I just wonder how someone in his right senses would want to compare the earning of a university graduate with say 2.1 at least to that of a uber driver who drives for an average of 12hrs daily to earn an average of say 400-500k monthly.

For goodness sake how does that corollates?

We are not talking about contract workers here. Do you guys have an idea what a Exxon Mobil, Total or oil servicing companies like Halliburton pay their fresh graduate at all?.. And you wanna compare the special treatment, working environment, career, circles of friends, opportunities and all other allowances to that cheerful who thinks he can earn 700k monthly? How many years can he drive to earn 700-800k monthly? How feasible is that?

When I was FME with Hauwei my monthly salary alone as a contract worker was 369k... Vehicle allowance was 250k, sum that up! Within 6months I was able to buy a car, a plot of land and do other things... I started my farm from savings... You think to have about 20acres of farm without any government assistance for naija na beans? Other earnings never join ooh... Every month at least I can tell you I get nothing less than a million naira and you want to compare a uber driver to that or to my school mates we all graduated together that works with Mobil or total earning 1.250m as start up salary? And one motivational speaker wants to show his colleagues just one driver's dashboard so they can resign maybe because they're earning 100k? One driver's dashboard ooh among hundreds of them... How many drivers can earn such amount monthly?

Every job comes with its own challenges just as every course in school does so you just need to figure out your own course to know if you can include an extra course or department to have 2 degrees.

What opportunities abides for an average uber driver with 10yrs of driving experience? Is it political appointment, or ministerial appointment? Or Will Uche give him, cheerfulgiver or Pearl a holiday trip to the Bahamas or Paris? Hell no! Even during festive period how many drivers has gotten a free ride with his family to a resort or a bag of rice from uber or bolt? And some persons are making comparison. What nonsense!

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was once a teacher, from one appointment to another he became president.
Attiru Jega nko?... Now he's a member of a political party...hopefully he'll become either a governor, minister or a president later.
How about fmr CBN Govs and the present Gov of CBN Godwin Emefiele were they not bankers?

So what future does an average uber driver has? Even his friends are also uber drivers or keke drivers and some persons are coming here to talk about earnings. Is life all about earnings? How many lives can an average uber driver impact... Him don bath?

Can you imagine??!!

Good point you raised but not all jobs, you shouldn't quit a job that has growth because of driving, there are other peks too, we get yearly housing and furniture allowance, HMOs, access to the cheapest loan, I go on short courses several times a year which comes with DTAs enough to cover some expenditures and so many others, yes driving is good but I wouldn't advice anyone to abandon a full time employment with relatively good pay for uber driving except your contract is a temporary one. The risk of driving in Lagos alone.

Certainly not all job nah...how many young guys do you think have a job with all this perks you mentioned...Ordinary HMO that used to be for everybody now, they don customise am...na for selected grade now in most places..."Short courses several times a year", LOL...You must be working in a very sane environment....Congrat.

Guys,

Please, my 2005 honda pilot began finding it difficult to accelerate while motion or while trying to climbing a bump yesterday.

While in motion, it doesnt go above 20km/hr at once, and takes some time to accelerate.

When trying to climb a bump, it occasionally finds it difficult to climb a bump, so I would have to reverse before moving speadily over the bump.

What could be the issue?

Check your gear to see if there's still transmission fluid in it.

Great!

So if you're lucky to be called upon for a job of say 500k per month would you quick driving uber with your personal car?

Or if you're already working with a monthly take home of say 400/600k with other allowances and career prospects would you rather resign to drive with uber?

I can understand if the job pays less with or without any future prospect towards your career goals in life but not when the job has prospect and still foots your bills comfortably.

In a nutshell, it is improper to encourage or advice people to resign their jobs for uber driving.

Okay, when that guy contacted me privately for advice last year I asked in full details about everything that matters to give a profine advice, his salary is nothing to write home about, something a lazy driver can net in say 2days... But I didn't ask him to resign the job because he could make triple his salary in 2 or 3days, No! He took the advice, look now today he's gotten himself a car driving after teaching and weekend and public holidays... I appreciate God on behalf of him for that his family member who trusted in him to buy him the car for him with the hope of getting back his money.

Its two hands every man has and when the two washes each other they both get cleaner easily but when one washes itself alone it won't be clean.

But what worked for Mr.A can't or may not work for Mr.B so i can tell Mr.B to resign if he opens up to me with good details and face the uber work squarely especially if he owns the car.

That same guy can build in his career, proceed to acquire more degree and with promotion, helping people and meeting people through his philanthropic duties may then have a connection that will change his life and that of his family for ever... So these are the things we should look into holistically before giving advice.

I understand the opportunities are limited in Nigeria and Africa at large reason a lot of graduates like you and me are into this unskilled job but trust me we won't even think of it had the country been good. Did our fathers who finished fr8m elementary school considered driving? The Nigeria government then will give you a tear rubber peaguot with a flat to live... But its not so now because the opportunities are limited so one has to use his head to chose wisely.

