Archaeologists were left on the verge of tears when excavations in the ancient city of Jerusalem exposed the remains of a fortified wall from the biblical First Temple period.

The First Temple period (1200 to 586 BC) describes one of the most thrilling but enigmatic periods in the Holy Land's history. Although the Bible paints a vivid picture of life in Jerusalem during the time of the First Temple - Solomon's Temple - very little archaeological evidence has survived of this holy structure. According to the biblical account, the temple was toppled in 586 BC after an army of Babylonians led by King Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem.

The invading forces razed the city to the ground, plundered its riches and drove many of its people into exile or captivity.

A passage in the Bible's 2 Kings 25:9 reads: "He burned the house of the LORD, the kings's house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; even every great house he burned with fire."

And yet, recent excavations in the City of David have unearthed fortifications and artefacts with tantalising links to this biblical period.

The City of David encompasses parts of a Palestinian and Israeli village, believed to be the oldest parts of Jerusalem dating to the Iron Age.

Archaeologists in the City of David National Park have uncovered a missing fragment of Jerusalem's eastern wall, which was destroyed by the Babylonian invaders.

The wall's remains were found near the Temple Mount, the contested centre of spiritual life in Jerusalem.

Measuring just 16ft (5m) across, the wall was one of many discoveries made on the site, including ancient artefacts and ruins of homes.

Most importantly, however, the discovery proves the ancient city of Jerusalem was surrounded by an impressive, fortified wall.

Fragments of the fortifications have been found in the 1960s and 1970s but they were disconnected and assumed to be part of separate structures.

Upon figuring out the significance of the discovery, one of the archaeologists was overcome with emotion.

Dr Filip Vukosavovic of the Ancient Jerusalem Research Center, who coordinated the dig, was quoted by Jerusalem Post, saying: "When we exposed the first part of the wall, an area about one metre per one metre large, I immediately understood what we had found. I almost cried."

According to the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), the fortification protected the ancient city during "the time of the kings of Judah" until the city was toppled 2,600 years ago.

The IAA announced in a Facebook post: "The excavations uncovered remains of the destruction, however, not all was destroyed and parts of the walls were found still standing.

"The new exposure connects two previously excavated sections on the eastern slope.

"Remains of the destruction were also found in the building next to the wall and inside the rows of storage, jars were discovered that were broken when the building burned and collapsed."

Archaeologists have dated the jars to the final days of the Kingdom of Judah - the Iron Age kingdom that ruled over the Southern Levant after the unified Kingdom of Israel broke apart.

Even more intriguingly, the jars' handles were stamped with characteristic rosette-shaped impressions.

Near the uncovered wall, the archaeologists also unearthed a Babylonian stone seal depicting a figure standing before the Babylonian deities Marduk and Nabu.

The excavations also revealed a clay seal - bulla - bearing the name "Tsafan".

The discoveries are being prepared for exhibition later this year.

The IAA said: "These exciting findings will be presented this October at the Israel Antiquities Authority's annual conference 'New Studies in the Archaeology of Jerusalem and its Region'."

For those who are obsessed with erecting gargantuan places of worship here on Earth in the name of God, thinking that it meant anything to God, and the advancement of His Kingdom here on Earth, the instance of the first temple built by king Solomon could teach them a lesson or two, on the value God places on such things.

If they only knew how much time, effort and resources went into the construction of the temple Solomon built for God, and how much details was involved. Some estimate the cost of the building to be in the region 20 billion dollars in today's currency value when inflation and other parameters were factored in. Yet when the hearts of the people of Israel were turned against God, and they had begun to work abominations and went contrary to His ways, He didn't hesitate to send men who would raze the impressive building down among other things, to prove what was more important to Him.

This was even before the coming of Jesus when God yet literally dwelt in a temple built with men's hands, to show that such structures no matter how impressive and valuable were secondary to God. And that the most important thing to Him is the heart of a man, which was the basis of house that Jesus built for Him without men's hands.

Hence when the disciples who were impressed themselves, showed Him how impressive the building and stones of the temple were, He told them that not one stone would be left on top of the other that would not be thrown down, to change their orientation towards such things, so they'd also know the value God places on such. And that what was more important to God was not such houses built with men's hands, no matter how impressive, but the heart of a man, where He now dwells. Matthew 13:1-2.

Hence that's what they should focus on and try to make as impressive as possible, and a befitting place for God to dwell.

God bless.

