more prisons that meaningful infrastructure.