Make i no talk too much... Let's drop this topic abeg because its doesn't make any sense to me comparing a uber driver with a top managerial job.

At this stage of this discussion, any contribution should go a step higher.
No one is comparing ehailing with IOCs. Who wouldn't like to work in Mobile, Chevron, Shell n co Or good government jobs?

Let face reality...
IOCs take 26yrs max for entry level and experienced hires are taken if u have experience or masters, from abroad preferably. How many people do they even recruit yearly sometimes less than 20. For example, one year Schlumberger took 12, yes only 12 people for Technical Graduate Trainee, that's even because they were expanding. Out of thousands of engineering and geology graduates with 2.1 and First class. How many get into Mobile, Shell, Chevron etc. You know it's not by intelligence alone, people that get these few jobs are connected, lucky and fortunate too. So if one kept trying till he gets older than entry level age he has to move on to other fields.
To get a good govt job today u go sort minimum 500k sometimes 3m for NNPC or CBN plus connect to get in.
To get good corporate job at this our age it's either u have d experience or u have a good Masters degree or MBA from overseas or strong professional qualification like PMP, CFA, ACCA, ICAN, CIBN, CMA, IRM, CBAP, CIPM, CCNA CISM, CISA etc
Guess what u may still have all these and still not get the job.
Now do u have 15m to do MBA or masters abroad? Cos that's the closest way of getting these high paying jobs if u weren't lucky to get in as fresh graduate and get the experience in that line from the beginning.

We all want those pecks and luxury, but few people look at the route and take on d challenges to get there, many are willing but are not rich enough to fulfill those dreams. But when reality comes and boyhood dreams didn't workout, u quit wishful thinking, face life, work it out where you find yourself with the tools available.

Nobody says u shouldn't desire working in big companies or drive forever...it's ur wish if u do by the way, but u can keep applying to these jobs u desire if u r fortunate to get it we will celebrate with u or u can take d hustle serious and with proper planning, in few years earn as much as those companies would pay u.

U r talking about impact an Uber driver can make in life... beyond having the finances to help family, friends, neighbors and people around. If u grow ur business and provide a car for another man to earn a living and provide for his own family, my brother, that's a great impact to life and the society. What other impact is more than investing on another soul apart from salvation.

How can u denigrate and downgrade what puts food on ur table currently and expect to prosper in it. U claim u have done this for 6yrs. Bro, if u have nothing to show for it, quite or go for deliverance. Cos if u continue like this 10yrs will pass and u will still be here talking like this.

Why did u leave Huawei? and what did u do with the money u earned while there?
Where is ur farm today
So u can see that even when u get that big job u all are talking about, it can end anytime and u can go down back to square one.
So the problem is not really about what u r doing, it's the attitude, self discipline and planning.

If this is ur real disposition about the work and not just kidding, my advise to u is quit and look for something else to do while u get ur dream job because the negative vibes u will be carrying around will not allow favour or fortune to smile on u for better things.

Feli Feli...there is a thin line between being worthy, feeling deserving of something and being ungrateful.
Let me ask u, don't u thank a CEO for giving u a job? Even when u have gone through all the recruitment huddles and u r qualified and found worthy of holding that position??
Don't u thank someone for giving you a contract that made u blow and changed your life.
Look, irrespective of how u look at it. If someone gave u an opportunity that helped you grow in life, u still have to thank the person even if u were only doing a job or a business transaction. He could have given it to someone else.
Our newest car owner here paid for his car in full even with down payment but I am sure he is grateful for the opportunity, trust and confidence the owner of the car had in him. Yes, the owner has gained but u have also benefitted. It's a win win.

Maybe it's just me, but why do I feel that the drivers who try to hammer on the negatives of the job just do it to discourage newbies (because they feel more drivers will come and drag the market with them...)

It's like when one of my guys earning 400K keeps preaching about the importance of being one's own boss and how salary is paid slavery...yet e no go resign or refer another person to the role...

Thanks to everyone keeping it real sha. Real is scarce.
same way people in the abroad will tell u it's not easy, some of them will be doing video inside snow telling people naija is better yet they hv spent 20 years in the abroad grin grin this life just do u simple

You talk well but you come finish am with another talk way no make at all...

That car you provided for the other man in your society did you provide it to him for free?

The salvation you have today, the life, good health and air you talked about (as salvation) are you paying for any of them?

You rent out a car to somebody, at what price did you advocated the other time again? And you call it an impact to the person and his family?? Wow! So that's to say you also belong to those who believes car owners are doing drivers a favour!

Ic
Giving out a car for hire o
Purchase or rental is a form employment and it's way of easing the burden of employment in the society.... Even if you are paying a staff 20k From your little business is way of easing the
Over bloated unemployment in this country just don't over kill your employee and be considerate to them because table do turn

Why be good ...when you can be great wink ....me I want to be great. There is pride in ownership.. Those directors don't own Dangote company.. They work there and they can be fire at anytime......

Would u rather own ur house or rent ? When you own something there is a feeling of fulfilment
Would you rather own your business and save N2m annually or become dangote's P.A and save N10m annually?