Lol, they believe the world came to be in just 6 days, they believe a snake talked, they believe a donkey talked, they believe that people used trumpets to bring down a whole city, they believe that dry bones of dead bodies grew flesh and came back alive. But an archeologist's research with evidence which dates back millions of years is where they draw the line? grin
The fact is that, if the bible had said the universe is billions of years old, they wouldn't call it a lie. They allow their bible to reason for them. cheesy

The only reason they find it so absurd is because the figures are just so out of reach from what their big book of myth told them
You spent your live believing the universe began some 6,000 years ago only to start hearing billions, not 60,000 not even 600,000 or so,but billions...grin. Like, for real. grin grin
This is a book written by folks who didn't even have technology in an era where people thought the earth was flat, but people would rather trust the stories of goat herders about talking snakes and donkeys rather than modern information and technology.
I mean, if you believe that someone used an ordinary stick to devide the sea, you shouldn't even be making effort to debunk or call a research a lie because it dates back to millions of years.
Funny thing is that some will still come here to say that the bible didn't mention 6000 years even though they know deep down that that's what most Christians believe. grin

All this discovering sef...
Don't mind them, them go soon discover wetin go kill all of us one day.

Their discoveries is not for worshipers of the true God because we already have the greatest EVIDENCE the world has never seen before!
All what they can find out there are evidences pointing to the authenticity of God's word but what is the greatest EVIDENCE that all right thinking persons should consider with all seriousness?
Many religious groups claiming believers in what that book says but there is contradicting teachings and conflicting doctrines everywhere today. If you now have evidence that what's written in the Bible is not a myth what about the contradictions that's making it difficult for interested persons to IDENTIFY the true believers of that book?

Well listen to the promises of the Author of that book (Bible) He said a time will come on this planet when there will be spiritual famine everywhere {Amos 8:11} this means people will not be able to get information from the divine for one reason or another!

But at that same time a mighty spirit Prince Archangel Michael (Jesus Christ) will stand up and begin gathering faithful people throughout the earth and keeping them under one umbrella {Daniel 12:1-2} he will separate humble and obedient people of faith (Sheep) from arrogant and selfish people (Goats) Matthew 25:31-33

Of course majority of earth's inhabitants will not understand what is happening by then but few people who are diligently searching for God with all their hearts will understand! Daniel 12:10 compare Matthew 7:13-14

This event began unfolding from the year 1914 that year Jesus (Archangel Michael) after driving away Satan from heaven came to take away his born again brothers who were sleeping in death {1Thessalonians 4:16} he has taken them to heaven but the remaining ones who are still alive must complete their earthly assignment before going to join them.
Then Jesus noticed that Christianity (the faith he laid down when he first came as a human) is no more what the earth peddle {Luke 18:8} so he began gathering faithful people together in one group, this group is known today as "Jehovah's Witnesses" Jesus restructured this group and fortified them with the Holy Spirit that will continue to guide them into all truths {John 16:13} spontaneously this group went into action after five years of their training and in the year 1919 they began preaching and teaching from house to house just as Jesus first commissioned Christianity in the first century {Matthew 10:11-13} this program continued throughout the twentieth century until when it's 100 years later in the year 2019 when a global pandemic caused a break in the activities of Jesus' true followers.

All these may sound unreal to people who may feel it's all a coincidence but what has God's word got to say about it?
Well God promised that by the time Michael began gathering those who will survive the destruction of this wicked system of things there will be a sign that everyone around the world will SEE with there own eyes! Matthew 5:13-16

So honest hearted and sincere individuals will begin to find their way into the same group, they will agree to use the Bible as their only source of guidance, they will settle all racial disputes within themselves, they will start preparing for Paradise by removing weapons from the heart of all adherents of their group, they will divert all their resources into production of food and information materials, they will all vow never to use weapons again for any reason whatsoever and they will stop learning about war! Isaiah 2:2-4

Because of God's love for honest hearted and sincere individuals God asked another prophet to repeat this same prophecy! Micah 4:1-3

Well do we have such a group today? Of course we do, it's the same group Jesus refined and equipped with the power of God's Holy Spirit "Jehovah's Witnesses"

God bless you and may you have PEACE! smiley

The bible was overtly exaggerated. The narrative structure is in such context that it either over emphasised or deemphasized.
Now I'm not saying it's false but In new light modern facts such as these archeological find show that even though the events can be corroborated they are easily not 100% factual. So therefore using the bible as the only reference for history is a big mistake.
Even as a religious text for doctrine the Bible is open to multiple interpretations.
More things will be uncovered by gods grace.
